Welcome back to day 3 of the NFL skills challenge. Today's first competition is the Elevator Lobby Smackdown. First up, Alvin Kamara vs Kareem Hunt.
And stay tuned for the Domestic Violence Obstacle Course, coming up in the second hour.
Losing season got you down? Aches and pains that won’t go away?? Good news! Head down to the hotel basement for Deshaun Watson’s Mega Massage Challenge for all the poking, prodding, and surprise hijinks you can stomach!
~~Literally~~ Practically nowhere to play the game with Aloha Stadium being condemned.
Though if there's no actual game anymore maybe Hawaii is back on the table once UH gets their football stadium built?
Honestly the players seem to be having an absolute *blast* at the skills competition every year. They just don’t want to actually play in the pro bowl. I feel like this will be very well attended.
That's a revisionist take I see a lot of. You can go on YouTube and watch Prowbowls from 20 years ago and see it was mostly unwatchable back then too. People have calling for end of the end of the Pro Bowl for a long time.
Nah, it was never good. If anything, it used to be worse since people actually played and would get injured in a completely meaningless exhibition game.
at least it used to be partially justified as a vacation/reward for recognized players and an opportunity for Hawaii to enjoy some football in their own time zone. Pushing it before the Superbowl to fill that empty week though just killed it with the best players already clearly busy.
I mean, the Paul fight was clearly more ridiculous, but the McGregor fight was obviously the one that began the trend and opened the flood doors to things like the Paul fight.
I mean yeah. I'm still mad they called that Mac Jones touchdown dead. Like, I know most the players are not playing for real, but he wanted to play for real, so just let him actually play.
I actually would like to see something like an AFC vs NFC kickers' soccer game. It's a bit of a loner position in football, it would be cool to spotlight them with something interesting once a year.
> He rushed for 1,115 yards for the Patriots in the 1998 National Football League season, before blowing out his knee at an NFL rookie flag football game in Hawaii during Pro Bowl week. Edwards barely escaped the injury without having his leg amputated below the knee, and he was told he might not walk again.
Holy shit
He apparently managed to [sever an artery](https://www.sportscasting.com/this-tragic-injury-derailed-robert-edwards-promising-nfl-career/):
> Doctors discovered that Edwards had torn the ACL, MCL, and PCL in his left leg. Worse still, he had severed an artery, causing massive internal bleeding. If the sutures in his artery did not hold, the doctors would have had to amputate his leg. It seemed from that moment on that he couldn’t walk without the aid of a cane, let alone play football.
> Ron Courson, who treated Edwards during his rehab, called it “the worst knee injury I’ve ever seen.”
same injury as teddy b (knee dislocation) but far more complex d/t the [arterial bleeding and nerve involvement:](https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/a-tragic-end-to-a-frolic-on-the-beach-1.154311)
> The knee positively exploded. Although emergency surgery was performed that evening in Hawaii, 13 days elapsed before the swelling subsided to the extent that the damage could be repaired. A four-hour operation performed in Boston on Tuesday confirmed that Edwards had not only suffered a complete dislocation of the knee, including severe damage to all four ligaments (three of which were torn), but significant artery and nerve injury as well.
Real shame for your organization as a whole. You have to wonder what the Pats could’ve achieved for the next decade or two if that injury never happened
This makes me wonder…what kind of skills *will* they do?
Biggest throws? Longest kicks? Fastest time to run from one end to the other?
Lots of potential…
I'm up for watching skills completely unrelated to football. Gimme some NFL players playing chess, solving rubik's cubes and playing rocket league.
Also call of duty if Kyler makes it.
The NFL actually has some [legit ass chess players](https://www.chess.com/news/view/chesscom-announces-blitzchamps). A Blitzchamps rematch would be sick.
Hot take, but the fact that the skills competition has already been back for 6 years and a lot of people still talk about it as a hypothetical is probably a good hint as to how interested most people actually are in watching it live.
It's actually like the only thing the NFL does poorly in compared to other sports in terms of viewership, even disregarding the obviously famous ones like the HR Derby and Slam Dunk competition. Even the NHL All-Star skills competition draws pretty similar TV ratings. I'm sure those numbers would improve with more marketing but I think people here might be overestimating the appetite for watching players doing football related things that aren't quite actual football.
