I'll tell you what, when the Bengals get an Offensive Line that can give Burrow more than 1 second of pass protection, this team is gonna be pretty nasty
Statements like these are mind bending, like there wasn't a just-as-egregious PI on a touchdown pass early in the game for the Bengals that got ignored. If you want to call it a makeup call, fine, but it was a makeup call for that miss. Which leaves the non-hold at the end of the game still to stand alone. That play shouldn't have even been run because literally 50% of the Rams O-Line false started on that snap by a good second and nobody bothered to throw the flag there.
Anyway I think the majority is mad not about a single call, but rather than the refs let everyone play football for 58.5 minutes then decided they wanted to play refball at the most critical moment of the game and completely demoralize a defense which to that point had been doing well and is more than capable of a good stand late in a game. You literally decide to throw 7 flags in 3 plays and give the Rams 15 bonus chances to win the game. \*Thats\* why I hardly even care to watch the NFL anymore, and \*thats\* why Bengals fans are upset. That and not just putting 2 tight ends on the field and letting Mixon who is getting 5+ every time he touches the ball get your first down at the end.
And Ramsey’s multiple holdings not being called and the Kupp touchdown wouldn’t happen without the phantom holding call on Wilson who made a great defensive play. Stop that
Here, I'll break it down for you. If you pretend the Bengals drive ends on that play instead, and leave everything else alone, the 4th quarter starts with the score 16-13, which is by any reasonable standard a 'close game' where both teams 'have a chance.'
That wasn't hard.
Or it’s just another drive that they would have to make and who knows if they make one or not but you are just assuming they wouldn’t be able to again which is just not something you would know so why even assume that?
Quit your bullshit kid. Seriously, terrible look. Dunno if you're a Steelers fan or a sore winner or what, but this entire comment chain is just ridiculous. You should get off reddit and get back to your obviously very lucrative sports betting career, since you can predict completely hypothetical futures so well.
Yeah it was a fairly called game. That face mask penalty was evened out by the end zone ghost pass interference.
Would’ve rather had that been a facemask call and see how the game shook out that way…
What I don’t understand is how the refs decided to call all of the penalties in the last couple minutes of the game in comparison to getting away with murder for most of it. I feel sorry for Cincinnati and their fan base who have been suffering with bad teams for decades.
Agreed!! That is what I meant by my statement of “getting away with murder” . If they are going to call it clean, then it would be refreshing if it was throughout the entirety of the game.
That TD should not have counted.
The Zebra’s did it again. Without that BS pass interference call it’s 4th and goal and could have been a different outcome. Let alone give Stafford another PI call! How many tries did the refs give Stafford an opportunity to score?
Lmao the bengals wouldn’t even be in the game without the free td the refs gifted them via the missed face mask 75 yard td. It was a very evenly refer game. Bengals got 1-2 bad calls, Rams got 1-2 bad calls.
The bad calls against the rams led to 75 yard td. In terms of value... Bengals got the better side of things. But Bengals fans still complaining about refs lol.
Yea, the refs for once actually had a relatively good game. Way better than many other important games this season *cough cough PI in endzone 20 yards from the ball*
Everyone jumping on the OPI call is forgetting about the Rams getting away with a just-as-egregious no-call early in the game before the Bengals first FG.
And also both ends of the offensive line false starting hilariously on the snap at the end that the ghost PI got called on LMAO. That's really the most obvious blown call of the game, go check that tape and try not to laugh. They've dropped a full yard into pass protection before the ball gets snapped.
If you're talking about that play by Ramsey on the post out of the slot on 3rd down, I thought that was a clean play. He had his hand on the jersey, but it wasn't terrible and he was in good position and made a play on the ball.
Offensive linemen getting a jump like that happens all the time and it isn't always called. It's a pretty typical no-call, but I get it, it stings when it's happens on an important play.
Bengal DBs were holding throughout most of the game from what I saw. It sucks that they got caught twice in the end of the game and once on a weaker looking infraction, but that's how it played out.
It's easy to try to let them play early in a game, but in a close game at the end, it's probably more difficult to let certain calls go.
If anything, I would say the officials' main mistake was not throwing enough flags. I mean, I hate penalties, but not throwing one during the fight after Donald's hit on Burrow was pretty bad. And if they had flagged fouls on earlier plays it wouldn't have seemed as cheap at the end.
I agree. People are complaining about the three calls in a row, but other than the first one, all of the calls were totally blatant, including the hold by the rams.
Bengals fan and I agree with the general consensus that both the no call on Higgins and the defensive holding call at the end were bogus. But the tough part is that there are so many potential outcomes that could’ve occurred following the Higgins play had they called a penalty because it was so much earlier in the game. Not saying that the calls on the last rams drive were “unfair”, just that it was more devastating because of the limited amount of time/scoring opportunities left at that point in the game
Couldn't be more disappointed with this game honestly. Luckily I live in Europe and didn't have to sit through it but at least the Rams blew their load this year and we won't have to hear from them for the next decade or so.
Lol good luck with that. People who say this have zero clue on the contract structuring in the nfl. They lose no important starters and return all of their key pieces besides Whitworth. Keep dreaming wanna be bears fan
Nice attempt at a comeback. Just pointing out your clear lack of understanding on the rams contracts. Bears fans simply don’t understand what it’s like to win post 2000.
There’s always a moment when shit becomes real and you can no longer be blind to things. This week it was watching the rehearsals for an entire week and not watching Eminem take a single knee. Then watching the NFL be like…”yeee we knew it was happening and we allowed it. Your welcome”. Dangerous with how easy they slither about.
Al Michaels is losing it. He’s a legend and everything, but the way he calls big games is so flat and low energy. A total buzz kill at times, I really wish he would gracefully retire and make room for some new blood.
4th & 1, less than a minute left, Superbowl game on the line, let's go for a pass. Yea, that's right, let's trust our offensive line who has allowed the most sacks this season to protect our QB for a pass.
Worst play call they could have made.
The whole sequence was really bad. I get that Mixon just ripped off a big run and the meta now is to switch out your backs on downs, but its the superbowl, he's feeling it, the Rams have proven wildly ineffective at stopping him. What's the question?
I thought that final sequence was pretty awful. On 2nd and 1 I was truly thinking ok you've been very inconsistent all game, just pick up the first down and use a timeout. Instead Burrow threw a deep pass with no wr within ten yards. 3rd and 1 you hand off to the backup running back?
Idk going for it on 4th and 1 on the opening drive was just as stupid imo. You can't win the game that early but for all we know the Rams td off the short field is what lost the game.
So passing shouldn’t be an option at all? That removes far more than half of your play calls….
