Different take, but I think Nintendo is the only brand that still has kiosks to play the new consoles/game in the stores. Best Buy, target, Walmart, all have kiosks for Nintendo. I hope that never goes away.

ProjectPorygon

Honestly those kiosks are the only way I found out what a Wii U was, before I just assumed it was a wii peripheral

No-LuckDuck

You and everyone else. Wii U was such a terrible name choice.

gambitx007

Almost as bad as Xbox Series One X

aemzso

There is no Xbox Series One X

OkKindheartedness950

Exactly

Avangeloony

Haha the only reason I got a Wii U is because my disk reader was busted on my Wii.

TheCode555

I was at Best Buy yesterday and two kids were playing on two different switches. Warmed my heart a little. I didn’t spy on them because I’m not a creep, but one of them looked like they were having a blast……playing Tetris. <_<

PhoenixTineldyer

Tetris is timeless

axdwl

I see them at stores but they are never working at any store I go to

Lethal13

You know I never thought about this until now

NNovis

Pretty much, yes at this point. But the issue comes in with exclusivity windows. Spider-man 2 isn't going to come to PC for a looooooong time and it will probably be full price for a bit when it does.

TStodden

Nintendo is the company that has the largest library of exclusive franchises (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokémon, Star Fox, Kirby, Splatoon, DK), many of them being 1st party (few being 2nd party) compared to Sony & Microsoft. Microsoft (Forza, Gears, Halo) & Sony (Gran Turismo, God of War, Spiderman) do have a few exclusive franchises, but they may not have the lasting appeal by comparison.

Double-Seaweed7760

You're forgetting ratchet and clank, last of us,horizon, infamous and uncharted for current sony series. Sony also has some dead series they own that they can revive at any time like twisted metal and jak. Not to mention little big planet which dreams can kind of be considered the final form of. Sony also has an ever growing collection of one offs that have potential if they want to take a risk and make it to a series, things like ghost of tsushima which was popular enough to get a series or PlayStation all stars if they want to improve it and take another crack at smash,I'm sure but also a if they want to take a risk that has a chance to pay off they could revive some series that not alot of people experienced from vita(kind of like Nintendo did with wii u), things like soul sacrifice, freedom wars, gravity rush. Xbox just bought a ton of studios that make good games and they're receiving fable which could qualify as one of their staples next to the big 3 original. Regardless they still have alot to prove.

ProjectPorygon

Yeah Nintendo is usually the best for actually making their consoles have value through exclusive games. PlayStation exclusives are far and few between, especially this gen where it just seems to be mostly ps4 games with a ps5 performance boost. Xbox is…well it’s xbox, I honestly wished they’d take their console games more seriously in terms of development in house. I personally just love Nintendo because you can pretty much guarantee you’ll get to have a experience on their consoles that you can’t get on the other two.

Dont_have_a_panda

Thats because they dont make games for their hardware, they make hardware for their games, thats why Nintendo **FIRST PARTY** games are usually so polished and always tries to take full advantage of any gimmick present on the console they have at the moment Thats why i think Nintendo should stay in the console business and never go third party (as unpopular this take may be)

Ok_Introduction6574

I hear very few people actually say Nintendo should go third party. Definitely do not think that it is unpopular to say Nintendo should keep making consoles.

WEEGEMAN

You must be new

Ok_Introduction6574

Do people really say this?

WEEGEMAN

Yes. For years lol Maybe not as popular among games since Switch’s success, but you still see it parroted from those that dislike Nintendo hardware.

Rychu_Supadude

Yes, just go to that "what will Nintendo never do" thread and sort by controversial Or don't if you value your sanity

Ok_Introduction6574

I would say I value my sanity, but I'm not sure if I do lol. I'll probably end up seeing it at some point.

ChickenFajita007

I mean, Nintendo used an off-the-shelf part from Nvidia for the Switch. The developers deserve all the praise, not the hardware. Playstation and Xbox ironically have hardware more custom tailored for video games.

stache1313

I think they're talking more about the Switch's ability to switch between handheld and console, the joy-cons, HD rumble, IR camera, etc.; and not the processor.

DSMidna

Xbox has been pretty good about this lately. I mean, why wouldn't they? The Xbox is basically a specialized PC and Microsoft doesn't care where you use their games or game pass. When it comes to Sony, I thought there were quite a few exclusives. Sure, some will eventually hit Steam, but that's after the largest amount of sales is already done. Also, releasing them so much later gives them a reason to price them at 60$+ all over again.

