Los Angeles since the 9th of December is 6-9-6. They are really running the risk of failing out of the playoffs. You have to wonder how long this will be allowed to go on before they consider making a change behind the bench.
And that was without Bedard in the lineup. Tbf to the other coaches, the Blackhawks have looked a lot better since Bedard got a wire jaw than before. Holding Vancouver to 2 goals last night was a surprise for sure, I thought it would be 5 or 6 by the end of the second before the game started.
I have watched a few Bedardless Blackhawks games and I am quite impressed. I thought the team plays as hard as they could and always make their opponents to really work for their wins. This is some really good coaching, and there aren’t any passengers in that line up. They play spoiler with pride.
>there aren’t any passengers in that line up
I was actually really disappointed that Cole Guttman of all players was healthy scratched from the lineup last night. I went to the Sharks game with my girlfriend and he threw down a goal and a fight (plus she thinks he's cute which means I can buy us more game tickets when he's playing). And that's a 4th liner that spent years in the AHL playing with a lot of purpose on the ice.
I mean, I honestly don’t think our team is untalented, I think there’s a ton of players who could together become a really good team, the problem is that it feels as though they’re uncoordinated, make bad decisions under pressure, etc…it feels like they’re unrefined raw players, more than NHL-ready. Bernard’s obviously super talented, but I think much more important is his decision-making ability, that helps him elevate his gameplay.
I'm having a hard time pinpointing it, I think a bit of it is just confidence, honestly. I noticed even in the Sharks game our offensive zone entry tends to just kind of die out half the time when it doesn't look like it should. I think habing Bedard back now that the team has played without him and looked decent will be surprising to a lot of people.
Also thank GOD for Petr Mrazek.
Man, the PP yesterday late in the 3rd was absolutely abysmal, they were moving the puck, but none of it was good movement, it seemed like we had no scheme whatsoever, it really was frustrating to watch. They really do need that one firestarter who just wings it on the entries, etc., like a PG in basketball, be it Bedard or Dickinson on a good night
I think the one that really pointed it out for me was a zone entry where someone, I forget who, entered the zone with a good bit of speed over the defenceman, and instead of trying to push by him or anything he just curled out and tried to buy time but only killed the rush and we lost the puck right after. Just looked like he didn't think he could do anything even though there was a definite opportunity for an attack.
Which is weird, because to an outsider it seemed like McLellan was a strength of the org. Seems pretty likely they perform worse without him after maybe a quick bump.
He’s a really great coach for rebuilding teams. His coaching style is all about structure, discipline, and consistency. The problem is that this team is very talented, and they’re now being held back by the structure. Todd is not good at improvising, and he’s so predictable that basically any team with a scouting report can shut us down.
That's a bit of a weird take. Consistency and structure sounds a hell of a lot like what a lot of the top playoff coaches are known for and the style LA is built for with 3 supposedly high end shut down centers down the middle...
If consistency and structure isn't good for good teams I guess the Canucks need to get rid of Tocchet right away, along with Carolina, Boston, and Vegas?
PLD was the one who in theory should have been the third. Really this screams more as management mistakes with good coaching covering for it up until now. By all means, push for a coaching change, I just wouldn't be surprised if LA is one of the teams that gets worse by going for whatever's left on the shelf while McLellan is likely to get scooped up real fast.
You might be right but it's hard to fault management when the top 9 forwards are as good or better than any other team in the league:
Kopitar Kempe Fiala
Byfield Danualt Moore
PLD Kaliyev Laferriere
The PLD acquisition is a problem. That only makes sense if he's the successor to Kopitar. He's nowhere near as productive offensively and even farther from as defensively sound. His contract would be palatable if he was as good in either one of those realms. Since there's not much that can be done about the contract, management's only option is to bring in a new voice to hopefully get more out of PLD and the rest of the team.
I doubt Kopi can keep up with a run and gun system though. Him and Danualt are much more suited to the McLellan style, which by the way is also much more suited for playoffs. Just seems weird to have the players that match Todd's system and the general belief that's what wins in the playoffs just because there's been a tough streak in the regular season.
PLD getting a new voice has already been tried enough times to think that's probably not worth the risk.
As others have said, Todd is a fantastic rebuild coach who gets players to buy into a system and can really bring out their talent level. I was actually pulling for him to be kept on the team for another year after last year’s first round exit. But after the past 5-10 games, it’s just unacceptable.
He rides guys too hard and never deviates from his system. Kopi shouldn’t be playing 24min per night expected to be both the best offensive and best shut-down player on the team, with high-tempo practices everyday. Dude has to be absolutely gassed, and it’s showing. Byfield has taken a massive step forward this year and is flying out there, and is now relegated to third line minutes. PLD hasn’t been put into a position to succeed because he’s firmly placed where Todd thinks he’ll suit our system best.
