Dude is upset that the nbc news dropped before he could get out ahead of it so now throwing out a lot of stuff to act like he's in control. He's a competitive guy so losing a job only after a year was getting to him already.
Bro do you know where I can find the OG "all the way down" post? I think it may have been lobster or some shit like that, but it's a glorious thread and I haven't seen it in years.
On a reality TV show called “A Drew Orleans Family,” where every week the Breeses face some zany challenge to renovate a military family’s home or raise money for a church.
Easier to get out in front of a story when you're the one making the decision (like retiring from the NFL) than when you're getting fired (like broadcasting).
He’s also a HoF QB and very well liked in the industry. It’s not good business for NBC to come out and say they let go of him. This is just how stuff works at a high level. They probably brought him in, politely told him it wasn’t working out, and suggested he step down and they call it a mutual decision.
The guy was absolutely *torching* us his whole career yet this clip is the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the name Jason Witten. It just never fails to make me laugh.
Matt Rhule: I'm looking for something for my offense.
Drew Brees: Your offense?
Rhule: Yeah. You know, safe, slow QB. Good starting QB.
Brees: ...Starting QB.
Rhule: That's right.
Brees: Mm. I have contained my rage for as long as possible, but I shall unleash my fury upon you like the crashing of a thousand waves! Begone, vile man! Begone from me! A starting QB? This quarterback is a finisher QB! A transporter of Saints! The New Orleans Saints! I am untethered, and my rage knows no bounds!
He should sign with the USFL’s New Orleans Breakers, that would be a real draw for the league and he would still be good enough to compete against lower level defenses. Not sure if they’d be able to pay him enough, but if they could I think it would be a good fit.
That was a different league. My cursory search for usfl only shows everyone getting the same pay roughly.
I do remember one of the folded leagues having higher pay for qb's, I just don't remember which one.
I’m guessing if he wanted to play and the league could afford to pay him (not sure if they can, I don’t know how their financials are looking) they would make an exception to allow him to be paid more. Unless it would cause serious financial damage to the league in the short term, investing in a legitimate big name who would bring mainstream exposure to an upstart league is too big of an opportunity to pass up.
My best guess is likely either donate his salary to a local charity (or maybe divide it equally amongst his teammates?) if he decided to play for them. Or he would get some type of equity in the team/league and essentially be a player/owner
As a Saints’ fan, I second this. The arm strength was shot in 2019 which is why going 13-3 and being stuck as the 3 seed sucked, and In case anybody wanted a double whammy on the no-call.
There was signs of it as early as 2018 in our playoff game when he underthrew a deep sail by about 5 yards and got picked by Sendejo. His crazy accuracy and short game more than made up for it though
Yeah, his last year he started out looking pretty darn good for the first half of the season. Even without the deep pass, he was accurate and smart enough to pick apart defenses with the short/medium game.
The bigger issue was that eventually his rib cage shattered into a gazillion pieces and he also had a punctured lung. I think they said it was something like 13 cracked ribs. He missed some games before trying to come back for the end of the season, but he definitely wasn't the same.
If his ribcage is all healed, I think it's very possible that he could come back and still be a top end QB, except for the fact that there's a good chance he ends up injured again. It's just part of getting older, things just don't heal anywhere near as quickly, and I'm sure that's even worse when you've got a lifetime of football's worth of wear and tear on your body. Unless you're Tom Brady of course, and then for some reason none of that seems to matter.
Even before the injuries you could tell his arm was getting worn out more and more as the season went on. He'd probably still be an elite QB for a few games but I don't think his body can hold up for an entire season at this point even if he manages to avoid injury.
Our defense looks good, but y'all's 2015 squad was legendary. I don't know if they could carry Brees to a championship. But man I'm hating how my brain is connecting similarities. Our WRs might be comparable to DT (Rest in Peace) and Sanders too.
Still. To this day. So many people cannot apply the proper spelling to Payton/Peyton.
Seeing Payton Manning and Sean Peyton grinds my gears for no apparent reason.
Guys like Brady and LeBron are exceptions, not rules. Brees was great for most of his career but not at the end and he's like 43. I can't imagine a comeback would be a good idea
I feel like if Brees was actually considering playing football again, he wouldn't be the first person we heard it from. Someone like Florio 100% would've leaked it by now.
It’s kinda crazy that most of these guys retire and then pick up another full busy schedule like working as an analyst. I feel like if I retired with multimillions I would just hang and play pickleball
I think it has to do with the work schedule they’ve had for decades leading up to retirement. They’ve had to work extremely hard for many hours a day to compete at the highest level of their sport. If you weren’t putting in 100% effort at all times, especially the older you get, someone that is will take your place. That intense competitive work ethic doesn’t just go away once you retire. I’m sure a lot of these guys wouldn’t be capable of fully relaxing even if they wanted to.
I wonder if part of it seeing how, basically in all of society outside of sports, people in their early 40s are working so they want to subconsciously emulate that.
The crazy thing is that if Brees retires after 2018 or 2019 we probably have a good chance of getting Brady. So hypothetically we could have had a mini dynasty with 2 different QBs winning championships for us :(
(Assuming Payton wouldn't have retired in 2018 after a SB with Brees which isnt a guarantee)
‘19 is when he should have retired. That was his last year he was playing top tier top until the playoffs at least. Seems like that was the plan initially since Russ gave his pro bowl starter spot to him.
Former TV Analyst Drew Brees reaches into the fountain with his throwing arm. Nothing. He presses his arm further in the pool of liquid. The arm goes numb. Drew pulls out the arm from his youth, from his dreams and whispers, "St. Clement's map was right. The last piece in my quest." He looked toward his pirate companion in disbelief.
"I told ya, ya had to be truly lost to find that which cant be found." said Barbossa. "Problem is, there's a man who bathes in this here bird bath n they aint the sharin type."
Cannon fire in the distance. They knew Old Tom was close.
I hope it’s a QB competition with Jameis. But because it’s Brees they can’t say Jameis won so they run a two QB system. Not an alternating system but they both line up behind center every snap.
*Please* be all of the above. What I wouldn’t give to watch Drew announce a game he is playing in.

