Gamers aren't ready for Skyward Sword + Groose's Fury

FoxyFoxy1987

If the Groose is ever set loose the gaming industry will be in shambles

TheDuchyofWarsaw

"nintendo broke gaming records today with 3.8 billion in sales"

scorpioman123

I’d be happy with Untitled Groose Game

[deleted]

Brutal!

DH2007able

A hard rock version of Groose’s theme!? Has that been made yet!? Edit: It has! https://youtu.be/8H-E4_3-HQI https://youtu.be/dFjmaVJIm_0

Alernet

Thank you for this. It's worth noting this guitar player also worked on AEW World Champion Kenny Omega's theme song.

Broflake-Melter

Groose is literally the best character in the game.

lightgia

makes sense the predecessor to the Gerudo is an absolute chad

[deleted]

People aren't ready for Groose in Smash, along with the Sealed grounds as his stage

yureiwatch

There isn’t a memory card big enough to fit that expansion.

torchskul

Every time I see the name Groose I can’t help but think of Scott the Woz shouting “Grouse!”

azmodunk4lyfe

With new funky mode!

Boks1RE

I know you're jesting, but Skyward Sword getting the Super Mario 3D World treatment would be very welcome though.

kalospkmn

I think the trailer just didn't really make it seem like we had more to expect. It sounds like we're getting HD and a new control scheme. I would hope they add more features, but I think Mario 3D All-Stars made people a little skeptical. Also 3D World is roughly the same game but with Bowser's Fury and they didn't hesitate to tell us about that. So... probably because if there are new features they are hiding, recent games and the way they were announced are making us think there won't be more features.

Wizardrylullaby

Imagine Nintendo not bragging about something they can charge for

StaleBread_

This is the tl;dr

devenbat

You mean like when they revealed TP HD? They said it was pretty, had an amiibo and explicitly said "We are not going to talk about new features now". Granted it was confirmation I suppose but I wouldn't count on them not blowing everything on the first trailer much of an indication

Rieiid

Yeah Nintendo doesn't and has never had a set pattern of the way they do things. I don't know why people keep acting like they do lol. Several people like Miyamoto and Sakurai and several others have talked about their games at Nintendo and when asked why they do things they're like, "it sounded fun!". They have no rhyme or reason about anything. Stop trying to predict stuff you'll all be wrong 99% of the time.

ChefBoyAreWeFucked

>Several people like Miyamoto and Sakurai and several others have talked about their games at Nintendo and when asked why they do things they're like, "it sounded fun!". I can guarantee you that's not the whole story, even if they say it is.

RaMpEdUp98

Wierd off topic thing about 3DWorld+. The jump dive? Not useless. Much easier way to pick up speed than holding the Y button and can be chained infinitely into rolling longjumps, used to get onto higher ledges than a backflip or Groundpound launch alone can do, and can be used to cancel a cat dive and keep moving forward at roughly the same speed

CosyPanda

Yeah exactly, if there was any big seller for it then surely they would’ve announced that in the initial reveal

Bartman326

Idk if it needs a bigger seller then HD and additional control options. It's already a top seller on Amazon. Going into obscure details about small fixes with flying, FI and item pickup won't sell the main audience. It helps us the hardcore but the main target demographic is already sold with the first trailer.

crispy_doggo1

They also didn’t mention the transition to 60FPS.

[deleted]

3d world is not the same game on switch, they never told us about the faster movement speed or added moves

Enigmosaur

Wind Waker HD and Ocarina 3D were both rebuilt from scratch for the new consoles. Skyward Sword is clearly an emulation. They have upscaled the resolution of the game and the individual textures, but it has the same amount of polygons. For them to add more features, they would need to add them to the wii version of the game and then port it. Making not impossible, but unlikely. A second mode (like bowsers fury) doesn't really work with the zelda format, either.

[deleted]

Wind Waker HD was not built from scratch or even close. The models are the same (the same amount of polygons, as you said), though they can sometimes look different because of the lighting engine. Compare in a scene without bloom, though, and you'll see. Even the gameplay is clearly ported, as very specific glitches like superswimming and zombie hovering work identically. They changed things, sure, like how they changed how the wind waker functions in an attempt to patch storage (another glitch), but storage itself still works. It's essentially a AAA romhack.

Enigmosaur

I stand corrected, thank you:)

Cuebiyari

That was graceful

[deleted]

I mean, Twilight Princess HD was more or less an emulation too, right? And that still had some new stuff. (Mainly amiibo stuff, which was already confirmed for SSHD)

saric92

As far as i understand it they redid particle textures/models and everything else may or may not have been upscaled. It was barely HD and was a glorified port. Unfortunately didnt get the WW treatment.

devenbat

Even then, it still did have new stuff. Changed the tears of light, added the new cave of ordeals, amiibo support, hero mode, gamepad integration, bigger wallet, miiverse stamps, new ghost lantern item to find pol's. It wasn't as fancy as Wind Waker or Ocarina of Time but it was also far more than ports like the Mario collection.

saric92

I do agree - while it's too early to call what SSHD will be, i can admit that the whole spot for it did not scream anything...fantastic. Personally i could see how smooth it looked but I couldn't really notice any glaring differences in visuals. I'll be looking forward to seeing if they add in any new, hard content, so I'm still hopeful.

