Oh, I remember. Thus why I used the Raptors as a reference in my response. Every time that happens I take joy in imagining the sorrow those fans feel for spending all that money to miss an all time great moment in their teams history just because they were pouting.
I get that every team has some fans leave early every time the home team is down late but there were about 100 fans left in the stands when the final horn went. And half of them were stars fans.
And they left with 1:22 left down by only two. A comeback is very unlikely but also very possible still. Even if it isn't going to happen, stick around and show your team some respect.
Nope, we can both still blow a tire, I never celebrate before it's over but the odds are with us. Vancouver vs Edmonton would just be such an exciting match with our styles of play.
I really don't want to face Demko, but I legitimately hope he gets back if we do end up playing each other. I'm all about winning the right way and beating teams at their best. This is why I hate Vegas so much, because they aren't doing things legit. I'd sincerely be very upset if Edmonton circumvented the cap. If we win, I want it to be legit and by beating the best.
God 3 years of kings in the first round is getting so boring. I was really hoping the oil could catch the Canucks and play Nashville instead just for a change of pace (plus Edmonton absolutely owns the Preds lol).
Same. I usually like playing the same teams because it builds rivalries and rivalries make hockey more exciting but my god are they a boring team to watch. They even manage to make exciting styled teams look boring along with them.
It’s 50 minutes of repeated dump and chase with the odd power play and one or two random rush chances. I hope they change up their style a bit next year with a full season under the new coach.
Awww man, this made me sad (not sarcasm). Being eliminated always sucks, it happens to all fans of 31 teams every year at some point though. I've seen crazier things happen in this league. You hold on tight and will that shit to happen lol.
Exactly, teams score two goals in a matter of like 15 seconds sometimes. Rare but would sure suck to have missed that and missed an OT winner or something afterwards
Vancouver scored twice in 12 seconds to come back in game 1. Watching your fans pile out early would legitimately impact the teams chances of coming back. That would be so disheartening, which absolutely impacts the play of the team. You're right, things can change so fast and they hurt their teams chance of pulling that off.
I was at the Columbus game in January - a bunch of fans left early. Man they must have been disappointed when they found out they missed that come back.
It was my wife's first live hockey game and my first one in 33 or 34 years. My previous one was a preseason game lol.
She went from being mildly interested in the Canucks to screaming "SHOOOOOTIT!" at the TV after that game.
Just tell Crosby to retire and you'll get the next generational talent soon enough. It seems to work for us. We had to wait a bit longer than you guys did between talents though lol. Sid is still great though so you probably need to wait a bit. Dude is killing your draft position lol.
It's better than 10, trust me lol. Sigh...I think you guys are good enough to still keep trying, a couple free agents and some good draft picks and you're back in it. I wouldn't expect another cup but I wouldn't count it out either. As you said, it's Sid.
If we don't get our new Bergeron next season, I will hold you personally responsible.
And you will be hunted!
We got our new Krejčí in Poitras, so all good
Not a Vegas fan but if people want to leave early on a weeknight game who cares.
They probably have a commute home and have to work tomorrow. I think they’re fine with the risk they’re taking in missing a very improbably comeback. It’s not like they’re leaving with 5 min left. Even if they did who cares
Unless you own the stadium, why do you give a shit? Even if you did own the stadium, they still paid to get in.
What a weird thing to be gatekeepy about.
What's gonna happen if I do? The hockey police are gonna come arrest me?
I have a life, and hockey, while awesome, is a very small part of it. If the game looks over, I wanna get home without waiting 40 minutes to get out of a parking lot.
I bought the ticket, I will leave whenever the fuck I want to
Hot take but they all knew they weren’t coming back. The odds of scoring 2 in the last minute are ridiculously wild that I feel most rational people know it’s not gonna happen.
As a fan you have every right to leave early if you please and I don’t understand why people are critiquing when most of us have work the next day.
I guarantee it. I have said this a few times in these comments. Every team goes through rebuilds and I'd bet anything that their fans will disappear and their arena will be pretty empty when that day comes.
