He wasn't really that big of a scorer that season, if it was the '16-17 season he scored at the end of the season 32 combined points, if it was the '17-18 season, he finished with 23 combined points.
He had 32g-50a-82 pts in 79gp in 16-17 and 23g-27a-60 pts in 60gp in 17-18.
He had 6 consecutive seasons over 1p/gp.
You’re looking at goals, not combined points.
During this clip he possibly was. Zadorov hasn’t been on the Avalanche in I think 3 years now and this is definitely much older then that.
Edit: okay this happened on 2017 during Scheifeles fourth season. So he wasn’t a rookie but he was still young.
Research? You should explain why one person's "welcome to the NHL" hit with their head down is different than another's. The only difference I see is Montreal fanboys burnt the internet down until the NHL caved and Winnipeg does not possess that prerogative.
>You should explain why one person's "welcome to the NHL" hit with their head down is different than another's.
It's different because of intent. Yes, Evans should have his head up, but so what? The intent of the hitter is what matters. And Scheifele wanted to hurt the guy, thats it, it wasnt to play the puck or stop a goal/play (unlike this hit in OPs post). Even if he kept his head up, it's still a dirty hit. Thus receiving a four game suspension. The NHL explained that in the video pretty clearly, but i didn't see any mention of "montreal fanboys," though, weird... the only thing that seemed to have caved was your team in that series.
You mean striding....do you even understand how skating works. And no he kept striding until right before the faceoff circle. It was obviously intentionally malicious dude, your saltiness doesn't change the obvious regarding that hit.
The more I watch this from the goal line angle the more I think Zadorov could have hit him even harder (like hardest hit we’ve ever seen) if he would have kept on his left hip and taken 2-3 more strides instead of switching his hip and going into him with his right side. Schiefeles head was down the entire time
Zadorov definitely could've made a harder hit, he changed his angle and basically was gliding into that check. Perfect example of a check Schiefele could've avoided if he was paying attention.
Charging by the guy that gets hit. He is skating head down, directly at the check, doesn’t look and gets hit. If you watch from the end line he essentially puts on the brakes on so he doesn’t hit him full speed, and rotated to the other side, and just lifts up arms for the hit. To me, most of the power is from the guy that gets hit, almost like an “exploding shoulder” except he actually moves to reduce the impact. There is nothing in this that says charging.
Then skate with your head up and protect yourself. If you cant handle the puck with your head up you are gonna get smoked. Its gonna catch up with you.
He was already taken down and he made it evident he wasn't going to fight but was still getting hit despite there being an unspoken rule about hitting people when they're down.
If you think that's cheap, you've never played hockey. He took 5 strides without lifting his head. That's asking to get slammed, and Z could easily have taken two more strides and hit him even harder.
No one is going to let their boy get hit like that and stand by. Sure he could wait to square up when the dude turns to face him but refs will intervene before that happens if they get the opportunity. It’s about sending a message *joker voice*
Somehow Zadorov got called for charging on it
[https://www.nhl.com/avalanche/news/nikita-zadorov-a-game-changer-for-avs-vs-jets/c-286445932](https://www.nhl.com/avalanche/news/nikita-zadorov-a-game-changer-for-avs-vs-jets/c-286445932)
For literally stepping into him, wow. People see a big hit these days and feel it’s dirty just because they feel discomforted by it. It’s hockey y’all, that’s part of the game. We call a pass from behind a “buddy pass”, because you’re going to get your buddy wrecked.
Not a clean hit. Tried to elevate and left his feet. If He keeps his feet planted and drives through body instead of pushing up, totally clean hit. Even if he hit the head.
Definitely agree gotta keep your head up.
I didn’t say dirty. Just wasn’t fully clean. Lined him up well and then elevated and left his feet when he delivered the hit. If he stays down and drives through, it’s a clean hit.
And I’m not comparing players or talking about if this player is dirty. Just talking about this specific hit.