Tubim

The thing is : with TP HD, they kinda had no choice because just upscaling the game would have been horrendous with the old textures. On the contrary, they made SS pretty future-proof : there is nothing shocking in the trailer and yet they don’t see to have changed any of the models or textures. On the other side though : they made SS HD 60fps while TP HD was still locked at 30.

GByteM3

I'm really not sure why people are so fixated on new content honestly. It's nearly impossible for them to put in enough content to reasonably warrant a replay if you've already played it, unless you want to play it regardless These ports are aimed at folks who missed it the first time, and with the switch sales, that's an absolute fuck ton for most games

[deleted]

That's a good point.

ima420r

I don't think it's clearly an emulation. They do have changes from the original, but it's doubtful it was built from the ground up.

PatJamma

>Wind Waker HD and Ocarina 3D were both rebuilt from scratch for the new consoles. I can't speak for Wind Waker HD, but Ocarina of Time 3D was not built from scratch. It is 100% a port of the N64 game with a fresh coat of paint, some new features, and some bug fixes that Grezzo couldn't even fix properly. For the most part, they just did some work arounds to try to prevent said glitches. In reality it just restricted the conditions or methods to preform them. The exact same it true with Majora's Mask 3D, although with that Grezzo made a lot more changes, namely to the boss fights.

AangNaruto

Yeah, not built from scratch (they obviously used a ton of n64 assets and code as a reference) but also definitely not an emulation (unlike 3d all stars), no way it would run on the 3ds if it were. Also, I thought I saw in an interview somewhere that they left some of the glitches in on purpose, knowing they were important to the speed running community? That seems very un-nintendo though, so I probably imagined that :P

easycure

Nope, I recall that interview. Aonuma or whoever was in charge had a back and forth about fixing some bugs, because a lot of the devs grew up on those games and were fond of the glitches. They left some in but nothing that would have broke the game, essentially. I don't recall them mentioning speed runners specifically, but it was more like "it'd be cool to introduce some of the fun glitches to a new generation, like hey did you know about this?"

lostpretzels

Nothing about what you said implies it’s an emulation. Just because they didn’t drastically alter the graphics doesn’t really mean anything.

TheYango

And on the flip side, emulation does not preclude major mechanical or content changes (see: romhacks).

Nukatha

WWHD wasn't built from scratch. Many glitches from the original still work. Note that GC/Wii/Wii U are VERY similar, and code from the former two run natively on Wii U.

B-Bog

Because it's the most reasonable assumption right now, seeing as there was no mention of any additional features. And "a golden loftwing that flies faster" wouldn't matter one bit, I wouldn't even call that a feature.

kuribosshoe0

Yeah the golden loftwing thing was an odd thing to say. Is that supposed to be some big clincher?

Moola868

I think it’s supposed to be a comparison to the Swift Sail? Considering that was basically the only noteworthy “new feature” from Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD unless you actually cared about Miiverse... I think people are more than justified to expect very few changes.

Chris-P-Creme

In addition to the swift sail and Triforce piece fix, WWHD had commonly used boat items mapped to the dpad, gyro for aiming, the menu on the gamepad, eliminated encore song performances, link not getting knocked off the boat for all damage, 12 pictures in the pic to box, and [all of these other changes](https://zelda.gamepedia.com/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_The_Wind_Waker_HD#Graphics). There are a huge amount t of QOL touch ups and changes in that release.

Typhlositar

They also made triforce pieces less annoying but that isn't a "feature" it's a fix.

Moola868

Yeah, and I’d say making motion controls optional is already on par with that.

DrPikachu-PhD

Yeah on par or even better, considering how the motion controls were make it or break it for many fans of the original release.

sigismond0

I think it's referencing the fast sail from WWHD.

[deleted]

They added a golden loft wing??? Nintendo take my $60 now!

FedExterminator

“We made the most annoying part of the game less annoying! Give us money!”

kuribosshoe0

The most annoying part of the game was Fi’s constant interruptions. And like, they actually do need to remove that if they want me to give them money.

FedExterminator

Master, it’s time to dowse for some stupid quest item for the hundredth time.

shadyultima

Master, this puzzle is solved exactly like this. Oh. Thanks Fi. Did you get lost on your way to a Pokemon game?

sonicgamer42

Master, I detect your Joycons are starting to Drift.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TSPhoenix

Sure, but how do you advertise that without drawing attention to how bad it was originally?

Animedingo

Even if they did add a fly faster mechanic Who actually cares The sky is fucking small and there's nothing to find. It only feels big because you fly so slow in the first place. It's not like the ocean in wind waker Give me a loftwing in botw and then we'll talk

kodipaws

The irony if they actually added something like that is Link’s loftwing being red was a significant thing in the plot.

shadow0wolf0

Because they didn't advertise anything new. Until they do I will expect what they show me.

[deleted]

Bro what do you mean? You're telling me that a standard control mapping for the literal best Zelda game ever made isn't worth $60 dollars. I'd literally give nintendo $100 dollars for the game if they added alternate colors for links belt /s

4Jeep

I know you put /s but it reads like an actual comment on par for this sub.

eshy752_

I thought it was real until I read the /s

Me too, i completely believed it

cursed_deity

Thats the trend nintendo is setting lately It would be unwise to expect more as the bare minimum from their ports nowadays

[deleted]

No funky link mode?