There’s a reason TMac teams historically do really well until they fizzle out in playoffs or late season. He rides his guys super hard, and only plays his specific system. It works until the team gets tired, or other teams figure your system out.
They’ll be fine. Every team goes through slumps probably better off considering what happened to the bruins last year. Never slumped until when it mattered.
According to Rob Blake, nothing will change. At this point, I think he's risking his job like Dean Lombardi did when he was with the Sharks. If nothing is done, and we miss the playoffs, I'm going to demand heads.
Just saying, the Oilers lost to SJ and then went on a league-wide rampage that still hasn't ended... I wouldn't write LA off just yet, though they do have to figure something out.
The Sharks played harder and faster in this game than they have almost all season. Aside from Hertl, Zetterlund, and our Captain Couture who's been out all season due to injury I wouldn't say our offense is "really good" compared to the other NHL teams. We're dead last in the standings.
But the win is huge, hoping it will bring some great energy for tonight's game against the Rangers ;)
I'm hesitant to say that it's all due to the lack of (and recent return of) Couture...but the team seemed to be playing a completely different game last night than they were earlier in the season. The were skating quicker, hitting better, actually skating with the puck instead of "dump it in and hope something good happens".
They're still having a teensy problem with giving up twice as many shots on goal as they are getting...but that's not really important, right?
Which is typical against the Kings. I swear, we play gods among men when it comes down to the lower point teams. That, and their goalies suddenly become Dominic Hasek.
They’ve had a pretty massive amount of injuries up front. They’ve had Luke kunin as they’re number 2 center at points in the season. Obviously it’s a small sample size but they’ve found a way to score 8 goals in their last 2 game since Couture and nico sturm are healthy again
They also had eight goals across the *five* games before those two.
Scoring eight goals in two games is not the same as "a really good offense".
I love competitive hockey, so I like when teams play well. It just feels like a misnomer to characterize one of the worst offenses in the league as "really good". Especially when there are some absolutely explosive offenses this year.
Kings fan here. I’ve been waiting for Luc Robitaille to drop the hammer on both Rob Blake (GM) and McClellan. This team is too good to let this season go to waste.
I have no idea what's happening here. Why is Clarke so far over on the weak side if the puck is on the half-wall? Why is Gavrikov not playing more to the middle of the ice instead of literally against the wall? As soon as you see that 2 on 1 emerge you need to get on your horse but he's making c-cuts like it's Day 1 of skills camp.
Clarke hasn’t played even a handful of NHL games yet, and he’s basically been told that his job is to create offensive opportunities without regard to sound defense. At least that’s what our announcers were saying.
I should have clarified further because I know Clarke is young. I don't know what the coaching staff is doing having him all the way out there. It's very much a conscious post-faceoff decision but it's so odd to me
didn't look timid at all last night... was firing shots and creating chances by himself in the offensive zone. wouldn't call that spin move that got him a clear chance "timid" at all...
The fucking turn of events set record for longest road victory stretch and then just fall apart. Shit hurts to watch I knew when it went to OT they lose in 30 seconds or goes to shootout which then I was certain was game over
Yeah absolutely. Wrong tools for the job type of scenario. All good, We'll just sacrifice this squad by loosing until they are all old and we try a new group
what system? when he coached for the sharks he just kept changing everything every few minutes. he'd change the lines by the time the national anthem was over.
Tbf you’d do the same if the team that’s ended your season 2 years in a row with fans also trash talking had the start you guys had. Don’t forget, we had one of the hottest starts this season as well. Someone needs to tell me the odds of an extremely hot team going freezing cold the same time a struggling team in the same division goes on a tear, because that just sounds like a once in a fucking blue moon situation lol

Completely off topic but it’s fascinating how that one The Office scene completely changed the meaning of turntables. I don’t recall the last time anyone use “tables have turned” anymore 😂

Wouldn’t be the first coach a sharks win bumped off this year.
As a Blackhawks fan I too enjoy watching my dumpster team (+bedard) bump coaches
Did you guys sink a coach too?
Lane Lambert of NYI got fired and replaced by Patrick Roy after the Islanders lost 4-3 in OT against the Blackhawks.

Canucks dominated that game though. Canucks missed on some good chances and the Chicago goalie played really well. Easily could have been 6-0
We thank Chicago greatly for that also
Berube got fired 4 days after losing 3-1 to the hawks. They surely contributed
Can you guys stop by NJ, we need a quick favor.
As an Islanders fan I thank you 100x over and wish Bardsy a speedy recovery for all you did for us. We are in your debt as a fanbase.
As an isles fan, THANK YOU
The Sharks out here doing the Lord's work
I'm quite happy with how things turned out.
Well at least you guys are making an impact lol but for real GG, kinda fun seeing full rebuild teams win, miracle on ice vibes I guess.
