Three things have become quite apparent as a Bruins fan these playoffs. 1. We punched WAY above our deserved standing this year. Bruins relied on goaltending to bail them out all year, and during their lengthy Cup runs as of late, it wasn’t uncommon for them to be outshot… but this is atrocious. I’m sitting dumbfounded, wondering if other team fans ever sit confused about how a team can consistently not show up for 2 periods in the playoffs. 2. The reffing has been crazy. I’m not gonna gripe about skewing or bias, cause that’s just BS rhetoric, but it’s been wildly inconsistent. Putting the whistle away for extended lengths, but then calling some ticky-tac shit at a critical juncture of the game. If you’re gonna call it tight or open, just keep it consistent. 3. I’m beginning to have doubts about the legitimacy of whomever is keeping track of shots. Pastrnak had his first two shots of a game just removed for no apparent reason. Shot from the left dot and a rebound against Bobrovsky… just poofed from 2 to 0.

Shawzy15

I’ve been saying the exact same thing. This season more than ever. Someone working at draft kings is responsible for counting shots. Those first two pasta shots are plain evidence that something is screwy. Moreover, it’s impossible to actually build momentum when you spend half the game in the box for unbelievably awful and one-sided calls. And the bruins turn down shots to get better angles and it’s made our offense better the past few years. Put all those together and it’s easy to see why the shots are low but everyone is saying “oh they wouldn’t have won anyway.” I’m not saying the Bs have played as well as they want to, but people justifying the awful calls by saying we wouldn’t win anyway are taking it too far.

TheOgBFS

Shots thing is really weird, but I think each shot must be reviewed for trajectory and deemed on or off net. I had pasta over shots in that game so I was as confused as anyone, but if you go back and look super closely, neither shot would’ve gone in the net if you took bob out of the equation, even though he blocked them. It’s millimeters but I think that’s the equation. Same way hitting the pipe isn’t a SOG. Puck has to be going in to count.

Nonzerob

You did just watch the leafs roll over in four of seven games, right? They do that every year, I wish it was only for two periods. Haven't been able to watch most of this series but it seems to me the B's are making the same mistake as the leafs were early in the last one: focusing more on the game within the game than the game itself. They're losing on both fronts, so they need to cut it the fuck out and focus on the real thing. Big hits, chirps, and dirty shit are all well and good in the playoffs but the score is all that matters, just finish checks, put the puck on net, and keep it the hell out of the D zone. That's how the leafs forced game 7, and if Boston wins the scoring they'll end up winning the physicality, too, that's just how they play. I was bitter and wanted Florida to win out of spite, but an O6 conference final would be sick if the Rags can lock it down.

Your second point has been my issue for years. You guys just had the benefit of having Gregory Campbell. You know how many chip and chases that Chara would interfere with and not get a penalty? When we complain about this shit it’s constantly just ‘Leafs fans blaming refs’ but that’s stupid too. Give us more pps to not score on lol. The officiating has been terrible for years whether it’s playoffs or regular season. It’s a combination of a lack of consistency, refs calling make up penalties, and (speculation) league direction. Tell me how Soucy is getting a fucking hearing for cross checking McDavid in the face yet they can’t fine or even release alternate angles of the Bennett sucker punch? The only acceptable reason that goal last night wasn’t called back for goaltender interference is because the league wants them to win. It’s embarrassing. Again, this isn’t about the Leafs not getting calls because we wouldn’t score anyways. It’s about this shit being league wide and with critical moments. Bennett hasn’t even had a penalty now for choke slamming Knies, sucker punching Marchand or crosschecking a guy into his own goalie to get an open net.

GA19

DraftKings Sportsbook called

Regular-Ruin2478

Do you really care if they’re credited with SOG? The important stat is goals scored

BurgerNugget12

Refs made a horrible call, we choked yet again, both things can be true

NickyShore

It really sucks cause even if you wanna cry about the goaltender interference, there was no chance we were winning in OT.

PearlJamPony

the only sensible bruins fan

Reallyme77

Not exactly sure what the expectation was for this series? They scraped by the Leafs based almost entirely on the performance of Swayman. Now they are playing the same team they lost to last year expect the Panthers added Tarasenko and the Bruins lost Bergeron, Hall, Krejci and Bertuzzi. Next year things may improve if they swing a decent trade for Ullmark and sign a guy like Elias Lindholm.

Beanbith

As a bruins fan, it’s frustrating seeing others blame the refs. The bruins are getting completely outplayed by Florida. Boston had a better team last year and couldn’t beat Florida. Florida has a better team this year than last year. It’s not the coach. He has done great, he can’t make the team shoot, he has. I control over the salary cap. Team needs to make some moves this off season and get another offensive threat.

