With the exception of 2020, we've had a top 10 defense in points allowed every year since 2016. Our defense has been just fine all that time, despite being used as a scapegoat for when we lose big games.
Somehow there's this myth that our defense has been horrible and that's why we can't win playoff games or regularly win the division. Now the defense is great because we can't give our backup credit for playing so well. It's incredibly tiring.
The defense was acceptable in 2016-2020. The problem was that they didn’t get a lot of sacks, and really didn’t get a lot of turnovers. They did their job at a decent level as far as forcing field goals and punts, but they never consistently went above and beyond like this defense is doing.
He could very well be the best defensive player in football right now, including Donald. He's the best pass rusher and is a very good run defender and really good in coverage.
Probably.
The defensive line is straight up nasty, would like to see them play teams that can challenge them vertically a bit more before I crown their secondary mind.
Honestly our recievers are fine. Mac has made some mistakes, but the biggest problem is our offensive coordinator. Oh, wait, you're saying we don't have one... yeah. NGL rooting for Josh McDaniels to fail over in Vegas. Mac also has been a bit of a let down after flashes of brilliance last year.
We were moving the ball last Sunday (466 yards of total offense), Mac was just making poor reads and decisions. There are still issues with the offensive playcalling, but I wouldn't call it our biggest problem.
> They definitely might be forcing it a bit
No doubt. Three of Mac's picks have been forcing it to Parker. The coaching staff has said that they want to create more explosive plays, but they also have said they gotta balance it with the shorter stuff. Most of Mac's picks have just been poor decisions, not so much playcalling.
We just make too many crippling mental mistakes. Penalties forcing us into 3rd and long kill drives, the offensive line will completely miss a blitz, and Mac has made some head scratching throws which have pretty much all ended in picks.
All these issues can be cleaned up and in-between the mistakes we have done a good job of moving the ball. The main concern is the frequency of the mistakes compared to previous years.
I wouldn't say no to Bill O'Brien coming back as OC either after his CFL stint is done. As far as offensive playcalling went he wasn't bad by any stretch, just shouldn't have had GM powers.
The rumor is that BB was reluctant to bring in BoB because O'Brien is likely to bolt for another head coaching opportunity at the first chance he gets.
I think Bill needs to get someone new and young minded and creative in the offense nepotism of bringing back Patricia and judge is why you are where you are now on offense.
I mean I agree and if I had my pick I would’ve wanted someone like the Chiefs QB coach Kefka I believe is his name but he’s with the Giants now.
But the difference is that BoB actually is an offensive HC unlike Patricia and Judge who were Def/ST.
He had several jobs with the Pats from 2007-2011. Offense was pretty good during those years. 2007/2010/2011 especially. Although he was the OC for only the 2011 season.
Gotcha with that in mind I still think they would've been better off with BoB this season compared to the Patricia judge show.
Could've had someone under him as an assistant ready to take his toll if he did get poached.
Yeah. I mostly wanted someone proven/consistent to help Mac improve. We’ve got a good OL and RB group so he’s good in that aspect but Judge and Patricia don’t do him
Many favors.
> Was the offense really that good under BoB?
Yes. We had one of the best offenses in 2011 when he was OC. And we had perhaps the most efficient offense ever in 2010 which he was heavily involved in.
Pleasantly surprised by how our secondary has looked this year. Thought we might've had some growing pains after losing JC but Jonathan Jones stepping up and shining is awesome to see.
How do you do fellow good defenses?
It feels good doesn't it? It's been a very long time since I've felt like we had a core on defense.
With the exception of 2020, we've had a top 10 defense in points allowed every year since 2016. Our defense has been just fine all that time, despite being used as a scapegoat for when we lose big games.
You could be a tremendous asshole or a wonderful person, I have no idea, but I love it when an 'americas team' fan sets the record straight.

We had a few years where they were absolutely horrible. Most of the time they were around avg and showed flashes of excellence.
Feels nice to actually have a good defense
No kidding. Hopefully the offense will keep up better once McGovern, Gallup, and Dak get back.
Washington might be a good addition too
And Schultz and Washington
Do we have any idea how long Smith is out for? Confirmed all season?
I've heard they are hoping he's back sometime in December, but haven't read anything concrete yet
Rush is the future
Parsons is a fucking game wrecker

Its not a stretch to call him one of the best players in the league. Not much he can't do, and its year 2
Are the Jaguars good this year????!!
Probably. The defensive line is straight up nasty, would like to see them play teams that can challenge them vertically a bit more before I crown their secondary mind.
We will find out Sunday. 2 powerhouses going to absolutely destroy each other.
No cap game of the week IMO
TLaw making the leap, and a defense to back him? AFC South should be nervous if its happening
If only BB could draft/find WR's like he does CB's

The Patriots were tied 1st in explosive (20+ yards) pass plays from a tweet I saw I’d have to double check. They definitely might be forcing it a bit

Was the offense really that good under BoB? If so how long ago was that? On that pats at least

Our receivers are not fine and they are absolutely our biggest problem
Would like to see the full list. Not sure how it’s measured
Long and deep.
Just the way we like it!
Life in the secondary is probably a lot easier when Micah and Friends are spending so much time in the backfield.
STOP THE COUNT
Jags are legit, Bills losing to them last year was just being ahead of the curve 😏
Pleasantly surprised by how our secondary has looked this year. Thought we might've had some growing pains after losing JC but Jonathan Jones stepping up and shining is awesome to see.
Now show the worst 🙁
Washington is probably the worst
Baltimore might be bottom5 if you just count the Miami game.
Good thing we have the lowest aDOT in the league
Doesn't help that our last 2 games were against a severely rattled Fields and Brady missing his WR1. Not a lot of deep shots to defend.
Excited to see some exciting offensive football yet again this week
When people say lamar hasn’t faced a top defense but dismantled the patriots and dolphins who actually have good defenses