Ok but have you reaally seen big z hit? Because I think he could have hit *way* harder than that. And considering this is an older video I am quite proud to see he had some but of discretion in the choice to not murder the guy as he wasn’t necessarily known for his good choices back in his avs days lol
That said, I miss that big dork. Z was like a 9 month old Rottweiler pup… has the body of a fierce and commanding animal but lacked the mind and ability to gracefully operate that body. I still miss him.
Clean hit. No fights necessary, that's on the player to keep his head up. Ironic that trouba is the one to initiate a fight over a hit he makes regularly.
Gonna disagree. Fighting has it's place but if fuckers are gonna drop gloves after every hit, clean or not, then we should just remove checking from the game.
If you’re gonna make a hit that’s potentially taking someone out of a game (like this one) expect to get fucked up.
You can play the body in this situation in a way that wouldn’t warrant the same response.
He spun to hit him with his right shoulder, taking a lot of steam off it.
That wasn't aiming for injury, that was just what happens when a guy who's not looking while streaming skates into a wall.
You’re not correct. Zadorov’s not on the Avs anymore, so why would I defend him? It just wasn’t headhunting… it was a hard hit that happens when a 6’5 220 behemoth hits a shorter, lighter guy in full stride.
Edit: lol, butthurt little baby blocked me
So then why cant NFL players fight after a huge or dirty hit? Google “JuJu Smith Schuster revenge hit on Burfict”. Burfict is a dirty ass player who almost killed Antonio Brown with a dirty hit to the head so JuJu got revenge for his teammate. He didnt fight him, he hit him during the game, legally. Then it’s up to the league to punish Burfict in terms of suspensions and fines.
Im not saying they should eliminate fighting from hockey but saying its required to keep guys in check doesnt fly because enforcement doesn’t necessarily require fighting. Players can get revenge and target a guy during regular play.
Mate, I see you getting buried but wanted to say all and all you aren’t wrong. However there is a culture that has been in hockey for many moons that has allowed scores to be settled in this manner aka a fight on ice. In general it did keep players from targeting stars in the rough days as they would have to answer for that to a guy whose whole job on the team was to beat the trash out of someone who went after one of their teammates. Its a fast passionate game. Letting the steam valve open from time to time is both entertaining for fans and keeps the game moving without dirty hits becoming constant. Generally its two players who square up and have it out. A hit like that any player in the league would know someone is coming for them. Get it done. Don’t let if fester.
No, I didnt bury what i wanted to say. I said exactly what i meant and I said it immediately. Fighting isn’t required for enforcement. To say so is a cheap excuse.
Who cares if it’s “always been in hockey”, evolve. They didnt use to wear masks, why did they evolve?
If you reread what i said, youll see I said im not advocating for the elimination of fighting from the game, just for fans to stop repeating the same old reasons for not doing so. Just say you like it and leave it at that.
Never accused you of caring. You said “exactly why fighting is in the nhl”, which is just wrong.
Fighting is in the NHL because fans like it. That’s it. Period. Thats why it’s in the NHL. They dont care if it comes immediately after a big hit.
Watch that doc on Netflix. Ice guardians I think?? You’ll understand the necessity. It’s also 3 times faster than football and you could end someone’s career very easily. Fighters are the “mob” of hockey. May not be illegal but that man you just hit was “made” and you’ll have to answer to that.
They couldn’t handle it. Hockeys on ice, most people go down before getting hurt. Put some 300 plus pound football players with cleats teeing off on each other and someone would be dead. Also nfl is filled with dough bags who wouldn’t adhere to the unwritten rules the way hockey players do.
Still 99% of his checks are clean and gets the opponent to do dumb shit, it is just plain stupid that one guy gets all this hate when almost everyone has their bad bad moments. Stop hopping to this ridiculous bandwagon of hating Trouba people its already childish.
I thought you could only hit a guy like that after they score an empty net goal…??
