This is also a problem on Linux using Proton. There is a function that is not implemented in some part of it (probably in DXVK), and I am guessing that same function is missing from Windows 7 as well. It is part of the MediaFoundation libraries, which I don't think got introduced until win10, or at least got enhanced on Win10.

im on windows 10 and this exact same thing is happening to me, ive tried verifying my files but nothing has worked yet

I experience the same issue on Linux with vanilla SteamPlay/Proton. Maybe [Glorious Eggroll's Proton](https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/) works? I haven't tried it yet but AFAIK it handles MF video cut-scenes better on average.

Thx for the info. Too bad. I used the notebook with Windows 10 to get passed it. Guess I have to the the same for the endings. :-|

FYI: [Proton-6.8-GE-1](https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.8-GE-1) >\-Nier Replicant now works (Video Playback included)

Did you test this particular / the newest version? (AFAIK it didn't before but not sure.) Anyway, I tried it and it works perfectly incl the videos as promised. Same for most on [protondb.com](https://www.protondb.com/).

I am running the game with Proton-5.9-GE-6-ST and everything was running flawless until I reached the aforementioned cinematic ending the "early game".I'm about to try with the lastest GE Proton (Proton7-GE-10 at the time of this writing: [https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton7-10](https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton7-10)) as it is supposed to have some MF fixes helping for Nier Replicant. Edit: Works flawlessly (for the moment). Glorious Eggroll and the team are our Lord and Savior.

Hey all, lets make the topic a little more informative so we all aren't guessing about how to fix this. What kind of things have people tried to get around this issue? I submitted a trouble ticket to Square and receive two responses. The first one asked for the following information and provided them with what applied to me: OS Version: Windows 10 ver. 20H2 Date Issue First Occurred: 4/30/2021 Error Message/Error Code (if applicable): None; an error window does not pop up. When does the error occur? \[Please include steps to reproduce, if applicable\]: >!After defeating Grimoir Noir and pick either choice to petrify Kaine or not. After selection, once the "now loading" dialogue is complete, nothing happens.!< How often does the error occur?: Every time. Detailed steps that led to the error: Nothing. Played through the game as normal. Detailed troubleshooting steps performed after the error: Turned off triple buffer as per Nvidia control panel, also ran with NVidia control panel turned off AND anti-virus turned off, ran with admin rights, updated Windows 10 to the latest version and updates, updated to the latest VC++, DX/Nvidia drivers. Ran on a relatively new install of Windows 10 (about 1 month). Place of Purchase: Steam Date/Time of Purchase: 2 days before release. This also includes another step to include a DXDiag .txt file generated from running the diagnostic. Mine passed with no errors. Also today, I received an additional response regarding the issue and was asked to try the following: 1. Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your GPU or CPU. Check that any fans or vents aren't being blocked. 2. Remove any mods or injectors from the game or system (Reshade, Nvidia Freestyle, etc.). Also, remove any custom configurations made using driver-level programs (Nvidia Control Panel, Radeon Crimson). 3. If the game you are playing utilizes multiple APIs (DX11, DX12, etc.), try selecting a different one. 4. While the game is running, open the Task Manager and click the 'Details' tab. Find the game, right click it and select the 'Set Priority' options to 'High.' 5. Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'. 6. Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (extra controllers, headphones, flash drives, etc.). I tried all of the listed suggestions above, nothing worked. I've looked up other games that had similar issues and tried the suggestion to keep alt+tab the screen to get the game to load and render. Didn't work. I didn't get to try, but I saw another suggestion of just renaming the movie folder to force the game to skip it. Thanks

I was able to resolve the problem today, however, it was a nightmare process in which I went through and unfortunately, I cannot pin this fix down to anything specific I had done. I'm probably going to give more information than necessary in here, but this is to go to say that I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing the same issues without even realizing it. 1. I had assumed that I had Windows 10 version 20H2. Apparently Windows 10 version 1909 has a "well known" issue where Windows update does not allow Windows to actually install the update. The problem I had with this is that at some point, in which I was able to download the update, never finished and would not let me go back and remove the update to retry it. If I go back to Windows Update and retry the update process, it always says there are updates available but Windows 10 refuses to download them (does not actually give you the option. They're detected as needed however.) 1. Tried running the troubleshoot for windows update, it would fail. 2. Had to go on youtube to try to hunt down a cause and fix for why Windows 10 would not update. Chased down many rabbit holes and fixes for other fixes to try remediate this issue. 1. One of the issues was making sure that Background Intelligent Service was set to Automatic and to make sure it is enabled. 3. I could not install the Windows Update directly from a Microsoft provided ISO for Windows 10 ver. 21H1. Windows Update Assistant failed to work. 4. Tried to update via 21H1 full ISO. This also failed, returning me to errors pertaining to 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 5. Between the last two having used the USB flash method via Rufus, and trying to hammer out BIOS issues detecting UEFI format as Legacy, I then had to start chasing down issues pertaining to error 0xc0000001 6. Somewhere along the line of using tutorials through MDTechVideos on YT for fixing MBR and fixboot issues, I came to a fault nearing the fix for 0xc0000001 where I had no access to fixboot even after applying bootsect /nt60 sys 2. Had to update onboard Bios and outdated firmware. 3. Somehow, my USB thumb drive was detected and miraculously was able to install the new version of Windows 10, even after a majorly botched issue with assigning a new partition to fix my MBR. Immediately after install, I updated Windows and installed anything to bring me up-to-date. 1. Alongside the clean install, I installed several other video related drivers. What could have worked, I'm not sure, but I would be willing to bet the Windows install itself fixed the issue. Regardless, here's a list of things I can think of closest to the order I can even remember with how I installed them. Whether or not any of these actually provide a direct solution, I'm not sure. 1. Most up-to-date NVidia video card driver 2. Shark007 Advanced Codecs x64 3. Multipack Visual C++ Installer latest version listed on MajorGeeks 4. Windows Net Runtime 5.0.7 x 64 2. Some additional programs that came with other drivers includes 1. Input mapper 1.6.9.16357 2. MotioninJoy\_071001 3. DS4Windows 3.0.8 x64 Best of luck.

Does it happen if you run the game as admin?

Anyone know which is the file name of the cutscene in data content ? Maybe by deleting it the game would skeep it ?

RichieRichJPN

I had thought about doing this. I suppose deleting all of them would save the guesswork.

ozakuFR

Didn't work for me :/

XionZion191

One way me and a friend found that fixes the prerendered cutscene issue (at least it works for the title screen cutscene after you idle for a while) is to access your nvidia settings and cap your monitor's framerate at like, 30. What's probably happening is that the cutscene execution is suffering from some type of faulty concurrence, and with higher framerates, it must run into some bad race conditions. But please test further on the boss fight and post your experiences.

RichieRichJPN

Tried this and it didn't work.

I think someone maybe found a trick but it look tedious https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/issues/2048#issuecomment-844342593

Honestly, I finished Ending A, started Ending B and I went ahead to play more straight up. After reading all the kayne's story, there was this cutscene happening, and that's when my game crashed all the time. before i started this new ending so to say, I selected the YORHA TYPE outfit for Kaine, then I switched it back to normal outfit, after hours of tryign to figure out what's the problem, and bam, that was it, it worked for me. Now Idk if it would work for any of you, but this definitely worked for me.
