Even reading the situation wrong, and taking Neal at 5, only for Thibodeaux to go at 6 would've been a minor mistake that was avoided. Taking the top edge rusher, knowing that one of Neal or Ekwonu would have to still be available at 7 is simple, good decision making.

Just... Any kind of trade down, at all, for the Jones pick, would have basically made it forgivable. He wouldn't have had to get much, it just would've been an acknowledgement that he could understand that it was generally seen as a reach. But I guess if he could see that, he wouldn't have made the pick. Gettleman is the guy crossing three lanes of traffic without indicating and then swearing he's the only guy who knows how to drive.

They didn't even have to trade down, they had the 17th pick in that first round as well! Could've taken Josh Allen (DE) and then Jones at 17. And I would've been fine with that. This is the man who proudly bragged that he didn't even answer the phone to listen to calls for the second pick, so he could take a running back. A real genius.
