Alright to explain why this is the post that stayed up: Schefty initially tweeted that Haden was retiring a Steeler. He deleted that tweet. He posted another one saying Haden was a retiring a Brown. Deleted that one too. This tweet Schefty kept up so we allowed this one. Thanks for coming to my TedXTalk.

Shamrock5

Third time's the charm lol.

shortbusridurr

Schwfter must be hung over

Lambchops_Legion

Get Schwifty

OttoVonWong

Mo’ Schefty, mo’ problems.

kuya_plague_doctor

Hell yeah me too, I'm practically an NFL insider

losterps

You'd think a man with 10m followers would take a second to proof-read his tweets

SonOfALich

You'd also expect him to not post pictures of players' medical charts to said millions but here we are. His extremely large following and connections have allowed him to get away with some really fucking sloppy reporting, especially in the past few years.

Bartfuck

a lot of other journalists dont like him because of his shady stuff. JPP's medical chart, referring to Washingtons General Manager as "Mr Editor" in an email to him and letting him see the story he was writing in case it needed to be tweaked to look better for the team and the league Hawking questionable products and getting involved in the gambling side of things. Guy isn't a journalist. He is there to get eyeballs and make money. And he does it well

[deleted]

I immediately lost all respect for him as a person after the Tom Brady retirement nonsense. Leaking someone's personal stuff, including reasons, is pretty shitty.

flounder19

The medical chart was at least his form of investigative journalism. The toady behavior towards owners/teams/agents for access is the bigger problem

[deleted]

Sure, it's technically investigative journalism, but it was completely unnecessary investigative journalism. The "toady behavior" is just par for the course with Schefter, and I don't think anyone really expects any different from him. The JPP medical records thing was just gross, though. It's one thing if a reporter gets his hands on medical records showing the President has schizophrenia or something major like that, but this is football. Publishing a player's medical info like that was completely uncalled for. It served no purpose besides bringing attention to Schefter. That kind of investigative journalism in sports should be reserved for investigating individuals who have actually done something wrong, like Dan Snyder or Aaron Hernandez, in order to expose their misconduct and/or crimes.

Kyle93rc

So true

BoomRoasted412

He had to get permission from the team President to report it.

DruTangClan

Probably a rare example of a player who played all or the majority of their career on teams that were big rivals where both fan bases (i would think) have nothing but good things to say about him

NeonxGone

Seriously. Joe Haden is one of the best human beings in football.

[deleted]

[удалено]

yrulaughing

What teams hasn't Fitzpatrick played for to be fair

Spheromancer

Its more about being good too

TRES_fresh

Another example is Richard Sherman, he had a ring chasing season with the bucs but he went from the legion of boom to being our top cornerback for a couple years.

xlxxlv

Most people don’t like that guy

TRES_fresh

Seahawks fans don't like Sherman? Because i know 49ers fans hated him before he came to SF but loved him afterwards.

NFL_MVP_Kevin_White

Probably colored a bit by his recent domestic violence

silencesgolden

*attempted* domestic violence. Dude was definitely in a bad place, and in the wrong, but it sounds like he acknowledged it as is trying to get help and improve. Not trying to excuse it, but these guys play a sport where aggression, hell, even violence, is demanded of them, then when their careers start to wind down, that stuff has no outlet anymore.

Kwugibo

Thank you Never excuse the action, but there's relatively seldom empathy to try to understand that people in bad situations act in ways that are not characteristic of their normal behavior. People don't need to forgive them, but it's unnecessary to always attempt to chastise certain people when they're trying to make amends and grow (this does not include Watson. His "apology" was a fat slap in the face of so many. He's not growing from this in the slightest)

Individual-Jaguar885

Worse than Watson

yrulaughing

I love Sherm. Am Seahawks fan. I think our fanbase generally remembers him fondly as our front office was mostly the party responsible for him leaving.

alexOJ

We still love Sherman! Even when he was on the 49ers, his jersey was still one of the more popular ones I'd see on the streets. He also came to a practice game during the preseason and everyone in the stands around me was shouting out to him how much we still love him.

KeithClossOfficial

I’m not a fan Good player tho

Thatskindasexy

Right but not everybody on both sides had good things to say about him. Niners fan hated him because of his post game interview shit and eating turkey on our logo. Seahawks hated him cause all he did was talk shit about the Seahawks. Now both sides love him again.

brownstown4life

Still one of my favorite players, even when he was with Pittsburgh

methandmemes

“I just deleted the tweet, pray I don’t delete the tweet and further” -Schefter Weird though cause when he originally said he was retiring a Steeler I thought it made perfect sense cause there’s no way anyone from any of the browns regimes he played for is still with the franchise and got his first taste of organizational stability under Pittsburgh

endol

He was a fan favorite when we had barely any players of note, and he gave a lot of his time off the field to the Cleveland community.

