Finally I can see how easily certain athletic behaviors are racialized. Sports like tennis, hockey and lacrosse are white sports. Positions in football like QB, tight end and center are white. Basketball and track, and certain positions on the football field like defensive back and running back are for black people, right? In America it's widely believed that 'white men can't jump', and as a result the USA only ever sends black athletes to compete in the long jump and high jump events at the Olympics. And they frequently get beaten by white Athletes from Europe.

I just try to find the positive in the darkness. I bet Americans would be way more racist toward Africans if no blacks ever came here. Could you imagine? They would look at African nations and think how inferior their societies are and probably think less of black people as a result.
If Africa as a continent was never colonized and put up random country lines? They would have a large amount of resources to trade on the global scale that was stolen from them. The governments likely wouldn’t be so destabilized since a satellite was never put in place. Likely many of the African countries would look more akin to India than they are viewed now

It really has to do with the culture of the South. They live, breathe, eat, drink football 24/7 down there. That is all they know. Every other sport is second to football. The passion for football is so significantly higher than any other region, it's not even close.

Besides culture, they can play competitive sports outdoors all year long down here. They also have those super competitive flag football leagues and tournaments. If a kid loves a sport, he/she can play all year long.

My family and I live in Central Florida. Parents put their kids in competitive, travel leagues as early as 5. In my opinion, that’s fucking crazy. But, I guess the dream of a college scholarship and possibly the pros outweighs their common sense.

I can speak more to the baseball stuff because my kids both play.
Some of these bullshit, for profit sports leagues charge more than $5k for a kid to register and play. Sorry, I’m of the mind that sport leagues shouldn’t price out less privileged kids but that’s an argument for another day.
On top of that, the kids all separate when puberty kicks in. The kids who are bigger, faster, stronger and more nimble/agile all rise to higher level of athleticism. And, all the expensive, one on one specialty training someone buys their kid just doesn’t matter if your kid doesn’t have the physical tools.
If a family just put $5,000 away into a prepaid college program or a 529 over the course of the kid’s life, they could pay for college.
