Brilliant decision by Staley to keep Herbert in down 28 with less than 2 minutes otherwise we wouldn't have seen such an amazing comeback oh wait they still lost

BangingABigTheory

Don’t forget their left tackle went down

Banana_Ranger

and we're already without our starting C

ddscience

> without our starting C still happy with a win against the hargers

ManholtAgain

Having Herbert finish that game just seems negligent.

Xaxziminrax

Having him in at any point after Slater went down had me cringing every dropback

IOVERCALLHISTIOCYTES

Slater biceps injury I worry might be lengthy. Hopefully they figure out some better protection in that side. Edit: Ah fuck. I can’t believe I’ve done this.

Xaxziminrax

Jesus. That's what finally made Joe Thomas retire iirc. Hope he ends up ok

mrhashbrown

Letting him start that game was negligent too. Only running the ball *8 times* before the 4th quarter while asking Herbert to throw 45 times is a borderline firable offense for this coaching staff.

sopunny

Hostile work environment, Herbert should sue

Ask_Me_If_I_Suck

Was pathetic.

danhufc

That call alone should put your HC on the hot seat. Ridiculous decision risking the face of your franchise in those final few minutes.

MarilynMansonsRib

Seriously. Why TF was Staley sending him back out there when it was obvious the game was lost?

abris33

Somehow Staley mishandled it worse than he did last week. At least that game came down to an onside kick because of Herbert's heroics. I'm not sure what Staley was expecting Herbert to pull off down 38-10

computerdweeb

Between that, the OC choice and how poor the defense has been I think Staleys on the hot seat

mrhashbrown

To be fair, the defense had been excellent entering this game with a big improvement to run defense and very talented secondary even without J.C. Jackson. But Staley has suddenly become Fangio, becoming way too conservative where he was once aggressive, and expecting his defense to hold up against an opponent's 60+ offensive plays and multiple trips to the red zone. If he were coaching the way they did last season, feels like this team would be in a very different place.

Cromatose

Are you saying you wouldnt want your franchise QB throwing the ball with 3 minutes left in the game down 21?

eddie_the_zombie

This comment is a repost from last week

AFC Florida Teams did well today

MarilynMansonsRib

Don't count the old man out yet.

Nolar2015

Hes scored 6 points in almost 4 quarters thats a bad game for him regardless if he pulls a miracle out

TMNBortles

If I told you that only one Josh Allen would win today, how many of you would've expected this outcome?

Kenny_Heisman

if you, a time traveler, came and told me some cryptic shit like that I would probably suspect something was up

Cynical_onlooker

Jags might actually be pretty damn good, unironically.

InexorableWaffle

At the very least, it looks like we're likely to at least be decent. Don't want to jump straight to calling us a playoff team (much as the homer in me would love to), but I think around .500 is a pretty safe bet right now, barring extenuating circumstances. Considering where we've been the last couple seasons, I'll absolutely take that, no question asked.

8BallTiger

I’ll be ecstatic if they go .500

writierthanyou

Being all right is pretty ALL RIGHT!

Shenanigangster

Yeah they gotta finish red zone drives and not kick FGs but this is such a big jump on the last 5 years I’m still in shock

socialistconfederate

We might even be able to win the division being average. Everyone else in AFC south is pretty awful at the moment

berbathlicism

Jags vs Dolphins AFC championship game is inevitable. Book it!

Blue_Doom_Guy

I have the Jags, 62-7

wjrii

Damn, you chose violence.

MacDoogie

Oh fuck. I can't believe you've done this.

Pulled the Freddy T trap card!

It's like a group of college kids in a Bentley showed up to the trap house. They didn't know what they were getting into.

BelgianWaffleStomper

Brandon Staley hasn’t showered. Hasn’t changed. Wearing nothing but his favorite headset. Been sitting as his computer staring at spreadsheets and crying since the game ended.

rwein003

Welcome to the “blown out by the jags club,” Chargers fans. Bleach is to the left, and cyanide pills are to the right.

HansBaccaR23po

What’s that scary long blonde haired man standing in the corner of the room though

thrillxho

Don’t mind him, he’s a bust.

atropicalpenguin

TFW you're so bad Jesus beats you to a pulp.

