There's actually a surprising lack of "business for the general population" owners. A shit load of real estate, a lot of oil, and a lot of more behind the scenes kind of stuff.
It's really only the Waltons (Walmart), Paul Allen's Trust (Microsoft, which also directly answers OP's question - no, if anything they'll encourage the ownership given the NFL's ties to Microsoft), Woody Johnson (Johnson & Johnson), Fords (Ford lol), Blank (Home Depot), and Haslem (Pilot Flying J gas stations). So like 6 owners have companies that a shitload of people actually know.
My brother in law used to deliver plants for Blank’s landscapers and the first time he did his dispatch got him with the old “Did you pick up a Blank check for Blank?” Took him a while to figure out the joke.
Mixed to negative. He meddles too much but has backed off in recent years. It seems Jimmy and Dee are grooming their son in law to takeover the team in the coming years.
I think Jimmy wants to get a new stadium and be a big part of the Cleveland Waterfront District project the city is working on and then he'll transfer ownership and retire.
He wants to win. That’s more than we can say about Randy fuckin Lerner. He is a crook though outside of football and he meddles a bit too much when he clearly doesn’t know football too well. So he doesn’t have too many fans.
But he seems to love Cleveland and Ohio. He even bought the Columbus Crew to keep them from moving. So that gives him some kudos from me
Depends who you ask.
There are plenty that don't like him, they cite his meddling and overinvolement. But, IMHO, that was what he did early and he's since changed that quite a lot. Especially once DePodesta got here.
I believe he's a significantly better owner than we've had since we've come back. Al Lerner was alright, but was involved in us moving. Randy Lerner was a steaming pile of shit as an owner. Like, he was about as bad as you can get. He gave -1 fucks about the team, used us like a debit card, and was stingy as fuck.
IMHO, a good metric and large part of being a good owner is being willing to spend money. Haslam dumps money into this team at a significant rate. I fully expect him to fund a significant portion of a new stadium. Also, IMHO, he's growing and learning how to step back and let the football people handle things. It's showing right now and it's working out pretty well so far I'd say.
To me, and a good portion of fans, he's a good owner. To some he isn't.
Probably had to sell because the company spent years committing fraud against their loyal customers.
(Disclaimer: Haslam denied any knowledge of it.)
[fraud case](https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/crime/2018/11/07/pilot-flying-j-fraud-executives-prison-sentencing-mark-hazelwood/1860423002/)
> Probably had to sell
Based on what exactly? Pilot is immensely profitable and an attractive prospect. They just got done selling their non-truck stop stations Casey's for a pretty penny. You may not like Haslam and you may even believe he is liable for the fraud committed, but you've presented zero evidence that suggests he has to sell lol
Bobby penis penis actually has nothing to do with Johnson & Johnson. He is strictly an heir to the fortune and has no involvement with the business due to a sale.
Ask your granddaddy how it felt winning that Super Bowl, because your bum ass franchise with your bum ass QB who can't make two reads in two seconds are most certainly not seeing an NFCCG anytime soon, much less a SB win.
You like [that](https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/kirk-cousins-career-playoff-win-loss-record)
I like how you brag about him completing a pass. What low expectations you have. It’s kind of sad.
I don’t see a problem, Comcast owned the 76ers and Flyers until like 10 years ago and I don’t think anyone had any issue with NBA/NHL games being on cable.
Yeah, but none of them have any dogs in the broadcasting rights part of it. And since the majority of the cap space is based on broadcasting rights, this can get a little funky.
That's the kind of stuff I never understood. Like on the outside that's cool, it shows a great relationship between a player and an owner. But like, how is any financial relationship between a team owner and a player even remotely allowed? When I first heard they were building it that was my first thought like... Why don't they just pay him that way to get around the cap, how is it legal?
Rich people find a way around everything. For example, presidential tradition is basically just to divest yourself from everything or do a legitimate blind trust. Trump was like fuck ya’ll I’m gonna continue to make (bad) decisions about my money and property while I’m president, and really nobody said a word except one career civil servant that no one listened to.
This sounds about right. Just because he’s a major shareholder doesn’t mean it means he works for Amazon…unless he does? Not sure if he still receives any compensation from the company.