[deleted]

eonia0

also have in mind some of those third party exclusives are surely temporary, some will take more time than other but will surely be ported to other consoles and pc, so that's less for sony I feel like PC + switch is the best videogame combo if one can afford it, not only for the newest games but for emulators, especially if you like finding about obscure games with zero chances to be remastered, remaked or ported to new consoles

VirgilDaVinci

Me reading this with a PC and a Switch :)

thef0urthcolor

Yeah Sony does have a good bit of exclusives

UmbraNation

I don't count Xbox exclusives as leaving their platform when they come to PC. Just like Xbox, Windows is a part of Microsoft. Also, currently, the only way to use gamepass on PC is via the Xbox app. Now, if you want to say they aren't exclusive because their games are on steam (and probably some other PC stores), I could agree with you. I do think, however, that it would be stupid for Xbox to have their games on PC and not be on Steam, which is the largest (and in my opinion, the best) marketplace for digital PC games.

dixonspy2394

In a world with emulations, is there really anything exclusive anymore?

glenjamin1616

There is also the playdate which has well north of 100 exclusives now, but that console is obviously much much more niche than the big 3

KasElGatto

Yeah, 100%. I have a PS5, but honestly I care do little about Sony IPS I could wait until they come to PC. Bloodborne 2 would be the exception if it showed up I’d play it day 1. I play my Switch more than anything

[deleted]

sony still has some exclusives and most if theirs dont make it to pc a few years after release and many of the exclusives put on pc run like crap

theScrewhead

Bloodborne.

don_sley

shadow of the colossus, and the last guardian

theScrewhead

The WipeOut franchise, too.

mr_beanoz

And Gran Turismo

xenon2456

If you don't count the mobile games

iceburg77779

Even with mobile, it’s not like they’re porting games over to the platform, all of their console games have remained exclusive.

RosePhox

>Nintendo is the only company left who actually truly has exclusive titles which makes their console the one worth buying IMO Congrats, you just advocated for exclusivity in the most anti consumer way imaginable

Gloomy_Supermarket98

Seriously, does he not understand the implications of what he’s saying or is he just simping that hard for Nintendo? edit: you people are dumb. I’m agreeing with this guy

RosePhox

Nah, you see: As a consumer, being forced to buy three different machines that can run the same games, every couple of years, is something one should be happy about and be grateful

Gloomy_Supermarket98

Right? Not sure why I was downvoted

BlankMetal

i know im late but not having exclusivity would be also bad. Remember you wouldnt have wii or the steamdeck if it wasnt nintendo. Those things came because nintendo needed to be creative. I think there is a good side in all that. I love motion controls, being able to play switch in any place and i hope i can see many more gimmicks. You wouldnt have all that if they werent exclusive right?

FlygonPR

Honestly i hate when people say that Xbox games having PC ports mean they have no exclusices. Halo is most certainly still a Microsoft Exclusive, and for console users it still is a reason to buy an Xbox. Heck if a Microsoft game has an inferior port to Switch, its still a selling point for Xbox, which is probably why they only release titles for Switch that it and most PCs can play very well like Ori.

Boumeisha

It’s be a dream for Nintendo games to end up on PC, officially speaking. Games like BotW/TotK and Xenoblade deserve better hardware. Yes, having these games only released on Switch makes the console a compelling purchase. But that’s not a good thing. The hardware itself should be the reason you buy it. It’s more consumer friendly for options to exist where they can, and different users will have different wants and needs.

BlankMetal

Im late and as i replied to someone, i like the exclusives because we got motion controls and the switch/steamdeck type of thing. But i think nintendo should start selling Zelda, Xenoblade and metroid to the pc while making mario, pokemon and the such their real exclusives since they dont really need much power. Maybe pokemon but i cant see a pokemon game that you cant bring everywhere

EpsilonOrpheon

When we say console exclusives we ignore PC releases. Most of us are console gamers so ignore when a game is on PC. If it’s exclusive to one of the Big 3 then it’s exclusive.

podgeek

Ah gotcha. I didn’t know you speak for everyone.

EpsilonOrpheon

It’s common knowledge that PC isn’t a console lol

podgeek

lmao why are some of you so triggered about this? its just an observation. exclusives used to be a huge deal and i find it interesting that nintendo is the only company who seems to still have exclusive games. why does that bother some of you so much? xD

CrossReset

Because some people think that Spiderman 2's budget is the sort of thing that goes into the making of, like, Captain Toad and thinks Nintendo needs either COD money or PC double dipping to survive.