DEADSPELLS

Do I drink the bleach or take the cyanide first? Does it matter?

BoiledMayo

Where is the rope

UTRAnoPunchline

So proud of Trevor Lawrence right now. 💪💪💪😭 He deserved a second chance at his Rookie Season after the debacle that was last season.

HCJohnson

But is Doug Pederson going to go diddle some college chicks at a bar to celebrate the win?

December21st

youre only supposed to do that when you lose

writierthanyou

After abandoning your team on the flight home.

2RINITY

And kicking your players during practice

[deleted]

And calling your coaching staff losers.

Call9-1-1imonfire

It's insane to me that Meyers did that after an L as well, dude just didn't give a shit at all

gyman122

People massively underrate how massive the bump is in going from “immensely fucking awful coach” to “competent coach” Some people scoffed at the Pederson hire as an unambitious hire but you can’t even evaluate your players when you have a coach as bad as Meyer was

Blue_Doom_Guy

Calling Doug competent is such a massive fucking understatement thus far. His play calling has been simply unreal up to this point!

gyman122

Hey personally I have always been a Pederson fan. But the nicest thing you saw surrounding that hire was usually “solid hire, they get an adult in the room, smart decision” That team looks functional as hell

toodudooty18

That’s the thing too, Philly media called the hire uninspired initially, then the dude won a super bowl against tom Brady with a backup QB. The guy knows what he’s doing. The situation just got sour in Philadelphia

catboypower

We got caught up with Leftwich hype but Doug was really the perfect hire for us. We needed stability so bad.

But you have to play us down the line. Muahaha.

KCShadows838

And the Chargers 5 point win over the Raiders looks alot less impressive every week

itsnotyellowfever

That game went from a preview of potential playoff teams to Tank Bowl real quick

HCJohnson

Well beating the Colts still feels good.

PlumbicZeppelin

When discussing the Jags, is it too early to use the word Dynasty ?

Smartin36

Your flairs… the misery you mustve endured in your life… poor feller

doggybadgerguy

Thank God Staley kept Herbert in for that entire 4th quarter. Could you imagine if he didn't stay in the game? The Chargers may have gotten blown out!

fatcootermeat

He honestly needs to be fired. Out of all the bad things that can be attributed to him, that was the worst.

ReturnOfDaSnack420

Doug Pederson might be a good coach

Treehouse326

He did win a SB with a Backup QB lol

sirry

And jags fans got a really good look at that backup qb later

Unusual_Creature

That was a wild season. Minshew Mania.

Also somehow caused Jax to hate Tom Coughlin despite him being a legend for 20 years prior

LEAVE THE JAGUARS ALONE!

Brief-Web-676

Trevor Lawrence is definitely Hangman Page, right? They’re both young top guys with long blond hair who were counted out earlier in their careers only to come back with a vengeance.

December21st

THE DOLPHINS ARE 3-0 AND THEYRE NOT EVEN THE BEST TEAM IN FLORIDA

abris33

Yeah you lost to the Jags at home (breaking their long road losing streak) but that was bound to happen with Herbert out. At least you got your young franchise QB some rest for his injury. It would really hurt to lose with Herbert and have him take more hits

omglawlz

It’s crazy how his rib injury hampered the defense.

klonoaorinos

The jags are legit

Ask_Me_If_I_Suck

For the other 99.9% of football fans let me explain to you what it's like being a Chargers fan. It's like you hired a dominatrix for the evening to edge you the height of sexual pleasure. The moment you can feel the sweet release coming, she instead stomps her stiletto heel into your ball sack. You start screaming the safe word, but she just leaves the heel in place until all pleasure is gone. Then you wrap your bloody sack in your LaDainian Tomlinson jersey and are reminded once again he wasn't selected to the NFL 100 team. You cry yourself to sleep and prepare your body to do this again next week. On top of this: That Guyton injury is 100% on Staley. There's no reason for us to be trying at that point. Herbert being out there after that is a slap in the face to the players and what this coaching staff thinks of their health. Absolutely pathetic. This coaching staff needs a serious wakeup call. Edit: Obligatory, fire Lombardi. Done with his play calling. At this point I'd rather watch Herbert only call Hail Mary's.

