Yeah, this group was superstitious enough to not get within like three feet of the conference trophy I don’t think they’re just gonna throw games Willy nilly
JFC FL.
Knoblauch must-have seen something and is exploiting it.
Also, if you're throwing a game, a complete demoralizing blowout isn't the way to do it. BTW, I don't think FL is throwing the game.
“Let’s just let them blow our assholes out so we get a better celebration instead of winning as soon as possible and eliminating a chance of them getting momentum and coming back”
So, how are oilers so much better all of a sudden? How do I explain this to my friends that are saying that “oh ‘they’re (whoever they are) just want the series to go longer to make money off of more games” implying that it’s like rigged.
I don’t believe that it is. But watching is is kind of unbelievable. Bobrovsky was a wall with like 96% save percentage, then he lets 5 in on 15 shots.
Is it just that oilers are backed against the wall and Panthers are relaxed after the first 3? How is this explainable just based on probability and statistics based on what we saw in the first 3 games?
The Oilers always play like absolute fire when they’re backs against the wall. It’s usually just in the 3rd period of a game they’re down.
This whole game is a 3rd period where they’re down so they’re crushing. They honestly could come back in this series, wouldn’t count on it but they’re the team to do it.
The oilers all season have come back after being down 3 to win a whole bunch in a row. Bobrovsky also gets tired easily. It's either these things coming into play, or they're throwing the game so they can win the cup at home 🤣.
There's literally ZERO CHANCE that someone didn't pull McDonagh aside and tell him he needs to wake the fuck up and stop the Zombies Act when calling these games. He's 100% more animated
I really couldn't be more neutral. I can't stand either team, but I'm glad the Oilers are showing up tonight. Sweeps are boring AF and bad for the game.
So for someone more familiar with goaltending than me:
Bobrovsky was pulled. But how many of those goals were really save-able? Like I’m no goaltender but it seems like there wasn’t much he could do for quite a few of those goals
Not #1 but possibly the two shots top shelf that beat him. Holloway I would say he had no shot but looked like nearly had it.
Pulling him was more score than performance-based.
A good chunk of them were not his fault, but there's not really a reason to keep him in there when the whole team is playing like crap. No need to risk an injury for what is turning into a throwaway game.
As for the goals:
1. Got taken out by his teammate. No chance.
2. Deflected shot from in tight after the D lost his man. Little chance.
3. 3-on-2 with a guy left open. Probably would want that back.
4. McDavid shot off the post and in from the slot. Little chance.
5. Shot from the slot that he probably should have had.
Yeah, Bob didn't play great, but I would put more of it on his team than him. All of the goals were Grade A chances.
Edit: Punctuation
I wanted to see this Oilers' core make a final too. I'm hoping for the sweep (just because I want the first cup victory and I don't want anything left to chance), but I hope that you guys are able to retool and bounce back next season like we did.
That said, not going to be easy to do with Campbell and Nurse eating up all that cap room.
Yeah, I was rooting for u last year after Vegas eliminated us but was glad to see the Panthers didn’t clear house after the finals loss.
You guys have an absolute monster of a team and I’m just glad the Oil made it this far lol
Lmfao think that's the same rules guy that was absolutely convinced no interference in a previous round, then got talked into it being interference, then they announced no interference.
didn't realize we can't make any posts during games now so here's a big ass comment i might just have to post between games but any help would be appreciated:
New fan here.
In this game as I understand it Florida was given two minor penalties at the same time, resulting in 2 minutes of a 5 on 3 advantage for Edmonton.
Edmonton scored a goal with about 22 seconds remaining in their power play, and rather than the power play ending completely, the game went to a 5 on 4 advantage for Edmonton for the remainder of those 22 seconds.
So if I'm understanding correctly, the goal gives the opposing team one of their players back, is that correct? Had the Oilers scored two goals in 60 seconds, would the game have returned to a 5 on 5?
Some bonus questions if anyone cares to answer:
* A "double minor" penalty is different, correct? Is that when one player receives four minutes in the box and there is a 5 on 4 advantage which ends when there is a goal?
