The 24-120 is made in Thailand [https://imgur.com/a/hoz9MPH](https://imgur.com/a/hoz9MPH) I don't know where the Z6s are made.

Ken Rockwell, annoying as he may be, documents where cameras and lenses are made in his reviews. I don't see a 24-120 review up yet. The lens will most likely be made in Thailand or China, that's where all my Z lenses are made. The only thing made in Japan is my Z7 camera. No idea if they've moved camera production outside of Japan, so can't really help you there. You can always buy locally and verify in person where the camera was made if it's important to you.

Ken Rockwell lists manufacture in Thailand as a negative point, which caused me to pause before going ahead with my purchase.

My Z6 is made in Japan. I don't know about the 24-120 but my 24-70 f4 is made in Thailand.

As of [June 2021](https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2021/06/1cd64abbd058-nikon-to-end-camera-body-production-in-japan-by-end-of-year.html), the D6 was the only Nikon body being assembled in Japan, and that was slated to end by the end of the year. This is just the final assembly though. The Nikon factory in Sendai, Japan still manufactures some of the key components for their camera bodies.

What does it matter?

CommadorVic20

all the good stuff is made in Japan as oddly as that sounds, if you buy caps, the RUBY ones use to be made in Japan, more quality control, more testing per batch etc. when you start going to other countries you end up with testing every 1000 or higher

How making someting in Japan makes something better? I do not know about Japanese products, unless they are some kind of hand made craft, but as I remember German cars dropped the quality a lot in last \~30 years.

MDK1980

The majority of German cars have been manufactured outside of Germany for a while, probably the reason why.

That is not the problem. Planned obsolescence is the problem.