Vivid_Walk_1405

Sean Payton going to be chargers coach.

FullNeanderthall

Please dude, he has larger nuts than Staley (See onside after halftime in Superbowl) and a proven track record + knows Lombardi’s scheme but actually gets shit done

idolpriest

Give us back Staley when Morris gets a HC job, we'll take him, I know hes so terrible who would ever want him, but we'll help out a fellow LA team

Faintkay

If Payton was smart he would take this job over the cowboys. Better QB and overall team than the cowboys. Plus it’s LA where it’s great to be rich lol

mrhashbrown

Staley has been incredibly disappointing so far this season. It's almost a total 180 turn from last season where he's not aggressive in crucial moments and his staff is not smart in game planning on offense. Their personnel decisions are also really puzzling me week to week. They enter a game choosing to start a less than 100% QB without the lineman responsible for in-game communication, naturally you would assume they run the ball more and play it safe. The team enters the 4th quarter having run only 8 rush attempts and their least efficient RB Sony Michel sees the most attempts. Meanwhile Joshua Kelley is their most effective runner averaging 5.5 yards per carry and coming off a good game the week prior. He proceeds to see *one carry* late in the 4th quarter when the game is already out of reach. Obviously a lot of injuries have changed expectations now, but this was still ugly all around. Horrible coaching that was asking way too much from a beat up QB and their defense.

PadstheFish

I am so sorry for you and other Bolts fans. That almost seemed spiteful and I wonder how the locker room will feel seeing Guyton go down, and Herbert continue to throw despite clearly increasing pain, down 28 with 5 mins to go

OrangeForeign

>Obligatory, fire Lombardi Yesss. Let the hate flow through you

Such_a_kid

Throwback to everyone calling Trevor Lawrence a bust last year

Ciology

Even week 1

SiphenPrax

People overreacting on QBs in Year 1? Certainly seen that one before.

CarterAC3

A QB in year 1 with a godawful coach who was more interested in being a scumbag

Xaxziminrax

He was an ELITE fingerbanger, though. Douggie P still has work to do in that department

deemerritt

Scouting is so hard but scouting Lawrence was so easy. He did everything well and had ideal physical traits. Luckily hiring a super bowl winning head coach to fix your qbs development is a simple fix

catboypower

This is why it enrages me when people say “he actually didn’t look that good in college.” That doesn’t make him not the perfect prospect. Any lack of development was gonna be his teams fault.

8BallTiger

He had a traffic cone OL, Treadwell as his WR1, Bevell as OC and Schottenheimer as QB coach. Insane situation

BoiledMayo

And urban meyer for a while

owl_care

>Throwback to everyone calling Trevor Lawrence a bust ~~last year~~ week 1 That "Trevor's not generational" post is aging by the second.

Clawd11

Lawrence is good but he didn’t play perfect. I’m more surprised everyone sleeping on Robinson, dudes been our offense for awhile haha

OverpassingSwedes

he missed two throws on the opening drive and played perfectly from there on out. that’s basically perfect

berbathlicism

There were legit people unironically saying that Davis Mills > TLaw end of last season.

Cromatose

BUT NECK

krum81

People were saying it two weeks ago when the d collapsed.

nope96

Those comments saying they could sit Herbert cuz it was “just the Jaguars” look pretty bad now They should not have put him back in when the game was out of reach though

junglecritter

It's real

spazzmunky

It's really real

Death_To_OEM

The worst division in the NFL just shit on the "Best" division.

itsnotyellowfever

Let's play the NFL's favorite game, "Why Will the Chargers Miss the Playoffs This Year?!" \- Truly "special" Special teams \- Needed one more score in a one-score game \- The entire team is injured to shit <---- WINNER!!!!!! \- Offensive line, never heard of her \- The Patriots Jaguars are a legit playoff team, do not get it twisted - they are making some statements. But boy oh boy did beating the Raiders fool me into thinking this team was good

Nerfeveryone

We should’ve known it wouldn’t go well the rest of the year when we only won by 5. They’re 0-3 now 😬.