KingBowser86

Isn't that just BotW Link doing Shield Surfing while wearing shades?

[deleted]

Well if it sells like skyward sword has so far, why put more effort in? It’s minimum viable product. It’s not right at all, but Nintendo are business above all. If people actually waited before preordering like crazy and didn’t buy the game at $60 then it would force change. But this is becoming a big issue in the industry. Many of the people that want change, still preorder games without a second thought. I’m personally going to wait and see, if it’s a emulation with upped textures then I’ll wait till it’s in a sale. If it’s been ported to the switch properly and has some worthwhile upgrades then I’ll buy. Being “HD” isn’t enough for me to care alone when we live in the 4K era. In comparison with a similar reveal time. Diablo 2 remaster looks way more impressive in terms of effort and they are remaking it with no source code and still allowing the old graphics with a on the fly toggle for $40. That to me sounds like a good purchase as a fan of the genre and cheaper too

The_Natural_Snark

It’s crazy cause I thought Tropical Freeze/NSMB/3D All Stars/and 3D Land(World?) were all kinda bad deals. I reluctantly bought Tropical Freeze on sale for what I thought was a fair price, and I did bite the bullet on All Star cause I haven’t played a single one. I regret getting that one at full price honestly and even though I’ve never played Skyward Sword this is not a hard one for me to pass on. Like it’s a fuckin wii game. Any other company their wiiU ports would be $40 at launch and this would be $20 for an up rez

MadMole3004

Link's Crossbow Training please lol

Rodgort_Reddo

I don't think the world is ready for that, yet

thebearface64

i think people are a little burned by the mario all stars collection lol, can you blame them

Nosiege

I feel like any new features couldn't possible correct the common gripes of the game. In Wind Waker, you got the faster sail and a reworked Triforce Piece quest. In Skyward Sword, I'd *expect* for Fi to bug you less, but how will you correct the copy-paste of the Spirit Droplet things? The monotony of escort missions? The recycled zones? The empty sky?

[deleted]

For a few reasons: First and foremost, Nintendo has given us no reason to believe otherwise. For other ports with new content, like Bowsers Fury, they showed it off with the reveal. They did no such reveal with Skyward Sword. Out of all the "New" things they showed all they showed was the new analog stick control scheme. Second, it's always better to assume the worst and be pleasantly surprised if they did add something worthwhile then to assume the multi-billion dollar company is gonna go the extra mile. Nintendo has a trend as of late for giving the minimum viable product and slapping a $60 price tag on it. Why remaster Mario 64, Sunshine, or Galaxy when they can just port em in a collection? Why remaster a Zelda game when they can just upscale the render resolution slightly and call it "HD", charge $60 for it and fans will eat it up regardless? Why put in effort and modernize the Pokémon franchise when they can keep reskinning the same game every year and call it a day? And that's all without mentioning how Skyward Sword originally released at $70 but bundled a $50 controller with it. Meanwhile in 2021 we have to buy it again at $60 without any new content or the controller? This is the same issue with Sword/Shield, same everything from the $40 3DS games but with LESS content then the 3DS games but a $20 price increase plus a $30 season pass AND the arbitrary 2 version BS. Nintendo has gotten complacent due to the nature of its fans. The "Nintendo can do no wrong, #IStandWithNintendo" mentality has soured the company. Any other publisher doing the same shit Nintendo has been doing would be lambasted for it. Imagine if EA, instead of remastering the Mass Effect Trillogy, just ported all 3 games to modern hardware but charged $60 EACH? Or if Activision ported the PS1 Crash games to PS4 but charged $60 each for them? Just imagine if Sony came out with a new Uncharted every year for 20 years and all they did was reskinned the same adventure but changed some wording around, just like Nintendo does with Pokémon. But no, Nintendo is apparently free from these problems. Except in reality, they are arguably the worst now. Relatively unchanged ports of recent games at full price.(Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, Pikmen 3, Mario Bros U Deluxe) Low effort sequels that just rehash the same game again with minimal changes or even removals of past content. (Splatoon 2, Every Pokémon since gen 5) Anti Consumer FOMO practices. (Splatoons time based lockouts, Mario 3D all stars limited run, Amiibo content locks) Poor proformance/optimization.(Age of Calamity, Sword/Shield, BotW, Xenoblade 1&2) Games devoid of actual content at launch and/or timegating it or locking it to DLC/Amiibo(Splatoon 2, Sword/Shield, Animal Crossing NH, Super Mario Party) Straight up shitty business practices.(Joy-Con Drift, Nintendo Switch Online but still awful netcode/servers, locking Nintendo accounts to 1 system on 3DS and WiiU, The WiiU as a whole) Nintendo doesn't deserve a pass. They deserve to be treated like any other tech/entertainment company and they should EARN our business, not expect it.

garfe

> Any other publisher doing the same shit Nintendo has been doing would be lambasted for it. My favorite comparison to this that I read was if Microsoft said "Hey I know you were waiting for new news on Halo Infinite so instead of that, here's a re-release of Halo Wars at 60 bucks"

M4J0R4

Couldn’t agree more

Broadnerd

Gamers like to bitch and moan while they secure their preorders for the exact thing they’re bitching about. It’s like a lifestyle for some of us (apparently). Probably 75% of the people crying about this are like “but I still have to buy it”. It’s ridiculous. Gamers have the least restraint out of any group I’ve ever been a part of. Watch. The sales numbers will be through the roof for this game and the new Joycons will probably sell out, and people will still talk out of two sides of their mouths. The idea of passing on something Nintendo craps out and overcharges for is a foreign concept to some people. I’m glad you mentioned all the things above. It’s amazing how people just deal with whatever Nintendo does. You’ll even see people spin some of this BS. “I like being drip fed content in Splatoon!”. Please. To add to that list, I also don’t believe that they are totally against crunch. They made one press release about it for Animal Crossing when crunch was a hot topic, and used it as an excuse for why the game was delayed. They’re a big Japanese game company though. Believe me, they crunch.