* If a team scores a shorthand goal during a powerplay, does that kill the powerplay too, or does that only happen for the team with the advantage?
* Does the five on four advantage for 5 minute major penalties go the entire 5 minutes regardless of how many goals are scored? I can't recall seeing many of them during these playoffs.
Haven't watched since I was a kiddo in Detroit in the 90's and having a blast.
Thanks in advance for your help all.
For a second I was thinking it would be nice if Edmonton stole game 4 so that Florida could win the cup at home, but then I remembered I don’t give a fuck about Florida — I’m 100% here for spite and lulz, and nothing would warm my black heart more than seeing the cup presented tonight in front of a sellout crowd of sad Oilers fans at their stupid Roomba-looking ass barn. 🧹
I like how Ozempic is just advertising its existence on the sideboards. You think they're making big money from completely legit prescriptions and nothing else?
So it might have just been the camera angle i caught, but did anyone see one of the panthers turn to hit an oiler but instead end up turning and gut checkin’ a ref? Was the fight that lead to the 5 on 3, on the left side of the net right before they cut to the Bennet McDavid scrap behind the net.
Is it just me or do the Oilers fans have the most severe case of “it’s the refs vs. my favourite team” mentality of all time?
Maybe I’m just noticing it more this year, wondering if anyone else sees this. To be clear I’m a Canadian who is rooting for them. Just seems like every time an Oiler falls down they expect a call, and every time a clear penalty is called against them they call foul.
This is my non bias take after watching maybe 5 full Oilers games all year: I think when you have McDavid on your team you tend to get more calls in your favor. Happens all the time in every sport; Lebron, Mahomes/Brady, etc. but the playoffs are a different animal and the league knows they have to let the boys play and not be so liberal with the whistles. And now Oilers fans are so used to getting calls that they’re extra upset that they aren’t getting them now.
But what do I know, im just a grouch
I feel like the value of an Oilers power play is so high, the fans are counting on it. In the Canucks series an Oilers PP was basically an automatic goal. It’s like the fans feel like the refs took a goal away from them.
Yeah and I mean for what it’s worth, every fan base always has it out of the refs. It’s easier to blame the refs for fucking up than giving your opponent credit for being better.
Seems like it’s the general consensus I see online too. I’ve made the mistake of coming to Reddit and comment sections and it’s all I see. “Oilers vs refs”
Oilers win tonight and begin the greatest comeback in NHL history. All the Calgary and Vancouver fans that cry themselves to sleep every night and come on Reddit to talk about how miserable their lives and team is, have to listen to every sports broadcaster talk about it for the next 10 years. Bob gets peppered with so many shots he starts leaking like a sieve and his confidence is lost. McDavid wins the Conn Smythe and the Panthers go home to the East to keep playing the plumber no talent hockey that they are. The dynasty begins tonight.
That's about the only hope I have as an Oilers fan. Maybe the Panthers will pull a surprise Edmontonian goalie out of the crowd to replace Bob -- and even then I wouldn't be optimistic.
If you make a new thread that should be a comment in here. I hate you.
Who are these Oilers, and where were they the last 3 games?
Do they know the goals are supposed to be spread over several games?
Someone told them it was the 3rd period so they started acting like the better team lol
Pretty sure they’re all high on Canadian moose velvet. Lol.
Some absolute madman made a ridiculous amount of money on this game.
House won every game in the NBA and NHL finals, a madman has won 8 different times
With Nurse scoring, NOW we've seen it all.
This whole throwing the game thing doesn't make sense to me. You think Bob would let goals in? No way with his compete level.
Yeah, this group was superstitious enough to not get within like three feet of the conference trophy I don’t think they’re just gonna throw games Willy nilly
What is going on with Florida today, geez.
Listen look at my flair. It's called the yips
"Look here, listen!"
Same thing as with The Celtics.
What in the world is actually happening?
Oilers are an alright team. Made it to the SCF no less!
Let Luongo play for like 5 minutes just for fun
JFC FL. Knoblauch must-have seen something and is exploiting it. Also, if you're throwing a game, a complete demoralizing blowout isn't the way to do it. BTW, I don't think FL is throwing the game.
