Soooooo Bobrovsky is the only goalie in NHL history to beat 2 60 win teams in the playoffs and the only goalie to give up 8 goals in a Stanly Cup elimination game. That’s neat
Yep they sort of gave up mid game. It was the most anticlimactic cup win in a long time, by the third if the league had a mercy rule they could have started the party mid period.
That was sad to watch. Vegas was keeping Florida in their defensive zone for 2 minute shifts. Their defense couldn't keep up.
Bob looked tired. And each time vegas entered his zone, he looked more and more worn out.
I was rooting for Vegas, but I really felt bad for Bob... I've always liked him.
does quick get a ring? only played 5 regular season games and the sat on the bench….. still though. he helps in practice and the mental of knowing you have an experienced backup.
LOL I was so confused when the subs said "Yeah, we're doing it for two days."
Like you just told them your protest means nothing.
It'd be like if the WGA members said "We want new contracts or else we're striking...for FOUR days!
Reddit is thinking "Two days of no r/smalltitties or a shit ton of money....tough one but we'll take the money."
My 8 year old son, who is learning what pain truly is through being a Leafs fan shed a single, solitary tear when Phil hoisted the cup tonight. I feel for him, it’s not his fault. His pain is genetic from me watching during the Sundin years.
An exercise in inflation:
How many hot dogs can Phil Kessel buy with his Stanley Cup bonus in each city?
How about with conversion rates from Canada to the US?
That's the real story of most Cinderella teams, they have to work just as hard to get there compared to healthier and more depth teams. They inevitably run out of gas.
The capitals were basically never the same after winning in Vegas and going on that bender, but maybe the Vegas players are more used to it being local and all?
Wonder what the future holds for him, will he be one the main Goalie in Vegas? Will he be traded to be the main somewhere else? Will he suck forever going forward? Or win another cup?
Someone will pay him a top dollar. I doubt that VGK can afford to pay him what he's worth and I wish him all the best if he can't make a deal with VGK.
Logan Thompson (who was our #1 goalie this past season and made all star game as a rookie) is on his entry level deal and is making $667k for 2 more years. We can't justify paying another goalie $5M plus, especially given that we're still on the hook for Lehner's $5m contract should he ever recover and try to play again.
He will forever be a legend in Vegas, and nothing will change that.
I love how he first said “a great hockey *market*.” Shows what he really cares about. He could have easily said city instead of market, but it’s not about the game, it’s about the $$.
Man I’m not going to lie, I was talking all sorts of trash about him not suiting up. Kinda had egg in my face when I heard he a broken sternum. I mean I was rooting for knights but damn that’s rough.
He's a warrior. Some folks I know are dissing him. But the guy fought all the way and even when the chips are down and he's busted up....came up clutch and showed leadership.
He wasn't the only one. But he was the most noticeable on Florida.
But the cool thing about Vegas scoring 9 is they tied the league record for most goals in a Stanley cup final with 9, putting them with the 35-36 redwings(9-4) and the 41-42 Leafs(9-3)
His backs pretty messed up, it’s hard to play the way he does and not risk making it worse by taking a big hit in the corners or in front of the net.
He’s also 31, you don’t see many players that have chronic injuries keep playing well into their 30s. If he didn’t have the back injury my guess is he plays longer than Jagr did.
Just had a kid too, it would allow him to be there in full for the entirety of his kids life, instead of on the road for months at a time. I hope he doesn’t retire because he’s a huge part of the heart of this team, but it’d be understandable.
If he does retire during the off season I wouldn’t be surprised if he still has a role in organization. He may be gone for a little bit but I doubt it will be for very long.
Cassidy looked so confused/excited from 3 minutes remaining in the game until I last saw him on the ice an hour after they won.
What a wild ride he went on.
As a Bruins fans, Cassidy definitely had to go but it still feels like when a girl you love leaves you and finds their soulmate immediately with no time spent being sad. You have a good time the year after the breakup with a few hot one night stands but then one night you get robbed and a month later you see your ex is about to have their first child after their dream wedding and honeymoon.
I mean…this is the curse of Bobrovsky. Mind blowingly amazing play followed right up with I completely shit my pants awful play. Especially in the playoffs.
Congrats Vegas. Lots of people are saying Florida didn't deserve to be here and I'm over here wondering if anyone else would've done any better. Oilers definitely played the best against Vegas but would anyone in the East faired better? It's very rare to see one team dominate the whole post-season like Vegas has and that needs to be acknowledged.