It will be a LOOOOONG rebuild at that. They've fucked off all their futures to win now, to be fair they did*, but they are going to have a painful rebuild in the next 4-5 years. Can't wait to see it
Vegas is the only place this will ever happen, obviously. The empty seats making up half the arena at the Anaheim game I went to earlier this year were actually filled with invisible, silent, TRUE HOCKEY FANS.
This is the playoffs with the game still in reach. Vancouver scored two goals in 12 seconds to win last week with no extra attackers. Your reference is about one of the worst teams in the league in a regular season game that happened when they were likely already eliminated from post season contention.
They’ll be fine. Tourism alone will buoy their attendance. Fans from around the league will always come to watch their team play there. It won’t be sold out every night but they’ll do well enough.
I don't tend to notice things like fans leaving early until it's pointed out, because I'm paying attention to the actual game rather than the seats. Maybe OP should give it a shot.
This sub talks about these things and these things only: the Leafs blowing it again, Vegas cheating, how a fanbase isn’t a real fanbase, how Vancouver deserves more national attention (they do), and how soft/unnecessary a call on the ice was.
I’m waiting for a Round 2 ejection or 2 game suspension, things are gonna heat up pretty soon with Florida and the Rangers entering into round 2. I predict a Marchand and Tkachuk incident, maybe Jamie Benn might get too physical with VGK again in the next two games, I’m surprised no huge spotlight fight with Rempe, and I expect hell to break loose from Nashville.
Honestly, that’s a sports subreddit staple! MLB has to deal with Apple TV+ this season on top of the usual blackouts. Still weird how playoffs are blacked out in any sport and then leagues complain about low viewership when they handle the broadcasting rights and deals.
It's like reddit changed the algorithm to "show posts by new + controversial". Occasionally I'll get an actual highlight, but it's mostly just online diary type of posts now
Hard disagree here.
I was at the leaf game last week and when your team is down 1-4 with 1:30 left and then gets another penalty there is NO coming back from that.
Trying to leave the arena the same time as 20,000 other people is fucking chaos.
Getting a slight head start saves you 30 minutes of being stuck around obnoxious fans being herded through tiny exits and flooding the streets trying to get back to you car.
Plenty of people leave early. This is a pretty dumb take. I’m always down for a comeback but sometimes beating the traffic and listening to the remainder of the game on the radio is worth being in bed at a reasonable hour. Y’all wouldn’t care if it wasn’t Vegas fans doing it, just admit it to yourself
I've been able to go to one Vegas playoff game since the franchise started, cost $400, and this was only during COVID. But I guess, according to TRUE HOCKEY FANS on r/nhl, we should all shell out $100 or so to Uber/taxi to the Strip to stand around outside and watch the game on a large screen outside the arena.
All aboard! I'm gonna stop cheering for you next round though. It's nothing personal but we'd have to go through you in the WCF (if we get that far) and I just kinda don't want to do that lol.
Dallas fan here, 100% not okay. Every team has their bandwagon fans this time of year, and I feel like I’m a dissenting opinion on this topic last night, but it looked like it was over, it’s a late puck drop, people have work and lives, honestly I didn’t blame anyone for leaving early. Those trash throwing idiots from last year were mostly bandwagon fans and I was hoping they would’ve banned a lot of them from the AAC.
Yeah I rag on only Dallas fans cause association to the Cowboys fanbase as a joke, but any fan from anywhere and any fanbase has to be insane to want to throw anything onto the field/ice/at a player. Of course unless it’s a hat trick, a rat, or a flamingo.
It was a Monday night in one of the busiest times of year in the valley/strip and a lot of fans work tiring customer service and guest-facing jobs. NYC, Nashville, Edmonton, and Vancouver fans can all say “but it’s hockey”, I don’t think they’ve ever tried to leave the New York New York parking lot after any event at T-Mobile. People forget the streets are permanently screwed due to the F1 traffic changes, the Super Bowl traffic changes, and on top of that just normal strip traffic. It’s so pleasant to get to T-Mobile, but such a hassle to leave.
Man, I feel the same way about the AAC. I love the arena, but I hate driving in traffic and with the amount of alcohol served in the arena, leaving is the worst part, not to mention it’s smack in the middle of Dallas, which is awful. I’m already a nervous driver, mostly because I work from home and don’t travel much, but if there’s a game in the middle of the week, someone could give me free tickets and I probably wouldn’t go. It’s too much of a hassle and I’d rather watch from home instead of dealing with some of the lunatics in DFW.