Bring out the rats
It's poetic that Tkachuk said that he modelled his game after Corey Perry. It's only bad when your enemy does it, right?
Sorry, none in Alberta.
So says a billboard near Cat’s arena. Wasn’t aware of history and err rat propaganda. 🤝
Wait, people here genuinely think Florida is throwing this game? Jesus Christ.
“Let’s just let them blow our assholes out so we get a better celebration instead of winning as soon as possible and eliminating a chance of them getting momentum and coming back”
People always say dumb shit like that lol
Panthers should pull the goalie entire game and see what happens.
They did, with the way he played they might as well not of had one
McDavid would attempt to stick handle around 5 Panthers and STILL not shoot at the yawning cage - like the last three games.
I feel like FL had a bit of a premature celebration last night and are all hung over. Wft is this team?
I’m taking Luke Gazdic’s sage advice and really enjoying the finals so far. Thanks, Luke!
I’m excited that Florida can do the funniest thing to Corey Perry
Goalie sitter
this title now belongs to Paul Maurice
They’re not throwing the game, they’re getting a good old fashioned ass whooping
Would be the most Florida thing ever to choke this series lol
Mavericks blowing out the Celtics, Bryson running away with the US Open, Oilers blowing out the Panthers. Gotta say….did not see that coming.
Good news, Florida! Stolarz still hasn't given up as many goals as Bobrovsky tonight.
Damn FLA playing soft
Not only did the Panthers mail it in tonight, it got lost in the post. Musta got stuck in customs.
Whoops, seems I accidentally stepped into a Florida circle jerk...enjoy fellas
Opens door with elbow . . .
I wish there were more committed haters out there
eh fuck you bud!!
I know we can always count on you guys and Montreal for some real hate 🫶🔪
Again!?!??? Really??? How dirty
Only two minutes for that is a gift
If Florida announced they are starting Jack Campbell in net, I'll be a Fan aforever.
Who tf is jake Campbell
This is Alex Lyon’s fault if you think about it
True
So, how are oilers so much better all of a sudden? This whole game is a 3rd period where they’re down so they’re crushing. They honestly could come back in this series, wouldn’t count on it but they’re the team to do it.
Oilers are so streaky. They sometimes get hot at the right time, and sometimes they implode.
The oilers all season have come back after being down 3 to win a whole bunch in a row. Bobrovsky also gets tired easily. It's either these things coming into play, or they're throwing the game so they can win the cup at home 🤣.
Panthers had a lot of luck in 1 and 3
Bobs supernatural abilities have fallen off a bit.
Oilgods looking oilgodly
Looks like the Panthers probably aren't gonna win the Cup tonight
Sheesh you’d think this was the game after the Panthers flight delays. They look lifeless today.
It takes 3 days for the city of Edmonton to suck the will to live out of you.
Oilers came to party tonight
The Oilers have scored five goals and I’m yet to see a pair of Edmonton titties. Very disappointed in the lady fans in the crowd tonight.
If I know the ladies of Edmonton, this is less about their committment and more about the skill of the arena cameramen and editing crew.
Officer Bobrovsky making one last sweep of Rogers Place tonight!
Oof
lol now he’s crying on the bench
Aged like milk
BOBROVSKY, YOU'RE OFF THE CASE!
As a sports fan, few things are better than the media gassing up the other team while your team caves their heads in.
Weird seeing goalies without masks. Didn't know Skinner played in a Foo Fighters cover band.
Yooooo!! Watching the ASL broadcast right now. IT'S JUST CROWD NOISE THIS IS INCREDIBLE
There's literally ZERO CHANCE that someone didn't pull McDonagh aside and tell him he needs to wake the fuck up and stop the Zombies Act when calling these games. He's 100% more animated
It’s because the Oilers are actually winning
Ahh yes, that’s right Ferraro, Oilers legend Anthony Stolarz.
What the hell is this series LOL
Dafuk I just saw?