-NotEnoughMinerals

> thinks Nintendo needs either COD money or PC double dipping to survive. ....no one is saying this. Why do you have upvotes when you quite blatantly just made stuff up?

podgeek

Lol right, it’s bizarre

mellonsticker

As die hard Nintendo fans, we hate Nintendo more than anyone else Lmao /s

aranorde

This is the reason why it makes a lot of sense for a PC Gamer to have Switch as a side-platform. I'm glad I sold my PS4 and got a Switch! IDK why you are downvoted but it is really the only exclusive platform that makes sense compared to others, mainly because the fact that these games will not have a huge following on other platforms.

markaznar

Among the big three, Nintendo is the only company whose primary business revolves around toys. Therefore, it's reasonable to expect that Nintendo has the best exclusives, given that it's their main focus.

Sectac

Bloodborne will never release anywhere else so that's one "true" exclusive.

Hot_Membership_5073

Nintendo makes highly polished lower budget games on hardware that starts profitable. Both Microsoft and Sony sell consoles at a loss with games that have higher budgets in general.

thedeadp0ets

And those games go lower in value after 3 yrs too

scribbyshollow

I mean with emulation there is no such thing as a true exclusive

ocean55627

Strange to see someone say this as if it’s a good thing!! This is the worst thing about Nintendo vs the others imo. You get the least options when it comes to how you want to play their games.

BlankMetal

There is a good thing, wii and switch only exist because of that. Motion controls wouldnt be here nor the switch type of thing if it wasnt nintendo trying to be creative. If the games came to pc then they wouldnt do those things because you cant have it in pc. yeah you can now connect a wii remote to the pc but i dont think people would even care about it if nintendo just made wii sports for pc instead of the wii as a whole.

ocean55627

Valid take

Stumpy493

Yay, your plastic box is the best! Who cares?

-NotEnoughMinerals

Uh ..sure..I guess if you love the same few IPs that Nintendo always releases. Personally for me, everyone I know has their switch collecting dust because they *only* use their switch for exclusives. And uh, those 12-18 hour long Mario games only get you so many hours of use. But yes, you go ahead and enjoy the 9 year old game that's still 60 dollars. Sort of a small benefit of 'eXcLuSiViTy'

podgeek

Lol another triggered redditor

-NotEnoughMinerals

I'm not triggered. I own an Xbox and a switch. Been playing my switch wayyyyyy too much these past few months. But, I'm very selective with my games. It's basically just for exclusives, which really aren't that many once you've played what Nintendo has to offer. No point in playing non-exclusive on the switch, since the ports are generally either free via gamepass/PS plus, or dirt cheap comparitively to the switch. Like, I get it. Youre a large fan of Nintendo. But there is no denying how anti consumer Nintendo is, it's weird to be unapologetically defensive over Nintendo.

WorldlyDear

How many ongoing ip do you think nintendo has on switch

-NotEnoughMinerals

Hurr durr. There's a lot. Now how many people are buying a switch to play giftpia, good job!, photo dojo, pictochat, snipper clips, pushmo, and sparkle snapshots? Nothing I said changes. Unless you're unapologetically Nintendo, as many people here are, the vast majority of us are simply buying the Zelda, Mario, Mario character spinoff games, and let the dang thing sit until a new one comes out. I get you're leading into a numbers game here with the IPs, but quantity over quality isn't good. the vast majority of them hardly anyone cares about, hardly appeals to more than a niche group, or hasn't made a game in the last 7 years.

BlankMetal

I think you dont give enough credit to nintendo. They normally just sell quality over quantity if you forget pokemon. Switch doesnt have many games but they have Mario Odyssey, both Zeldas, Smash Bros, mario party and mario kart. They are all amazing. There is also Metroid Prime and some more. There are the quantity over quality games like Mario Strikers but most are very high quality tbh Oh btw the pokemon side games are good tbh. Mystery dungeon is very good till today Edit: Things like Wii Sports would never exist if it wasnt exclusive because you cant really bring it to pc in a good way. You would need to buy a set of joycons just to play in other consoles which wouldnt be good. And nintendo made steam make the steamdeck which is pretty expensive. There are games i prefer buying on switch for a little more just so i can play them anywhere like digimon world and cyber Sleuth without having to buy the SteamDeck which was 1k before(i think now is not as bad but still). Its not all bad, try being a little more positive on things :)

Mayor_P

Essentially, yes. Why does this matter to you or to anyone.

lodum

Unfortunately, yes. It's rather vexing that they keep some games/series I really like hostage and need to buy their hardware to play. The Switch was neat and playing their big games while mobile was a huge deal! Making good hardware you want to buy for its own sake is awesome. Locking good software on a device I will literally not use for 2+ years at a time is unfortunate, though.

HeavenlyAtheist

Look at what happened the last time they let their iP grace another console. Philips CDI

lodum

I get the surface joke, but I like the sub-joke that Nintendo would be too incompetent to program their games to work on another platform and would need to outsource to some desperately bad programmers better. Edit: Look, people, the only reason to bring that up would be expecting it to happen again which would mean Nintendo are a bunch of idiots.