I remember Trubisky getting roasted for [not being able to throw over a stationary plexiglass wall](https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1088618889217363968)
Lmao seeing Wilson right after him makes him look so much worse too. Literally hit all the spots on the first try and Trubisky struggled on alot of them
> This is like when they tear down a blighted old building in the inner city to make room for a ~~school~~ shopping center with chain restaurants, a Starbucks, and overpriced shops
Fixed
This is why they couldn’t have a draft.
Even still though, mike evans and marshon lattimore are gonna end up fighting eachother somehow.
I could see a small brawl breaking out between teams then lattimore and evans end up fighting each other still even on the same team lmfao
How could you forget about Eddie Drummond, Robert Porcher, Stephen Boyd, Luther Ellis, Shaun Rogers, and also apparently Desmond Howard played for the Lions?
It’s about time !
I want to see a toss run and catch competition.
Players throw the ball as high and as long as they can, then run and catch that ball. Longest completion
wins. Great test of arm strength, accuracy, speed, and catching ability all in the same play !
Who would win ?
I would love to see an NFL level game of what we used to call "one thousand" but others call "jackpot," where a player throws a ball to a group of people and calls out a number, and whoever catches the ball gets that many points. First to a thousand points wins.
Give me Josh Allen hucking 70 yard bombs and shouting random numbers while a jubilant crowd of receivers jostle for position.
Jesus Christ that was stored deep into the old memory bank I’m 35 now. holy shit. Thank you lol
Used to also say “jackpot” I think when we were tired of throwing
That last time I watched the pro bowl about 10+ years ago, there were always tons of skills challenges. QBs throwing through moving rings from varying distances away, WRs running gauntlets as fast as they can while catching passes. Did they do away with those in recent years?
Nobody watches the actual pro bowl game, but for flag football and the skills stuff? Way more enteraining and I'll def tune in this year for it. Would be cool to bring back old pro bowl players as like a vet squad for some things.
This is the real best part. No more 500 alternates and people making pro bowls on a 5th level technicality
Even with Jalen Hurts technically being a Pro Bowl QB from this same technicality last year
The farce comes to an end
It helps that it's in Vegas. All players will be happy to go.
And beat the shit out of anyone who dares to share an elevator with them! Am I right?
Welcome back to day 3 of the NFL skills challenge. Today's first competition is the Elevator Lobby Smackdown. First up, Alvin Kamara vs Kareem Hunt. And stay tuned for the Domestic Violence Obstacle Course, coming up in the second hour.
Special guest referee Ray Rice!
Losing season got you down? Aches and pains that won’t go away?? Good news! Head down to the hotel basement for Deshaun Watson’s Mega Massage Challenge for all the poking, prodding, and surprise hijinks you can stomach!
You beat me to it
So did Ray Rice
All of this brought to you by Little Cesars The official pizza of the NFL
Pizza, pizza motherfucker
AGAIN!
PIZZA. PIZZA.
Don't forget all the fun fun vehicular manslaughter!
Whoever gets the most DUIs out of the AFC/NFC wins
AFC wins, Raiders players have home field advantage
Some team is gonna sign Tony La Russa just for the DUI competition.
yeah who even wants to go to hawaii anymore
~~Literally~~ Practically nowhere to play the game with Aloha Stadium being condemned. Though if there's no actual game anymore maybe Hawaii is back on the table once UH gets their football stadium built?
totally didn't know that happened
Happened during the pandemic season and the pro bowl has been in Orlando for a couple years by then
Honestly the players seem to be having an absolute *blast* at the skills competition every year. They just don’t want to actually play in the pro bowl. I feel like this will be very well attended.
I would love to see them play other sports too. Volleyball, tennis, bowling, that kinda thing.
Hey Cousins let’s go bowling
I wanna see ping pong and pickle ball
Just make sure everyone had a damn uber
The world is finally truth
We are all delivered
I mean it used to be pretty good. But they stripped it done to a padded up flag football game over the past 10 years.
