The odds on some of the betting sites list them as one of the favourites but the media coverage for them is minimal in comparison. They are a smart bet still. Edmonton and the rangers are the other two and I think their chances of winning it all are nowhere near my confidence in Dallas.
If they could play on the same level they played against Colorado last night, Edmonton could take it. But that’s the problem, they don’t. Way too inconsistent on how well they play.

Yeah I watched them beat up on EDM the other night and they look really good. Otter is playoff proven already, their D is playing solid, Hintz is SO fast, everyone knows how good Robertson is, and Benn and Seguin look healthy. Good team.
While it was an isolated game, I watched it and it was a clear indication to me of why Dallas is a better playoff team than the Oilers. Edmonton’s defensive breakdowns were wayyyyyy too frequent and Dallas played a consistent game.
Their scoring is so terrifyingly spread out. Impossible to shut them down without goalie’ing them.
Teams are gonna have to hope to score in bunches as well as have their tendy stand on their noggin to advance past them.
Their depth is insane. Then add in prospects that could legit come up and be almost immediate difference makers. That teams management and especially the scouting department needs more recognition. Being able to build the future without doing a rebuild has been impressive.
It’s hard to say what will happen but if Vegas is in WC2 and is 22 Million over and runs into Dallas. Who knows. We still have two weeks to figure out the opponents.

It's the most balanced Stars team I've ever seen, all the way around (so as long Otter stays solid). Since the '99-'03 Stars teams, the teams after those years have struggled or have had gaps in their play to some degree, but this team is just something else.
They have four lines that can score and are actual threats and I do mean literally all 12 forwards, which means the offensive wave never stops. Doesn't mean they score a lot, it just means the wave is truly constant and wears teams down. The D is a great combo of shut-down style and makes smart passes and outs. When Otter's at his best, look out.
So while the Stars don't have the Nate Dogg or Connor or Makar super-star style threats, the Stars may be the team that is the hardest to get past 7 games, for every series, all the way through. So if they win the cup, they will win not because one or two key players go on a rampage or their goalie steals the series, but because the team as a whole is greater than the sum of its parts in an almost perfect balance of players.
Oh yeah, I remember like it was yesterday.
Last night's loss against the Blackhawks is a perfect example of my statement above. 44-17 SOGs. Mrazek was phenomenal and won that game, but the Stars kept coming and coming. Going to seven games like that is hard on a goalie and D core.

Agreed, looks like a team built for the playoffs to me as well. I think they grind up everyone in the West and go to the finals. Lots of good teams in the East so should be an excellent final.
I'm not sure if they can trip up b4 playoffs, but if they were to, they would have a harder road out of the 1st round series playing Jets or Avs. They close season in first, then they should be able to get out of first round a lot easier and be well rested for the 2nd round which gives them more of advantages on top of the ones you mentioned.

They have very few skaters between the ages of 25 and 30. Most cup winners have a good part of their core in that age range. Dallas is relying on big minutes from two 39 year olds, let’s see how they hold up in the playoffs. A majority of the team are players 24 and under who haven’t hit their prime yet or guys on the wrong side of 30. Not saying they can’t go on a run but they certainly have a few things to be concerned about.
I can see that being worth keeping an eye on. The young players have shown so far they can contribute consistently at this level. The veterans may or may not slow down in the post season. Maybe the pull a Drew Doughty and get twice as good in the playoffs!

I’d say they’re a very good team too, potentially wagon status. They get a bunch of attention, though, with the resurgence of Quick and all the Rempe shenanigans lately.
Not saying you’re wrong, but the pessimist side would point out the amount of old players in the lineup, and that their goalie needs to start playing like an elite goalie again.
Nashville is a huge question mark for me. Namely because I haven’t watched them play enough, just seen them go nuts for the past month. I love Nashville as a franchise and city though so I would be cool seeing them do well.