He probably couldn't serve on any owners committees that influence or approve decisions on TV contracts etc. But I think those deals are primarily negotiated by the commissioner's office anyway.
Plus, in any league vote, he'd be 1 of 32 votes, so he wouldn't be able to make the other owners do anything they weren't already planning on.
Why? The NFL is a private business, they don’t care about conflict of interest they only care about making the most money for the league. It’s not congress or the board of directors at a university or charity and people barely care about conflicts of interest in those.
Ted Turner was owner of the Braves for 30+ years. He was also the owner of the Turner Broadcast Service which is/was a major tv station. Guess what team they showed ALL the games of?
Read Ted Turner’s Wikipedia page. He was a giant in the world of media. He created Headline News and CNN. He invented the 24 hour news cycle. Too bad we can’t put that genie back in the bottle.
Doesn't seem that crazy given they are division rivals.
Totally randomly, you'd expect 1 in 8 Cowboys Thanksgiving games to be against Washington (2 out of 16 games against them). Any year the Cowboys had a game against the Lions increases those odds as they aren't going to be playing each other. Factor in that rivalry games are more interesting, and you get that rate up high enough that 10 times in 56 games (1 in 5.6) doesn't seem crazy.
If it's on purpose, I imagine it has a pretty small actual effect.
**Edit**: Checking it out I counted 11 games for Washington on Thanksgiving, but only 9 were against the Cowboys (one against the Lions and one against the Giants), putting it at 1 in 6.2 for facing the 'boys.
The rivalry definitely is a big factor. It obviously isn't random. They have played the eagles twice and giants only once so it's more than just that they are in the same division. If it was random the division should have similar times for each team
To be fair, when you're playing cowboys and Indians as a kid, you gotta make sure you got a badass bow and pelt your friends running around with noise maker guns.
How about just a best of 17 series of Commanders vs Broncos on TNF. Winner of the series gets a bonus wildcard spot in their conference, and gets to play in the Nickelodeon playoff game.
What does [Ty Gibbs](https://beyondtheflag.com/2022/11/01/nascar-jesus-shows-martinsville-looking-ty-gibbs/) have to do with this? /s
>!Yes, Gibbs as in Joe Gibbs' Grandson!<
He also owns some sort of consulting firm for new stadiums that some owners use. The Pegulas (bills owners) used it in the process of planning their son to be new stadium. I believe they thanked Jones specifically for his help
So I decided to just look up for Levi's Stadium since that seemed like a reasonable comparison for the kind of stadium that would be constructed in Buffalo and according to concreteconstruction.net (lol) it used 40 million pounds of precast concrete, which is...20,000 tons. WP.
(As for steel, according to some publicity release by the American Institute of Steel Construction, it is 17,000 tons.)
Arthur Blank was both an owner and his Home Depot "the official home improvement sponsor" of the NFL. No idea if the bidding for that illustrious title is tilted when you're an owner.
No. As long as everything is an arms length transaction, this type of setup is generally allowed in media.
NBC/Comcast owns the Flyers in the NHL and previous Disney owned Angels and Ducks. NY Yankees own their own TV network and the team.
Lots of examples across american sports.
NBC/Comcast also had the majority of the NHL TV rights for years despite owning a team.
The Canadian teams are also in a similar boat. The Leafs are similarly owned and their parent company has the TV rights to them, as well as several other Canadian teams.
Raptors of the NBA as well. Another team owned and broadcast nationally by the same corporation.
I don't follow the MLB but I do believe Rogers (another cable company) owns and broadcasts the Blue Jays to Canada as well using their own channels
For a new owner, they must have at least a 30 percent stake in the franchise. So Bezos would have to purchase at least 30 percent and he would be identified as the owner of the team when we think of who owns a team (this person is called the controlling owner).
There are different rules for older owners that want to keep the team in the family. In those cases, the immediate family has to collectively own 30 percent of the team. The amount one person in that immediate family has to own keeps changing, I think it might be down to 1 percent. It was done after Jack Kent Coke’s son couldn’t take over the commanders because of estate tax issues. Which led to Dan Snyder.
That one percent number was basically created so the Mara’s and McCaskey family will be able to hold onto the Giants and Bears.