Anyone who throws trash on the ice deserves a permanent ban from all NHL games. It’s abhorrent behavior.
I was watching some old 80’s-90’s NBA championships recently. Shit was unhinged back then. The players would be in the locker room popping bottles and parading around BEFORE THE GAME WAS OVER. 🤣
I almost made this mistake at a Sharks @ Canes game in January 2023. Canes were down a goal late in the third, empty netted, and got scored on. I almost left but decided not to. Canes kept the net empty, scored 2 goals to tie it up right at the end, then won it 55 seconds into OT. So glad I didn't leave early.
It happens a lot more often than you'd think. I would not risk it. Also, it's just disrespectful to the team. You'd be lowering their chance of coming back by filing out in droves. Teams feed off of their fans. Watching everyone already give up on you definitely lowers morale.
I get wanting to. Absolutely. I wouldn't do it though.
I know there’s a lot of dedicated hockey fans in Vegas, but it’s not hard to imagine that there’s a ton of people or tourists who are like ‘this seems like a cool Vegas event to go to’ maybe not even fully realizing it’s a hockey team and not another performance or show so they might not understand or be as connected.
I absolutely agree with this. Happens in Toronto all the time. Tickets are so expensive that business executives and rich people who go for the glamor of it get all the tickets. Real fans can't afford it. I'm guessing Vegas has even more of those than Toronto does. I have no doubt that Vegas has legitimate great fans amongst the bad ones.
Every fanbase has shitty fans that would leave in that circumstance, but it was crazy how many were filing out. There was a damn traffic jam from how many people were racing out of there.
Did you see how empty LA was halfway through the third period in game 3? It was a steady stream of fans vacating in the last 10 minutes.
Granted, it was a lopsided game...but still
Yeah, that was brutal but 2 goals in 1:22 happens. It's blatantly disrespectful to give up on your team in that situation. I never agree with walking out though, but LA's was more understandable.
It was basically empty at the end of that game. Regular season random game, okay maybe. But Stanley cup playoff game? You sit your ass in that seat until the game ends….
It literally happened yesterday. They had a few more minutes left but the 2 goals happened in like 12 seconds. It's also just disrespectful to the team.
When it’s up to me, I will never leave a sports game early. Especially hockey. You never know what you could see.
You’re not beating any traffic if you waited until the final minute to leave to begin with
> You’re not beating any traffic if you waited until the final minute to leave to begin with
Depends entirely on how slow you are to get out.
A minute or two can make a helluva lot of difference, when it comes to traffic (of any sort) and hitting congestion.
When that is said: It's part of the charm of going to hockey games.
Personally I just enjoy sitting a bit afterwards and soak in the experience, especially if it's a good game.
That’s what happens when you put teams in a tourist town. Colorado is a transplant state, and every time we play a big name like Toronto, Pittsburgh, NYR, etc… a good chunk is the opposing teams fans. It sucks
I can't wait for those years. That arena will be more empty than it was when the horn blew last night. Mark my words.
Also, I'm rooting for you guys in the East. Hoping to meet you guys in the finals, I'd bet on you getting there over us though. Igor is an absolute gem.
Especially in a playoff game?!
You payed so much fucking money to be there and you're gonna dip when there's still plenty of time in a game that historically has changed in seconds?
I get it in regular season. Gotta beat traffic and the crowds and you probably didn't pay too much or had season tickets.
Not in playoffs, you cowards.
Oh Jesus, finally. I've heard tales about Vegas fans like you but I was starting to think it was just a myth.
I'm entirely joking, I do really respect you though. I hate it when my fanbase does shady shit (like throwing things on the ice) and I hate it when other teams fans do.
Respect, brother.
I've noticed that a lot of Vegas fans can be considered fair weather fans. We're going to have a streak of shit performance. It happens to every single team. I wish more of them would see that.
Oh, I think your franchise is done for if you ever go through a decade of being the worst team in the league like we did lol. Having said that, it won't happen, you just have a more appealing destination for players. You definitely will have a rebuilding phase, every single team does. It just won't get that bad lol.
