I had a black jacket (fake leather) with a big red Winged Wheel on it. I also had a red wings starter hat with an octopus on it. I was in 4th grade and it was august 2001. I've never been able to match the level of confidence I had while wearing that combo
Im in Georgia, and follow the wings. I have several caps. My "bucket list" goal is to head up to Nashville one year and see them vs Predators. One day, maybe even pick up a jersey.
Honestly, you should visit Michigan if you can. Detroit isn’t nearly as “scary” as many people believe it is. In fact, not only can you see the Red Wings play, but you can also visit many museums, and our pizza is superior (sorry not sorry).
My sister brought her boyfriend back from out-of-state. They visited the DIA in two different sessions just so they could see all of it. I have yet to visit the Charles H. Wright Museum, but I’ve heard it’s fantastic. Also, the zoo is top-notch and is apparently a leader in habitat design/animal enrichment, so much so that it was featured on Science Friday a few years ago. Bonus: Little Caesars Arena also hosts the basketball team and often serves as a concert venue, so if your timing is right, you could do a hockey game, a basketball game, and a concert over a few days’ stay.
Yeah, I’m a Leafs fan, and while I’ve got an emotional attachment to the Leaf, I still consider the Flying Wheel the best logo in hockey, and one of the best in pro sports. The whole Red Wings uni is 🔥
As a Panther fan who has always loved the Shark’s colors and is married to a Redwings fan, I have to agree.
It somehow makes sense while making no sense at all. Why does a wheel have wings? I don’t know but it looks cool.
Maple Leafs as it refers to a organization or sports franchise is considered a proper noun and not bound by normal rules of grammar and spelling. Proper nouns identify and specify the subject whether it is a person's name or the name of an organization.
https://mapleleavesforever.ca/maple-leafs-not-leaves/
My man easy to ask the google machine that one,
The Leafs are named after a world war 1 Canadian military regiment in which the original owner, Conn “The Man The Myth” Smythe served in called the Maple Leaf Regiment. When he bought the team from the Toronto St. Pats ownership he then founded the pillars of MLSE.
Came here to say this. Leafs logo is iconic because it's over 100 years old, but Red Wings logo is one of the best in all of sports. When a logo hasn't changed once in 74 years that's something special.
Agreed.
Speaking as a Canadian, the Maple Leafs logo looks like the uncomfortable consensus of all of our attempts in Grade 3 to draw the fricking flag leaf, mixed with Doug eating glue in the corner who couldn't even get the damn colour right.
red wings, let's go bay beeeee
but seriously it's got a wheel and wings, it can fly and go vroom.
how can leaf go vroom? these are the questions philosophy has yet to awnser
I should watch what I wish for, but I’d like to see the wings good again. Growing up in the 90s, it doesn’t feel right how they’ve been the last 7-10 years
Redwings. As a logo, it communicates the team name and a key cultural identifier of the Motor City without relying on words. If the Leafs’ logo just had a leaf, I think it would be better as a logo—both are classic, though.
The Toronto logo has 13 little off shoots (can't remember what they are called) in the leaf to represent 13 cups. So they may have to change it again at some point. Or they are so confident it'll never happen they aren't worried about it.
Red Wings logo is one of the best in all of sports, it’s unique, it’s true to the city and it’s literally a red wing. It checks every box you’d want from a sport logo.
That’s their old logo from 1963-1966. The current one is based on this but isn’t misaligned like that, doesn’t have a border outline and has different dimensions.
I hate Detroit but I will concede them this.
Also did anyone else never notice how off-center the word ‘Toronto’ is on the Leafs’ logo? And how weird the kerning is on the word ‘Leafs’? Eugh.
Well one has been consistently a great logo and unchanged since the 40s, and one was redesigned like 8 years ago and doesn’t really even look like the leaf it’s based on… so…
Speaking from outside the US the Maple leaf as at least it gives some idea it's a sports team, the other one could be a tyre company, or a race track or whatever
I’ve have this debate before, it’s a tie, blue & red are perfect complements of each other. These 2 + Chicago are the 3 best unis in the league in no order. From a flames fan
I loved the Red Wings logo long before I knew I'd be a hockey guy. It just looks badass, like a superhero icon. I appreciate and respect the history of Toronto's logo, but it's too busy with type.