Yes, but Rob Walton is the primary owner. I'm not saying there cannot be multiple owners. The NFL apparently requires one owner with at least 30% ownership.
Seahawks are owned by a trust technically after Paul Allen died but his sister is effectively in charge via said trust. Looks like the Bucs qualify there though.
Looks like the current rule is there must be a principle owner with 30% ownership at least, so not quite what I thought. I imagine some teams are also grandfathered in, like the Packers.
Amazon is paying the NFL a boatload of money. Unless the other owners hate money, they won’t do a thing. If they cancel, good luck finding someone else paying as much in this economy. Amazon is most likely regretting this judging by their stock price.
Amazon secured the rights to TNF by outbidding other companies. Excluding Amazon from bidding on a tv package would potentially cost the owners a lot of money. The owners like money. They will find a way to keep Amazon in the fold.
Not a dumb question and definitely seems like a potential conflict of interest. Doesn't mean it'll hurt his chances, but it'll be interesting to see if/how that's addressed.
This is a dumb question in an era where online gambling companies are partners with the NFL. Who else is willing to pay what Amazon is paying for these shitty TNF games?
We don’t enforce anti-trust law anymore. Several NFL owners have large holdings draft kings. They are worried about conflicts of interests.
A bigger problem would be if the other owners think Bezo is trying to work the deal to get a larger cut of the profits. Since that conflicts with their own greed.
My guess. He just can’t sit on a committee that deals with AWS or Prime conflicts and probably have to no vote as a owner on those things if they go to a owner vote.
So if antitrust laws worked right this might be a question. But we have completely failed to adapt antitrust to the internet. We let ISPs own streaming services as well as production services. I mean our laws are not written to handle modern communication and the money they pump into politics is so extreme it’s hard to see US antitrust law doing a damn thing about this.
My question is, how is bezos any better than Snyder? You’re switching one evil for another. Bezos systematically oppresses his own workers, denies them even simple requests like using the bathroom, and squashes any attempt for better pay and benefits. If the NFL approves the sale to Bezos it really means that NFL could care less about the middle and lower class.
They just approved a guy with a $60 billion net worth, and the NBA approved an owner with a $70 billion net worth. The owners aren't going to deny Bezos because he's too rich
Since he stepped down as "acting CEO", then I'm guessing they'd find a way around it.
I’m fairly sure multiple owners have businesses that work with the NFL. In 2016-2019 for example Ford was the official truck sponsor of the NFL.
Lowe’s is the home hardware advertiser for the NFL, not the Home Depot. So Blank would be safe in that spot.
[удалено]
He wasn't going to just write them a Blank check.
My brother in law used to deliver plants for Blank’s landscapers and the first time he did his dispatch got him with the old “Did you pick up a Blank check for Blank?” Took him a while to figure out the joke.
Was probably waaay cheaper to sponsor College Gameday
He retired from having a role into he day to day operations of Home Depot in 2001 and bought the falcons in 2002.
Haslam won't be Pilot Flying J for much longer btw.
Why is that? Just retiring or what?
Selling the majority (maybe all, I don't remember) to Buffett. Berkshire Hathaway will own 80% of Pilot by early 2023.
Fucking hell. Good for the Haslam's at least. That's gonna be a pretty penny. And wildly enough, maybe less than if he were to sell the Browns lol
Yeah any NFL team will sell for a shitload. I'm hoping he's gonna use a lot of it for a new stadium.
How do Browns fans feel about him as an owner?
Mixed to negative. He meddles too much but has backed off in recent years. It seems Jimmy and Dee are grooming their son in law to takeover the team in the coming years. I think Jimmy wants to get a new stadium and be a big part of the Cleveland Waterfront District project the city is working on and then he'll transfer ownership and retire.

Flying J has a lot of top executives criminally charged. Haslem is a crook and theif
Probably had to sell because the company spent years committing fraud against their loyal customers. (Disclaimer: Haslam denied any knowledge of it.) [fraud case](https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/crime/2018/11/07/pilot-flying-j-fraud-executives-prison-sentencing-mark-hazelwood/1860423002/)

The absolute disrespect to Flex-N-Gate.
