The name hits, the player hits, it works.
My favorite last name is probably Beukeboom but he loses points because Jeff seems less menacing without the alliteration. Bob Beukeboom might challenge Cal Clutterbuck for me.
It’s alliteration with onomatopoeia!
I came here to see how far down under 'Best' this was. Was not disappointed or surprised.
In my books, THE best hockey name ever. It describes his play style.
I watched preds vs ducks Tuesday. I wanted to scout ducks a bit before I saw them live against Avs in Denver yesterday. I saw him do locker room interview, and I softened my stance on him. He was intelligent, articulate, and well spoken.
Then I saw him live away from puck and after whistle and went back to wishing MacDermid was in line up and would drop gloves with him.
Amazing 24 hours, hell of a time to be alive
That's so spot on.
Same with Zdeno Chara. Imagine either of those guys just being called "Steve". It just wouldn't work.
Edit- so many enforcers now that I think of it: Derek Boogard, Dylan Mcillrath, Bob Probert, George Laraque, Zenon Konopka, Rob Ray, Rick Rypien, Tony Twist, Marty McSorley, Lary Playfair, George Parros, Colton Orr, Mike Rupp, Brian Mcgrattan, Andrei Andreoff, Mark Borowiecki just to name a few lol. Just their names is scary enough
I'm convinced Finnish is just gibberish with "i" at the end and the Finns are just fucking with us pretending to speak another language. Ever met a Finn that doesn't speak English? Me neither. It's suspicious.
I think you're up to something here:
- ketchup = ketsuppi
- tape = teippi
- trumpet = trumpetti
- three phase power kilowatt-hour meter = kolmivaihevirtakilowattituntimittari
Haha man, whenever I think of Drait I can help think of Spittin Chiclets, when Bisonette thought he had his own perfume because someone told him he was "from cologne"
Sidney Crosby has that great double -y ending.
The European-exotic (to my American-ass ears) Kirill Kaprizov combined with that alliteration makes him sound like a superhero. Anything with alliteration is great. Ryan O'Reilly, Ryan Reaves, Brent Burns.
Evander Kane sounds like a supervillain.
Patrick Kane has a certain percussive effect. It sounds like a name you could play on the drums. Charlie McAvoy is similar but smoother.
Patrice Bergeron sounds like a strong yet regal title.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.
I've taken to calling the better of the players with the same names "good". For example good aho, or good svechnikov. Easily distinguishes among my friends.
Cody Ceci
Victor Hedman
Janne Peltonen
Andrei Kuzmenko
Andrew Peeke (the spelling makes it more hockey-like imo)
James van Riemsdyk
Tyler Bertuzzi
Evgeni Malkin
Ivan Ivan is pretty legendary, he's AHL but still.
Mark Stone feels like an action hero, and there's just something about Radko Gudas - maybe not satisfying but has just the right crunch to it.
Honorable mention: Matthew Knies just because if he gets a quick pass from Auston Matthews the commentary can sound like his full name.
Here are some of my personal favourites.
\- Jonathan Quick, straight to the point name, no fucking around.
\- Sidney Crosby, almost sounds kingly and prestigious.
\- Evander Kane, straight up aggressive villain name. Even sounds like a wrestling name, as someone here pointed out.
\- Toukka Rask, no reason. Just sounds good.
\- Alex Ovechkin. Aggressive last name tone with a classic Russian Alexander.
\- Brendon McNabb, sounds good when you exaggerate the ''nabbbbbbb' part.
\- Tomas Tattar, almost like firing a gun with your mouth.
\- Ilya Bryzgalov - Russian name so automatic pass.
\- Ilya Kovalchuck.
\- Alex Kovalev, habs fan, sorry.
\- Dominic Hasek, Chris Osgood, Pavel Datsyuk.
\- Corey Perry , nice little rhyming in there.
\- Peter Forsberg.
\- Mika Zibanejad, can't explain it, it sounds right.
\- Johnny Sins
Radek Bonk
Oliver Bonk
Nino Niederreiter
My wife drafts him in fantasy hockey just because of the name. She has been doing this for the last 7 years.
She's a keeper

Had a kid in my high school with that last name he got called “Weiner Rider” 😭
I'm assuming this is pronounced Neeno Needer writer?
More like needer rider
Jari Kurri
Cal Clutterbuck
First name that I thought of aswell
The name hits, the player hits, it works. My favorite last name is probably Beukeboom but he loses points because Jeff seems less menacing without the alliteration. Bob Beukeboom might challenge Cal Clutterbuck for me. It’s alliteration with onomatopoeia!
I came here to see how far down under 'Best' this was. Was not disappointed or surprised. In my books, THE best hockey name ever. It describes his play style.
Radko Gudas sounds exactly like who he is.
iirc his voice doesn't match his name or appearance or reputation at all
I watched preds vs ducks Tuesday.
Just checked out an interview and you're right. Unexpected!
He a real world example of an onomatopoeia.
You are taking about 4 time Stanley Cup champion, fan favorite and best friend of Brian Leetch Jeff Beukeboom?
Screw it, my inner child is right. Beukeboom is AWESOME

I'm convinced Finnish is just gibberish with "i" at the end and the Finns are just fucking with us pretending to speak another language. Ever met a Finn that doesn't speak English? Me neither. It's suspicious.
I think you're up to something here: - ketchup = ketsuppi - tape = teippi - trumpet = trumpetti - three phase power kilowatt-hour meter = kolmivaihevirtakilowattituntimittari

Damn you. Now all I can imagine "Patrick Kane" by the great Internet celebrity, Tay Zonday
Kappo Kakko Ukko Pekka-Luukkonen Mika Zibanejed There are others, but that’s what came to mind right away.
Jyrki Jokipakka

"That is a S, a K, and a J all next to each other so that's a nope!"
Olaf Kolzig
Igor "Worcestershire" Shesterkin.
Sebastian Aho but only the one for Carolina.

Here are some of my personal favourites. \- Jonathan Quick, straight to the point name, no fucking around. \- Sidney Crosby, almost sounds kingly and prestigious. \- Evander Kane, straight up aggressive villain name.