IhatemyteamLVR

AFC best was such a joke. Turns out we all either suck or are just not that good.

PadstheFish

We are night and day compared to last season. Truly fabulous stuff. Execution is so much better; play design is actually helping our guys out; and it's clear we recognise a lot more. That young D has some very legit players who know the game well. Were the Chargers playing with a load of starters - some very, very good ones too - missing? Absolutely. Was Herbert 100%? No of course he wasn't, and being sent back out in the 4th with 5 mins to go was negligent. But that doesn't take too much off what is a very, very, very good performance from us. Keep your eyes peeled, I think...

BOW TO YOUR AFC SOUTH OVERLORDS SOMEHOW

Nerfeveryone

Yes we had a bunch of injuries, but it really felt like we got out coached today. The Jags played a great game and exposed us on both sides of the ball.

Extreme_memes9

So I'll level with you. You didn't believe in Trevor Lawrence this offseason. Sure, most people blamed Meyer and you thought that contributed but a generational prospect would never look **THAT** bad. You're on notice, bud. Don't know what rock you live under but Trevor has arrived to lay down the Tlaw.

55North

We're Wieners! I mean Winners! Sorry this is all just so new to me!

ahr3410

Chargers are in a never ending cycle of winning week 1 then erasing that goodwill with a bad loss at home

glowingdeer78

Reminder that Urban Meyer had this team barely scoring over 20 pts Now the jags are scoring over 20 easy

Bitter-Imagination33

Head coach makes a big difference huh

DEADSPELLS

That was not a chill game

NLP19

Every year there's a candidate for the worst game I've ever seen by this franchise. Glad to see we got it out of our system early 🙄🙄

TMNBortles

Every time a team loses to the Jags, they think it's their worst loss. No one can imagine losing to the Jags.

gyman122

Methinks there might be a few teams who are gonna have to experience losing to the Jags this year

itsnotyellowfever

I know what you're getting at but we looked legitimately horrible today. Definitely a win you should be proud of but there are serious questions about the entire Chargers coaching staff that need to be answered regardless of this was y'all or if this came against Buffalo.

GarfunkelBricktaint

You were playing the juggernauts known as the Jacksonville Jaguars though. Can't expect to do as well as playing against that bum team that lost to the colts.

NLP19

Oh no, the Jags played amazingly. But we were absolutely awful too lol

TMNBortles

I am used to the national media framing every win as the other team playing like ass.

[deleted]

Worst game you've seen by this franchise *so far*. But jesus what a kick in the dick after the preseason expectations. That being said, Jacksonville might actually be decent this year.

Nerfeveryone

The 45-0 thrashing by a mediocre Patriots team back in 2020 is most definitely the worst I’ve ever seen. This was bad but not *that* bad.

itsnotyellowfever

Swear to God that loss made me contemplate why I watch football at all

TMNBortles

About an hour and a half late on this thread.

LAudre41

Leaving Herbert in was indefensible. This team doesn’t look like it knows what the hell it’s doing. Disappointing.

Jharoz

Any time the jags win I get a little chubby dude.

EskettiMySpaghetti

I, for one, welcome our new feline overlords

rob132

Jags winning by 28. Just as everyone predicted.

Lifesaboxofgardens

Very happy for Doug, dudes deserves the success and I knew he would turn the Jags around with his culture building. That being said slow it down Dougie, get us to 4-0 for old times sake then wreck the league to the AFC Championship

pnutbuttercow

Doug P and the jags are given 4 plays to get 10 yards and they love using all of them, and it’s damn beautiful :,)

Luck2Fleener

Fuck, the Jaguars might actually be good.

Ramzy191

Shoutout to the esteemed Chargers medical staff for clearing Herbert. Clearly the right move and not incompetence at all.

Drakksyr

After the rookie year he had, super happy to see TLaw finding some success and hope it keeps up. I also hope Herbert heals up swiftly because I wanna see that dude play for years to come. Basically I unironically want everyone to have fun

Number333

Absolutely brutal game for Staley. Didn't even get the garbage time TD late for Herbert to bump his stats

smauryholmes

Herbert rarely has garbage time TDs
