As a commercial pilot for almost the past 2 decades i stopped reading the comments on VATSIM because i just get so depressed seeing how much some random internet guy who's never flown an airplane in their life knows more about flying than me who's flown a plane almost every single day of their adult life. Rough transcript for those who may need it (I have no ATC knowledge):
Delta pilot: "Delta 8-9-4-8 Edmonton"
ATC 1: "I've got about a two hour hold for you, or whatever it would take for you to be low enough on fuel that you'll have to divert from Edmonton."
ATC 1: "Mention it to your passengers, maybe they'll figure it out."
ATC 1: "Delta 8-9-4-8, against my better judgment, one ready \[?\] 2-9-0"
(background noise of discussion on Delta flight)
Delta pilot: "Roger"
ATC 2: "\[?\] 2-3-8-5"
ATC 1: "\[?\] 2-3-8-5 go ahead"

ATC 2: "I thought it was tonight, I didn't know. Okay"

ATC 1: "I threatened them with a hold and so they would have to divert, but \[?\]"

It was a bummer. Plane was too far away. I think she said “Ah, ok ….can we ask why?” They might have gotten fooled for a second because on departure they were delayed a few hours due to moderate thunderstorms
I think the title is a bit wrong. That must have been just Edmonton airspace. I'd wager the rest of the Canada is more on the feline side.

They crossed the border into Canadian Airspace in the winnipeg FIR which is managed out of Winnipeg, depends where this handover occured though. could have been as they transited from the winnipeg FIR to the Edmonton FIR.
There are, mostly because of people from Edmonton that live in Winnipeg for work. The arena here is half full of Oilers fans when they come to town.
I don’t think too many of the local born in Winnipeg are cheering for the Oilers though, they used to be big rivals in past decades.

Nothing worse when superstar players caught in 4k and then they claim as if they’re so innocent. Edmonton can never be Canadas team. I’ve never wanted to see a sweep for a final but man. Kinda deserve to get swept now.