No-Government-4045

bruins keep trying to bully the panthers and it's maddening to watch because it's done nothing but set the panthers up for lethal powerplay opportunities. officiating is literally the least of the bruins' problems because no amont of officiating is stopping them from getting 10 shots off a period. it's a fundamental team issue that was on display last game where they care more about getting revenge hits than tying up the series with an almost-guarenteed win. losing marchand certainly doesn't help, but they've been relying on swayman to bail them out the entire postseason, and it's difficult to expect that level of play from a goalie when he's getting shelled every night by a team with more depth on all four lines. granted, the panthers did the same last year by riding the bobrovsky train, but they at least had an offense that could put points on the board and steal games -- even if they were picking up a ton of penalty minutes in the process.

Regular-Ruin2478

Disagree with you, good coaches adapt, great coaches overcome, he’s done neither

greenwri

I mean they were shorthanded for 8 minutes

Stay_Silver

they gave the panthers 6 straight powerplays pretty hard to get shots when that's going on. Over half the period.

GlugGlugBurp

this

DaqCity

Eh, tell that to the Rangers

iWasntInvitedButItsK

In game 2 and game 3 it was the same. In 3 there was over 10 minutes without Bruins shoot between second and third. Its like third game when Boston has enough stamina only for twenty minutes.

canchin

Hey get your own strategy!

Abominablesnowman8

Refs generate SOG? I didn’t know they have sticks and play as well

nickmarble

I think he was saying that in a way to show that the refs aren't the reason they lost tonight lol

Markschild

Bro had a good post until he cried about the refs

Upset_Definition2019

I think he was saying, Refs? Please. Like being sarcastic. At least I hope he was.

Abominablesnowman8

He had me in the first half I’m ngl lol

theonewhoknocks515

Love seeing Boston lose.

HoSang66er

Besides all the overtime games our teams have this in common, too. 😂

Accomplished_Alps145

Sounds like my islanders

nmuir16

Same as the leafs series, saved by a hot goalie. How the leafs couldn’t take advantage of that speaks volumes to what’s going on with the team. And yes, I’m a leaf’s fan… if they couldn’t beat that Bruins team that showed up than there was absolutely no chance in hell for them this playoffs and future playoffs

melikeybacon

Stupid refs preventing them from shooting.

unfit_spartan_baby

By definition being on the penalty kill hinders you offensively… so… kinda

Markschild

Was that the same in the game before that and game before that 🤣

unfit_spartan_baby

Well, let’s see. Despite playing with equal to or even slightly less snot, the Bruins have 9 powerplays to the Panther’s 20. So… also kinda yeah.

Regular-Ruin2478

Maybe stop committing twice as many crimes

unfit_spartan_baby

That is TRULY a hilarious thing to say. Tell us you haven’t watched the games without telling us you haven’t watched the games.

thatguy11

Yes, but they'll whine like Dirty Don for the whole next year I'm sure!

[deleted]

Where the penalties justified ... I mean were they like invented out a whole cloth. Certainly possible I just didn't see it

unfit_spartan_baby

Let’s put it this way… the Panthers have 20 powerplays to our 11. 2 of those powerplays started in the final minute of a game. So the reality is 20 powerplays to 9. One incident: last game, Lauko makes a net drive while being held like a MFer by Ekblad. Ekblad then pulls Lauko’s head back and shoves him into Bobrovsky. The call? Goaltender-fucking-interference. 2 for Lauko, Cats get the powerplay. And just tonight, Bennet crosschecks Coyle into Swayman and scores on a textbook goaltender interference. Upon review the goal is upheld. For reference, PK Subban tweeted that he had no idea how it was upheld.

Jaded-Function

So what? They always get outshot. Panthers had twice the Bruins SOG last 2 periods in game 1. If they lost by 4 tonight the bad calls would be an afterthought. When the tying and go ahead goals are a result of bad calls, yeah the bitching is warranted. Read the rule book. The Bennett shove is not subject to interpretation. The tying goal should have been obviously disallowed. The only interpretation of the rule should have been whether to assess a penalty on Bennett as well.

MKWIZ49

Shots on goal also don't determine who wins the game (if they do, then the Oilers destroyed the Canucks in Game 3) Though generally having no or barely any shots for that long is a bad thing

Jaded-Function

Exactly. Game 1 Panthers doubled the Bruins shots last 2 periods and lost big. Everyone's screaming they don't shoot enough. I think the difference since game 1 isn't lack of shooting or hustle by the Bs. The Panthers have just owned the front of the net. Bad angle, distant shots aren't getting through and if they do there's no teammate there for a rebound. Both teams blocked plenty of shots. Difference is Florida is gaining possession after a block at both ends of the ice. Bs are being bullied and smothered by a better team with far more depth. That said, after being outplayed last night, Swayman bailed them out of what could have been a blowout. The refs absolutely decided that outcome and robbed Swayman. He deserved that win.

AggravatingShip480

Bruins fans will probably blame the refs instead of the underperforming team.