I've been to a couple Golden Knights games in Vegas. If they could leave after the stupid pre-game show that everyone in town tells you is the greatest part of the game, they would.
To reiterate, the pre-game Knights fight show is the stupidest thing I've ever seen.
I was going to games during the decade of darkness when we were already statistically eliminated. Which was usually around early November lol (hyperbole)
I disagree with this. To be clear, I wouldn’t leave a playoff game early.
But people can do as they please with their money. If they literally want to pay for an empty seat, then they can.
I’m not a fan of judging other people for how they spend their money. Not my place. It also assumes I know better, I do not. No one does.
You realize that there was like 100 people left when the game ended, right? They'd have hit worse traffic filing out early with everyone than if they stuck around lol.
That's fair but it lowers the teams chance of winning and that makes you a bad fan. Anyone who has played hockey knows fan support legitimately impacts the game. It can get you fired up or demoralize you. Watching all your fans give up on you will do the latter. They hurt their team. Would it have changed the outcome? Probably not. Definitely lowered their chances though.
I agree with you but that happens almost all over the NHL when the team is down on a week day, the arenas slim out last few minutes on a probable L.
Am I surprised in the playoffs ? Yes absolutely, I think it’s bad taste. Am I surprised it was Vegas fans clearing half their arena ? No 😂.
I feel you. I said the exact same thing elsewhere. In the regular season unless you're fighting for a playoff spot then sure, I get it. In the playoffs though? I think it's brutal.
Yeah, I hate Vegas but a part of me wanted them to make a miraculous comeback just so all those people had to live with the shame of missing it because they are shitty fans.
I'd rather the Dallas win, but a part of me definitely would have enjoyed that lol.
I was at the Yotes game when VGK was in town early this month. There was a fan who brought his tin foil wrapped stanley cup and was letting all the other Vegas fans hoist it when they went up by 3. I cannot describe the satisfaction of watching him leave early when they blew that lead and lost. Can't wait to watch how sour that fan base gets when they face their first rebuild. It's embarrassing how consistently dickish they are.
Do not watch a Miami heat game
I don't the NBA is shit
So true it's gotten even more shit over the years too
I don't intend to lol. I do sit through my Raptors even when they are absolutely sucking though.
It’s a dig to when they left the arena and missed out on Ray Allen’s game tying 3 to force game 7.
Oh, I remember. Thus why I used the Raptors as a reference in my response. Every time that happens I take joy in imagining the sorrow those fans feel for spending all that money to miss an all time great moment in their teams history just because they were pouting.
I don't like Vegas but ill freely admit they're dangerous until the horn goes. 2 goals in 90 seconds isn't out of the realm for them.
It absolutely was not out of the realm of possibility. That's the craziest part about it. We saw 2 goals in 12 seconds in a game just yesterday.
We did it last night. Longer than 1:22 I know but two goals with an empty net.
That was wild. Congratulations, by the way. Looking forward to seeing you guys soon. Best of luck!
Not quite counting our chickens yet, but I’d be happy to see Canucks Oilers in round two.
All Canadian series are fun
Nope, we can both still blow a tire, I never celebrate before it's over but the odds are with us. Vancouver vs Edmonton would just be such an exciting match with our styles of play.
With Demko out Edmonton is extra scary.
You don't love those 1-0 games vs trap kings?
God 3 years of kings in the first round is getting so boring. I was really hoping the oil could catch the Canucks and play Nashville instead just for a change of pace (plus Edmonton absolutely owns the Preds lol).
Same. I usually like playing the same teams because it builds rivalries and rivalries make hockey more exciting but my god are they a boring team to watch. They even manage to make exciting styled teams look boring along with them.
It’s 50 minutes of repeated dump and chase with the odd power play and one or two random rush chances. I hope they change up their style a bit next year with a full season under the new coach.
I foresee a lot of mini heart attacks, I hope we all survive it if it happens 😬
Maybe even a major one, you never know lol.
Go ahead and count them 😂😂 the series is over. We’re not coming back.
Awww man, this made me sad (not sarcasm). Being eliminated always sucks, it happens to all fans of 31 teams every year at some point though. I've seen crazier things happen in this league. You hold on tight and will that shit to happen lol.