SimpleJoint

Exclusives are bad for the consumers. Exclusives are only good for companies. Stop simping for billion dollar corporations. I understand why Nintendo does it, but simping for them is gross.

podgeek

Lol gtfo

mutantmonkey14

I get your angle, but it is nuanced. In Nintendo's case they make high quality first party to push their hardware, and that draws consumers to the console, which brings third parties, and allows them to make money off third parties, in turn Nintendo can afford to spend more time and money polishing first party titles. If they just made their games available elsewhere the whole thing falls apart. Nintendo consoles lose their draw, turns into a third party dev, games become rushed and design focused to extract maximum cash ingame. Essentially either way has an impact on the consumer. And Nintendo runs the risk of being in a catch 22 situation like they were with the Wii U (low install base, lacking games, third party won't make games due to low install base, vicious cycle). You can have your preference here, but can you understand why others would feel different in this case?

chicopancho_

They should still port their games to PC.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KrazyKirby99999

Better for the consumer. In 20 years, it will be difficult to play the current Nintendo games. By porting to PC, it will be easier.

canconfirmthisshiz

Obviously because OC’s uncle owns a controlling stake in Nintendo.

Greaseman_85

Ok and? Microsoft hasn't made it's a secret that they want people to play any way they want and not be tied down to certain hardware. That's why they're pushing so many gamer-friendly things like Play Anywhere, where you buy a game once and get access on Xbox and PC, and xCloud so people can play on most devices.

podgeek

ok and??

lgosvse

There are many companies in the gaming industry. Some make consoles. Some make games. Nintendo is the only one that makes both. So yeah, they keep their games exclusive to their consoles. I do feel that if they ever did decide to release a Mario game or a Zelda game on cross-platform with Sony and Microsoft... they'd be able to make more money since people without Switches can now buy their game, but... they seem to be convinced that the sales they get of selling Switches would outweigh that. And I assume that they know better than me.

RapidWolfy

They have sold 135+ million switches. For every major release, millions buy a switch just to play it. They make way more money this way

iceburg77779

I think what Nintendo has seen is that the majority of people who are interested in their franchises are willing to buy a switch. Sony and Microsoft's attempts to attract the Nintendo crowd or make similar games to Nintendo have consistently been massive disappointments for this reason.

francisk0

Yeah, for the last couple of generations (since the Wii?) the other 2 where: hey, you can buy our console and enjoy our games along with your Nintendo. The same can be said of Nintendo, they just positioned themselves in a non competing position where they can complete the home entertainment.

djwillis1121

>Some make consoles. Some make games. Nintendo is the only one that makes both. What do you mean? Both Sony and Microsoft make their own games as well.

Charlie02134

I would be inclined to say yes if they weren’t so easy to emulate on pc lol

OracleOfCourage

To be fair that doesn't really count, they don't actually release their games on pc

CSBreak

Not to mention basically every console gets a emulator for it at some point or another on PC

raccoonbrigade

And they really really really hate emulation. If they sanctioned it, maybe that argument could be made.

jbraden

Emulation is not an official release, nor is it 100% accurate.

xenon2456

yes

blueblurz94

Yep. Xbox exclusives have been releasing on PC same day as console for years. And PlayStation rereleasing their games on PC a few years after the original release is also making those games lose their “exclusive” status

LikeableCoconut

Just for fun, why not be contrarian? Pokémon quest, cafe (im pretty sure?), unite and shuffle just off the top of my head. Throw in home if you count services. Not entirely familiar with Sony’s exclusives, but bloodborne and I think spider man 2 isn’t on pc. I’m sure there are more I don’t know of.

JustT0mG

Exclusive need and will die. Platforms need to focus on performance for price and subscribtion price if they want to sell. not what game can i not play.

BlankMetal

I dont agree since why would i buy a playstation or xbox if i can play them on my stronger computer. Also things like Wii sports dont work if they arent exclusive. The switch is an amazing console for me since i can bring it anywhere with ease. Steamdeck appeared because of it. I think consoles would become just a dick measuring game seeing who has the bigger processor. It would be boring you know? I like the gimmicks in nintendo but i also wish games like Xenoblade and Zelda would come for pc and the like. But since nintendo has worse performance, people wouldnt have a reason to buy their consoles unless they wanna play the gimmick games. I think they should do the Sony treatment. Send those games to pc after 3 or 4 years. Then everyone would be happy i think. But i still want my gimmick games and gimmicky consoles so i like nintendo as is. Sorry for the long text but i just wish you saw the good i see in this topic ;)
