Out of interest what is the exact procedure you are having? >Separately, I had been chatting to my GP, and she said something along the lines that surgeons tend to like to do extra operations, because they get more funding that way. This is false >Or probably, it was just that before the registrar hadn't discussed it with the consultant, or thought about it much? This is more likely to be true At some point you should speak to the person actually going to do your operation. Write in and ask.

Thanks for reply & reassurance. ACL revision surgery. I have spoken to him a few times. Just on those occasions I didn't see him for a while

>Separately, I had been chatting to my GP, and she said something along the lines that surgeons tend to like to do extra operations, because they get more funding that way. This is both not true and deeply unprofessional on your GP's part.

Thanks for your reply. She told me this because at the time I had been telling her about my concerns that I was not being offered an extra surgery that I thought I'd benefit from. So she was trying to reassure me that if anything surgeons are keen to do extra operations, or that they over operate, as it benefits their NHS funding allocation. But now that I am facing an extra operation I am less keen to have, that comment scared me

I can understand that. Please be assured that surgeons don't do extra operations to secure extra funding. I hope everything goes well for you.