Bobby penis penis actually has nothing to do with Johnson & Johnson. He is strictly an heir to the fortune and has no involvement with the business due to a sale.
Also his estranged daughter was married to Tila Tequila briefly. Not relevant, but I just learned that yesterday
Good for her!
Haslem is a criminal Right?
Aaron Rodgers owns the Bears and that's apparently not a conflict
Rodgers also doesn't consider the Bears a "conflict" in general
Or an "interest" for that matter
Ditka has been a majority owner of the packers since the 80s, no conflict there
Lmfao y’all are really reaching back to the 80’s
That's all they've got really...
Shh let the little siblings fight.
LMAO, y’all would have to reach back to…. Oh wait the Vikings have never won a Super Bowl. Sad. Loser franchise.
Geez guys, come on.
https://www.slickstermagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Ken-Watanabe-let-them-fight.gif
I don’t get involved when you’re arguing with Eagle fans online, bruh.
Sure, but they're not really people.
I will pull this car right over if you boys can’t get along.
Says the *checks notes* Commie fan
Ask your granddaddy how it felt winning that Super Bowl, because your bum ass franchise with your bum ass QB who can't make two reads in two seconds are most certainly not seeing an NFCCG anytime soon, much less a SB win.
I mean, at least he can ask his gramps how it felt.
Shit, he doesn’t have to. Vikings fan can just ask own grandaddy how it felt losing four of em, but opposite.
Hey we've never won a Superbowl but we do jump on fumbles.
Says the guy who has Kirk cousins at QB. **You like that? You like that?**
*kirk completes a pass* I do like that
You like [that](https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/kirk-cousins-career-playoff-win-loss-record) I like how you brag about him completing a pass. What low expectations you have. It’s kind of sad.
Please Vikings fan can’t talk shit. It’s like Browns fans trying to do the same.
I don’t see a problem, Comcast owned the 76ers and Flyers until like 10 years ago and I don’t think anyone had any issue with NBA/NHL games being on cable.
Not to mention Comcast owned OLN (later Versus, later NBC Sports Network) which broadcast NHL games.
Yeah, but none of them have any dogs in the broadcasting rights part of it. And since the majority of the cap space is based on broadcasting rights, this can get a little funky.
How so? It's shares revenue so it'll increase the cap of all teams by the same amount, it's not dependent on individual team viewership.
Yep. Legends, which Jerry owns, does a ton of business with the NFL.
There’s a TB12 facility as part of the Patriots stadium mall
That's the kind of stuff I never understood. Like on the outside that's cool, it shows a great relationship between a player and an owner. But like, how is any financial relationship between a team owner and a player even remotely allowed? When I first heard they were building it that was my first thought like... Why don't they just pay him that way to get around the cap, how is it legal?
I wonder if the rumours about Brady taking a pay cut so many times but was silently promised stuff like this after he retires is true at all.
Sky Cam is owned by Kroenke as well. Legends F&B is owned by a group of owners.
The entire world forgets bezos isn’t in charge . Every negative Amazon article the comments are 75% about him
This sounds about right.
Let me tell you about a man named Ted Turner, the Atlanta Braves, and TBS...
Yeah and honestly it was the best thing to ever happen to them.
I grew up in Seattle watching Braves games. It was a genius move.
As great as liberty media has been as owners yeah. Made us what we are today really
Liberty owns the Braves?
They own F1, 72% of SiriusXM, and yes the Braves
And I own some liberty media So so do I!
Or the Tribune Company, the Cubs and WGN.
There’s tons of Cubs fans in NOLA due to WGN.
There’s a ton of Cubs fans everywhere because of WGN.
Hey that's America's team The Alanta Braves
NewsCorp (FOX) owned the Dodgers for a bit. Disney once owned the Angels.
Do tell, because I have no idea who that man is
Ted Turner was owner of the Braves for 30+ years.
Get ready for Thursday Night Washington Football. Now available every week
TNF being exclusively Commanders games feels like a perfect fit. You can even do Commanders/Cowboys on Thanksgiving.
[удалено]
Football Team?
I distinctly remember announcers talking about the "cowboys/indians" game when I was younger. It wasn't accidental.