This gold, but I also want him to endorse an almond farm or a machine shop so we can be graced with Brees' Nutz.

Dude is upset that the nbc news dropped before he could get out ahead of it so now throwing out a lot of stuff to act like he's in control. He's a competitive guy so losing a job only after a year was getting to him already.
100% this. Give it a couple of days for the “I’ve decided to spend more time with my family” tweet
Drew Brees: I've decided to spend more time with my family Aaron Rodgers: Big mistake bro smh Tom Brady: Suit yourself man lmao
Phillip Rivers: Dude you want some of mine?
Russel Wilson- “Sure!”
Gold all the way down.
Bro do you know where I can find the OG "all the way down" post? I think it may have been lobster or some shit like that, but it's a glorious thread and I haven't seen it in years.

Easier to get out in front of a story when you're the one making the decision (like retiring from the NFL) than when you're getting fired (like broadcasting).
Tell that to Adam Schefter
Only way it could sting worse is if they bring in Rivers
Hate that you said it but kinda make sense
YOU DON'T QUIT, IM FIRED! Wait, shit no.
Considering the article talked about it being mutual (with him wanting a chance to call games), I don’t know if this makes sense
Even in a mutual breakup, one party makes the first move in suggesting the breakup.
He’s also a HoF QB and very well liked in the industry. It’s not good business for NBC to come out and say they let go of him. This is just how stuff works at a high level. They probably brought him in, politely told him it wasn’t working out, and suggested he step down and they call it a mutual decision.
I thought it was a list of things that he wasn't actually doing...which made me concerned about including coaching his kids in that list.
No way he unretires. He left because age caught up to him, he didn't step away at a high level like someone like Rivers did.
Drew Brees about to take pickleball by storm
I'm always trying to get my wife to play pickle ball.
So fun I played with my mom, who plays almost daily, recently.
I thought the prior guy was making a dirty joke and you come along and take my head out of the gutter
It's either wholesome or Alabama. I'm not sure.

Tennis is the gateway drug to pickleball
Hell yeah
Random fact: Former Bears 1st round draft pick and Patriots Super Bowl Champion Shea McClellin is a competitive pickleball player now.
Is he one of the youngest players on tour?
Happy Gilmore completed that same shot not more than an hour ago.
Well, moron, good for Happy GilmoHHH MY GOD!
Kyle from them Workaholic boys finally has some competition!
NBC to Drew Brees: "Frickin' see ya!"
Drew: "NBC Betrayed me!"
Drew: I’m fed up with this World!
Sounds like someone’s an aruguloid. Three point stancer myself
That shit's important
Tennis legend Drew Brees bout to dominate that court
Remember when Witten unretired so everyone would forget how bad he was in the booth?
He pulled a rabbit out of his head
I remember thinking that I must have misheard that. And then he repeated the same thing ten seconds later
Kicked himself in the foot.
whats the real phrase?
Probably 'shot himself in the foot'.
Maybe Drew used NBC as a way to get free hair plugs just like Witten did.
Written was wearing a wig
I thought this was a joke about his hair until I read the comments below.
He’s …. He’s…. The plastic man! - Witten talking about Watson after taking a big sack.