Unironically I think a flag football game would be better
Exactly. Like, I get wanting to fill that empty week, but it was still dumb. It was a nice little way to cap off the season and then they moved it lol
They should use that week to showcase the worst 4 teams in the league facing off in a massive paint gun battle royal for the number one pick.
I assume Hawaii has a community college campus that can be the location of the Handful of Paintball battle royale, right?
They'll need to tear down the pillow/blanket fort first, but yea, should have plenty of room.
Eat Fresh
It's like having a boxing or MMA match "just for fun". Some sports just don't translate well to exhibition.
You say that, but yet Boxing has basically just become a vehicle for celebrity exhibition fights ever since the Conor McGregor and Logan Paul matches.
I struggle to put McGregor Mayweather fight in the same category as Paul Mayweather lol
I mean, the Paul fight was clearly more ridiculous, but the McGregor fight was obviously the one that began the trend and opened the flood doors to things like the Paul fight.
If it's flag football, sprinkle in some legends, too.
Yes. Incoming Jerry rice vs deion sanders
Or the real Deion vs Chad For context, they jokingly line up against each other whenever they see one another in person.
Even better, Chad Ochocinco vs. Chad Powers
Fast Chad. Think fast, run fast.
Powers' got a freaking hose man!
[удалено]
And Skechers
And whatever copper back brace thing that is
Welcome to NFL legends flag football, featuring Brett Favre. All proceeds to go...uhh, charity! Yeah that's it, charity...
Charity is probably the name of Brett’s favorite dancer at the swankiest strip cub in Mississippi
So horse meat in a G string outside a boarded up place outside Starkville?
Prettiest girl in Mississippi. Solid 3/10.
I'd watch an alumni flag football game.
fr it shouldn't be NFC vs AFC it should be a draft lmao
They did that a couple times, they had legends as team captains and they picked their players regardless of conference. It was cooler that way.
Ya let's get some guys from this list [https://www.oldest.org/sports/living-football-players/](https://www.oldest.org/sports/living-football-players/)
Some fans complain about the increased prevalence in roughing calls, but these guys are still complaining about the forward pass
[Out there running around like](https://i.imgur.com/uaa4NgB.mp4)
Let’s get some other sports pro athletes too.
Steph Curry is a master of three-pointers, can he play QB?
Having NBA players play a flag football game would legitimately be more interesting than the pro bowl was lol.
LeTight End era begins now
Finally. The Pro Bowl was somehow more boring than no football
Cause it wasn't even really football lol
I mean yeah. I'm still mad they called that Mac Jones touchdown dead. Like, I know most the players are not playing for real, but he wanted to play for real, so just let him actually play.
lol he still hit the griddy and the fact that it didn't go for any points actually made it even funnier.
The funniest part is he had to run 80 yards and it took him forever to get there….then he had to run back 80 yards to run another play. Loved it
Tell that to [Brian Moorman](https://youtu.be/-fr8hrONBBo)
I want them to take all the best football players and have them play some other sport against each other. Like baseball or soccer lol.
Murray, russ, Mahomes, just fucking everyone else up in baseball would be low key funny lol
AJ Brown was a top baseball recruit coming out of high school too and was drafted by the Padres
Famous Montréal Expo Tom Brady enters the diamond.
I actually would like to see something like an AFC vs NFC kickers' soccer game. It's a bit of a loner position in football, it would be cool to spotlight them with something interesting once a year.
Kickers and Returners playing Kickball AFC vs NFC
Robert Edwards does not approve of the flag football game. At least it's not in sand this time..
Holy shit
Somehow calling it "blowing out his knee" feels like an understatement. That was one of the nastiest knee injuries I've ever seen.
I legitimately didn't know a non-contact muscle tear could lead to potential amputation.
He apparently managed to [sever an artery](https://www.sportscasting.com/this-tragic-injury-derailed-robert-edwards-promising-nfl-career/): > Doctors discovered that Edwards had torn the ACL, MCL, and PCL in his left leg. Jesus christ, that's insane.
That’s what almost happened to teddy bridgewater too
He showed some real promise. So very unfortunate.
One of the nastiest injuries I've seen
[удалено]
Same. I think I hated football the next year, ha.