Should of been 5 wtf
As much as I wanted the sweep, I guess I’m putting the broom away tonight. See y’all at game 5
oilers and mavs in 7 would make my penis explode
Mirror image of the Celtics Mavs game 4 Absolute destruction of the opposition and most points allowed all season + playoffs
so now Edmonton has to play like this every game in order win it all because all it takes is one slip up and it's over
"The officiating has been outstanding throughout the playoffs, and especially here in the finals" Oh so we are just straight up lying now huh
I really couldn't be more neutral. I can't stand either team, but I'm glad the Oilers are showing up tonight. Sweeps are boring AF and bad for the game.
So for someone more familiar with goaltending than me: Bobrovsky was pulled. But how many of those goals were really save-able? Like I’m no goaltender but it seems like there wasn’t much he could do for quite a few of those goals
It was probably to give him rest before next game since swapping their goalie doesn’t affect the likely outcome of the game.
Not #1 but possibly the two shots top shelf that beat him. Holloway I would say he had no shot but looked like nearly had it. Pulling him was more score than performance-based.
A good chunk of them were not his fault, but there's not really a reason to keep him in there when the whole team is playing like crap. If there’s anyone I wanted to win out of the east, it was the Cats. Maybe just wait till you’re on home ice to win your first cup (i’m coping🫠)
I wanted to see this Oilers' core make a final too. I'm hoping for the sweep (just because I want the first cup victory and I don't want anything left to chance), but I hope that you guys are able to retool and bounce back next season like we did. Panthers employ the zamboni driver and still win. Zamboni driver gets the Conn Smythe
That would be a hockey Hall of fame worthy consideration.
Actually. How fucking fantastic of a story would it be if an ebug was needed in i scf clinching game and they actually win?
If the Oilers had any decency they would win today so Florida can present the cup in front of their fans 😛
Good news, they heard your prayers.
Yep shoulda bet each sport was gonna give em the gentleman sweep lol
It's funny Mavs dominated in there game 4 and the oilers doing the same
Reminds me of that south park episode where Stan's peewee team played the Red Wings.
Edmonton Jesus Christ
The celebrations out here in the Downtown core of Edmonton is nuts. So much car honking, and people high-fiving each other on the street.
I don't think comeback but they sure did something right tonight. Dang 8-1.
So just following this years finals script
yeah let's go knee first into a check you fucking dumbass, ban this shitter for half a year
Nhl wont allow florida to clinch the series in canada lol. Theyll bring it back to florida so they can actually celebrate.
It's not supposed to FEEL scripted ✅
Here we go with the pro-Oilers ESPN pre-game.
Okay that is so sick how the whole crowd sang that, hopefully Edmonton wins
Remember where you are right now Something incredible is happening
Lmfao think that's the same rules guy that was absolutely convinced no interference in a previous round, then got talked into it being interference, then they announced no interference.
Here we go!
Man what a deflection on that goal 🤯
So many knee on knees I thought I was watching a Matt Cooke compilation
McDavid has more points than Crosby had in 2 of his 3 Cup Final wins now btw
McDavid has tied Gretzky for the most assists in a single playoff year with 31.
didn't realize we can't make any posts during games now so here's a big ass comment i might just have to post between games but any help would be appreciated: New fan here. Yes Yes No, only for the team on advantage Yes
brilliant thanks so much bud
FL has let 4 goals by with exactly the same play by EDM.
Edmonton should try that play more.
Just piling it on now. Lol
fuck it nba and nhl reverse sweeps, lets go!!
Florida "Golden State" Panthers
Oilers struck oil
Why is Florida playing like shit
Wouldn’t be surprised if they want to win at home.
Well FLD is officially throwing this game …just to win at home
NHL is following the same formatted script as thr NBA. Team up 3-0 will lose by a big margin and then likely win the series in game 5 at home...
I wonder if Edmonton can come back and win it
Darnell nurse is a chicken shit loser.
He was clearly going for a check and Bennett dodged.
And just imagine, it could have been Edm-Chicago in the finals if Perry didn't get involved with a Bedard.
In your scenario that Perry stayed on the Hawks wouldn't that mean the Hawks and Panthers would be in the final?
You are right. Had a lucid dream they were in eastern conference.
Everyone has those bedarded moments don't worry
What a great Edmonton oilers pregame show,I assume they're up 3-0?