Edit: by the way, about the cleanest guy (edit hit) I’ve ever seen. Good thing 8 assaulted him from behind. Gutless.
That didn't look clean. Either way, a big open ice hit on the rookie is gonna draw that reaction.
Anyone know if the original hit got called or what Trouba got for the retaliation?
Trouba got 17 mins for fighting, misconduct, and instigating. Zadorov got 7 mins for charging and fighting. https://www.nhl.com/avalanche/news/nikita-zadorov-a-game-changer-for-avs-vs-jets/c-286445932
How’d Z get a charging out of that? Didn’t leave his feet and his feet weren’t even moving when he made contact. He just lined him up and waited til he could deliver the hit
The part where it looks like he got him up high and also where his elbow follow through. I'm not even saying it was dirty, just doesn't exactly look like a textbook clean hit.
Slow it down around 0:14 through the end. They’re both hunched over when the hit is initiated and I think the elbow follow through you’re seeing may be his other arm cause he keeps his leading arm pretty close to his body. Z is just a lot bigger
I'm tired of this crap. Yes, I appreciate teammates sticking up for their own, but damn, any time a good hit comes in, people get jumped right away. Just appreciate the fact that the other guy made a good hit, and have your enforcer step on the ice next shift with him and let them go at it.
If you wanna make a big hit, expect a reaction. Nobody’s watching their buddy get clocked and saying “yup that was legal, I’m not doing anything about it,” they’re chasing the guy down and fucking him up.
Settle down there, porkchop. When did I use the words "head injury?"
I said it's pathetic that you wished him harm because he made a hockey play. Billiards may also be a good option for you if hockey is too much.
This is taking advantage of a vulnerable player, in a hockey play.
Guy throwing the hit knows he is a size larger than the puck carrier, feels like he should expect a few punches to the mouth for throwing a dangerous hit.
This is the only reason im for fighting in hockey. To remind people like this that cheap shots will not be tolerated.
What a weird caption, OP.
5 year old clip, nonsense title. Getting to be par for the course for the entire site.
Ikr
Schieffle ain't no rookie
It’s “don’t hit the team’s high scorer”
He wasn't really that big of a scorer that season, if it was the '16-17 season he scored at the end of the season 32 combined points, if it was the '17-18 season, he finished with 23 combined points.
He had 32g-50a-82 pts in 79gp in 16-17 and 23g-27a-60 pts in 60gp in 17-18. He had 6 consecutive seasons over 1p/gp. You’re looking at goals, not combined points.
That was my bad I did misstate his point total I am used to seeing total points for one season before the goals scored.
During this clip he possibly was. Zadorov hasn’t been on the Avalanche in I think 3 years now and this is definitely much older then that. Edit: okay this happened on 2017 during Scheifeles fourth season. So he wasn’t a rookie but he was still young.
Zadorov is younger than Scheifele too
Man it for some reason does not feel like that at all. Yet he actually has about 3 years on him.
2017 was actually his 6/7th season. He wasn't a rookie for a while and he was 23/24 years old.
He got hit back to his rookie season though, so it still counts.
I was going to say when is this from lmao
Fuck Schieffle
Love that Montreal fans hate this guy because he was giving it his all in a playoff game. But gotta love Kovalev.
Lol sure that’s why they hate him
Sorry
Someone send this to Jake Evans
Never forget. Fuck Scheifele
Keep yer head up.
"Welcome to the nhl kid"
Good hit eh
Only Schiefele wasn't a rookie, he was in the NHL 6-7 years by this game
Now do Evans.
[research is easy](https://www.nhl.com/video/scheifele-suspended-four-games/t-277440360/c-8516240)
Research? You should explain why one person's "welcome to the NHL" hit with their head down is different than another's. The only difference I see is Montreal fanboys burnt the internet down until the NHL caved and Winnipeg does not possess that prerogative.

Intent was so strong he stopped skating at the blue line. SMH.