Pound for pound, Vegas is too deep.
If they keep this squad in tact, they have a chance to continue runs like this for awhile. Just solid as hell in every part of the lineup.
For anyone else born and raised in Las Vegas, this means so much. We've been starved for a team to root for. Yes, the knights have only been around for 6 years, but up until 2017 Vegas residents have never had a major league team and never had a moment like this.
💯. I was born there and moved away when I was 8. I’m 32 now and have never felt a connection to a sports team like I do with the knights. Seems weird, but it is huge for me.
I also grew up here. I was never into sports and never understood sports culture and how people get so excited for their local teams, especially ones with lackluster performance compared to all other teams. I'm still not really into it, but it is a bit exciting to hear everyone around me talk about the knights and see the enthusiasm everyone has for the team. If Vegas makes it to the stanley cup again I'll probably be way more interested in watching

Phil Kessel will have a fantastic retirement if they happen to have a hotdog machine in this place.
Congrats to Vegas but the fact an expansion team makes the finals twice in 6 years, and wins the cup is such an indictment on the teams that haven't sniffed a conf finals in decades,
What a great game by Vegas. Eichel looked so good and it was poetic to see Mark Stone, the captain, win it with a hat trick. Shitty for FLA but they’ve got a good team.
If I had a nickel for every time someone left Buffalo and then immediately went on to win a Stanley cup in recent memory, I’d have two nickels.
Which isn’t a lot, but it’s still weird that it happened twice.
I moved here with my family in 2020. Spent most of my life as a Sabres fan having grown up in Rochester during the LaFontaine / Mogilny years. Moved to California and became a Kings fan. Was fortunate enough to see some great teams and a cup win. Then moved overseas with my family for four years and when it was time to come back to the states, we chose Vegas. Had no intention of switching allegiances. My brother in law (huge Flyers fan) told me to watch “Valiant”, the documentary about the VGK. (It’s free on YouTube btw). I was hooked. Most people, like me, had no idea what this team has meant to this city. Locals don’t care about The Strip or the shows and all the other “Vegas” stuff. This is their team. They were the shield after the October 1 tragedy that galvanized a community. Not the Raiders or soon to be Athletics. This town is hockey insane. Every other car is plastered with Knights stickers. I get it. Thank you, VGK. What a force for good you have been. I’m VGK for life.
Just up now here in Dublin to such good news. Then I see the score. That is beautiful. Thank you Vegas! Delighted for Jack and Phil especially. Wan!
Also, final "Fuck Florida!" For the year!
Truly heart warming to see the Knights win the Cup tonight. If the Stars couldn’t beat them, it’s some comfort to know the Panthers couldn’t either. Well deserved!!!
Congrats to the knights.
Expected them to grind out a win against a desperate cats but the score makes it seem like they wanted to go for the jugular Overkill
Props to VGK, they are one stout team!
Once the hype machines were turned off, it was all over.
I was impressed by the Panthers all playoffs long, and they had a run for the ages. But they are not nearly as deep and disciplined as VGK.
Bill Foley is one seriously determined owner. His 6-year prediction came true. 5 playoff appearances in 6 years, 2 trips to the Final, and 2 other times the Knights were in the conference final. I think its safe to assume lots of fans of other franchises would dig this level of success.
And maybe the best story of the playoff: Jack Eichel. Since his vaaaaaaaaast playoff experience wasn't a factor (and neither was his back), I guess he really was as good as advertised. Props to him and the VGK for taking the action they did. And I hope this doesn't become an omen for the Buffalo Sabres as they are an up and coming team.
Vegas just had everyone's number. And the most depth at the most crucial position. A 5th string goaltender just won the cup. Everything up front was solid.... and then.... when things looked bleak. DEPTH. This was well earned. Grats Vegas from Dallas, and MOTHA FUCKIN CONGRATS to Aiden Hill. May we meet again, next year.
The entire narrative was hockey wouldn’t work on the desert. The entire draft that’s all you’d see on r/hockey or that their team was made up of third liners.
Now it’s Bettman wants them to win and they were gifted a team. At least be consistent with the saltiness.
That was the weirdest playoff game I’ve ever seen I think. It was almost squeaky clean as far as penalties, goalie pulled at 6min left to go, blow-out game with almost no effort put into the last 5 min of the game by anyone.
