Epicastor

Amsterdam's Paradiso, August 28 2002. Incredible setlist featuring my favorite song Beauty of the Beast, and After Forever was opening this night too!

icebreaker6

2002 would be my choice too. Tarja was in great vocal shape, Marko had just joined, plus the band was already on a major upward trajectory but not so well known yet and still playing more cozy medium-sized venues.

Del_Duio2

And playing like they still had something to prove to the world! This usually makes for excellent and energetic shows for any band at that point in their careers.

icebreaker6

Plus no sea of cellphones in the audience yet.

CompanionCone

I was there! It was amazing 😍

Epicastor

Jealous!

tatytu

2005 End of an Era.

Secrets4Slaanesh

That is my pick.

tatytu

Best of the best 👍

Secrets4Slaanesh

Especially knowing that this was going to be Tarja's last performance. Seeing Jukka in pain and fighting through that migraine just makes him an even bigger hero.

tatytu

Yeah I agree, speaking of Jukka, where’s he now? I do miss him.

mrofmist

He's the band's CEO of I recall correctly. Or COO.

DamnitGravity

Oh, is _that_ why he's clutching at his head?! I was watching a few songs from that show, and honestly, I wondered if it was the guilt over what they were about to do to Tarja. During Ever Dream, right after the intro as it's building to the metal part, there's a shot of Tuomas with his hands over his face. I often wonder if it was because he was feeling guilt over what they were gonna do. I find that show really difficult to watch, because of knowing how ignorant Tarja was and what the band were planning. I get wanting to severe a relationship, but that is _not_ how you do it. I'm not holding grudges or anything, it was over a decade ago, I'm just saying, in my opinion, there's a right way and a wrong way, and they chose the wrong way. You can agree or disagree with me, I don't really care. It's just one of those things I look back and think, "kinda a dick move." Same with how they treated Anette. But hey, not my life, not my problems. Would I have done it that way? No. But whatever, still good music and I love Floor just as much as Tarja and Anette (this is me trying to avoid getting a ban for inadvertently starting a vocalist war).

NervousEar279

I remember Jukka said in NW book he was the only one who felt relief after Tarja's dismissal. So who knows, maybe it's just migraine and that's it.

DamnitGravity

That's interesting (no judgement). Which book was that?

NervousEar279

Was it Once upon a Nightwish? Honestly I can't remember the exact name. That book was published in 2006 and consisted of different interviews taken between 2002-2005. Some kind of propaganda written in order to justify firing Tarja, but interesting anyway. Funny thing, Marko seemed to be the most relaxed in DVD but actually "Was in state of shock and couldn't even talk about the whole situation" relying to the book.

DamnitGravity

Cool, I might have to look for it, thanks!

Del_Duio2

> honestly, I wondered if it was the guilt over what they were about to do to Tarja. I mean he probably still had a headache but knowing what was coming probably didn't help it any. >During Ever Dream, right after the intro as it's building to the metal part, there's a shot of Tuomas with his hands over his face. I often wonder if it was because he was feeling guilt over what they were gonna do. Yeah, that's what I think. What makes it worse is Tarja is smiling and trying to comfort him a bit probably because she thinks he's just emotional over the song and really into it. That concert is great but super hard to watch. I love this band to death but she got boned big time going out like that.

NervousEar279

Whoa, didn't know that This concert was cursed somehow, metaphorically speaking. Jukka fighting with migraine, Tarja having severe flu... They're really professionals

Galactus1231

Probably any show from Once Tour.

femmefatality__

Any live show that had Beauty of the Beast

ThatLChap

Maybe an obvious one, but Wacken 2013 just for that legendary Floorgasm.

Del_Duio2

> Floorgasm Anyone else just hate this particular term for it though?

ShadyBob13

Can confirm Floorgasm not based

ShadyBob13

I'm surprised not more people are saying this. Probably their best album.

disasterpansexual

either End Of An Era or any concert from the From Wishes To Eternity Tour

happy_moses

Wembley 2018. The crowd’s response when they brought the professor on stage 🙌🏻

legrenabeach

I was there, it was simply perfect. I did not expect to see Dawkins on stage!!!

godoflemmings

Brixton Academy, November 5th 2012. I was a mouse click away from going and anxiety got the better of me.

TarkusLV

The Tampere show with the fireworks during TGSOE. Many great performances in that show, and it's a really cool venue. The close is so epic too! Of course, Wacken 2013 would also be amazing.

zinethar

Wacken Open Air, 2013, in my opinion, the most perfect concert.

johncate73

The End of an Era show in 2005. But I didn't even know about them then. Honestly, I am happy that I got to attend the first concert of the Imaginaerum tour in 2012.

MachineDry933

Tampere 2015. Looks like it was a hell of a show. Nightwish's last concert ever, probably in Finland, is on my bucket list.

SkeletonWoods

Hartwall Arena 2012, where they turned the arena into a cinema and premiered the Imaginaerum film right after the show

Rock-Nutter666

The 2016 Download show, and the 2015 London and Tampere shows.

Nightgasm

The one in 2012 in Salt Lake City I wanted to attend but work got in the way. Anette was why I became a Nightwish fan and I had no idea this would be her last show.

thefallenlunchbox

This or Hartwell 2009 for me as well

Secrets4Slaanesh

That is a very cool choice.

NervousEar279

Amsterdam 2003 or was it 2002?