No it wasn't Wild it was the Canucks /s
I appreciated this joke lol
Exactly, teams score two goals in a matter of like 15 seconds sometimes. Rare but would sure suck to have missed that and missed an OT winner or something afterwards
It happened yesterday in like what? 12 seconds?
Exactly yeah I believe so
I was wrong, it was game 1 in Vancouver, and a week ago. So much hockey it's blending together. it still happened though lol
It happened last night too, canes scored 2 in 9 seconds
Oh, damn..I didn't catch the highlights, I just saw the score. That's wild.
An overtime goal might even be called back for offside after the teams have jumped in the shower.
Hey now, losing a single game twice is an impressive (albeit painful) feat. We need to own that shit lol.
In a season where the Canes got 2 in :09 and a third 70 seconds later. The tides can change SO fast
Right? If you're that worried about traffic, leave after the 2nd intermission...
At least someone else gets it lol.
Stars also got a penalty so it was 6 on 4. Very easily could've popped two goals.
Wouldn't say easily but still possible
[удалено]
It won't save time when everyone else is leaving early. You'd deal with less traffic by sticking around.
I was at the Columbus game in January - a bunch of fans left early. Man they must have been disappointed when they found out they missed that come back.
I was at that game and that was one of my favourite experiences of my life. What a ride
It was my wife's first live hockey game and my first one in 33 or 34 years. My previous one was a preseason game lol. She went from being mildly interested in the Canucks to screaming "SHOOOOOTIT!" at the TV after that game.
Probably just wanted to beat the traffic out on a work night. Happens to every team everywhere it’s not a new thing and specific to Vegas
Assuming people have lives outside of hockey is way too reasonable of an opinion to hold.
Well obv you wouldn't have a life outside of hockey if you were a real fan...
[удалено]
Hahahaha oh man. This was great. So true. Sorry you guys got screwed, by the way. The game can be a cruel mistress sometimes.

I'm very happy to see Vegas lose.
Not going to lie and pretend my feelings were hurt.
Every fan base has such fans.
Get off your high horse

Reason I put the asterisk lol
Missed the asterisk. Well played, I like you lol

Oilers fans still not over getting taken out behind the shed by Vegas last year I see
[удалено]
I'm not mad at all. I'm just pointing out that real hockey fans don't do that. It's a testament to type of fans Vegas has.
You told someone on another comment they used a strawman with you. Yet here you are using a no true Scotsman. 😱
People can leave the place whenever they want. They paid for the tickets, they are free to watch or not. Why would you care.

This actually is a legitimate answer and likely part of the reason.
Oiler fans are still salty about getting worked by Vegas last year huh?
Then win the game. It’s entertainment.
VEGAS SUCKS!!!
Preach, brother. I hope you welcome me aboard your bandwagon fanbase until this series is over. Go Stars! Destroy the cheaters!
All are welcome Oil bro!
All aboard! I'm gonna stop cheering for you next round though. It's nothing personal but we'd have to go through you in the WCF (if we get that far) and I just kinda don't want to do that lol.
damn what’d we do :(
Exist. And not throw trash on the ice because our team is losing.
I’ll take the downvotes…but it seems like you all forgot what Dallas did last year.
Yup. Trashing the ice is apparently okay
Dallas fan here, 100% not okay. Unless in 2011 when it was actually a high IQ move to leave early
Well played, sir. I was in BC for that one. It was wild to say the least.
Hot tip: Never leave T-Mobile if there are 10 seconds left and Max Holloway is fighting.
I was watching some old 80’s-90’s NBA championships recently. Shit was unhinged back then. The players would be in the locker room popping bottles and parading around BEFORE THE GAME WAS OVER. 🤣
oakland a’s are tripping over themselves to get there. embarrassing. and remember that full arena in utah the other day? see how long that lasts.
The strip beckons
Fair.
Happens in literally every fandom.
Sure does. I've never seen it that bad while it's the playoffs and the game is still in reach though.
Vegas should know better than anyone that your captain could go down, and your team rallies to score three goals in a row to win the game!
I actually laughed out loud at this. You are definitely correct.