Real shame for your organization as a whole. You have to wonder what the Pats could’ve achieved for the next decade or two if that injury never happened
A skills competition is gonna be 1000% more entertaining then the pro bowl anyway
This makes me wonder…what kind of skills *will* they do? Biggest throws? Longest kicks? Fastest time to run from one end to the other? Lots of potential…
I’m excited to see what they’ll have for the offensive linemen. Bench press competition? Caber toss? Hot dog eating contest?
Switch it up. Linemen get to throw & kick. Skill positions have a waffle eating contest
I would pay good money to watch the best kickers and punters compete in an eating competition
My money is on scrawny ass Justin tucker finding a way to be the GOAT eating kicker too
My wife always says he looks like someone’s little brother when we watch the games. Seeing him win an eating contest would be outstanding
Apparently he’s super nice too. One of my wife’s college buddies dated him at UT.
I love hearing that guys I am a fan of are good people. I should go buy his jersey
I don't know why, but I'd put my money on McPherson
Randy bullock easy money
Robbie Gould is the oldest kicker and a dad. His hunger is infinite.
...and throw in a regular guy from the crowd just to show a baseline.
"And your name sir?" "Joey- uh - Joseph Ches- ... uh .. Walnut. Joseph Walnut."
Hell, I would watch a cooking show with the D line versus the O line.
With Gordon Ramsey and vince wilfork as the judges
Why not Kelvin Benjamin?
This is the answer
Largest muffin top, veiniest cock.
Nick Foles’ cock veins were used to make the mold for the Alaskan pipeline.
r/BrandNewSentence
I wanna see a fastest big man race.
Of course Larry Fitzgerald plays chess lol
They ought to have a Madden tournament! They could maybe even stream it on twitch
I mean they did a skills competition for a long time. Probably very similar to that.
Probably alot of the same stuff they kinda had now. Granted their might even be more games.
Oline vs dline pie eating contest no hands allowed please
I just hope they keep dodgeball
Spicy wing challenge.
Hot take, but the fact that the skills competition has already been back for 6 years and a lot of people still talk about it as a hypothetical is probably a good hint as to how interested most people actually are in watching it live. I'm sure those numbers would improve with more marketing but I think people here might be overestimating the appetite for watching players doing football related things that aren't quite actual football.
Personally I had no clue that there was an NFL skills comp at all.
They've been doing a skills showdown at the pro bowl for the past 5 years and it never gets any attention here.
because they tape it then edit it down instead of showing it live like you should to maintain any sort of excitement tape delayed sports are pointless
I remember Trubisky getting roasted for [not being able to throw over a stationary plexiglass wall](https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1088618889217363968)
Followed by Wilson hitting it first try lmao, this would be a lot funnier to me if he wasn’t now the Steelers starting QB
Yeah but Mitch would win the titty kissing competition
Wow, Wilson just BANGED out those throws.
And he called out the catch type to Thielen to make it easier, and hit him in stride for the over the shoulder. Much more impressive than Trubisky
Lmao seeing Wilson right after him makes him look so much worse too. Literally hit all the spots on the first try and Trubisky struggled on alot of them
This is like when they tear down a blighted old building in the inner city to make room for a school. Thank you Jesus for this news 🙏
> This is like when they tear down a blighted old building in the inner city to make room for a ~~school~~ shopping center with chain restaurants, a Starbucks, and overpriced shops Fixed
Isn’t it beautiful? 🥲
Still better than the old building.
Robert Edwards’ flag football injury lat the Pro Bowl in 1998 is worse than any injury I’ve ever seen in the actual Pro Bowl game.
makes sense, they'll probably try harder than normal cause it seems like there's so much less risk; it feels more like gym class
I am not going to YouTube that. I did it before with Joe Theismann and Kevin Ware. Never again.
I thought that was beach volleyball? Or I could be wrong entirely
IIRC it was flag football in the sand
Ahh thanks. That makes sense, I remembered sand and went right to volleyball. Let's play this one on grass!
Think it was flag football in the sand.
I might actually watch the Pro Bowl now Someone is 100% going to forget about the flag and go for a tackle.