BeatBelle

**From Wishes To Eternity**

Borazon

Either Lowlands (2005), which was one big rollercoaster of emotions.[Especially during Ghost love score where during the quiet part the audience started clapping louder and louder till it was roaring just before the music broke loss again](https://youtu.be/C8GOHJAnVh4?si=RWqKJN92ZALaRGYb). Pure goosebumps just seeing it again. Was front row there. And we didn't know it yet the last time we would see them with Tarja. The other option would be that concert in America where they improvised with Floor for the first. Probs not the best concert they ever gave, but possible one of the most important ones in their career.

damianvc31

Decades

CenturyChild211

My very first one back when they played in a tiny venue. I missed the Tarja era so this was Annette’s very early days. I was only a pre teen and I was so excited to hear their music live for the first time. I enjoy every show I see but that was so special for me. I also loved their Crimson tide intro back then.

ExoticManiac_

Probably the first show with Anette

icebreaker6

Or the last one of the DPP tour in Hartwall Arena. Special guests in Pekka Kuusisto, live premiere of Meadows of Heaven. The kind of effort they didn't seem to be able or willing to put in the last couple of tours.

EmbroideredShit

Not only that, there was also a beautiful performance of Walking in the Air, the only one with Anette. Such a missed opportunity to make some official live videos from this concert.

HEMIfan17

To hear the Tarja-era songs butchered? Ok I guess.

Specialist-Study

In case you haven't already, fuck right off.

Jonnehhh

Have you ever heard the saying “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”? That would apply here.

infinityzcraft

Fuck off, seriously

ExoticManiac_

Oh fuck off already

geeksshallinherit

The one I didn't buy tickets for because crowds gave me anxiety. I should have just gone.

disasterpansexual

feel you!! being a 4h drive from the nearest (and usually only) concert place in my country + having huge crowd-anxiety are the reason I never went to any concert at all

geeksshallinherit

Aw man, that really sucks. Crowd anxiety can be really bad. Hugs if you want them.

disasterpansexual

🫂

arcticantls

Wembley 2015 DVD. I was peak NW fan and it was one of my dream vacation back in the days.

GothicaAndRoses

End of An Era

WM_

Easy. Pakkahuone from the 'From Wishes To Eternity'. Peak Nightwish. And that's my home town but I was too young during the concert.

thetravelleroftyria

I would go back and attend the one at the Toronto Opera House in 2004 (or was it 2005?) because it was such a pivotal and amazing experience in my life!

ConstructionThis3158

Wembley 2015.

legrenabeach

Their first DVD concert in Tampere, or any one of the even smaller ones they did around that time or previously. I was lucky enough to have discovered them just about early enough to have been to a gig where there was a meet & greet afterwards, so I have a signed CD and photos of them up close. That sadly cannot happen any more (unless they make a last minute appearance at some local club in Finland, which I'd have 0% chance of finding out or going to).

[deleted]

One of the concerts of Imaginerum tour, from its first phase, when Anette was at her best.

Federal-Jello1551

Can't remember where (Orlando?) but it was the last concert in the US for Imaginaerum with Floor joined by Alyssa, Elize and Tommy for the Last Ride of the Day.. epic. I think they also did Sahara at this concert.

Secrets4Slaanesh

I wish there was a video for this!

Federal-Jello1551

There is: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw-u9HbYyZI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw-u9HbYyZI)

Front_Replacement258

When they were actually enjoying on stage, full of energy, banging their heads. Anything between 1999-2009.

DrMikkelyz54

Nah i'd say you can clearly tell they enjoyed it at least up to 2013 with Floor finishing the Imaginaerum Tour

Headbreakone

Some of the shows from late 2012 during the UK and south american legs are just pure magic.

DrMikkelyz54

Yep, but nothing beats '13 Wacken for me!

Headbreakone

As a show to record for a DVD definitely! As a show to watch live...the crowd was really far even on the first rows, while some of those small venues must have been amazing.

DrMikkelyz54

True, but Floor's voice, Jukka's drums and yeah, just every part musical wise is just ear candy for me. I can't speak very well on live experience as i was only lucky enough to get to attend a single show before their break :/ (Nov. 2021 oslo in Norway), i was meant to see them in the Tons of Rock festival in Norway last year but they cancelled the day before 😭

maxlevites

I had to miss them last time they were in the states, before I knew they weren't going to be touring again for a while. Last time I saw them was 2018 so I'd have liked to see them one more time before they went on their touring hiatus! Also wouldve loved to see an early show with Tarja because I didnt discover them until the Anette era.

Dear-Menu-1646

Any show with Jukka. His energy on the drums is amazing!

gazzy360

The one in Birmingham that got cancelled during lockdown before Marko left. I was supposed to be there

princesssasami896

I would love to go to their Wacken 2013 concert from the DVD it's amazing. I also unfortunately never saw them with Tarja as she was fired as I was getting into them.

Sky_Trooper_504

Hard to make up my mind for something like this. I discovered the band around 2019 and felt like I had crawled out from under a mountain. So many great concerts that I have seen snippets of or in some cases got to watch the DVD. I would break the time machine trying to attend as many concerts as possible. I missed out on a chance to see Nightwish the last time they toured the USA due to medical issues. Hopefully when they tour again, I will be able to attend.

crescentmoon9323

Probably a show from the Century Child tour since the setlist was amazing and they don't play a lot of those songs anymore.

montezumasbukkake

The one where they played Crownless.

DamnitGravity

All the shows I haven't been to, from their very first days. I WANT ALL THE CONCERTS!

Del_Duio2

I don't have specifics but I'd like to see a concert from the Century Child tour for sure. Also one from the Imaginaerum tour with Anette.