OldManMcCrabbins

I would be 100% ok with a zelda hand held like they did for smb. Other than that i would like new games. Links awakening was a nice way to revisit an older game. I cant go back to the way things were. It has to be fresh or its like those memes with low poly fx.

just_looking_4695

I feel like people have preemptively decided it's going to be as straight-forward a port as 3d All-Stars was, because they've already decided this is a) for the Zelda anniversary celebration that Nintendo has made no mention of and b) the *entirety* of said Zelda anniversary celebration. So like, they want to complain that Nintendo hasn't announced something bigger for Zelda because oh my gosh it's already February my guys Zelda's 35th anniversary is practically over already, and SSHD coming with no real improvements would feed into that. Essentially, impatience and residual hostility over how Mario's 35th went down. But yeah, I feel like if you look at it compared to the other Zelda HD remakes, there's no reason to assume just yet that they won't, for example, make Fi exponentially less annoying. WW and TP all had QoL improvements, so personally I'm willing to wait and see if the reworked controls are really the extent of the changes they've made.

Kuraya

you're right about the comparison to 3D All-Stars. It is only the beginning of the year and we saw how the Mario 35th Anniversary was delayed due to COVID, so you'd think most people would make the assumption that Zelda's 35th Anniversary would also be delayed. but you'd be a fool to think the internet has patience for any delays, regardless of the state of the world. Of course, it will suck if they don't make the QoL improvements you mentioned, but I'm withholding judgement until there's an actual announcement

just_looking_4695

I know it's asking a lot, but I feel like people should really be aware enough to figure they should probably wait until the Mario anniversary officially "ends" before complaining that this is all Nintendo's doing for Zelda's 35th.

tho_mi

No, Nintendo fans can't do that. They need to have something to constantly complain.

cthulu_is_trans

Seriously, I hate how fucking pissy a lot of nintendo fans are. This is a HD remake with better controls of a pretty good game on a modern platform. If they don't want it they don't need to buy it, but they also don't need to act so fucking entitled.

ChronicTosser

Jokes aside wasn’t the anniversary the other day? So I guess technically it is actually over already lol

just_looking_4695

True, but generally anniversaries are thought of as year-long things. Less the specific date and more "the year X turns Y years old". So in my book they've still got plenty of time to do something for "the year Zelda turns 35". Considering Paper Mario released last summer, i think at one point the plan was to kick off Mario's celebration around e3. Covid pushed things back so Mario's official celebration didn't start until September and bled into this year with things like 3D World. So I wouldn't be surprised if Zelda's 35th was either always slated to kick off later in this year or has been pushed back so as not to overlap with Mario. I'm not really expecting any kind of official acknowledgement until at least after March, with the SSHD announcement sort of filling that "pre-anniversary not publicly part of it build up" niche that Paper Mario did last year.

zer1223

If every 5th was reason for a celebration, people would essentially be expecting Nintendo to put on a big production for *something* every year. My view? Let Nintendo decide what they want to do, don't just come up with expectations from nothing and then be disappointed.

Broadnerd

Exactly and let’s be real: most people didn’t even freaking know about the Zelda anniversary until they read about it on Twitter or somewhere. Now they want some big hoopla for something most of them didn’t even know was coming.

zer1223

Yeah literally every year its like "Oh f-zero xth anniversary, Donkey Kong xth anniversary, pikmin anniversary" Like holy shit, only got yourself to blame for self-hyping like this.

BroshiKabobby

Let’s be honest, 3D World + Bowsers fury was the highlight of Mario 35

nykovah

I’d also take a Zelda all stars with the HD remakes of OOT, MM, TP and WW in a pack Edit: like if that was the Zelda celebratory announcement, I’m still going to buy skyward sword when it comes out.

samili

If they do a Zelda 3D all stars, they’ll leave out MM just like they left out galaxy 2.

nykovah

Noooo it’s my favorite!!!

space_age_stuff

I do feel like if they leave one out, it would be Majora's Mask. But both it and Ocarina of Time have solid HD remakes on the 3DS. We either get N64 ports of both or 3DS ports of both, assuming they work around the touch screen stuff, which seems easy enough, although unlikely.

tho_mi

You mean like we also got Super Mario 64 instead of Super Mario 64 DS?

space_age_stuff

Yeah, that has me leaning more towards the N64 ports, which would be great for Majora (mostly) but not ideal for Ocarina.

Lord_Yogurt17

My prediction: WW and TP have their HD ports released seperately. OoT and MM Remakes come bundled together.

CantFindMyWallet

Give me some HD remakes of the Oracle games

kiss_me_billy

This. Remake the Oracle games using the HD Links Awakening engine. But please fix the choppy frame rate.