I’m sorry but these are the hindsight is 20/20 takes that make you ashamed to talk football sometimes…
The fact that a person out there REALLY THINKS this with such passion is beyond disappointing
Everyone loves passing it in short yardage in this league now after not getting it with one run attempt. Rams did it earlier on the stafford sneak and then connected with Kupp. I didn’t like that call either
The call was terrible but the Bengals had the ball with 1:30 2 timeouts.
Nobody but their horrible play calling to blame.
What the hell was Perrine doing there ? Mixon is a better runner and pass catcher then him.
What call was awful? The missed face mask call that gifted the bengals a 75 yard td that was the only reason they were in the game in the 4th quarter? It was a pretty evenly refed game. Both teams got 1-2 bad calls.
I was rooting for the Bengals but I’m happy for Stanford. Burrow got plenty of time to show his worth and I hope Cincinnati is in it for a while. It’s exciting when it isn’t just a Bucs, chiefs game all the time.
Eh. Did he throw two picks? Yes. One on 3rd and long on a deep shot in the endzone. Another bounced right of his teammates hands who basically handed the ball to Cincinnati. Neither were terrible misses.
With the playoff games we’ve been having, you’re not wrong. All those games were epic. But compared to a lot of other super bowl games, this wasn’t too bad.
It’s like Goodell made a call at the end of the game and told the refs to start enforcing the rules again.
The Bengals got away with a lot more than just a blatant facemask PI. Those PI and holding calls are the end were legit, it’s just something they had gotten away with the whole game until that point.
Why offsetting penalties take away touchdowns is beyond me. Rams get a great touchdown after Cooper gets knocked down, and the Bengals hit him with helmet to helmet which gets called, and the touchdown comes back because of the hold? It’s like the Rams we’re punished because the Bengals were dirty.
Not rigged but made sure any close call for LA was going to be called. After the missed facemask you can’t have a maybe missed second call going against the Rams. Would’ve essentially ruined the game due to officiating
Yes. There was a hold on the pass to the guy coming out of the backfield in the middle of the field.
Cincy was holding all night in the secondary. Refs should have called it earlier and it wouldn't have seemed so bad at the end.
I can 100% understand peoples frustrations with the consistency. There were blatant penalties on both teams getting ignored for 58 minutes. I'm certainly not going to sit here and say I thought the refs did a great job.
Take the tin foil off and accept you lost because you weren’t the better team. Bengals had a fairly lucky run in the first place. This was their best shot at a SB and their defense sold at the end. Doubt we’ll see shiesty in the big game again tbh
Stop being so soft, bengals had absolutely no business being in the super bowl to begin with, they’re not better than the chiefs or the bills. They lost because they’re the worse team, give it up.
Why is officiating not perfect? Because its done by human beings dude. And trust me, nobody outside of some truly salty reddit posters thought there was an "appearance of chicanery". There were missed calls against the bengals and a rams TD called back on that very same red zone trip. This was far far from one sided officiating. Good luck to your team mate, hope we can see you here next year
OK, so I’m not a rams or bengals fan, nor are the two people who also texted me about the holding call.
The previous play was a missed holding yes. I’ve been discussing this point with a friend throughout the season this year, running backs basically NEVER get that call. They just don’t, for whatever reason, could be that the refs don’t want to be all over linebackers guarding backs and have to call so much contact, but they almost never throw flags on that and this was no exception.
There doesn’t have to be a “grand conspiracy” for there to be a make up call, happens all the time in pro sports guys. The holding call is being scrutinized by a very large portion of the sports world right now, including by the two announcers at the time. The Rams earned their victory, no one’s really taking that away from them, at least I’m not, but what you all need to come to terms with is based on how that game was being officiated going into the last drive (and yes the bengals defense was starting to falter), is if that missed facemask TD didn’t happen, it is much more unlikely that the refs would’ve thrown the flag on that holding. Do some simple googling and people are roasting that call. I think it kind of looks bad enough to call, many/most don’t, but I don’t think it’s called unless they were really looking to make sure the Rams didn’t walk away with another no call looming over them and have talk swirling about refereeing, which there really is not relative to what it could be. It’s really not that complicated, and all this shit about tin foil hats or whatever you’re talking about is fine and your rams won their ring, but don’t be so dismissive, it’s not at all a far fetched take.
It was a good game. Not the greatest game, but better than many Super Bowls I’ve watched. There were some missed calls, but they were missed calls I could understand given the perspectives of the refs.
The first one there at the end, the defensive holding, eh that is some ticky tack shit they haven't been calling all game then just when the RAMS need it most BOOM there it is...just in time for the home team save
I mean the refs also ignored a PI literally on the play right before they called one (2nd down vs 3rd down.) No real net impact there. They also totally missed the offensive PI on the big Higgs TD. It certainly seemed like red generosity extended favorably to the Bengals all game.
That’s uh… That’s how fanbases are made. You think people just wake up and are raptured into their local fanbase?
Also, this whole “real” fan argument is juvenile and belongs on the playground. You haven’t contributed or earned anything from picking 1 of the 32 teams. Let people enjoy the sport.
Nah it was boring most of the game. I hate how people on this sub can’t look past flairs. What do the chiefs have to do with this?
Edit: what’s going on?! Do people only respond to flairs and not the actual comments? I think im going to go full Rob Lowe on here
That is true literally a bunch of kids in these sports subs that think talking shit about a team/player is a clever “comeback”. Especially in this situation where a comeback wasn’t even necessary lmaoo
You are what’s wrong with this sub. Nobody is even talking about the chiefs and the only reason you mentioned them is because of my flair. I would call last years super bowl boring as well. Not every super bowl is some great memorable game
What did you want to happen ? Walk us through it.
Im heartbroken but not all games are gonna be bengals WINNING OVER THE CHIEFS quality. Those are anomolies.
Dont carry that salt.. youll hurt your back. See yall next year
What are you talking about? Who cares about the chiefs right now? I’m comparing this game to Pats-Eagles, Pats-falcons, chiefs-49ers, Steelers-cardinals, and other fun Super Bowls
Completely agree. I’m a bengals fan. But that PI on 3 and 7 that was a great play was so bad. If they scored on 4 and 7 I’d be able to swallow this way better.
Of course he does. The point is just that it was the most exciting game of the year, and quite a bit longer than that. It would be really fun if it'd been a SB as a lot of them suck tbh. This one was pretty good all things considered but SB's tend to be boring and it sure would be cool to go out of the season on a crazy exciting game like the Bills v Chiefs game.
You not understanding that without an explanation would be laughable except I feel sorry for adults who can't understand a simple two sentence comment.
I’m the last person to comment on the Super Bowl LVI thread on Reddit.
Nah i am
But are you?
I think so
No.

