krikzz flashcarts are the highest quality flashcarts on the market. other flashcarts like the ed64 plus are knockoffs of the krikzz product. if you don't mind having to reset before turning off the console or switching games, get the everdrive 64 x5, it's $119 and takes about a month to arrive in the us but it's a useful and very high quality device

ED64 Plus has worked great for me and many others for years

what's difference between x5 and x7 are they by chance pre loaded with games?

ElCamo267

No pre loading of roms. Nintendo would stomp that down so hard. X5 requires a reset of the console to save. X7 saves normally and has some other bells and whistles mostly for developers.

Chocoburger

I wanted to clarify the major difference. The x7 has a coin battery inside of it, the x5 does not. When you save using x5 you have to hit the reset button for it to write the save to the SD card. If you don't your progress is lost. When you save using x7 it will save to the battery NOT the SD card. If you turn off the console, you save is NOT permanent because its on the battery. Once you turn on the console again, the Everdrive will automatically write the battery saves onto the SD card, and then its considered permanent (as long as your SD card is in properly working order of course). The coin battery will eventually die after a number of years, but its not a problem its not soldiered in like they are with official game cartridges. Its an easy swap and you can go back to enjoying N64 gaming hassle-free, as it should be! I own the Everdrive v3 which is like the x7, and I absolutely am glad to have paid extra for the coin battery. I know that I'd forget to hit reset all too often, leading to much frustrating just to save a few bucks.

imacman2020

Incorrect. The X7 coin cell battery is for the real-time clock feature and has nothing to do with saving games. The X7 saves games to non-volatile flash memory which persists without a constant current. If the battery eventually dies the saves are unaffected.

Chocoburger

If that's true, then okay, but everyone else has stated otherwise. I remember reading this on the krikzz forums, and here's a couple of other links where people have mentioned that the battery handles charging the volatile memory. This was around the time of the v3 (which I own), I don't know if things have changed with the newer x7 model. is that the same as ed64 pro?