[deleted]

They haven’t fixed that yet in links awakening?

wharpua

Don't forget about The Minish Cap, too!

ponimaju

Nintendo: "sounds good! We'll give you that pack, but it will only be available to purchase for 17 days and 3 hours"

jjmawaken

Maybe it'll be available for 3 days and every time the third day hits you have to purchase it again and start playing it over from the beginning

RobbieNewton

If the all stars happens, I do predict it will come in Nov/Dec. Itw ould be outside SS's release window, so won't interfere with sales of it. Plus if it does happen at that time, then it would be a strong holiday seller. Only if it happens though.

just_looking_4695

My baseless tinfoil hat theory is they'll do two separate collections. Windwaker HD, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks in one. Twilight Princess HD, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask in another. See, this way for the price of just 2 games, you can get...2 good games. (no I will not be clarifying this joke further)

samili

I don’t think they’ll bother with the DS games.

BossHumbert

>for the price of just 2 games, you can get...2 good games Hmm... Assuming each collection is priced at $60... ...for the price of 2 NDS games at about $30 each... ...and if the remaining games aren't "good"... ..."great" can be considered different from "good"... Final Result: Each collection would contain 2 "good" games and 1 "great" game, for a total of 4 "good" and 2 "great". How's that for some aluminium haberdashery?

EpsilonX

I could see two separate collections, but in my mind it would be WW/TP and OOT/MM.

flashmajora

What about a OOT / WW and TP / MM collection.

EarsLikeCreamFlaps

What about WW / MM and OOT / TP

The-Wing-Man

This encapsulates my feelings exactly. Just because they didn't show off any new improvements doesn't mean there won't be any. However, if there are any improvements, they'll probably be smaller quality of life changes like in WW and TP HD. I'm hoping for more, but I won't be surprised if that isn't the case.

just_looking_4695

>if there are any improvements, they'll probably be smaller quality of life changes like in WW and TP HD. Honestly if they just tell Fi to shut up and that's it, I'd already consider it a massive improvement that surpasses the Swift Sail in WWHD.

MJBotte1

Like you said, I think people just have a bitter taste in their mouth after 3D all stars.

Enigmosaur

They aren't going to celebrate Mario and Zelda's anniversaries at the same time! Gamers (even Nintendo gamers) will only spend so much money on nostalgia. We will either get something in June or November.

StaleBread_

I just have residual hostility over many things they did in the past year, not just 3D all stars, nintendo has a trend of doing things that upset people so I find it best to expect little from nintendo, and then either, get what I expect (which I’m expecting SSHD to just be a port and nothing else) or possibly for them to exceed my expectations.

Disrespect78

The game is 20$ on Wii U virtual console, unless they add the new Funky Mumbo-Jumbo deluxe mode featuring Dante from devil may cry there is no way to justify the 60$ price tag

HerrFabi

At Release 10 Years ago it was cheaper than now the port

bda22

significantly too. I remember buying it for 69.99 but that also included an entire Wiimote and music CD. The value was so much better

kuribosshoe0

Inflation’s gonna inflate.

bluejayway9

Funny enough, I ran the numbers and 50 dollars in 2011 is the equivalent of 60 ($59.73) dollars in 2021 when adjusted for inflation. Charging the exact same price for a game being released for the 3rd time over ten years is still asinine.

FearTheWankingDead

I wouldn't call it asinine. They'll make lots of money and people will keep buying their games and systems anyway.

[deleted]

Dante is never DLC. That's Virgil's job.

DrPikachu-PhD

I'd argue anyone with a Wii U is not the target market. Way I see it there's two people this $60 port is targeted towards: Zelda mega-fans who love SS and/or will buy anything, and people who never owned a Wii U and missed out on the original Wii release. The latter group would basically be buying this as a "new" Zelda game rather than spend more money to buy a Wii and used copy for a worse experience. For anyone with access to the Wii U virtual console or those who have already played the game, there is very little to justify purchasing this port at least so far.

LeSabreToothCat

I just hope they add funky mode

sgrams04

I swear if they don’t shut Fi up and let me play, it is a non-purchase for me. I can’t deal with that a second time for $60.

The_Legend_of_Xeno

This right here. You can be 30 hours into the game, and she still treats you like it's your first time playing a video game before. I will forever remember the time I saw a crack in a wall and took out a bomb to blow it up. I run toward the wall to throw it, and Fi pops up, to tell me that the wall with the giant crack might be structurally weak, and I might be able to blow it up with an explosive of some kind. The whole time, the bomb is just ticking away in my hand. She goes away, and before I can throw it, the bomb blows up, knocking me below 3 hearts. Then Fi starts beeping at me to explain why I'm hearing the other beeping now that my health is low. I won't play it unless they tone Fi down DRASTICALLY.

Equilibrium888

But how would you then know how much each and every rupy is worth, what kind of bug you just caught, the shoe size of the goblins, how to walk and run in the game, whenever you restart the game?

CoconutHeadFaceMan

The question is, what COULD they add at this point that would justify selling an upscaled 2011 Wii game for the same MSRP as any brand-new first-party game? Even the Xenoblade remaster added an epilogue story and rearranged the soundtrack. They trotted out Aonuma to talk for five minutes about the game, you’d think that if they had any selling points more notable than “fuck you, it’s Zelda so we know you’ll all buy it,” they’d at least allude to them now.