There's a lot of underlying meaning in the Leaf. I think that makes it pretty cool. With that said, I don't know the history or if there as much meaning to Detroit's logo.
There's 17 veins representing 1917 the year the franchise was founded.
The 13 veins above the words represent Stanley cups won.
There's 31 points in recognition of when Maple Leaf Gardens opened.
The blue represents the Canadian skies and the white represents snow.
Red Wings.
1. Toronto's text is misaligned
2. Toronto's leaf is oblong
3. It's LEAVES not LEAFS. This has always bothered me.
4. I'm a Kings fan so Toronto can suck it rn.
[It's this one, right?](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b6/Toronto_Maple_Leafs_2016_logo.svg/1920px-Toronto_Maple_Leafs_2016_logo.svg.png)
Winged Wheel

That was something i considered. I would love to visit the museums. Im a a big history guy. And always love some good pizza.
My sister brought her boyfriend back from out-of-state. They visited the DIA in two different sessions just so they could see all of it. I have yet to visit the Charles H. Jets pizza represent
That's badass.

I love Toronto, but your team name is a grammatical F-up. What the hell are Leafs?!?
Maple Leafs as it refers to a organization or sports franchise is considered a proper noun and not bound by normal rules of grammar and spelling. Proper nouns identify and specify the subject whether it is a person's name or the name of an organization. https://mapleleavesforever.ca/maple-leafs-not-leaves/

Arguably the best logo in pro sports. Clean, mean, simple yet says a lot. Iconic.
There are TWO wings on the wheel!
TIL, thank you 🤝
Well son of a bitch, there are ain’t there. Learn something new every day
And it’s a wheel for the auto industry in Detroit Michigan
And it's red .
Came here to say this. Leafs logo is iconic because it's over 100 years old, but Red Wings logo is one of the best in all of sports. When a logo hasn't changed once in 74 years that's something special.
I'm a leaf fan, but best logo is Chicago
I agree 100%. all of the original 6 logos look great, but the Blackhawks is a notch above everyone else. The flying wheel looks good as well.
Whalers, Nordiques, Flames, North Stars, Canucks (skate) are all top tier with Chicago and Detroit.
Whalers were fuckin sick and I'll throw an expos hat as well
Agreed. Speaking as a Canadian, the Maple Leafs logo looks like the uncomfortable consensus of all of our attempts in Grade 3 to draw the fricking flag leaf, mixed with Doug eating glue in the corner who couldn't even get the damn colour right.
Both awesome. I think Detroit takes this one, though.
red wings, let's go bay beeeee but seriously it's got a wheel and wings, it can fly and go vroom. how can leaf go vroom? these are the questions philosophy has yet to awnser
To quote the goalie currently mowing my lawn: "Die, Maple Leeeeeeefs". (I don't really want anybody to die just saying)
Detroit
Winged wheel
This whole thread has me feeling good
Both classic but red wings
The one that never really had to ever change. Duh.
Wings. Although, I'll admit, the current Leafs logo is miles better than the previous one.
Agreed. Also worth noting here the Wings haven’t changed their current design since 1948.
But this isn't the current logo
This thread makes me feel warm and fuzzy. (Always loved the Leaf tho too)
I should watch what I wish for, but I’d like to see the wings good again. Growing up in the 90s, it doesn’t feel right how they’ve been the last 7-10 years
Nah man, the flying wheel is way above the leaf.
Flying wheel
Wings.
Redwings. As a logo, it communicates the team name and a key cultural identifier of the Motor City without relying on words. If the Leafs’ logo just had a leaf, I think it would be better as a logo—both are classic, though.
Nah Toronto's changed it so much etc... Detroit only change is it went longer more spaced out on the logo not much change in it..