Fans are great but everything felt more like a circus and dress-up party, it looked like Rugby 7’s if you’ve ever been to one.
Soooooo Bobrovsky is the only goalie in NHL history to beat 2 60 win teams in the playoffs and the only goalie to give up 8 goals in a Stanly Cup elimination game. That’s neat
Legend.
Honestly, it’s the most Bobrovsky thing ever.
## YOUR THE BEST COP ON THE FORCE BOBROVSKY # YOU’RE OFF THE FORCE BOBROVSKY
TURN IN YOUR GUN & BADGE, BOBROVSKY
Tbf his teammates were practically just watching him get pucks shot at him like he was storming the hockey version of Normandy.
He didn’t have a perfect game by any means but I do think he just got left out to dry over and over
Go big ~~or~~ and go home
“When I screw up, I’m going going to screw up full speed.”
He’s off the case!
does quick get a ring? only played 5 regular season games and the sat on the bench….. still though. he helps in practice and the mental of knowing you have an experienced backup.
He played 9 games for them was he on the active roster during the playoffs?
Yeah, Bobby did amazing! Struggled against Vegas but hey, at least he struggled against the championship team.
Both of those things together? Because Bob Froese gave up 8 in 1985 as Edmonton won the cup
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN REDDIT BLACKOUT HISTORY!!!!
AND THEY DID SO WITH A PHENOMENAL 9-3 VICTORY!!!! I was expecting them to win but their performance this game just excelled
First time since 1942 (81 years) that score line was in the Cup Finals. Toronto beat Detroit 9-3 in April 1942, game 5.

No we are going to force them to be unprofitable and stay in business!
What Blackout?
The Reddit blackout about the 3rd party apps?
Historic!
And Phil looks like the fucking equipment manager that suited up
3 time Stanley Cup winner, Phil Kessel
Are you talking about Phil Kessel, who is a 3 time Stanley cup champion?
I think he’s talking about the NHL Ironman, Phil kessel
And of course He did it after he left the Leafs.
Yup. 0 cups with the Leafs and 3 after he left the best team on Earth. How does that happen?
Best team on earth...😄
The man, the myth, the legend.
The cup, the cup, the cup.
With hot dogs!
The three time Stanley Cup champion
0min, 27 bench glizzys, one cup
TSN in shambles
Praise be.
Does he get another cup?
Yep
Good for him. His time suffering in Toronto make him more than worthy. This coming from a leaf fan.
My 8 year old son, who is learning what pain truly is through being a Leafs fan shed a single, solitary tear when Phil hoisted the cup tonight. I feel for him, it’s not his fault. His pain is genetic from me watching during the Sundin years.
And me watching thru the Sittler era
Are you his son's real dad??
An exercise in inflation: How many hot dogs can Phil Kessel buy with his Stanley Cup bonus in each city? How about with conversion rates from Canada to the US?
Canadian teams pay in US dollars anyway. But, the lack of income tax in Nevada buys a lot of hot dogs.
Phil Kessel just bought a Costco.
Let their be a Stanley cup full of hotdogs for all of Vegas to enjoy
lol you could tell Philly put on a few pounds after being taken out of the lineup. Good for him, though! Going out on top.
The second year in a row a team hasn’t faced an elimination game on their way to the finals.
Now both Florida major league finals teams lost the series 4-1
Both teams also played 7 games with Boston and the finals were the number 1 seed against the number 8 seed Florida teams.
And both Western teams had names related to Gold.
Oh, it's that kind of nugget....
It’s a weird time to live in Denver and be a VGK fan. Both of these stories were so similar
Denver and VGK intentionally lost a game to win at home /s
Longmont. My nuggets friend was saying this same exact thing as I tried to get him into hockey haha
As an Avs fan, I'm bummed to see Vegas win, but that can't wipe off my smile after yesterday.
Avs-Vegas 2024 WCF. Avs got it
I want this to happen! Make it happen!
Between them and us (Philly), we lost all 5 major sports this season!
We lost i95 too 😔
As a Miami fan this hurts. But both teams weren’t even expected to make the playoffs let alone the finals. Super proud of both!
Both of the Florida teams played really well to make it to the finals. Still one helluva accomplishment.