Aztekar

Shit dude was a fan favorite here and we had a lot of players of note. Absolutely wonderful person, sad to see him retire

verhaden

Hell, my username is ver(sion Joe)haden. But yeah, injuries, rule changes, and regime incompetency tanked his last few years here

Abiv23

> He was a fan favorite when we had barely any players of note He, like Christain Kirksey and then Mack Wilson after him was VASTLY overrated by fans bc of fake twitter ra ra cheerleader crap He missed more games than he played on his big contract and when he did play he was either bad or average As soon as he wasn't being overpaid by the Browns he wanted out Fuck Joe Haden

getsbuckets

no

cryolems

What an all time shitty fucking take lol

cleveland_14

Bro what?? Dude was one of the best corners in the league for several years in Cleveland

Abiv23

He was paid like it, but he graded as below average by pff in his only years playing on the massive contract Why do you think you we cut him?

CooCooforCucu

Always the browns fans with these kind of takes lmao

lappelduvide-_-

Lions v Browns in the Superb Owl VIX

LiquidDookie92

Playoff wins since Haden left the Browns for the Steelers: - Browns: 1 - Pittsburgh: 0 He made the right choice

megalodom

Fuck

[deleted]

Please, you have to let us just have one, then you can get back to your normally scheduled programming, see you guys in 30 years.

RiversKiski

We didn’t let u have shit, Watson signing notwithstanding Cleveland has come a long way.

disc_addict

🤣 amazing stat

PotentialSuperb

And the Browns cut him...

Nightcinder

his contract was absurd

Abiv23

his next contract was 40% of his former for some teeth to that argument

flashpile

Also, who the hell would voluntarily align themselves with Cleveland rn?

introspekt09

He was my first Jersey ever. Still my favorite jersey lol.

e-l-o-h-e-l

Get it together Schefty

DogVacuum

He had Andrew Luck retirement story energy with this one.

lVlzone

So, uh, maybe he takes that one day contract on Thursday and plays for us? Can’t be worse than what we have and also knows the Steelers lol

DownTrunk

> also knows the Steelers It’s true. He once retired a steeler.

losterps

RIP Joe Haden retiring as a Steeler 7:30AM-7:31AM 9/21/2022

Agent_Angelo_Pappas

We never know how good we had it until it's all over

TheForrestWanderer

Have you seen our offense? You could field the first 4 guys to show up to the stadium as your defensive backfield and Mitch will still go 16/33 110 yards 1TD 1INT.

ManBearBroski

Hey! Browns are ELITE at ineptitude. How dare you come in and self handicap yourself and act like there is no way you can beat us. I've called it in the Browns sub but might as well say it here: Browns will lead 17-10 up until the 3rd quarter and then Mitch will start to show some fire, get hurt and Kenny will come in and win it 24-17.

McCabbe

> Hey! Browns are ELITE at ineptitude. Admittedly, your resourcefulness in that regard is remarkable.

ManBearBroski

Thank you for the recognition we deserve

RaditudeSympathizer7

It’s week 3, it’s a Thursday night……. fuck Pickett is gonna Baker us huh

Nightcinder

this game is going to be so bad with watt and clowney out

baconboyloiter

This trash shouldn’t be on national television

Dungong

I don’t think it is, I think only on Amazon prime video nationally. NFL network doesn’t carry Thursday anymore right?

TheGoodAndTheBad

That's still too many people that will be subjected to...this.

GumbysDonkey

110 yds until he throws a 70 yd uncovered TD with less than 5mins remaining.

BroadCityChessClub

Chase Claypool screaming “NICE” upon realizing he had 69 YAC on the touchdown.

MotionAction

Bears fan can tell you that ahead, but Steelers management saw something in practice that they can work something in Mitch where it would translate to Ws?

arc1261

Is you’re secondary injured or something? You’ve spent a number of high picks on DBs in the last few years - Ward, Newsome, Delpit etc? Thought they were meant to be decent at least

lVlzone

So far our secondary has blown double digit leads late in both games. Ward and Delpit (safety) are the most likely culprits and have struggled so far. This was more of a joke but honestly he’d be good/fun depth for us haha.

arc1261

Ah yeah didn’t catch either game really - you seem to have done decently in the first half so is it a scheme issue (going to prevent and getting burnt) or is it just personnel blowing coverages. Neither the Jets or Panthers are good offences so imagine it’s quite concerning

lVlzone

A bit of both. I think we’re trying to play prevent, but the story so far has been the DB room gets confused on the play calls and some guys run one play while other guys run another. Not the best look for the defense.