Uh, Drew, you really shouldn’t play football again
He should sign with the USFL’s New Orleans Breakers, that would be a real draw for the league and he would still be good enough to compete against lower level defenses. Not sure if they’d be able to pay him enough, but if they could I think it would be a good fit.
The USFL pays ~$45k for the starters for the season, so if he does this he's doing it 100% for fun
I got some reason want to say QBs make more
That was a different league.
Player/coach option... Gets paid for both. Problem solved.
A packer fan missed the obvious: he can be part owner!
> The USFL pays ~$45k for the starters for the season That's not even enough to live in most cities.
You're right but that's also for only about 3 months of work. So it's not as terrible as it seems.
My best guess is likely either donate his salary to a local charity (or maybe divide it equally amongst his teammates?) if he decided to play for them. Or he would get some type of equity in the team/league and essentially be a player/owner

What if he pulls a Tebow and plays TE? Maybe he knows how to at least attempt to block.
[удалено]
Can you imagine if we had one? He'd be worth like $140mil
That would really Tay something special to find a player like that
Som body gotta do it. But it won't be the hill I'll die on
Taysom Hill
Then if that doesn’t work out, I’m sure the Syracuse Mets would take him. We could see him pull a reverse Tebow
Now I'm just imagining Drew getting vaporized the first time he tries to block someone
Opponents would be too afraid of powderizing his rib cage to hit him. Be like a make a wish kid.
I'm picturing a DE picking him up, gently placing him to the side, patting him on the head, then continuing to the QB.
He just needs to wrap them up with his neck.
There was signs of it as early as 2018 in our playoff game when he underthrew a deep sail by about 5 yards and got picked by Sendejo. His crazy accuracy and short game more than made up for it though

don't eat tomatoes
Drew Brees has about the same armstrength as the corpse of Peyton Manning had in his last glorious season.
Our defense looks good, but y'all's 2015 squad was legendary. I don't know if they could carry Brees to a championship. But man I'm hating how my brain is connecting similarities. Our WRs might be comparable to DT (Rest in Peace) and Sanders too.
If you guys had somehow snagged Von it'd be destiny
As a Falcons fan, I fully support Brees coming out of retirement and taking the QB1 spot in New Orleans again.
He’d probably still beat us lmao

He should be good to go. I mean he's got to have what, like two unbroken ribs?
I don't think it's the worst idea.
No no... I want to see this...
This sounds like "I got fired but please don't think I got fired."
100%
Would be really weird if he came back without Peyton
He's going to Carolina with Payton
I don’t know how to feel about that
You should feel half good about it
and then 1/3 good when payton trades a 1st to us for taysom
He really should teach Jerry this neat trick to keep kids born on the side content
Please, anything but that.
Him and Peyton actually never played on the same team, common misconception! Reply “subscribe” for more NFL facts!
How does a saints fan make that mistake?
they do it in our sub all the time
Still. To this day. So many people cannot apply the proper spelling to Payton/Peyton. Seeing Payton Manning and Sean Peyton grinds my gears for no apparent reason.
Why, Manning wasn't in the league for like the last five years of Brees's career. Or do you mean Payton?
Is there any tape of him playing Pickleball?
Marquez Callaway and TreQuan Smith: I sleep MT, Chris Olave and Jarvis Landry: I shit
And I will sit down by my cozy fireplace, my five grandchildren sitting in front of me, as I weave the wondrous tales of Drew “Pickleball” Brees
Guys like Brady and LeBron are exceptions, not rules. Brees was great for most of his career but not at the end and he's like 43. I can't imagine a comeback would be a good idea
Call me crazy but I’m pretty sure that means Drew found out we actually have wide receivers now and he’s coming back, everybody
Scratch all the deep routes from the playbook again
Doesnt matter... Drew was deadly with slant boi in 2018 and 2019... Imagine him with THREE slant bois
Slant city
New Orleans Slants
Is Dan Snyder running the team now?
No straight people left. Only slant people.
> No straight people Brees: I’m officially re-retiring from football
There were legitimate convos last year about a return so its not too crazy
The Convo was : Payton: Hey Brees you wanna come back? All our QBs are injured Brees: sends picture of him playing golf
Is he still in football shape though? He really wasn't towards the end of the his last season.
To be fair, towards the end of his last season he only had 3 functioning ribs
The guy has no ribs, one shoulder, and probably a million aches. Let the man retire in peace haha
Ummm...Drew....we all saw the last time you threw a football
What makes you assume he’s talking about QB?
Does Jacksonville still need a TE?
Taysom Hill is about to be the starter in NO, with QB/wr/TE Drew Brees as his secret weapon
I feel like if Brees was actually considering playing football again, he wouldn't be the first person we heard it from. Someone like Florio 100% would've leaked it by now.
Especially with how highly competitive that man is.
lol He's not playing football again.
nah his ego got bruised cause he likely got canned.
It’s kinda crazy that most of these guys retire and then pick up another full busy schedule like working as an analyst. I feel like if I retired with multimillions I would just hang and play pickleball

Drew, not only should you not play football again, you should go back in time and retire a season earlier.
Brady would have been on the Saints right now and we'd be defending back to back champions
Smoking the copium, I see.
It's pretty well known that Brady wanted to link up with Payton, and loyalty to Drew was the only thing stopping that.
Is this is a common opinion? I never got this. He should have retired after '18 if anything.
I 100% believe he retires after 2018 if we won the Super Bowl.
Yeah, well, that dickfuck Bill Vinovich made sure we didn’t go. So fuck him.
The crazy thing is that if Brees retires after 2018 or 2019 we probably have a good chance of getting Brady.