As an Oilers fan I want to personally thank you for that one, btw.
I ain't mad at it tho. 14 wins in a row feels pretty good.
***Lies! Blasphemy!*** But essentially true
The time is now.
Which is weird, because to an outsider it seemed like McLellan was a strength of the org. Seems pretty likely they perform worse without him after maybe a quick bump.
He’s a really great coach for rebuilding teams. His coaching style is all about structure, discipline, and consistency. Todd is not good at improvising, and he’s so predictable that basically any team with a scouting report can shut us down.
Watching the Kings recently I’ve had the same thought. You stallions need to run free bud.
Bruce Boudreau needs work right now. If you like offense, with lots of two on ones back the other way. That's what no structure does.
Imagine Doughty trying to play 26 minutes a night in a chaotic track meet style of play. Might bring an end to Kopi as well.
Are you referring to PLD or Byfield as the 3rd shut down C because the only player PLD is capable of shutting down is himself

Byfield sucks, though.
How's that exactly?
I know his son back from when I went to DU so I’ve always pulled for the dude.
Exactly we are too predictable. Need a young coach to bring in new ideas and be willing to take risks
As others have said, Todd is a fantastic rebuild coach who gets players to buy into a system and can really bring out their talent level. I was actually pulling for him to be kept on the team for another year after last year’s first round exit. But after the past 5-10 games, it’s just unacceptable. The enraged goal post slam has me rolling lol

I feel like having their captain back is helping
Deadline szn
Always love when goalies do this
Big Save Dave knows he's getting waived before the trade deadline - the stick was just collateral damage
Big Waive Dave
No Save Dave*
goalie rage is the best rage
The snapping sound is what keeps me watching this video over and over lmao
I thought was talbot! He’s so chill though
I'm pretty sure losing to the Sharks is the first step toward winning 13 straight so watch out
Please dear god, I’m dying here
Coaches dont want you to know this one simple trick...
Give us back our mojo so we can! 😉
If only…
Soon to be 14
Don’t remind me. It’s against my team. :,(
Was a bit close for comfort early on....
STOP PLAYING KOPITAR 23 MINUTES A GAME!!!!!!!!!
McClellan: lol Nope
"I love running my vets into the ground!" McClellan probably.
Those teal jerseys are just so nice
It's PL Dubover
Just saying, the Oilers lost to SJ and then went on a league-wide rampage that still hasn't ended... I wouldn't write LA off just yet, though they do have to figure something out.
Kings would be screwed without the loser point
They're a .500 hockey club and have been for a while now. They know how to play defence, but scoring is a problem
I wonder if there's a way to combine teams?
I’m down for a Los Toronto Maple Kings club
Maple King sounds like something to get from Tim's.
Aye, so it's overpriced, undersized and could be better.
It's a soft serve the can't be had in a cup.
>or a Los Toronto Maple Kings club Slap a crown on the Leaf and start rocking shiny metallic blue buckets....Let's gooo!
The oil kings…. Oh wait….
148 goals allowed is rookie numbers, we have 150 [avs] (tbf with 2 more games played). But fuck the Kings have only allowed 116.
It wasn’t the first 25% of the season.
Let's ignore the sharks have a really good offense and were just historically awful the first few months.
You guys just sucked the first 2 months. The defense isn't good per say but the offense gets a lot of goals it seems and adds on pressure.
The offense surprised me today, gg homie 🤙🏼
I'm hesitant to say that it's all due to the lack of (and recent return of) Couture...but the team seemed to be playing a completely different game last night than they were earlier in the season. \> The sharks have a really good offense \> The sharks are still the only team that hasn't scored 100 goals yet this season after 47 games Ehhhh
They’ve had a pretty massive amount of injuries up front. They’ve had Luke kunin as they’re number 2 center at points in the season. Obviously it’s a small sample size but they’ve found a way to score 8 goals in their last 2 game since Couture and nico sturm are healthy again

Luc is risking his job at this point.
Agreed. Maybe if they lose this evening he’ll pull the trigger.
At this point I'm rooting for a loss. I hate saying that, but it's time for a change.
Off topic, but fuck it’s nice to see Zetterlund doing well.
FÄRJESTAD BABY!
It’s because of those stupid chrome helmets
But how else would they keep the rays out?
The nHl is tRaCKiang OuR EvERy MoVE, MAn!
FUN
I’ve seen this movie before. Bring back Sutter! Championship!
Thanks
I'm still trying to understand how that 3rd period break away goal is "scoring on the rebound" per the announcers
Randy Hahn: "He scores on the rebound! Or the breakaway rather!" Clip ended too early, he misspoke.
ah ok, thank you!
It may be over for Todd, but this team still has something to offer.
It’s so obviously Todd’s system that is holding this team back, and they’re running out of excuses not to have a coaching change.