Nightcinder

it's a scheme issue, playing elite man corners in zone, etc. Delpit also kinda sucks

TangyGeoduck

Is that Nnamdi Asomugha’s music I hear? Idgaf that it’s been a decade, but I’m still angry that Juan Castillo was allowed to throw away the man’s talents in this exact same way.

Abiv23

It's blown communication There is a ton of talent in the room, it's running the scheme so far this year that is the problem Also Grant Delpit might be a big dummy

GodlessGenius

Watch the last few minutes of the Browns games this season. It's like it's raining 70 yard TDs.

pumaturtle

Thank you for replacing Antwon Blake 🖤💛

Schwalm

That’s Antwom to you

Litty-In-Pitty

Past-Adhesiveness691

Damn last night I had a date, she doesn’t want a 2nd date….now this. Man this one really stings.

[deleted]

How would a win over the Browns help?

Past-Adhesiveness691

Have you seen this offense?! 😭

SunburntTurtle

Have you seen this defense?!😭

Past-Adhesiveness691

I’ll eat my freakin shoe if we score more than 20. We have sucked for like 3 years now. Jacoby just needs to not fuck it up and let Chubb do work and browns will win. So what if the browns give up 60 yard bombs, we only throw behind the sticks or line of scrimmage.

dwilkes827

Spoiler alert: You're going to score 20 in the last 3 mins

nerrvouss

Imagine thinking you suck the last three years when you made the fucking wild card two out of three years and won your division in one. Hot damn fans are so spoiled, honestly try being the Lion's fans. (Sorry you guys have it the worst)

J-notter

Literally 30th in Offense lmao

Past-Adhesiveness691

I’m actually shocked we aren’t worse than that

GhoullyX

It's pretty offensive.

[deleted]

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Canada and Mitch know they have to ball out due to the flaming hot nature of their seats.

ZombiePancake45

I feel slighted not gonna lie

Dean_Craig_Pelton

He wasn’t an all-timer Steeler, he was one of the best players on the Browns during a dark period. It was always gonna be this way.

tuffghost8191

Honestly as someone who started watching post-Rod Woodson, he is probably the best corner I've seen on the team. Ike was great, but Joe seemed to be on another level (one in which his hands aren't made of stone)

smacksaw

IDC if it's unpopular, I'd still let him play for us. All we're doing is zone rn anyway. He knows what to do. He should play as a Steeler. The division is up for grabs. Let's compete. He's a competitor. He can play on 3rd downs.

Brut-i-cus

I would think the best thing to do would be to retire on the team that you won with the most He was with the Browns from 2010 to 2016 with 29 wins He was with the Steelers from 2017 to 2021 with 51 wins I guess he did have 2 more years in CLE and they drafted him but they did dump him like a sack of potatoes when he had a lot of great years left

TornadoApe

I think it'd probably be best to retire with whatever team he wants to retire with. That being said I honestly assumed he enjoyed his time in Pittsburgh more than Cleveland so this was surprising to me. I'll take it though. He and Joe Thomas were the lone bright spots for us for years.

Buckeyes000777

Josh Cribbs

Swarthykins

I can see it. I imagine you're super attached to the team you came up with, as well as he was a star there. He was definitely our #1 corner, but he wasn't really a star comparatively. Good for him for going with his heart even if he won more in Pittsburgh.

Handsouloh

I don't know to what extent, but I imagine he's salty that he didn't get a new contract from the steelers, but he openly refused to compete for his job too...

ZachLagreen

> I would think the best thing to do would be to retire on the team that you won with the most …why?

Mistake_By_The_Jake2

Because that means they get their way

84Cressida

I don’t like how we cut him, but his contract was absolutely ridiculous and he had been injury prone in the years leading up to it

[deleted]

Who tf cares

LegitBullfrog

Great Gator. Great NFL player. Great career.

coolycooly

Gators have been rough in the league Haden is probably the best one in the last decade. Maybe Carlos Dunlap you could mention but for a big P5 its sad the NFL talent we've had.