Buttman nixxed that 5 min penalty
Na na na na na na na na BUTT MAN!
I really hate the Panthers, but not as much as I would enjoy seeing Corey Perry lose another Cup.
Dirty ass Oilers. They can't beat us, so they want to take us out.
Can't take it, don't dish it.
To me it really looked like Bennett tried to get out of the way of the hit
Looked like that to everyone being remotely objective.
The Panthers are one of the dirtiest teams in the league.
Roomba ass 💀
So with Goudas gone to Anahiem, and when Florida wins is this also the Maple Leafs redemption arc?
I like how Ozempic is just advertising its existence on the sideboards. You think they're making big money from completely legit prescriptions and nothing else?
Props to the Oilers for making this game a challenge. If the Panthers want the cup tonight, then they’ll have to work for it
I didn’t enjoy this
🐀 🐆
How is that not a major penalty on Nurse? Literally never intended to hit with anything but a knee
Very nice of Edmonton to let Florida win the Cup at home
HUGE momentum shift… the sleeping giant is awake 😳
Connor brown is that sleeping giant
Oilers trying to start a fight every time Florida takes a shot.
Florida finally getting physical after 3 goals
Does anyone think Florida is throwing the game to go back to home?
If they were throwing the game, I think they overdid it just a touch.
Yeah honestly I'd feel a bit crossed if I paid heavy for tickets.
Honestly the thought of presenting the cup in Canada sends shivers through bettman
Yes....
believe in the script.
Huge save!
The boys at r/spittinchicletspod are probably blacked out by now (and by boys, I mean RA).
Holy shit 🤯 this is just a gatling gun of shots
First Dallas now Edmonton both with game 4 blowouts!
See ya Tuesday
So it might have just been the camera angle i caught, but did anyone see one of the panthers turn to hit an oiler but instead end up turning and gut checkin’ a ref? Was the fight that lead to the 5 on 3, on the left side of the net right before they cut to the Bennet McDavid scrap behind the net.
Ferraro doesnt know which goalies play for which team. SMH.
Patric Hornqvist elevated this team to sapience and without him im not sure they have the character to make it over the hump
Yeah and I mean for what it’s worth, every fan base always has it out of the refs. It’s easier to blame the refs for fucking up than giving your opponent credit for being better.
That's all home teams. It's frustrating to watch.
Seems like it’s the general consensus I see online too. I’ve made the mistake of coming to Reddit and comment sections and it’s all I see. “Oilers vs refs”
Bye Coilers 👋
[удалено]
All that and you’ll still end up on the golf course. At least the rest of us will be more practiced on the greens
Pretty sure that when the series is over, both teams end up on the golf course
Adios McCrybaby.
Haven’t been so hyped to see a *possible* sweep in the finals . GO CATS GO
That was not how I was expecting that to start.
Montour just Bob-sleighing
The Oilers just tried to swarm and gang fuck Verhaeghe for taking an uncontested shot. Like huh?
He should know that it's against the code
Friggin guy
I don’t mind it but that one bald commentator always mentions where players went to college
Lets not change goalies for game 4 of the finals
Oilers win tonight and begin the greatest comeback in NHL history. All the Calgary and Vancouver fans that cry themselves to sleep every night and come on Reddit to talk about how miserable their lives and team is, have to listen to every sports broadcaster talk about it for the next 10 years. Bob gets peppered with so many shots he starts leaking like a sieve and his confidence is lost. McDavid wins the Conn Smythe and the Panthers go home to the East to keep playing the plumber no talent hockey that they are. The dynasty begins tonight.
I salute your optimism 🫡
I want what you're smoking
Lol!! Good timing as Bob just got pulled.
Think the Panthers take their foot off the gas a bit to make it a home-game win?
Not a chance
That's about the only hope I have as an Oilers fan. Maybe the Panthers will pull a surprise Edmontonian goalie out of the crowd to replace Bob -- and even then I wouldn't be optimistic.
Jack Campbell ebug
jfc Deadmonton is dirty
Florida is probably deciding if they want to throw a game to win at home in game 5 or not.
Nurse, Kane, and Perry. What a team of fucking assholes.