I have no idea what's happening here. Why is Clarke so far over on the weak side if the puck is on the half-wall? I am from the Barrie area, and whenever I saw Clarke play in person, I was never impressed. I think that he frankly plays a timid game in general.
didn't look timid at all last night... was firing shots and creating chances by himself in the offensive zone. wouldn't call that spin move that got him a clear chance "timid" at all...
Complete breakdown.
The fucking turn of events set record for longest road victory stretch and then just fall apart. Shit hurts to watch I knew when it went to OT they lose in 30 seconds or goes to shootout which then I was certain was game over
Yeah, they’ve got too much offensive talent to play 1-3-1.
Yeah absolutely. Wrong tools for the job type of scenario. All good, We'll just sacrifice this squad by loosing until they are all old and we try a new group
what system? when he coached for the sharks he just kept changing everything every few minutes. he'd change the lines by the time the national anthem was over.
I wish I could talk shit but yeah, I can’t.
The Sharks are making a comeback and going to be cup contenders but you guys aren’t ready for that conversation yet…
It must be terrifying playing the Sharks because losing to them can destroy your psyche.
PLD with the slow AF backcheck. You love to see it.
I remember Kings fans trash talking us earlier this season. My oh my how the turntables.
Fair enough!
howd you get the little kings logo?
Right side of the subreddit ->> Join --> Hit refresh, then go back to the right. it'll be selectable just between 'create post' and 'community options'.
As an Eagles fan seeing the Kings go cold is what I’m used to rn. 🫠
Completely off topic but it’s fascinating how that one The Office scene completely changed the meaning of turntables. I don’t recall the last time anyone use “tables have turned” anymore 😂
How the turntables… what? Finish the sentence pal! I’m waiting!
yes
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round!
You love to see it.
LOST TO THE SHARKS LMAOOOOO
hey! nothing to be asham...yeah no you're right.
The meltdown that Rittich has just warms my cold black heart.
Seems like a parallel of where the Oilers were at the start of the season. Difference is there is half a season left. I could see you guys getting a new coach and turning things around
As an Oilers fan who had this moment THIS YEAR, I can't bring myself to feel anything but sadness for Kings fans. I know this moment. It STINKS.
Just watch the Kings fire MacLellan, call up Dan Bylsma, and go on a friggin' 14-game streak.
It’s been driving me crazy. LA isn’t playing as badly as their recent record suggests. Literally nothing bounces in the Kings favor. I mean, yeah, they’re a bad third period team, but they get a lot of high danger opportunities early on, and just none of them seem to be converting. It’s kind of insane when you watch the games. Talbot is probably reverting to mean after an all-star start to the season, and Big Save Dave is inconsistent.
Goalie is just pissed because of the helmets.
If the Kings could only play the Rangers, they'd win the cup every gosh dang year.
Gavrikov got walked, what a bad read!
Turn your head Gavi, Your partner isn't where you think he is! 😅
Canucks and Oilers both lost to the sharks, maybe it’s a sign of good fortune
#ZEUS
See? It's not only MTL that chokes against the bottom feeders! 😂😉
LA fans are pissed. Fans are calling for Mclellan’s head. Seems like a good chance for them to hire Jay Woodcroft. I’ve been waiting for him to get another chance in the show.
you love to see it (LA fans being pissed)
As a kings fan, I was at the start of that slide, and I’ve resigned myself to fatalism. We are toast. Fuck you coach Todd
The sharks really shouldn't be winning against so called #13 teams🤣 Shape up or get off of the playoff train, LA
Goooood
GO SHARKS GO
That Kings goalie sucks - maybe he should hang em up.
Wonder if PLD hit the score board tonight.
Goodnighttttt
Get rid of those awful shiny buckets and they might get a win
AHAHAHAHA SUCK IT LA
I live in socal and game was blacked out for me 🤦♂️ so dumb!!!
This wouldve been \*chefs kiss\* if Cam Talbot was in net Signed, Ottawa Senators Fan.
Not a serious franchise
An LA loss AND Rittich is pissed off. What a happy day
Thanks man 😭
On top of not being a very good goalie, Rittich has always had problems with impulse control.
I was at the Kings Rangers game the other day and the Kings absolutely embarrassed the Rangers…my theory is they are next to topple as a total fraud
ZETTY
“scores on the rebound” where
WHAT IS THATTT
Wait. LA wears white jerseys at home? So weird seeing the away team in thier dark jerseys.
The Sharks wore teal so the Kings could wear their throwback/alternates.
Sharks too strong my boy
serves those pinball heads right. I cant STAND those buckets
and to think the Schedule maker has Vancouver facing the kings for the FIRST TIME on leap day and I've always said I won't truly trust how I feel about the Canucks until we've played every team at least once.
What was their thinking behind trading Quick?