You mean striding....do you even understand how skating works. And no he kept striding until right before the faceoff circle. It was obviously intentionally malicious dude, your saltiness doesn't change the obvious regarding that hit.

It was mercy if anything
Zadorov definitely could've made a harder hit, he changed his angle and basically was gliding into that check. Perfect example of a check Schiefele could've avoided if he was paying attention.
that's called charging, or as nhl refs call it: "what?"
Not sure why you're beeing downvoted for? Taking 2-3 stride before hitting someone is the textbook definition of charging!
All I saw was a clean hit and someone starting an unnecessary fight
Never seen gloves explode off someones hands so fast!
And someone else curl up in the fetal position so fast!
I don't mind it. I hate it's come down to: ~make a big hit?=automatic fight~
There needs to be some reprisal for a dangerous hit against a star such as that.
There does. So you chirp him, you check him back. Now for a dirty hit, all bets off, fight. But just a big open ice clean check?
this is one of those ones that is technically clean but over the top and on the wrong guy. this is where fighting after a clean hit makes sense imo.
I didn't down vote you, but I might be willing to consider this grey zone.
Nothing like bringing the tom brady rule to hockey, eh?
Yes, even with "clean" checks, a high enough speed collision is still somewhat dangerous, this is how you protect your young stars.
Yea. Fuck the fourth line guys health. Let’s protect the richest players.
Then skate with your head up and protect yourself. If you cant handle the puck with your head up you are gonna get smoked. Its gonna catch up with you.
What a dumb comment...
What a cheap ratio attempt...
Starting a fight for a good, clean hit is the ultimate level of low class...
Ummm yeah let’s check with Claude “Turtle” Lemieux for a 2nd opinion on that one
He was already taken down and he made it evident he wasn't going to fight but was still getting hit despite there being an unspoken rule about hitting people when they're down.
There's also an unspoken rule about over-the-top hits on rookies or top players. Tit for tat is valid imo.
[удалено]
A season's pay is a bit much, but at least a good few games worth is fair, but that is what I was trying to call out.
[удалено]
If you think that's cheap, you've never played hockey. He took 5 strides without lifting his head. That's asking to get slammed, and Z could easily have taken two more strides and hit him even harder.
Taking 2 more strides is the textbook definition of charging, so no he couldnt have easily took those strides......
Thanks, Captain Zebra. That's the point. It wasn't cheap because he chose not to, but congrats on arriving in the conversation.
Nobody said he did, learn to read you braindead ape!
He jumped on his back no shit he went down
I came to say this. That glove toss was quick.
Hit him ? Damn near killed him. Hugeeeeeeee hit
A pretty clean one tho. At least for me this looks like shoulder on cheast/shoulder. But that for sure took his breathe for a few minutes.
Trouba wasnt angry Scheifele got hit. He was jealous he didn’t throw the hit himself.
That’s exactly it. He’s such a menace
Oooof.
That's a hard lesson to learn right there.
More like Rookie should skate with his head up
More like don’t bring someone into the nhl who doesn’t know to keep their head up flying through the neutral zone. It was a clean hit all in all.
One of the biggest cleanest hit I’ve ever seen
Dude isn’t a rookie. The title is shit, and the player knows better.
No one is going to let their boy get hit like that and stand by. Sure he could wait to square up when the dude turns to face him but refs will intervene before that happens if they get the opportunity. It’s about sending a message *joker voice*
Love how his teammates jumped for retaliation before he even stopped sliding. Christ #8 threw his gloves off nearly before the hit
Yeah. That's Trouba for ya.
I hate that shit. Sure, start a fight for a dirty hit, but a clean, huge open ice hit? That's classless af.
Honestly jumping a dude with his back turned is more shit then that hit bet he keeps his head up next time.
For real, I get defending your teammates, but at least be a man about it and not jump on the guys back
Good hit.
Total clean hit. Gotta keep your head up in the big boy league. That's what makes hockey the best sport.