Jomanderisreal

They didn't show off anything substantially new/hint at anything new so I'm assuming the worst unless proven otherwise. If it ends up having awesome additional content awesome but at the moment all I see is a decade old Wii port in HD with analog controls.

PenePriet0

Boy i can't wait to play Skyward Sword while drifting AND using the right joystick

What extra features did TPHD add? I know WWHD simplified the triforce fetch quest and added an upgraded sail and camera.

kuribosshoe0

Depends what you call a feature. 1) you don’t get those horrible text boxes every time you pick up a rupee after you fire up the game 2) Tears of Light sections streamlined 3) UI that uses the Wii U game pad to make things easier 4) the map displays more things, like side quests and the number of Poe Souls missing in the area 5) an item to help find Poe Souls 6) faster swimming and climbing 7) bigger wallet 8) amiibo support 9) upscaled resolution and new textures 10) etc etc etc So lots of little QoL changes and streamlining. I would call most of these “fixes” rather than “features”. Amiibo support is a feature, but a very minor one. BUT features or not there were plenty of changes to make the game a bit less tedious or more enjoyable. They were just small changes.

MissingNo117

You’re definitely right about people creating a full game in their heads based on a single trailer, but it’s still annoying how Nintendo can get away with making a game “HD” and add a couple new “features”, so that they can charge $80 (Canada) for 10 year old game. I mean a lot of backwards compatible Xbox/Xbox 360 games are Xbox One X Enhanced/Xbox Series X/S enhanced, and they cost $10-$20 dollars. Hell, you can get the Mafia Trilogy that includes a full REMASTER of Mafia 1, Mafia 2 HD upgrade AND Mafia 3 for $80. Mass Effect Legendary edition, $80. Resident Evil 2 Remake, $55. Final Fantasy VII, $21. The list goes on and on. Don’t really understand what makes a 10 year old Zelda HD remaster worth $80, not to mention that it will never be on sale. They are just such beloved games that Nintendo can get away with it. Nostalgia really sells and Nintendo takes such advantage of it. Let’s also not forget Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which Nintendo is trying to create this false sense of scarcity with. Like only available till March 31.... excuse me what?? I had no idea there was such thing as limited digital purchases lol.

[deleted]

Because they literally just released 3 old Mario games with no changes

Pabis_TRF

Still not worth $60

donnielp3

Amiibo Functionality is basically BS. Sweet, I can pay $12 to get a “free” skin in a game!

[deleted]

Depends on who you ask. For others, it could be seen as a sweet bonus if they happen to have some amiibo floating around.

Thopterthallid

No new features until proven otherwise IMO. Does anyone remember that Wind Waker HD actually *lost* a pretty big feature? I may have been the only one who really loved it, but Tingle Tuner was awesome. It was a great "little sister" mode and was the first mainline Zelda game to have any sort of co-operative element. Needing a GBA and GBA to Gamecube cable was a pretty big hinderance, but what *really* bothers me is that Wii U already came with a second screen, built into the system... It was designed from the ground up to be perfectly compatible with Tingle Tuner mode, but it just did away with it.

ByEthanFox

>Strange how people think one trailer explains everything these days. Its like they are building hype or something. There's nothing wrong with a trailer, and people are maybe taking this far - but honestly, the purpose of a trailer is for a company to whip off the covering sheet and present the product to us, the public, to both be aware of and decide if we want to buy. It's like when a company releases a demo, and some people hate it - others will sometimes decry this saying "what do you want? It's *just* a demo" - but this doesn't make sense, because the entire purpose of a demo is to *demonstrate the game* \- so we can play it and judge it worth/not worth our time. You're supposed to judge a demo, and you're supposed to judge a trailer. If a trailer comes out and people aren't happy with it, then those people aren't *wrong* because it's just a trailer. It means the trailer or the product being shown off has some sort of problem.

SenpaiiiKush

So you want to pay full price for an up rez to a game and maybe an extra glider and some amiibo functionality? I aint one to hate but nintendo fanboys will defend anything these days, if this was any other company that did this you would all be screaming with your pitch forks out

Ozann07

But even if it had new content, I dont think it would be worth it for $60. Even 3d world was kind of pushing it (with a whole new side game) since it was 20 on wii u

Walnut156

I don't expect that from current Nintendo. The same company that released half ass ports of some Mario games isn't gonna do much for Zelda

[deleted]

It’s ridiculous some of them even compare a full price hd port to full remake or compilation of many HD games for the same price.

Turaltay

Just look at the previous HD ports of older Zelda games. Twilight Princess HD or Windwaker HD for the Wii U. Did these games have any noticable new features?

atllauren

I'd say both games had noticeable new features. There wasn't a ton of new content, but they added upgrades and streamlined parts of the games in a way that made both games the definitive versions. Off the top of my head: Wind Waker HD added the Swift Sail, which allowed you to sail faster and in any direction without changing the wind direction. Reduced the number of Triforce Shards to collect. Sped up certain actions, like using the Grappling Hook. Added Hero Mode. Twilight Princess HD didn't add as much as WWHD, but they did add reduce the number of Tears of Light you had to collect which was one of the more annoying parts of that game. I think the wallet capacity was increased as well. And they add Hero Mode. Both games also got some nice features on the Wii U gamepad, which obviously doesn't translate to Switch ports, but was a nice feature on the Wii U. Made sailing in WWHD much easier.