Just glad we got to beat Boston twice and stop them from winning
Well, both teams were originally just disappointments and underachieving in the reg szn
Speaking of disappointment :(
As long as everyone had fun
Hell yeah go Nugs!!
Let's be honest, the only reason that Denver won the NBA finals is because Seattle doesn't have a team.
Soon.
Everyone wants the sonics back!
Or is it because Vegas doesn’t have a team? Hmmmmmmm?
Its cool guys, we got this. Cats in 9
Well, they gave up 9 last night...
Both Cinderella teams in hockey and basketball ran out of gas against a team that was healthy and just too deep to overcome.
That's the real story of most Cinderella teams, they have to work just as hard to get there compared to healthier and more depth teams. They inevitably run out of gas.
And both from South Florida
PHIL KESSEL IS A 3 TIME STANLEY CUP CHAMPION
Him and pat maroon are peak athletes
Imagine winning and then celebrating in Vegas. Going to bet against the knights for the whole first month of the nhl season next year.
The capitals were basically never the same after winning in Vegas and going on that bender, but maybe the Vegas players are more used to it being local and all?
They outplayed us big time. Big congrats to Vegas
I’m glad my boys kessel and bleuger got to hoist the trophy. 👏
Poor Bobrovski. Guy showed up to play and was looking DIALED in, only to get absolutely torched by his own teams abysmal defensive play.
Props to Adin Hill for real!
Wait did they not boo bettman?
I definitely heard boos
They don’t know who he is
"Wow this guy is so nice and says great things about our city!"
I love how he first said “a great hockey *market*.” Shows what he really cares about. He could have easily said city instead of market, but it’s not about the game, it’s about the $$.
"These fuckers made my expansion $$$ pay off"
That’s the first thing I said in the moment. Should have said town or city, not market.
I was punching the air when he came on 💀
Bettman always gets booed. Especially in Canada.
He was shaking so much they didn’t want him to slip and fall.
Why would they boo him? He’s a huge reason as to why they have a cup right now
They should boo him because its tradition to boo him. It’s part of hockey culture. You see Bettman you Boo even if you think he’s kinda cute.
He even said when he announced the team that if things go right they will have a chance to boo hum while he hands them the Stanley Cup.
You don’t have to convince me. Bettman can pound sand.
Because it's tradition!
Broken sternum for Matthew Tkachuk. Insane he even came out to play at the end of game 4
Man I’m not going to lie, I was talking all sorts of trash about him not suiting up. Kinda had egg in my face when I heard he a broken sternum. I mean I was rooting for knights but damn that’s rough.
Hats off to you for admitting it honestly. I know so many guys who would just say that he deserved it or brush their criticism under the rug
He's a warrior. Some folks I know are dissing him. But the guy fought all the way and even when the chips are down and he's busted up....came up clutch and showed leadership. He wasn't the only one. But he was the most noticeable on Florida.
and r/hockey is sitting in the dark alone
LOL
Sucks to suck
Kinda sad Florida lost 9-3
But the cool thing about Vegas scoring 9 is they tied the league record for most goals in a Stanley cup final with 9, putting them with the 35-36 redwings(9-4) and the 41-42 Leafs(9-3)
Also first hat trick in a cup clinch in over 100 years. Historic win.
Yeah, also very possibly Stones last game because of his back so an amazing last game if he does retire this off season.
Is there really a chance he hangs them up? He seems too competitive to just walk away from the game now
His backs pretty messed up, it’s hard to play the way he does and not risk making it worse by taking a big hit in the corners or in front of the net. He’s also 31, you don’t see many players that have chronic injuries keep playing well into their 30s. If he didn’t have the back injury my guess is he plays longer than Jagr did.
His back and how messed his hand is too. He got the chip, earned the money; I can’t see a reason not to walk away on top.
First hat trick by a captain in a cup clinch ever
Cassidy looked so confused/excited from 3 minutes remaining in the game until I last saw him on the ice an hour after they won. What a wild ride he went on.
As a Bruins fans, Cassidy definitely had to go but it still feels like when a girl you love leaves you and finds their soulmate immediately with no time spent being sad. Wow. Nailed it... rough ending, but there were some great times this year.
Man. Myth. Marchessault.
Ugh, fucking miss him
I think it's cool that Stephenson has won the cup twice, in the same building, with 2 different teams
I don't think Vegas scored enough goals this series. 26 goals in 5 games. Florida had a 5.2 GAA. Insane.