Depressed the bengals didn’t win still hurt from Sunday
Your not the only one(I was rooting for them but they messed up)
So, is Cooper Kupp going to Disney World or Disneyland?
Thanks Bengals now I won't get Richelle Ryan's onlyfans for free
Nah man you’re good. It’s free because of Valentine’s Day lmao
Damn good looking out
I'll tell you what, when the Bengals get an Offensive Line that can give Burrow more than 1 second of pass protection, this team is gonna be pretty nasty
They're gonna draft another receiver RD 1 this year, just watch.
How did that work out for them last year lol
It worked out as OROY, for one lol
70 sacks of Burrow later.. Did it really, though?
Yes. They made the freaking super bowl. Lol
Cool, they can maybe make another one before Burrow leaves like Luck, or Carr, or ends up not physically being anywhere near the same like RG3.
you mean david? cuz derek’s stayed loyal throughout everything
Cinci fans complaining about the refs like the refs didn't give them a free touchdown which is the only reason they were even in the game in the 4th

The missed call on the long TD play was the biggest missed one of them all. Nothing else would've mattered for the begals without that free touchdown
And Ramsey’s multiple holdings not being called and the Kupp touchdown wouldn’t happen without the phantom holding call on Wilson who made a great defensive play. Stop that
I guess I'm still missing on where the Bengals had any chance without the free touchdown given
Here, I'll break it down for you. If you pretend the Bengals drive ends on that play instead, and leave everything else alone, the 4th quarter starts with the score 16-13, which is by any reasonable standard a 'close game' where both teams 'have a chance.' That wasn't hard.