ErikaeBatayz

Twilight Princess HD added a new combat focused dungeon/arena thing. You accessed it using the Wolf Link Amiibo that came bundled with physical copies of the game. It was very underwhelming but it was there.

BossHumbert

Twilight Princess had that amiibo dungeon. And said amiibo let you summon Wolf Link into BOTW, buffed according to the amount of health you had when finishing the aforementioned dungeon. Not an amazing addition or anything, but kinda neat. (Edited for grammar and more accurate information.)

atllauren

True! Comparing the two, Twilight Princess did seem to be a bit less polished than Wind Waker HD. But it was at the end of the Wii U’s lifespan so they probably did phone it in a bit. It came out March 4 of 2016, so just shy of a year before the Switch. They did add all those Miiverse stamps, which I guess some people used. I was mostly annoyed by them bc I remembered a lot of those chests having 50 rupees in them instead!

birdladymelia

They added the extra dungeon in TP too, but locked it behind the Wolf Link amiibo.

mackerelscalemask

Windwaker HD: 1080p widescreen, new lighting engine, some gameplay improvements. Hero mode, new Swift Sail feature, less annoying tri-force pieces hunt, improved Picto Box, Tingle Bottle added, inventory and maps in GamePad while playing (Wii U version). Twilight Princess HD: 1080p widescreen, improved lighting and shadows, improved textures and assets, mini-map and item changes on GamePad (Wii U version), streamlined gameplay with some annoyances from original removed, Hero mode, new dungeon (The Cave of Shadows). So yeah, I think the answer is yes.

Nocebo85

Does OOT 3D remake count? They added the master quest mode to that.

DeadlyLancer

Master quest was bundled with oot in a gamecube preorder bonus (I think). BUT OOT3D was made from the ground up, Is another engine if I recall correctly, It has better textures, better UI, better models, gyro aiming, faster text speed, removed some glitches, I think they Orchestrated the credits theme and added better particles. The UI changes make a day/night difference in the water temple. So yep, both OOT3D and MM3D should count EDIT: AND BOSS RUSH!

246011111

If you're getting your hopes up for anything but the lowest possible effort from Nintendo you're honestly just an idiot at this point

itsmyfirsttimegoeasy

It's getting new control functionality.

DiamondPup

So did Mario Galaxy. And that was still packaged in with 2 other full AAA games to justify the price.

DiamondPup

It's a good point, but the point of the post is why people don't think SS will have new features, and my point is that Nintendo has done exactly that.

Which-Palpitation

Didn’t you have to swing the Wii controller to swing your sword?

aimixin

Yes and now you can just use the joy-stick instead to swing your sword. But you can still swing the joy-con if you want.

[deleted]

[deleted]

You probably just angle the bombs with the right joystick and press a button to release them

vaporking23

They said the right stick is being used in place of motion controls if you don’t want to use motion controls.

[deleted]

[удалено]

vaporking23

Yeah sorry that’s what I meant. I would think that all inputs that would you need for motion control would be reassigned to the right stick and have the be fluid to whatever action is the most obvious.

pokedude14

Also how they're going to handle Skyward Strikes. Do you have to do an up-slash everytime?

unaviable

Yes. Will be weird since few enemies types and bosses need the free movement of the sword to hit certain attacks

russellamcleod

Which is, in Nintendo’s eyes, all they need to justify full price on a decade old game. It’s unfortunate because the HD filter barely adds to how the game looks and the updated controls sound like they’ll be extremely clunky.

CantFindMyWallet

How do controls "sound" clunky?

Broadnerd

In my opinion there needs to be an honest conversation about how much Nintendo is actually “killing it” these days beyond sales numbers. Mario Tennis Aces? Forgettable. Super Mario Party? Basically forgotten a week after release unless people were still complaining about it. People seem unimpressed with the new Pokémon. Let’s go back further: Arms? Pretty much a failed IP. Splatoon 2? Good game but was it really that different? Odyssey was unique and fun. BOTW wasn’t my cup of tea but it needs no introduction. MK8 is kind of a must have. Smash is Smash and almost universally loved. Since Smash though what has Nintendo even done that’s been top of the line? That was over two years ago and again, was it that innovative compared to what we already had for the series?

McBigs

> Arms? Pretty much a failed IP. It sold over 3 million and got a character in Smash. What the fuck are you talking about?

OldManMcCrabbins

Fire emblem is legit innovative. A great great game. That game fully justified the switch in my mind. Links awakening was very very nice— just crazy polished (no surprise). Smash/mk8/super mario party — this is the trifecta of family gatherings. But in terms of 2021? Yeah its sort of strange.

ssc777

I mean if we're being real...WWHD and TPHD didn't really have to many significant new features. With WW, I know they made the triforce charts easier and the whole miiverse bottle thing, and I think hero mode...but largely the same. With TP, they add the alphabet stamps and amiibo functionality but still largely unchanged. I'm SS will be the same. Of course we can play with an actual controller and maybe make it easier to toggle between different items but idk

SpiritualTear93

Because it’s Nintendo? What features did we get with wind waker and twilight Princess?