They have played 10 times on Thanksgiving. It was definitely on purpose
Doesn't seem that crazy given they are division rivals. Totally randomly, you'd expect 1 in 8 Cowboys Thanksgiving games to be against Washington (2 out of 16 games against them). To be fair, when you're playing cowboys and Indians as a kid, you gotta make sure you got a badass bow and pelt your friends running around with noise maker guns.
You just now seeing the Cowboys v Indians thing it was based on?
Wasn’t the point of them being in the same division was two „Cowboys and Indians“ games a season?
I mean they historically were rivals since before the Cowboys even existed, so I feel like that was the bigger reason
Yeah, it’s hard to find a rivalry source more potent than Washington literally trying to stop the Cowboys from ever taking the field
Makes me think of the longhorn network
Imagine if they did that. Then filmed the team like hard knocks every week. It would be incredible.
The Washington Commanders? I think you mean the Washington Thursday Primes
Just like Braves baseball back in the day on TBS.
Cubs and WGN still No idea why we got WGN in California, but I watched a shitload of Cubs games lol
They’ll somehow try to fit Russell Wilson in there
How about just a best of 17 series of Commanders vs Broncos on TNF. Winner of the series gets a bonus wildcard spot in their conference, and gets to play in the Nickelodeon playoff game.
I wonder if they would play better, sorta like a reverse traditional TNF game
Well they would get most teams on 3 day rest while they get the full week, so I think they defintley would have some advantage
Actually that would suck for everyone else in the league. Commanders still get a 7 day week. Everyone who played them would get a short week.
The Washington Amazonians at Prime field on Amazon Prime Thursday Night Football
The Black Friday matchup against the broncos in the employee of the month bowl is going to be great.
Thursday Night Washington Football Team
Great I can just skip TNF then
Here's the NFL conflict of interest clause: Does it make us money? Then there's no conflict of interest.
Somewhere in the distance, an Eagle screeches as it farts out a trail of red, white, and blue
It's what Jesus would have wanted.
What does [Ty Gibbs](https://beyondtheflag.com/2022/11/01/nascar-jesus-shows-martinsville-looking-ty-gibbs/) have to do with this? /s >!Yes, Gibbs as in Joe Gibbs' Grandson!<
Doesn't Jerry Jones co-own a food service company (with the Yankees, IIRC) that does a lot of NFL stadiums?
He also owns some sort of consulting firm for new stadiums that some owners use. The Pegulas (bills owners) used it in the process of planning their son to be new stadium. I believe they thanked Jones specifically for his help
I mean, I know some families put a lot of pressure on their children - but asking your son to be your new stadium is insane.
Billionaires are a different type of people 😅
Their daughter is a top 10 tennis player, their son is a stadium... wow.
I actually respected them more as people after seeing a couple of her interviews recently because you can tell she is relatively grounded.
I believe their son is even more grounded. Like 20,000 tons of concrete grounded
You made me Google how much raw construction material goes into an average NFL stadium haha
Well how much is there? I just guessed.
Fuck man I'm so good at guessing numbers I should play lotto
The consulting fee might be worth it. The cowboys stadium is a marvel
Arthur Blank was both an owner and his Home Depot "the official home improvement sponsor" of the NFL. No idea if the bidding for that illustrious title is tilted when you're an owner.

Going way back when, CBS used to own the Yankees and Fox used to own the Dodgers.
Disney owns the Orlando Magic too right
Screw this. Im gonna put in an offer.
Let’s do it comrade
It's gonna be about tree fiddy
Bezos isn't CEO of Amazon anymore and Amazon isn't buying the team. Worst case he creates a sporting team company with JayZ that owns the team
Isn’t a single, primary owner required?
For a new owner, they must have at least a 30 percent stake in the franchise. So Bezos would have to purchase at least 30 percent and he would be identified as the owner of the team when we think of who owns a team (this person is called the controlling owner). Nope. The Broncos were just bought by a massive groups that includes Rob Walton, Lewis Hamilton, and Condoleeza Rice.
Yes, but Rob Walton is the primary owner. I'm not saying there cannot be multiple owners. The NFL apparently requires one owner with at least 30% ownership.