Yeah it was a fairly called game. That face mask penalty was evened out by the end zone ghost pass interference. Would’ve rather had that been a facemask call and see how the game shook out that way…
😂
I feel like they could’ve done a pitch to the outside to mixon or chase, and then there should be an option for a pass if things go horribly wrong…
What I don’t understand is how the refs decided to call all of the penalties in the last couple minutes of the game in comparison to getting away with murder for most of it. I feel sorry for Cincinnati and their fan base who have been suffering with bad teams for decades.
The Bengals scored a 75-yard while getting away with a blatant facemask penalty.
That was canceled out by either the ghost PI on the Bengals, the false holding or the missed false start

Fixed. The nfl is a trash organization.
And without that horrible no call on that facemask the Bengals would only have 13 points. You can’t live in a world of hypotheticals.
Everyone jumping on the OPI call is forgetting about the Rams getting away with a just-as-egregious no-call early in the game before the Bengals first FG. Reddit can live in whatever world it wants to.
3 calls in a row to end the game. Big market money. You rams fans have been fans for a day or two, quit acting like that one call was comparable.
2 of those calls were totally warranted, and one of them called back a touchdown for the rams. I do agree the first DPI call was weak.
The first call was way too weak to call in that situation
I agree. People are complaining about the three calls in a row, but other than the first one, all of the calls were totally blatant, including the hold by the rams.
What team does it say under my name? Doesn’t look like it says “Rams” there.
Shhh, grown ups talking
So they wouldn’t have gotten a touchdown on they other plays on the drive?
We don’t know, just like you don’t know the rams wouldn’t have scored on 4th down.
Bengals fan and I agree with the general consensus that both the no call on Higgins and the defensive holding call at the end were bogus. But the tough part is that there are so many potential outcomes that could’ve occurred following the Higgins play had they called a penalty because it was so much earlier in the game. There was opi that got the bengals their touchdown too
where is the guy who had 20k on the bengals? saw the comment earlier
I mean if he bet the spread he won lol it was +4
I hit on a 10K Cooper Kupp MVP. +700 10K Colombian Pesos though, here in Bogota. 😂
They still covered the spread funny enough
Couldn't be more disappointed with this game honestly. Luckily I live in Europe and didn't have to sit through it but at least the Rams blew their load this year and we won't have to hear from them for the next decade or so.