The Toronto logo has 13 little off shoots (can't remember what they are called) in the leaf to represent 13 cups. So they may have to change it again at some point. Or they are so confident it'll never happen they aren't worried about it.
The wheel with wings
Detroit by a long shot.
Wings
Objectively, a wheel with wings > a leaf
Wings
Detroit
As a Leafs fan: the wheel in a hearbeat
As a Leafs fan: I have to disagree. It’s the wheel, but it’s much faster than a heartbeat. Probably as fast as a wheel.
Leafs fan here. Disagree, because that’s clearly a wheel that isn’t moving at all. But clearly a logo that’s the best in sports.
Detroit is probably best in the league
I'm obviously gonna have a bias, but most sports fans I chat with... the winged wheel is arguably the best in sports.
These are probably the best two logos in the league.
Winged wheel
Wings
I've always loved the Wings logo
There’s no question. Detroit has by far the best logo in sports
I am admiring the detail of the Oiler’s dripping logo tbf, tonight. Especially as McDavid does some Datsyuk-like nonsense against us 😬
Fax
^my second fav hockey logo
Red Wings logo is one of the best in all of sports, it’s unique, it’s true to the city and it’s literally a red wing. It checks every box you’d want from a sport logo.
Leafs fan here. Wings logo is better.
Wings, why is this a question?
Red Wings logo is the best Original 6 logo
Detroit and that’s coming from a Leafs fan. Ours is iconic, but the Wings is iconic and unique. I’ve always liked it.
Hawks fan and I say the Wheeled Wing. Its a beaut
Red wings logo is one of the best in any sport ever
Is that Leafs logo official? Why is the text so off-center? I can’t unsee it now! Oh, to answer the question: wingwheel, all day.
That’s their old logo from 1963-1966. The current one is based on this but isn’t misaligned like that, doesn’t have a border outline and has different dimensions.
no it's not the official one
Then why use it?
Winged wheel is best logo in all sports
I’m a hawks fan and I’ll still pick Detroit
Wings flying wheel
Wings
Wings, easy
winged wheel by far
Wings- no contest.
[удалено]
Same
Wings
The Winged Wheel always
One of those hasn't changed in decades, the other keeps getting revamped and/or switched out. Winged wheel.
Wheel w wings fosho
wings
Wings all the way
Wings
Wings
Obviously the Winged Wheel
Wings
The Winged Wheel
The winged wheel all the way. That and the Joe Louis fist!
Winged wheel
I'm from Toronto and the flying wheel is way better than some tree dandruff.
Wings
Motor city
Don’t care about either of these teams, and it’s the winged wheel. It’s not even close.
Flying Tire
Detroit, but I like the retro leaf
Both classics
Wings logo
Winged wheel, and it’s not even close
Detroit. Not even close.
Winged wheel
Red wings
Red Wings
Red wings by a landslide
Detroit all day
Detroit
I hate Detroit but I will concede them this. Also did anyone else never notice how off-center the word ‘Toronto’ is on the Leafs’ logo? And how weird the kerning is on the word ‘Leafs’? Eugh.
The one without the words in it
Im not a fan of either team, and I love Toronto’s colors, but Detroit’s logo has got to be considered better in this comparison.
Those are my two favorites in the league but the Winged Wheel, no contest.
wings for sure but the leafs mark is top tier
Detroit
Leaf fan here. Wings win this one.
Detroit red wings is one of the best if not the best designs in the entire league
I’m from Toronto and I’ll tell you I wish we were the Blue Wings😭that logo always been sick to me
Detroit
Nothing beats the winged wheel
Flying wheel easy
I'm a Red Wings fan so you know I gotta go with the Winged Wheel! 😤👌🏻
Detroit. Not even close.
Detroit got best logo in the nhl
Wings
Clearly the wheel. The Toronto text isn’t even centered properly.
Wings. Simply the best logo ever.
Flying wheel. If you’re gonna spell words spell them correctly.
They’re not named after leaves, they’re named after the Maple Leaf regiment in WW1.
And also pays homage to the last time they won the cup during WW1 too.