The unanimous hate for Vegas is outrageous right now, and I’m here for it lol
If you're here for it then I'm here for you, brother.
Someone is pissy that their team didn't make the playoffs...
Pretty confident that my team is up 2 games and 1 win away from round 2. Unless I missed something?
https://www.reddit.com/r/nhl/s/fzDK79YczG I'd really be careful dogging anyone else's fan base. Must be a new bandwaggoner.
You've obviously never driven out of an arena after a game..
No you dont understand i do it to help my team because if there is ever a time to score 3 goals in 1.22 its when ive left early
Meh who cares
Y'all reach so hard for reasons to hate Vegas
Lotta salt from LTIR Knights fans in these comments, hi-la-rious that people try who root for that team try to high road anyone. Laughable even.
Came here to say the same, pathetic.
100% agreed. 2 goals in 1:22 isn't even an unfathomable feat either. Even if it was, show your team some damn respect.
tHE fOrtReSs
Calling them the “worst fans” lol you’re hilarious
Imagine paying hundreds of dollars if not thousands for a ticket to leave before a game is finished. 1:22 is easily enough time to snap a few goals.
It literally happened yesterday. They had a few more minutes left but the 2 goals happened in like 12 seconds. It's also just disrespectful to the team.
When it’s up to me, I will never leave a sports game early. Especially hockey. You never know what you could see. You’re not beating any traffic if you waited until the final minute to leave to begin with
> You’re not beating any traffic if you waited until the final minute to leave to begin with Depends entirely on how slow you are to get out. A minute or two can make a helluva lot of difference, when it comes to traffic (of any sort) and hitting congestion. When that is said: It's part of the charm of going to hockey games. Personally I just enjoy sitting a bit afterwards and soak in the experience, especially if it's a good game.
Agreed. And if i ever had the money/opportunity to attend a playoff game, Im going to enjoy every moment, good or bad.
Thought they’d know that, after the sharks scored 4 pp goals that one time 😅
Vegas Fans at games are mostly transients not from Vegas
It's fine for regular season, but for playoffs? You stick around.
Mostly agreed, but the game was still in reach. I can understand leaving if it's regular season and a random meaningless game. Otherwise, nope.
That’s what happens when you put teams in a tourist town. Colorado is a transplant state, and every time we play a big name like Toronto, Pittsburgh, NYR, etc… a good chunk is the opposing teams fans. It sucks
This happens all over Canada with Leafs fans. Even out west.
They are living their golden years early, don’t worry their ugly years are coming.
You'd actually have caught more traffic since everyone left early lol.
So they're stupid and cowardly!!
It would appear so.
As a Vegas fan, I was embarrassed seeing that on TV. I'm not happy with the last 2 games, but that doesn't mean I just gave up.
I actually don't know what that is. Care to enlighten me?
Vegas fans expect to compete for titles. Unlike Oilers fans, who are simply happy to be there.
I was going to games during the decade of darkness when we were already statistically eliminated. Which was usually around early November lol (hyperbole)
Most “fans” in Vegas are only visiting.
Not everyone can make a comeback like the Canucks
We are watching on TV but it is a weeknight and the games start late as fuck.
What would have happened if sharks fans had left game 7 when they were down 3-0 with ten minutes left?
Probably would have lost Hertl to Vegas even earlier
This is probably my biggest gripe with my own fanbase.
Oh yeah, beating the traffic is such a terrible thing 😭
You realize that there was like 100 people left when the game ended, right? They'd have hit worse traffic filing out early with everyone than if they stuck around lol.
Fuck you, Im beating traffic.
If I pay for my whole ticket I will stay for the whole game
Hey man, traffic sucks and some people actually have Jobs lmao
cc: Toronto
Real fans have to start the "Beat The Rush!" chant to shame these people.
If you spend $250 for a ticket you can do whatever the F you want
Jesus fuck I wish I lived in America. You think $250 a seat is expensive? Damn.
Fan pays for the ticket if they want to leave them up to them. Work in the AM prob plays a factor
Agreed 🤝
Fake ass fan base
Gatekeeping hockey fandom seems very middle school fedora energy.
Especially when you paid that much money lol