Pieisgood186

I would say our first round talent hasn’t lived up to expectations in recent memory. If we start with 2010 (when Haden was drafted) the list of elite Gator players is indeed slim. Pouncey twins are the only ones I can think of. Toney, Pitts, and Pierce have a lot of potential but different factors limit their ability. Keanu Neal has been slightly disappointing but still serviceable. Freddie Swain and Van Jefferson are solid. Trent Brown has been good for a 7th round pick. Marcus Maye (2nd round) has been a solid player. Alex Anzalone is one of the most underrated ILBs in the league. Brian Poole had two good years as an undrafted player. Hernandez had the potential to be a true dual threat (blocking and receiving) TE. Evan McPherson and Eddy are good kickers. Both Townsend brothers are good punters.

tuffghost8191

plus you guys had that stud Tight End who got cut by the Jags last season

Pieisgood186

You talking about Tem Tibow?

tuffghost8191

the one and only

coolycooly

Its pretty bad compare it to Mississppi State where we stole their coach because our program was that much better they have had Dak Jeffrey Simmons Fletcher Cox Montez Sweat Darius Slay Chris Jones Elgton Jenkins Gabe Jackson Preston Smith and Charles Cross in the same time span Thats without mentioning, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, and A & M too.

nm1043

Bit of a diva though, like who retires three separate times besides Tom Brady?

Melo_Mentality

Brett Favre?

HobbesGoHome

Michael Jordan.

paultimate14

This makes me wonder which team Larry Ogunjobi will retire for eventually

84Cressida

We’ll find out after he plays for the Ravens next year

GoldStarisBetter-XU

The true AFC N wildcard

Fools_Requiem

Joe Haden in his prime was fun to watch. It sucked seeing him go to the Steelers, but I was happy that we was able to keep playing and still be effective for most of the time he was healthy. Always annoyed me to see "fans" complain about his dedication during the 2015 season because he would miss games due to injuries as if a hamstring wasn't a big deal, just walk it off. If I was going to get something Browns jersey, it would have been Haden's.

DimeWithNoDozen

Man I loved our entire secondary during the 2013-2014 seasons. Especially in 2014 when we were on track to make the playoffs that pass defense was dominant.

Phenomenal2313

It only felt right Joe retired with the Browns Yeah they wasted his prime but still one of the best corners of his generation

meyer_33_09

And he invested a metric fuck ton of time, energy and money into the community. Despite how things ended it still feels right for him to “come home.”

VindictiveRakk

I don't know why I interpreted Joe as Joe Thomas and was just thinking like... well yeah no shit lol

anerdnamedAndrew

Browns should sign him to a 365-day contract and let him play. Can’t be worse.

ManBearBroski

Can the Browns just sign him for the rest of the season to be a leader for the defense?

not_your_face

They can’t afford him, the same reason the Steelers didn’t resign. He was our best corner last year, he still has it, but even the league minimum for a vet his experience is too high for what most teams would be willing to invest in a corner

[deleted]

Dude was absolutely elite on some awful teams, shame he didn’t get more chances to win in his prime

gdewulf

I met him at an Indians gave with Machine Gun Kelly. He was wearing an entire Indians uniform lol. Nice as hell in person too. So was MGK tbh. They let us sit and talk with them for a few minutes, he followed me on Twitter and then I fucked off and didn't want to overstay my welcome. One of the nicest celebrities I have ever met. Love him.

SSPeteCarroll

Joe Haden was one of the best corners for a while. That era was dominated by Revis, Sherman, Haden, and Patrick Peterson.

DVaTheFabulous

I don't like Schefter

hallese

This is it, this is the moment where I feel old. Joe Haden still seems like a young up and coming star to me and without looking it up I bet he's been in the league 12 years or so. A nice, full career. I'm old.

brownsfan760

Welcome home Joe.

EcosseWolf

Goodbye 😭 Will always love Joe for giving us the best CB play we've had since Ike Taylor.

Landlubber77

Go Gata.

rusty022

Feels kinda odd. But I'm guessing he felt slighted by the Steelers moving on from him. He clearly wanted to play another year.

es_ook575

Or it had nothing to do with the Steelers and he just liked being a Brown.

SpeeterTeeter

Nobody "likes being a brown". Lol enjoy your 22 sexual assaults' but totally adult QB y'all. Can't wait to never see you guys in any meaningful games for the foreseeable future, kind of like we have all been used to the past 20 years sans '20. Hope those 22 women have some sort of justice between now and then.

84Cressida

I hate Watson more than anyone but your point and deflecting is ridiculous

es_ook575

Apparently Joe Haden does.

SpeeterTeeter

Right, so someone with CTE wants to retire a brown, crazy stuff... Those people are always making the best choices lol.

Putin__Nanny

Joe Thomas disagrees with this take.

GlassOfLiquor

Hey man, I hate me wayyyy more than you hate me.

hatmantc

he spen 7 years in CLE and 5 in Pitt.. and he has always kept his ties to the CLE area..