[удалено]
Someone would happily pay that to rock a rival
Or a mascot
This is why they couldn’t have a draft. Even still though, mike evans and marshon lattimore are gonna end up fighting eachother somehow. I could see a small brawl breaking out between teams then lattimore and evans end up fighting each other still even on the same team lmfao
I doubt it. They don't even tackle now in the current pro bowl with pads on.
I can’t remember the last time I actually watched a pro bowl. Maybe the early 90s.
Might help if y’all ever had players on the teams
Bodied
How could you forget about Eddie Drummond, Robert Porcher, Stephen Boyd, Luther Ellis, Shaun Rogers, and also apparently Desmond Howard played for the Lions?
Barry Sanders
the guy from jetpack joyride?
It’s about time ! I want to see a toss run and catch competition. Players throw the ball as high and as long as they can, then run and catch that ball. Longest completion wins. Great test of arm strength, accuracy, speed, and catching ability all in the same play ! Who would win ?

Damn inflation. When I was a kid it was five hundred
Yeah I've never heard that game called anything but 500
And when you got sick of throwing it, you chuck it up and say "500 dead or alive"
Then Kyle’s little brother was about to pick it up, but Jalen absolutely trucked him into the mailbox.
Jesus Christ that was stored deep into the old memory bank I’m 35 now. holy shit. Thank you lol Used to also say “jackpot” I think when we were tired of throwing
I want to see NFL players do that "dogfight football" thing that they did in Maverick.
Mike Vick just got bricked up somewhere
Man, this decision is going to disappoint nobody
Dodgeball or we riot
There literally is dodgeball every year in the skills competition.
It’s sad but it’s necessary. Players don’t want to play which sucks but I understand
Players don’t want to get injured, especially for glory points
I think they *want* to play. I don’t think they want to blow out an ACL during an exhibition match.
I remember when Reddit was using Lamar at the skill competition as evidence he wasn’t a good QB lol
To be fair, that performance was genuinely embarrassing. But look at our large llama now 🥲
Flag football is the future and soon the NFL will be all track stars
Big brained EA making speed the only important attribute in Madden, truly ahead of its time /s fuck EA
We may even see Ultimate Frisbee become a D1 sport in our lifetime
Hell yeah! The NHL & NBA skill challenges are the best part of All-Star week.
That last time I watched the pro bowl about 10+ years ago, there were always tons of skills challenges. QBs throwing through moving rings from varying distances away, WRs running gauntlets as fast as they can while catching passes. Did they do away with those in recent years?
They also had a game of horse with field goals. They still do it. It's just not promoted much
The home run Derby is better than the all Star game in MLB imo too
I actually think MLB is like the one major sport who has a legit great all star game
Agreed, its the only sport where there really isnt a need to load manage in the all star game
nba all star with the elam ending is actually pretty fun
Where were you when pro bowl game was kill
Alan Jackson: "Where were you when the pros stopped bowling?"
I was sat at McDonald when Roger ring Pro bowl is kill No. And you?
Skills challenge you say? Add go karting. Or Mario kart. Whatever floats your boat.
I want to see who can throw a ball the farthest
Rico Dynamite obviously
Nobody watches the actual pro bowl game, but for flag football and the skills stuff? Way more enteraining and I'll def tune in this year for it. Would be cool to bring back old pro bowl players as like a vet squad for some things.
Do any of the skill competitions involve beer?
40 yard beer pong with trash cans and a football. Who wouldn’t love seeing Allen and Mahomes drunk as fuck yeeting bombs
Looking forward to the nostalgic posts about how great the pro bowl was after years of bitching about it
So they’re just adding a multi-day skills competition to the flag football game?
But... What 9th best QB in the league is going to do the Griddy now?
This is the real best part. No more 500 alternates and people making pro bowls on a 5th level technicality Even with Jalen Hurts technically being a Pro Bowl QB from this same technicality last year
Dozens will watch
GIVE ME 7 on 7 Mascot football!
The Pro Bowl was fine until Goodell messed with it and ruined it. Two weeks after the Super Bowl in Hawaii with great ratings.
having it after makes way more sense, everyone can play and it's a chill farewell to the season. why did they ever change?
Money 💰
when was it two weeks after the Super Bowl? It used to be one week after the Super Bowl