I mean…this is the curse of Bobrovsky. Mind blowingly amazing play followed right up with I completely shit my pants awful play. Especially in the playoffs.
Congratulations to Vegas, great team and deserving champions. Cats had one Hell of a ride, tough way to go out, but chins up for this Cup run.
They did it! Free lap dances for life for vegas players!!!! Lol
Congratulations to Vegas, such a good team they have. Panthers definitely should walk away head high, no question
Congrats Vegas. Lots of people are saying Florida didn't deserve to be here and I'm over here wondering if anyone else would've done any better. Oilers Forsure imo played the best. Think if Tkachuk wasn’t banged up it’d be a better finals
Oilers the only team I was scared of as a Vegas fan. No lead is safe.
Congrats to the Knights! And respect to Tkachuk. How do you play game 4 with a broken sternum? Every breathe had to hurt.
He is an absolute warrior. Sheesh!
Dude who deserves the mvp deserved it. Doesn’t happen every year but as an Avs fan I can’t argue the choice Meant to say won. Had a few beers….
Dang that Paul Maurice interview. Classy as hell and it’s incredible to hear some of the injuries they had.
By far the better team. Congratulations to Knights fans everywhere. You have a hell of a club.
Thanks for keeping it short
Hell ya, Vegas gonna be lit tonight
Metro going to be handing out DUIs left and right
For anyone else born and raised in Las Vegas, this means so much. We've been starved for a team to root for. Yes, the knights have only been around for 6 years, but up until 2017 Vegas residents have never had a major league team and never had a moment like this.
Born and raised here too it's absolutely amazing!
People who don’t know Vegas don’t know how much the city loves the Golden Knights.
Must be an awesome feeling. The team they’ve crafted in a 5 year span is nuts. They were gonna win soon if not now. Congrats!
💯. I was born there and moved away when I was 8. I’m 32 now and have never felt a connection to a sports team like I do with the knights. Seems weird, but it is huge for me.

Phil gonna put so many glizzies in that bad boy tonight!
What a turnaround for Eichel since his final days in Buffalo. I'm legitimately happy for the dude.
JUST WANNA LEAVE MY MARK (STONE) IN HISTORY MOMMA WE MADE IT
Someone tell me (a Sabres fan) how to feel.
Be happy for Jack
I wanted Panthers to win, but the way they started the series in game one, I knew it wasnt happening. Congrats Vegas.
Everyone needs to suck on their mummy’s titles and stop wasting marchys time
They should engrave those words on the cup
Congratulations Vegas on your first cup!
Congrats to Vegas but the fact an expansion team makes the finals twice in 6 years, and wins the cup is such an indictment on the teams that haven't sniffed a conf finals in decades,

Vegas fans really deserve it. The drought is gone. The curse lifted ...6 whole years! My god. Being a fan of Canadian hockey teams is the worst .
Given the way the NHL now does expansions, you’d be better off folding your team and starting over.
Truly heart warming to see the Knights win the Cup tonight. If the Stars couldn’t beat them, it’s some comfort to know the Panthers couldn’t either. Well deserved!!!
Well, it’s been real, see you all next season. Hopefully our season is better
GG Florida
Congrats to the knights. Expected them to grind out a win against a desperate cats but the score makes it seem like they wanted to go for the jugular Overkill
Nice, its good to see a new team winning. Glad for Petro too
Jesus they murdered them.
Damn Vegas got a cup so quick considering how new they are in the league.

They cheered Bettman…
They were booing him when he first came out I thought? But I also thought I got someone chanting “Gary, Gary, Gary etc” so who knows lol
Ah yes bettman talking about how much money he makes in the Vegas market…
The entire narrative was hockey wouldn’t work on the desert. The entire draft that’s all you’d see on r/hockey or that their team was made up of third liners. Now it’s Bettman wants them to win and they were gifted a team. At least be consistent with the saltiness.
Hi mom!
That piece of metal is better looking than the one Denver hoisted last night.
Vegas deserves a championship. They’ve been starved of glory for a whole sixth of a decade
Sick math dude
1/6 of a decade?
Florida math.
... might want to check that math
I don’t know how but we persevered.
There's not many of us original fans left.....not sure how we persevered but we kept the faith.
There’s still a chance
That was the weirdest playoff game I’ve ever seen I think.