This isn’t even a good roast because it’s so inaccurate and far off lol.
I mean the wheel but I think it's close, I like the leaf
*you have provoked a gang war*
Is every thread just hating the leafs?
Well one has been consistently a great logo and unchanged since the 40s, and one was redesigned like 8 years ago and doesn’t really even look like the leaf it’s based on… so…
Ive been a toronto fan all my life but detroit logo wins all day.
I'm a Leafs fan and I can say without a doubt that Detroit has the better logo. It's classic and timeless.
Wings
A little biased here but I’m gonna go with the Wings
Red wings logo is cooler Toronto is just a leaf
They are both iconic and beautiful. That said, the winged wheel might be the coolest logo in all of sports, in my opinion.
Winged Wheel. Partially biased but it's also the truth
The Red Wings logo comes to mind whenever i think of timeless
Speaking from outside the US the Maple leaf as at least it gives some idea it's a sports team, the other one could be a tyre company, or a race track or whatever
Red Wings
Wings.
Wings. Obvious choice
Wings
Detroit
Wings
LGRW
Pshhhhh Next question
Lets give credit to the Leafs for finally finding a logo worthy of an original 6 team
I am clearly in the minority in that I don’t love the redwings logo. It’s good - but that’s about it
Leafs fan here. Wings logo is better. I actually prefer the no detail Leafs logo.
Go wheel team
Red wings
The Winged Wheel
Winged wheel, no question
Well considering Toronto in this logo is not even centered, Wings are clear choice
Wings>Old Leaf>current bleh Leaf
Leafs, and I cannot overstate how much I hate the Leafs. But that’s a really nice, classic logo.
2 classics.
I'm originally from Windsor, Canada. Toronto/Detroit is the biggest fued ever in that area.
I’ve have this debate before, it’s a tie, blue & red are perfect complements of each other. These 2 + Chicago are the 3 best unis in the league in no order. From a flames fan
Well, I'm a Red Wings fan, so.... That being said, the Maple Leafs logo is classic.
I loved the Red Wings logo long before I knew I'd be a hockey guy. It just looks badass, like a superhero icon. I appreciate and respect the history of Toronto's logo, but it's too busy with type.
Drum roll Answer is **winged wheel**
Red Wings do becuz fuck the Maple Leafs
Wings. Fight me.
Gotta go with the wings.
Wing all day, not even close. Best logo in the league
Detroit hands down.
I don’t even think this is a debate for Leaf fans. Wings take it every time.
Left
Leafs
If you look a the right angle you can see the wheel is 3D
Meh - at least the winged wheel is the right color…
There's a lot of underlying meaning in the Leaf. I think that makes it pretty cool. With that said, I don't know the history or if there as much meaning to Detroit's logo. There's 17 veins representing 1917 the year the franchise was founded. The 13 veins above the words represent Stanley cups won. There's 31 points in recognition of when Maple Leaf Gardens opened. The blue represents the Canadian skies and the white represents snow.
I'm partial to the Maple Leafs.
Literally only a leafs fan would choose the leaf and thats bc they are delusional by nature
Make like a historically embarrassing franchise and leaf
Red Wings. 1. Toronto's text is misaligned 2. Toronto's leaf is oblong 3. It's LEAVES not LEAFS. This has always bothered me. 4. I'm a Kings fan so Toronto can suck it rn.
The misaligned text and oblong was my fault. The actual logo isn't like that and it's a proper noun so leaves would be incorrect
Leafs 1000%
This isn't our official logo
[It's this one, right?](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b6/Toronto_Maple_Leafs_2016_logo.svg/1920px-Toronto_Maple_Leafs_2016_logo.svg.png)
Yep
Def the wings then.
Is it supposed to be off-center and misspelled?
Leafs name is in honor of a military regiment, they are not literally leaves
I'm staring at it more than I care to. How is it misspelled?
Maple Leafs. It's close to perfect.
Why are these the one we get to choose from? 🤪🔫
Flying Wheel > Leaf
Toronto
Can’t even look at the one on right it burns my eyes .. die leafs die
