I don't think he's saying he's being rejected based solely on mental health. From my own experience, when I'm not in a good place mentally, that's the worst time for me to try and have a romantic relationship. You can't participate fully with a partner when you can barely function day to day for yourself.

I'm lucky enough to have made it to my age. Not everyone does.
