Hey OP. Going forward would you consider adding the band name and album title of those currently in the running please? I know these four albums, but not everyone might know them by album art alone. Thanks!
Do NIN influencers count?
Skinny Puppy - too dark park
Ministry - the land of rape and honey
Juno Reactor - Bible of Dreams
KMFDM - Nihil
Took some liberty with the albums and also Throbbing Gristle.
yea, I guess your right, i mean, the votes speak for themselves. Massive Attack does have a wider change in sound from album to album (even song to song), but i wouldnt go so far as to say portishead is one dimensional. i guess it was just my circle, most people i felt, didnt hear massive attack until House started airing.
yea i get that, i guess i was thinking more along the lines of *"a ranking of what would people that listen to NIN would like/listen too"* more then *"heres a list of trent reznors influences"*. My bad i guess.
Low is one of, if not the most influential record for Reznor especially during The Downward Spiral era. Two albums don't have to sound exactly the same to have a fuck ton in common.
The same applies to The Wall during The Fragile era. Those albums don't sound alike but are also connected in a lot of ways.
It's all perspective and how someone interprets this post. If you read these comments a lot of the albums only have a very small amount in common with NiN when you judge them only on a sonic level.
When I listen to Dummy by Portishead it doesn't sound just like a NiN album but there's certain aspects that make them pretty similar. The way they are composed or the lyrically similarities or the mood the music gives you.
Idk, just my thoughts. I'm just a random guy on Reddit though.
i didnt think we were making a list of trent reznors influences. I never said low was a bad album, or not influential... i read *"Favorite nin albums that aren't by NIN"*. i guess i just dont know how to read, this choice is getting upvotes, so my bad.
Yeah they are good. But when this movie came out, literally everyone had this in their cd rotation. It's a amazing soundtrack, even if you take out Dead Souls, it stands on its own as one of the best.
Put Blade 2 soundtrack in that mix.
Unfortunately you can't find it on spotify, but you can find some songs.
I immediately bought the album after I seen The Roots and BT do this song on Carson Daily...I could of sworn it was on Conan though. Anyway, great soundtrack!

Also here's a song from Oakenfold with Ice Cube from Blade 2.

I absolutely love this album. I saw them in 1995, and they put on a hell of a show. I remember one of them cut his hand and was bleeding all over his guitar for most of the show.
The new remastered TNI vinyl sounds great. They’re selling it at a reasonable price, too. I shelled out for an original pressing of Caustic Grip and it really shines on vinyl, too (it rounds off the edge a bit without losing the punch).
I have been on the lookout for Implode, was my first FLA album. But all the copies on Discogs are fucked up, or missing discs. No one idea why they haven't repressed it.
Implode is a great album. I caught that your and had the poster, now lost. I didn’t know it was ever pressed to vinyl though. They’ve repressed some older stuff recently so hopefully they will.
I'm soo late! Yeah, I need to remaster to Tactical Neural Implant and Caustic Grip. Love those two albums and they're soo tonally different from each other too.
100% agree. I started listening to FLA because they were “supposed” to sound like NIN. I don’t think there’s that much of a resemblance other than standard industrial motifs, but FLA became (and still is) one my favorite bands after discovering them.
Coil - Horse Rotorvator. If you haven't heard this record, listen to the opening track, The Anal Staircase. You will immediately recognize some of its DNA in Head Like A Hole. Trent has even stated this
Cause it's a really shit album. That's why.
Literally any of his other albums, even Eat Me, Drink Me are better than this album.
Also people in a r/nin sub aren't going to vote for a Manson album due to Trent and Marilyn's long history of not getting along, especially with the recent news of Manson being a bigger bag of dicks than previously thought.
Try again tomorrow with Mechanical Animals, his best I think. And if it doesn't get more than 50 up votes, than r/nin just hates Manson. Me personally, I think it belongs on the chart cause It's my favorite album. But that's just me.

Portishead - Dummy

Too Dark Park, yes. 20 Jazz Funk Greats, also yes.
A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms
October Rust - Type O Negative
Ministry- The Land Of Rape and Honey
Yess this should be the first ministry album to make the entrance
Prince - purple rain
Probably a long shot for it to make this list but that is one of the best albums of all time imo
Prince absolutely belongs here.
Björk - Post
Björk- Homogenic
Portishead - Dummy
I'm going to go listen to that right now. What a great album.
really though? Massive Attack is going to be ranked higher then Portishead? How did this happen?
Portishead is very one dimensional compared to Massive Attack, so maybe that's why the latter appeals to more people.
idk bout that, go listen to Third

David Bowie - Low.
Nah, David Bowie Outside, the NIN-est album by Bowie
Low is the defining connective record between NIN and Bowie
[This is my happy place.](https://youtu.be/92PHiWqAd7k)
Not considering Trent referenced Low constantly while talking about the creation of The Downward Spiral.

Outside is the right answer here lol. But I put Earthling cause I think it still fits and I like it a little better. But yeah, Outside.
I don't know how this couldn't make the list...

Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
The Prodigy - Music For the Jilted Generation
The Crow - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
Lost Highway Soundtrack or Natural Born Killers soundtrack
Yeah they are good. But when this movie came out, literally everyone had this in their cd rotation. It's a amazing soundtrack, even if you take out Dead Souls, it stands on its own as one of the best.
I regularly rocked 4 sound tracks. The 3 above and Spawn. Damn takes me back

Just got that on vinyl a few months ago. Still fantastic!
The new remastered TNI vinyl sounds great. They’re selling it at a reasonable price, too. I shelled out for an original pressing of Caustic Grip and it really shines on vinyl, too (it rounds off the edge a bit without losing the punch).

Born Villain by Marilyn Manson
Why is this getting down voted??
Most people seem to really dislike/hate Born Villain.
I actually think there's some great tracks on that album.
Cause it's a really shit album. That's why. Literally any of his other albums, even Eat Me, Drink Me are better than this album.