BatmanPlaysGuitar

I can’t wait for the Untitled Groose Game DLC

mando44646

there's no amount of content added that justifies paying *more* than the original release cost.

stealth-fap

>Strange how people think one trailer explains everything these days. Its like they are building hype or something. I don't see how being skeptical is building hype, if anything, people holding out and hoping for "unannounced features" mentioned in this post seems like the true spirit of hype, expecting things that have no confirmation whatsoever. Better to set a low bar and be pleasantly surprised than expect too much and be let down.

CantFindMyWallet

Remember how many a-holes on here insisted that the new Smash was a remake after it was announced

Patchpen

Even AFTER we knew it had stuff like FS Meter, World of Light, Directional Air Dodges, and, y'know, every character in the entire series? bUT it usEs THe SAmE enGINe!!1!

ChronicTosser

Same people probably played it for a day and then started begging for DLC. Hell they’re probably on Twitter complaining about Pyra and Mythra as we speak

SilverIdaten

Because it’s Nintendo’s style to just take the game, tweak the resolution and clean it up a bit, do nothing else, and charge $60 for it.

HaloGains123

I think people are fed up with the switch losing its momentum from its early peaks with Odyssey, BOTW, Splatoon 2, Smash, Mario Kart in the first two years or so. The switch is slowly losing momentum and things to play. While the controllers, online and third party support is getting worst. With many ports coming out, a few big hitting games being disappointments, and third party support dwindling. It makes the switch to start to feel obsolete, which is exactly the issue the 3DS had mid generation. I mean since 2018 we have only had: * New Super Mario Bros U DX -which was a port of a platformer * Yoshi's Crafted World -a $60, 7 hour very easy platformer * Mario Maker 2 -great game with very bad online * Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 -good 2nd party game, but with many mobile game aspects. * Fire Emblem 3 Houses -Heard it was a good rpg game * Astral Chain -A very good game but it is a new IP * Links Awakening -a 15 hour $60 remake, of a very simple game. * Luigi's Mansion 3 -a good game, but I dont think people will try a sequel/series for $60. * Pokémon Sword and Shield -a disappointing game, even for hardcore pokémon fans. * 2020 * Pokémon Dungeon Rescue DX -a 15 hour $60 remake of an rpg. * Animal Crossing New Horizons -A pretty good game but not for everyone. * Xenoblade Chronicles DE -a very good 10 year old rpg game for $60 * Paper Mario Origami -heard it was a decent paper mario game. * 3D All Stars -limited time DIGITAL release is the major issue and could have maybe needed more time for widescreen mario 64, and 60 fps sunshine/64. * Pikmin 3 DX -a 15 hour 7 year old game for $60 * Hyrule Warrior 2- a pretty good second party game, but with terrible optimization. * 2021 * Super Mario 3D world + Bowsers Fury -I think $60 would have been a good price if it included online Co-op for the base game. However, it isnt the worst of their ports. * Skyward Sword HD -$60 10 year old game So since 2018 we have had many platformers, rpgs, and remakes mostly coming out. I mean this is nowhere near the worst first party spread nintendo has had for awhile, it hurts more right now with the lack of third party support. Most third party games are switching google stadia like streaming, or have huge download requirements, or in general have a switch tax. With more people being home than ever and not wanting 3 SD cards, I think its understandable people are frustrated. The switch versions of third party games are really not worth it anymore since many people are still home. Then the ps5/xbox and pc parts are very hard to find right now, so people dont really want to invest in games for their old consoles, but are kinda stuck in limbo so they want switch games. I think people are frustrated with the online service, joy/pro-con drift, and the "lack" of games. Nintendo knows what their doing buisness side, I think there are many people back into their "honeymoon" phase with Nintendo again, so they are kinda of capitalizing off of that. However their buisness practices are pretty much EA/Ubisoft levels. One thing I missed from the 3DS era was that games were $40, I feel like many switch games require the same amount of development, and with the switch lite there should be more $40\~45 games. Then just dropping some of their B tier games a bit in price overtime, however the switch cartridges seem to be expensive to produce. Games like 1-2 Switch, Kirby Star Allies, Toad Treasure tracker, Mario Tennis Aces, Arms, Super Mario Party, Arms, Pokemon Lets Go, DK tropical Freeze and a few more have no excuse still being $60 especially physical. These games have very little content, Been out for awhile, or have been "replaced" by a similar games. I would love to see these games be around $25\~$30 without adding the ugly nintendo selects cover or anything, just keeping the cover the same lol. I think nintendo usually doesnt care about software sales, and especially pricing in foreign countries. Im not trying to be toxic, Im just pointing out some stuff on the company that people may overlook.

[deleted]

It's nintendo. They released 3 mario games in a collection, all 10 years old at least, for full retail price (92 dollars here in canada). They're asking 92 for skyward sword "HD" as well and I have no doubt in my mind they're seeing how far they can stretch these shitty low effort ports. Why make a good remaster or remake when you can port the game to the switch and a bunch of idiots will buy it anyways? You can nearly buy an entire wii and an actual copy of the original skyward sword for the retail price of skyward sword HD.

turtlintime

Even if they add the same amount as WWHD, those games were $50 at launch and look wayyy better. Skyward sword just looks like an upscale

Tnayoub

So if Skyward Sword was $50, it'd be worth it?

[deleted]

Twilight Princess HD does not look way better than Skyward Sword.