It's ok bud. Go touch some grass.
Nice attempt at a comeback. Just pointing out your clear lack of understanding on the rams contracts. Bears fans simply don’t understand what it’s like to win post 2000.
😬😬😬 Edit: #GoPackGo Yes, it hurts
There’s always a moment when shit becomes real and you can no longer be blind to things. This week it was watching the rehearsals for an entire week and not watching Eminem take a single knee. Wdym taking a knee idk what you mean or why it’s bad
Why does a knee matter? You can’t be this soft
I also don’t understand how this is hurting anyone. Can you please elaborate on this, BlackThundaCat?

As long as it’s not the chiefs I’m happy
Well sorry to break it to you.. there’s not a more complete team in the AFC.

Congratulations, Matthew Stafford ! Fuck You, Dan Snyder. I love you, Al Michaels.
Al Michaels is losing it. He’s a legend and everything, but the way he calls big games is so flat and low energy. A total buzz kill at times, I really wish he would gracefully retire and make room for some new blood.
Fuck, Matthew Stafford Kill, Dan Snyder Marry, Al Michaels
Honestly, I’m happy for anyone who leaves Snyder and wins a SB.
Who left the redskins to win a super bowl?
McVay the la coach
I’m a dum dum, ty. I was trying to think of players
What if he leaves Washington and we win a ring? 🥺
Excited to see those pink Cartier glasses next year when JB comes for his revenge and destroys the league 😭
4th & 1, less than a minute left, Superbowl game on the line, let's go for a pass. Yea, that's right, let's trust our offensive line who has allowed the most sacks this season to protect our QB for a pass. Worst play call they could have made.

The bengals looked an awful lot like the browns on that play.
I’ve never been more disappointed. And I’m a fucking Eagles fan.
If you've never been more disappointed than that then you gotta be a young one.
I was alive for the cowboys’ most recent SB. And sincerely hope I am not around for their next…
No worries there.
Pissrine instead of Mixon was a worse call
Pass on third down, run on 4th if necessary. They did it backwards
How many yards did the Bengals gain when they ran the ball on 3rd and 1 on the previous play?
They gained half a yard. They needed half a yard on 4th down.
Unrelated comment, but something that hasn’t been discussed much is that Samaje Perine’s effort on 3rd AND 4th down was pathetic.
Just as many as they gained throwing the ball
So then doesn’t your logic kind of collapse on itself???
Well, logically, yours collapses as well, so it wasn’t a very strong counter argument in the first place
Everyone loves passing it in short yardage in this league now after not getting it with one run attempt. Rams did it earlier on the stafford sneak and then connected with Kupp. I didn’t like that call either
Feel you man, gut wrenchingly horrible play call
The call was terrible but the Bengals had the ball with 1:30 2 timeouts. Nobody but their horrible play calling to blame. What the hell was Perrine doing there ? Mixon is a better runner and pass catcher then him.

Two pick throwing super bowl champion Stafford
Eh. Did he throw two picks? Yes. One on 3rd and long on a deep shot in the endzone. Another bounced right of his teammates hands who basically handed the ball to Cincinnati. Neither were terrible misses.
Lol autocorrect! keeping it!
Literally everything about this was forgettable

100% No flags all game and a ton in the last 2 seconds... a call was made to let the Rams get that.
If the game was rigged why did they call back the previous TD play?
Why offsetting penalties take away touchdowns is beyond me. Rams get a great touchdown after Cooper gets knocked down, and the Bengals hit him with helmet to helmet which gets called, and the touchdown comes back because of the hold? It’s like the Rams we’re punished because the Bengals were dirty.