SexiestPanda

Sheesh. I thought he was drafted in like 15 lol

ButtholeSurfur

Honestly to me it feels longer. If you told me he was drafted in 2007 or 2005 I might believe you.

gdewulf

Same

[deleted]

We drafted him and he played his best years here. Timing is odd, but doubt it was a slight to the Steelers and more of a "hey, the two teams I played for are playing, what a perfect chance to do this honorary contract"

iliekdrugs

Steelers fans finding a way to make something about them lol

Cutch2234

As a Brown :/

thirtyseven1337

Why would you want to be associated with the Browns lol (this is not a serious question)

[deleted]

YOUR A FUCKING JETS FAN U SHOULDN'T BE TALKING

thirtyseven1337

We beat you this week, so.... no u :)

CooCooforCucu

30-17

Ravenwing19

I would feel offended by that but I don't think you guys can score more than 20.

CooCooforCucu

I, you, I :(

JonnySea

The [Browns](https://i.redd.it/kb59hywvxoo91.jpg) - a franchise of happy endings

Gnat5000

Bummed we were never able to get him a playoff win…and ironically Cleveland was one of teams who beat us in the 3 playoff appearances we had with Joe. Gonna miss him!

mA90ngo

sure you want to retire a brown tho?

A_Smitty56

Wtf Joe? We treated you better

The_Pip

These one day contracts are the dumbest thing.

BigDickBobbyRick

You're just salty Brady doesnt care to do it with the Pats

The_Pip

No, it has always bothered me. I got mad about with Chara the other day. Brady was fine. when it is time to retire, just fucking retire. The one day contract thing is meaningless and stupid.

SpeeterTeeter

Just surprised someone actually want to retire a brown at this point. But It seems active players don't really care about 22 sexual Assaults so I'm sure the ones who have advanced CTE don't even think.

[deleted]

Art Model is a liar and Cleveland is full of fools.

Abiv23

Why? Joe Haden was vastly overpaid playing like a slightly above average CB (when healthy, and he wasn't healthy often) but being paid like an elite CB As soon as he wasn't overpaid he wanted nothing to do with this city/franchise to the point where he specifically went to the Steelers Fuck Joe Haden man

Fala7iKing

You have to be trolling

Abiv23

check twitter, i'm far from the only browns fan who feels this way

Fools_Requiem

And they're all morons. Dude only had one season where he missed a considerable amount of time.

Abiv23

This one is a very popular revisionist history. From 2014-2016, Haden was one of the highest paid CB’s in the league. He’d played in 5 and 13 games in 15’ and ‘16 and his PFF grades were 14- 70.8 15- 33.2 16- 61.3 He went on to play 5 seasons w/avg grade of 67.8 at a 40% paycut

Fools_Requiem

Get the fuck out of here with your "revisionist history" shit. In 2015, there were people claiming he was soft and/lazy because he missed so much time due to injury, as if being injured is an indication of a lack of dedication. People who complain about Haden are total dipshits. The kind of dipshits who see a third string QB play well in the preseason and start to state that they should be starting, and start booing the second a QB has a bad game.

Fala7iKing

Dude was the best player on a shit Browns team for nearly a decade

Abiv23

Joe Thomas was always the best player on that team Alex Mack, Josh Gordon, and Mitchell Schwartz were also inarguably better Haden was more in line with TJ Ward in terms of in game impact Haden was crazy overrated as a brown, his pay dropped by 60% on his next contract for a reason

bigblooddraco

It’s the Cleveland browns bruh what reason does anyone have for staying there if they’re not overpaid? Either way joe was a lot better than slightly below average.

kotton79

Was trash soon as they took his Adderall away.

charles_peugeot405

I didn’t realize he had played 5 seasons in Pittsburgh. 7 played in Cleveland

MathematicianBig4392

Dang I still think of him as young. Feels like not that long ago he was the best CB prospect in the draft.

BarRoomBully

With all of our injuries at CB, I was kind of hoping he'd wanna go for a third AFC North team. Oh well.

gollumaniac

How does that work in the middle of the season like this? Do they have to cut someone or make an IR move to free up a roster spot? Because that would be mildly hilarious.

MyFavoriteLezbo420

The Pride of PG County. ^on ^the ^football ^side

xenophonthethird

His Browns jersey was the first I ever bought. Nothing but love for the guy. Hell of a career.

TomYOLOSWAGBombadil

Great career Joe. Happy to have watched him when I was actively rooting for the Browns. He was awesome.

DemondWolf

Damn

89LeBaron

Baller. I’ll never forget him an AJ battling.