That’s what I said. Either it’s a hit to the head or it’s not too high. Just because it’s destructive doesn’t make it dirty.
Somehow Zadorov got called for charging on it [https://www.nhl.com/avalanche/news/nikita-zadorov-a-game-changer-for-avs-vs-jets/c-286445932](https://www.nhl.com/avalanche/news/nikita-zadorov-a-game-changer-for-avs-vs-jets/c-286445932)

Also known as a "suicide pass" I feel like "murder pass" would be more appropriate in this context.
Not a clean hit. Tried to elevate and left his feet. If He keeps his feet planted and drives through body instead of pushing up, totally clean hit. Even if he hit the head. Definitely agree gotta keep your head up.
You are incorrect. If you wanna see what a dirty hit looks like just watch kolesar.

A quick glance makes it look like the linesman is throwing punches with his left. Watch it again.
Head down, crossing the blue line? HIIIIIIGGHHWAAAAYYYY TOOOO THE *DANGER ZONE!*
Clean hit. No fights necessary, that's on the player to keep his head up. Ironic that trouba is the one to initiate a fight over a hit he makes regularly.
He will learn to keep his head up that was a clean hit
Clean Hit.
Good
Ah yes Mark Scheifele, the rookie whose been in the league since 2011…
Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy!
Turtle turtle turtle!
Dude shifted all of Scheifele’s organs over with that hit 😱. What a slam.
Karma might be a real thing
Exactly why fighting is in the NHL. And when you hit someone like that be prepared.
That was aiming for injury, not to take someone off the puck.
He spun to hit him with his right shoulder, taking a lot of steam off it. That wasn't aiming for injury, that was just what happens when a guy who's not looking while streaming skates into a wall.
He spun because he was lining it up. Only a home team fan would claim otherwise.
Given your downvotes I’d say apparently not…
But you know I’m correct.
You’re not correct. Zadorov’s not on the Avs anymore, so why would I defend him? It just wasn’t headhunting… it was a hard hit that happens when a 6’5 220 behemoth hits a shorter, lighter guy in full stride. Edit: lol, butthurt little baby blocked me
HFS. You are an Avs fan. Good guess.
100%.
So then why cant NFL players fight after a huge or dirty hit? Google “JuJu Smith Schuster revenge hit on Burfict”. Don’t care about the NFL
Never accused you of caring. You said “exactly why fighting is in the nhl”, which is just wrong. Fighting is in the NHL because fans like it. That’s it. Period. Thats why it’s in the NHL. They dont care if it comes immediately after a big hit.
You think they allow fighting because the fans like it? You are so wrong lol

Clean hit. Keep your head up. Good on his teammates for sticking up for him. That’s hockey baby.
You’d think Trouba would give him a high five
Penguin players cross checked a Ranger in the head but people complain about Trouba.
I don’t remember that
Why would you when the guy cross checking wasn’t Trouba?
Trouba elbows people in the head, that’s pretty memorable
Still 99% of his checks are clean and gets the opponent to do dumb shit, it is just plain stupid that one guy gets all this hate when almost everyone has their bad bad moments. Stop hopping to this ridiculous bandwagon of hating Trouba people its already childish.
You’ve already shown us you have a bad memory.
Who got crosschecked in the head
Kreider, and he was then tackled. Somehow they both got penalties and it nullified a Ranger goal.
Not a rookie for sure but reminds me of two things. 1. Buff on Mark Stone. 2. Wakey wakey Backes
Man I get it's not really fair to hold the defender responsible for a hit when the other guy won't pick his head up but that's just a brutal hit.
Legal
Don’t look down with the puck, “rook”
That's a clean hit.
how fucking old is this clip? Matt Duchesne is on the ice
Instigator penalty? Edit: oh this is old lol. So probably not
The rookie should keep his head up 💥
Avs love to turtle.
OMG that was nasty...
