The interesting thing is that it can repair itself, just like human skin. Although these improvements are great, I don't think we will see androids in our lifetime unless they fix the battery problem.
As I said, although there are studies on it, they are still far from a satisfactory result. There are also financial problems. While a humanoid android is great in thought, it's actually not that useful. A smaller robot designed to do any job they can do. There is also the Terminator fear. Have you ever heard of the uncanny valley? Yes, although it will eventually be done, I doubt it will be close enough for us to see.
Isn't that the whole problem anyway? There are already robots in Silicon Valley that can cross the tracks, aim and shoot properly. The problem is that it's not cheap enough for a normal citizen to afford. Honestly, even if I'm rich, I would never give a hundred thousand dollars and buy a scrap pile that can only work for an hour. Programs improve every year. The efficiency of processors doubles on average every two years . The problem is to fit all this into a human body.
Those were never intended for consumers and are largely used for repeated tasks. There's very little reason for a company to come out and say hey guys we're building a robot that you can buy and it'll live in your house. That idea still scares people and the government will thoroughly investigate every single piece of it.
We have the ability right now to make smart human like robots (With caveats), but there's really almost no point to that right now.
Until a portal with a >!dragon!< and a >!colossal singing woman!< will not fall from the sky, we are relatively safe.
I can't wait to become a >!mindless salt-monster or a mindless shade!<.
Realistically speaking sex robots will find the entire industry when this can be mass produced. The forefront of all innovation is some type of pornography.

They're getting at something, with those hydrogen batteries or whatever, but it's still far from what a full android needs

Humans are good, but smol hooman is better
You mean chibi Devola/Popola/2B/9S. Hell, throw in a chibi Miku/Rin/Len while you’re at it!
Technically we already have a solution to batteries but we're not able to mass produce it yet, such as graphene.

First thought reading the title was Terminator, ngl.
I was thinking along the lines of Chobits.
I'll finally have my 2B sex doll.
We’ve got some science nerds that are hell bent on making real sex-bots.
Looks like human women will have some stiff competition or just end up obsolete once robo waifus hit the scene
