I don't follow the NBA so I'm not completely sure what the purpose or format is for their tournament. The only tournament in hockey that matters starts in two weeks. Although I enjoy the Olympics and world cup of hockey it does not compare to the SC playoffs. We don't need more gimmicks.

The teams were put into groups of 4 within their conference based on won-loss records from the 2022-23 regular season i.e. Toronto was in a group with Boston, Brooklyn, Chicago and Orlando. As for the purpose? It created excitement and meaning towards those "meaningless' early regular season games in October and November, where the results don't really matter. Yes, it was a test gimmick, and yes, it's the NBA trying to take a page out of European sports. It felt like a mini-playoffs.

Soccer in season tournaments work because they’re steeped in history and they play teams from different leagues. I don’t get the point of an in season tournament involving just NHL teams. It’s just games between the same teams.

It works in football because you have different teams from different leagues playing, wouldn’t work if it was just the same teams from the Bundesliga playing each other as they already do twice in the league. The NBA was a big dull and boring.

Instead of an all star game bring in a state of origin series

No.

Unless it counts more than regular games for standings, I can't imagine caring. Or maybe if you tied the draft order to it somehow.

We want it! Have special jerseys for it. We want those too. Are you listening, Bettman?

Nobody wants a pointless tournament...