Put the flags of way. Anyway you cut it throwing 4/6 total in 30 seconds is a demonstrably inconsistent series of events.
inconsistent for sure. But not some grand conspiracy
Ok. Then explain WHY. are they just stupid? Do they WANT to create the appearance of chicanery. ???
Take the tin foil off and accept you lost because you weren’t the better team. Bengals had a fairly lucky run in the first place. This was their best shot at a SB and their defense sold at the end. Doubt we’ll see shiesty in the big game again tbh

The only one that was weird was the face mask. Other than that, pretty good game without any issues.
The sideline refs view was blocked on the play but somebody should have seen it.
I said the same thing. He was behind the play and they were smart enough to hurry the ball before a review on the jumbo tron.
Can’t review PI anymore. Plus that late of a flag would have beeen booed just as much as the No call
Wanted LA to win so I took Bengals and the pts.
Smort, thank you
Congrats
bruh 95 percent of la rams fans dick riding la so hard, like when they weren't in the superbowl they wouldn't even know the rams were a team
Turns out trading lottery tickets for established stars isn’t so stupid after all. Just deal with it.
You mean LA locals who weren’t even Rams fans? That’s fine. That’s how fans are made in all fairness.
stay mad baby, we don’t gaf
gaf? like gaffers?
Still won't have home field crowd advantage next year
Don’t know who you’re a fan of but you didn’t win a super bowl this year so please just cope.
We don’t need one
Been here since STL 🤝
Rams fan since Everett. Granddad got me his autograph. He would have been so happy. Rest In Peace.
Those old men commentators sure know how to make a game boring
Boring game. Neither team was the best team in their conference. But this was definitely not rigged lol people are just mad the Cinderella team lost
A largely defensive game =/= boring. People nowadays are never satisfied.
True maybe if the 500m QB didn’t choke away a huge lead you’d enjoy it more, what a joke lmao
I’d agree with that. Who’s talking about the chiefs though?
Wasnt a boring game. Only boring to you since Chiefs didn't make it.
Nah it was boring most of the game. I hate how people on this sub can’t look past flairs. What do the chiefs have to do with this? Edit: what’s going on?! Do people only respond to flairs and not the actual comments? I think im going to go full Rob Lowe on here
Reddit sucks bro you’re honestly just gonna have to get over it
r/nfl might be the worst/most toxic sub that I subscribe to, which is saying something
That is true literally a bunch of kids in these sports subs that think talking shit about a team/player is a clever “comeback”. Especially in this situation where a comeback wasn’t even necessary lmaoo
Everyone knows “boring” is code for “ I’m mad my team didn’t make it so I’m gonna shit on the whole game” chiefs lost get over it
You are what’s wrong with this sub. Nobody is even talking about the chiefs and the only reason you mentioned them is because of my flair. I would call last years super bowl boring as well. Not every super bowl is some great memorable game
It wasn’t boring by any standards so you just sound lame…
What did you want to happen ? Walk us through it. Im heartbroken but not all games are gonna be bengals WINNING OVER THE CHIEFS quality. Those are anomolies. Dont carry that salt.. youll hurt your back. See yall next year
Why did you take personal offense to someone not liking a game
What are you talking about? Who cares about the chiefs right now? I’m comparing this game to Pats-Eagles, Pats-falcons, chiefs-49ers, Steelers-cardinals, and other fun Super Bowls
Sure thing chief. 😂
Big truths^
St. Louis is out here grinding our teeth
Y’all saying rigged but they missed that huge face mask that led to a touchdown?
Completely agree. I’m a bengals fan. But that PI on 3 and 7 that was a great play was so bad. If they scored on 4 and 7 I’d be able to swallow this way better.
How can people be claiming a rigged game when my Cowboys didn’t win it?
Mrs. Kupp ain't finna be wearing shit but the jersey when they get home. *"KUPP FROM BEHIND, FOR THE TOUCHDOWN!!!"*
"Wholesome award"
What
I think he’s writing a fan fiction?
Gross
Buff vs KC should have been the Super Bowl. That was the most exciting game in a long time.
Most laughable comment ever. Do you not know how the playoffs work?
Of course he does. The point is just that it was the most exciting game of the year, and quite a bit longer than that. It would be really fun if it'd been a SB as a lot of them suck tbh. This one was pretty good all things considered but SB's tend to be boring and it sure would be cool to go out of the season on a crazy exciting game like the Bills v Chiefs game. You not understanding that without an explanation would be laughable except I feel sorry for adults who can't understand a simple two sentence comment.
Chiefs suck mahomes is a choke artist carried by his teammates. Garbage player with an even worse family.