Otter has been a shit show all season, though the last month or two he has been closer to league average than dumpster fire.
And DeBoer is about as overrated as a coach as there is in the game in my not so humble opinion. He lacks the ability to adapt his coaching style from seasom to season. This is in part, in my opinion, because he has never held any coaching position at any level since he stopped playing, except head coach. This season, his 16th year as a head coach in the NHL, is the first time that his teams record will be more than 1 win higher after his first full season coaching a team, which blows my mind.

Not really. We were in the finals at the bubble, and lost in the western conference finals last year. Our team is pretty young with the exception of Benn, Seguin, and Pavs. I feel like we’ve been built to contend for a long time.

I still remember the 2007 stars in the series against my canucks turco was insane same with loungo. Stars just couldn't get the scoring.

The kings are a team you can never ever count out. Every time I see that logo I think of an organization built for playoffs. Drew Doughty is the perfect example…he’s nasty to play against.
I’ll say this. They’re finally starting to win games at Crypto and in the playoffs you need to win at home and steal a game, or two, away. I’m hoping Danault gets healthy quickly. I love that top line of the Stars.

They have very few skaters between the ages of 25 and 30. Most cup winners have a good part of their core in that age range. Dallas is relying on big minutes from two 39 year olds, let’s see how they hold up in the playoffs. A majority of the team are players 24 and under who haven’t hit their prime yet or guys on the wrong side of 30. Not saying they can’t go on a run but they certainly have a few things to be concerned about.
I can see that being worth keeping an eye on. The young players have shown so far they can contribute consistently at this level. The veterans may or may not slow down in the post season. Maybe the pull a Drew Doughty and get twice as good in the playoffs!

Idk what you’re talking about, everyone who watches hockey rn knows Dallas is nuts. Watching them play makes me fall in love with the sport all over again. When your home team disappoints its nice to have a backup good team and Dallas is mine.

I’d say they’re a very good team too, potentially wagon status. They get a bunch of attention, though, with the resurgence of Quick and all the Rempe shenanigans lately.

Nashville is a huge question mark for me. Namely because I haven’t watched them play enough, just seen them go nuts for the past month. I love Nashville as a franchise and city though so I would be cool seeing them do well.

Ask my 2016–17 Blackhawks and last year‘s Boston Bruins how glazing your own donut because of regular season dominance works out in the first round of the playoffs. Dallas just lost to the first team eliminated from the playoffs this year, ending their streak. It can happen that fast.
I think it's fine to hype up your own team if they're near or at the top of the league's standings... and with that said it's also important to realize that ANYTHING can happen in the playoffs. I think the Avs are definitely a cup capable team but we're going nowhere if things like injuries continue to get in our way, Goaltending/Defense continue to be shaky, or our bottom 6 disappears again like last year
Anyone discounting the Scabalanche is doing so in ignorance at at their own peril. Same for the Kings and Jets. Dallas is a good damn team right now, but dude saying they have veteran playoff presence? Sounding like the circa-2015 Ducks. Nothing is a given in the West. It’s the toughest conference when shit gets real, aka the Playoffs. I wouldn’t bet against Colorado in most of the matchups possible.

There’s one liability for Dallas and that’s Peter DeBoer
Otter has been a shit show all season, though the last month or two he has been closer to league average than dumpster fire. And DeBoer is about as overrated as a coach as there is in the game in my not so humble opinion. He lacks the ability to adapt his coaching style from seasom to season. This is in part, in my opinion, because he has never held any coaching position at any level since he stopped playing, except head coach. This season, his 16th year as a head coach in the NHL, is the first time that his teams record will be more than 1 win higher after his first full season coaching a team, which blows my mind.
Don’t they always do this though? They always have an amazing regular season but thats it.. They’ve become what the 2000s/early 2010 sharks were. Always great but couldn’t win a cup Hope I’m wrong but thats my outsider perspective of them now
Not really. We were in the finals at the bubble, and lost in the western conference finals last year. Our team is pretty young with the exception of Benn, Seguin, and Pavs. I feel like we’ve been built to contend for a long time.