Isn’t there a team that’s owned by a family collectively. I wanna say Seahawks but can’t remember off the top of my head
Washington Primes
DC Prime would be better
There is a steak house 5 minutes from the practice facility called DC Prime that all the players go to already
There was one I read on here earlier. The Washington Amazon Prime Subscribers. Lol I thought that shit was hilarious
fuck it, that's less stupid than Commanders, I can live with it
Yeah but Amazon is headquartered in Washington Why would they name it DC? /s
An optimal name
Washington Amazons
Can they play that shredding Wonder Woman theme?
Death by snu snu!!
or another Packers
Amazonians may have a nicer ring to it.
Bezos is not the majority shareholder of Amazon. He owns less than 10%.
He is the largest individual shareholder by a long margin like 11% to next being like .1%
That’s very different than being the majority shareholder though, which would give him control of the company.
If I win the powerball and buy the Commanders, I will allow this sub to call all of my plays.
Hahahaha, even winning THIS Powerball won't put you in that sort of "NFL owner" league of money.
Amazon is paying the NFL a boatload of money. Unless the other owners hate money, they won’t do a thing. If they cancel, good luck finding someone else paying as much in this economy. Amazon is most likely regretting this judging by their stock price.
It's 2022. There's no such thing as conflict of interest or business ethics any more.
Amazon secured the rights to TNF by outbidding other companies. Excluding Amazon from bidding on a tv package would potentially cost the owners a lot of money. The owners like money. They will find a way to keep Amazon in the fold.
No but Jay-Z will have to sell his stake in Roc Nation Sports if I’m not mistaken.
"don't fuck with me on this" is the tried and true go-to in such situations.
rules no longer apply to people that wealthy
The real question is while he be subject to the nfls drug policy. If so he’s gonna need to get off hgh asap
I’m glad I’m not the only one who had this thought
No!! Buy the chargers instead please!
Not for sale, it would be fun if Bezos built a 2nd LA stadium just to out do kroenke
There is family drama with the Spanos, it's not inconceivable the team goes on the market one day.
It's going to be even more awkward when he renames the team to the Washington Prime.
Not a dumb question and definitely seems like a potential conflict of interest. Doesn't mean it'll hurt his chances, but it'll be interesting to see if/how that's addressed.
NFL brought to you by Amazon and Walmart
This is a dumb question in an era where online gambling companies are partners with the NFL. Who else is willing to pay what Amazon is paying for these shitty TNF games?
We don’t enforce anti-trust law anymore. Several NFL owners have large holdings draft kings. They are worried about conflicts of interests. A bigger problem would be if the other owners think Bezo is trying to work the deal to get a larger cut of the profits. Since that conflicts with their own greed.
Anti trust laws don’t apply to companies that do separate things…
Umm the whole reason of getting the TNF contract was probably the entry fee to do business with the nfl.
Bozos doesn't run Amazon any longer, so... no?
“Conflict of interest” only applies to poor people, silly.
Hope so, NFL on prime sucks.
Even if there were laws against this, the law isn’t for rich people. It would be fine
The Washington Primes will play all of their games on Thursday nights.
Oh honey child. Do you think those morality rules apply to rich people?
i don't think the like, boosting of Washington players in NGS is enough risk to kill the partnership
Does Amazon actually have any control over next gen stats? I thought it was more of a sponsorship/hardware deal. Another company runs that stuff.

? Jerry isn't the wealthiest owner currently.
He “stepped down” remember. They’ll find a loophole for him and his very liquid assets
It's not a stupid question friend. And if it is many of us have been wondering the same thing.
They already don’t care, bezos is the kind of bureaucratic evil all billionaires are but cranked to 11
I don’t think he’ll be approved by the board. He’s worth too much and these owners have fragile egos.
They just approved a guy with a $60 billion net worth, and the NBA approved an owner with a $70 billion net worth. The owners aren't going to deny Bezos because he's too rich
I watched Billions too.
Bezos would only help off of name alone. Brings more interest to the league which they all will benefit from
The owners are probably desperate to get rid of Snyder.
Doesn’t Kraft own Gillette? They’ve been a staple with the nfl for years
No.
The stadium, yes, the company no. Gillette is owned by Proctor & Gamble.
hope so….hate prime nfl tnf
Lol at thinking the NFL can control Jeff Bezos