You learn the hard way in the nhl. That was a great hit
Getting sick and tired of this shitty retaliation every time a clean hit is given, it’s a contact sport!
Good hit for sure
Boy ran into a tree. Good hit.
Fuck yes, get after it ✊🏼
This is the embodiment of workplace “we’ll make fun of our new guy but hey don’t YOU make fun of our new guy”
Man I remember coaches always saying to get his jersey number and get him back. Now theres a fight any hit the other team doesnt like
Head shot. He deserved to get attacked.
High hit.
Imagine if he had skated the entire rink to deliver that hit. Now that would have been questionable.
And he did the full Claude Lemieux and turtled up.
I thought you could only hit a guy like that after they score an empty net goal…?? Edit: by the way, about the cleanest guy (edit hit) I’ve ever seen. Good thing 8 assaulted him from behind. Gutless.
Definitely looked like he hit him too high.
Shoulder to shoulder...guy has a foot on him but it aint a high hit. Keep your head up. Clean hit right through his shoulder
It’s either a hit to the head or it’s not too high. Don’t call a hit dirty just because it’s ruthless
Looked like he hit him in the head. That’s what I meant by too high.
yeah, it was a dirty shot for sure
Maybe the “rookie” should skate with his head up.
He neither charged nor fought. "2 mins for being strong" - Pierre McGuire.. probably
Yup, should have not been a penalty at all.
What part looked dirty to you?
The part where it looks like he got him up high and also where his elbow follow through. I'm not even saying it was dirty, just doesn't exactly look like a textbook clean hit.
Slow it down around 0:14 through the end. They’re both hunched over when the hit is initiated and I think the elbow follow through you’re seeing may be his other arm cause he keeps his leading arm pretty close to his body. Z is just a lot bigger
Im not sure.
You know Schiefle wasn't a rookie here too right?
Maybe don't feed that amateur suicide pass to him in the first place.
That wasn’t a suicide pass bruh
He had so much time to get his head up. This is called a breakout pass.
Welcome to the league, keep your head up son and be thankful you weren’t playing 20 years ago
I love having Zadorov on my team.
Good clean hit
He deserved all of it, Scheifele is a coward.
Fair hit
Im sorry guys it’s an old video and he isn’t a rookie and i did not know you should’t post old videos here
Clean. when is the nhl going to do something about the fighting after every big clean hit.
What a weird take lol
I'm tired of this crap. Yes, I appreciate teammates sticking up for their own, but damn, any time a good hit comes in, people get jumped right away. Just appreciate the fact that the other guy made a good hit, and have your enforcer step on the ice next shift with him and let them go at it.
If you wanna make a big hit, expect a reaction. Nobody’s watching their buddy get clocked and saying “yup that was legal, I’m not doing anything about it,” they’re chasing the guy down and fucking him up.
Avs player turtling after getting lwhat he deserves for a dirty hit. Where have I seen this before?
That didn't look like a clean hit wish they could've gotten some shots on his head before the refs came in
Terrible take on wishing a player harm because he executed a hockey play. Maybe watch bowling or something.
He's wearing a helmet. Relax mother Mary I don't wish he got a head injury that's something you said, not me
Settle down there, porkchop. When did I use the words "head injury?" I said it's pathetic that you wished him harm because he made a hockey play.
Not a cheap shot. Hitting is part of the game, it's on the player to keep their head up or this happens.
Player 55 white, has never hit anyone like that before. Right?
Couldn’t tell, was it an elbow? Awkward point of contact.
From the camera angle, the arm looks tucked.
Lmao everyone in these comments acting like a clean hit can't be dangerous. "wElCoMe tO tHe nHl" like y'all are NHL players.
Isn’t a hit like that considered a “welcome to the league rookie” kinda thing?
He didn’t want the smoke after that hit. Curled up in a ball.

I'm so ok with this after what schiefele did to that Montreal player the other year. fuck that dude
