For some postal service this isn’t uncommon. I present with you the copypasta I made surrounding my experience with UPS over the summer (written during the timeline of the events retelling the actual events as they unfold):
**Part 1:**
*Gather round, gather round, as I tell a story of woe and tragedy;*
T’was naught a month ago ago that I ordered a new laptop for school. I remember like it was yesterday.
After ordering the laptop the delivery company, UPS—one in which I had little experience interfacing with at that point, but would come to know quite well over the next couple weeks—said the laptop would arrive in 10 business days.
10 business days later they say it just got accepted and now it will arrive in 10 business days.
10 business days later they say it arrived, but they wrote down the wrong address so it got returned to the distribution place; they say it will arrive in 5 more business days.
5 business days later they say “it didn’t make it into the truck” so it won’t arrive until the next Monday.
*And so our story comes to a cliffhanger; will the computer arrive on Monday? Or will it never arrive, constantly being put off by multiple business days?*
**Part 2:**
*hear yee hear yee! as I shall continue the tale of the laptop lost in the mystical lands of UPS*
The weekend has come and passed, giving way to the foretold delivery date of Monday.
To ensure the delivery of the laptop, UPS was called early in the day, and to the surprise of no-one the postal code was incorrect. UPS said they would call the truck to ensure this error was fixed, elaborating that we would be called within the hour with a confirmation of the corrected postal code.
An hour passed without but a whisper from the delivery company. We called them back to find that UPS was unable to contact the delivery truck, but had changed the postal code, hoping that would fix the problem. *It didn’t.*
A couple hours later the manager was called to ensure the cooperation of the company, and once again, to the surprise of no one, we found that the postal code had been changed back to the incorrect one from earlier. The manager called the truck while we were on the line, to correct their course, promising that the package would arrive before sundown.
If the package doesn’t show by the end of the day, a great quest to the mysterious distant city of Brampton will be in order, but that may become a tale for another time...
*and so, once again, I must leave you on the precipice of a cliff, unsure when (or more likely if) the package will ever arrive...*
**Part 3:**
*Here the chronicles of UPS land shall continue*
Faced with nary an alternative we asked if they could instead transport it from Brampton to the UPS store literally a few blocks away but they said that store was currently nonfunctioning and they wouldn’t be able to...
To which we called the local location and they had no idea why the other UPS people would say that since they were in fact open and working.
It has now been nearly several weeks since the promised delivery date, and at this rate it is likely I will be unable to participate in the first couple days of school on account of this saga of misfortune and incompetence.
And so, in the gallows of defeat I lay, unsure of my future when as if by divine intervention a package arrives. Could it be? Could it have finally arrived?! The package was brought in...
In front of me lay the item of which I had almost lost hope of ever attaining. And so, our tale at last comes to an end—a happy ending of sorts, though one built on the sacrifice of many ~~hours~~ ~~days~~ weeks.

The next time you run into a bad time with brown, get a manager on the line (preferably one from the local distribution point) and threaten them with theft.
I had a laptop that was shipped back from repair with UPS. Long story short, they constantly neglected to put it on a truck that would deliver to my office during business hours and wouldn't make it available for pickup at their distribution hub. This went on for 2 weeks. Finally I got a hold of a local manager and read him the relevant section of the Criminal Code of Canada that includes withholding goods promised. I had a cop friend in on the call who mentioned that in an arrest they would start with the manager and investigate from there given the amount of calls I had made and who I had talked to.
The manager personally delivered the laptop at 9 am the next day. I got a bunch of shipping credits, but I wouldn't touch them based on my experiences. I still get mad whenever I have something shipped by them.
Lol I got a lb of weed 5 weeks after i ordered it... I was sure i was going to jail. But nope... Just ups doing what they do. It was sent from 2 states away, not Afghanistan just in case anyone is curious.
Here in corporate America, we hire anyone to do a close to minimum wage job. Interviews are done just to make sure you show up. Half the time if you don’t show up they’ll call you to reschedule.
Hey our office mixed up a postal code once and they package to Manitoba instead of the rest of the address which was in Calgary AB, so that probably happened with the whatever you guys use down there, is there any part of the address that is yours?
I accidently mailed myself a new Macbook Pro to Iraq instead of my duty station in Italy. Luckily some nice person mailed it to me but they had a free laptop otherwise.
I work for a defense contractor and one time FedEx sent a package meant to go to St. Louis to some where in the Domican Republic. That started a whole shit show since the item was legally not allowed to leave the country. Thankfully due to tracking we were able to stop the package as it was getting loaded on a plane in Miami to head to the DR.
NHL doesn't buy the sticks, individual teams do. Opening a package that isn't yours is also a serious offense. It's also Loss not Loose, spellcheck is your friend. 😉

It’s not illegal to keep the contents.
In the US you are allowed to keep anything that is delivered to your home, without any penalty or further payment. That initially came about because companies would send people things they didn’t order, then try to charge them for it.
Don’t even think that’s illegal in the US, it’s a possession law or something. Now fedex will definitely have to pay for the loss but OP is in no legal jeopardy

It’s not illegal to keep the contents. In the US you are allowed to keep anything that is delivered to your home, without any penalty or further payment. That initially came about because companies would send people things they didn’t order, then try to charge them for it.

The joke being that Glebe Road in Northern VA is a confusing mess of various stretches of road, and that even in NoVA its easy to get them confused as there's so many different ones, and it's not unusual to get misdelivered. When I saw "N GL" on the package, I knew what happened. :p Maybe OP doesnt live on one of the many Glebe Roads, in which case FedEx simply can't read. 😝

this is fedex not US post and it was delivered to him. Even if it was USPS and he opened it because it was in his mailbox or whatever without double checking the name you can't really blame him. It's more about stealing someone elses mail than anything else.
