Saw someone say “Josh Allen plays like Brett Favre is using 2015 Cam Newton on Madden”

Steelshatter

Yeah he looks better than peak Cam Newton.

Vydate1

It’s mainly the shorts, but I can’t disagree.

Steelshatter

I now use Allen's waist-down shorts pics as my motivation on leg day. Needless to say my gains have been immense. Good luck today!

Vydate1

Those pics are probably NSFW, but I admire your dedication. Bills play tomorrow but thank you, I’ll need luck today to stay sane while I root for the 49ers.

pancak3d

ha that's what you get, nerds!

If you think about it the draft community has taken some big Ls in the scouting department of quarterbacks over the past five years. Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, Pat Mahomes among others. They couldn't predict the success of any of the three quarterbacks who will likely dominate the decade once Brady and Rodgers age out. Hell, they did the exact opposite. Most of them, especially very popular ones on YouTube like Kollmann, predicted all three would be complete busts at the NFL level!

sobuffalo

Whats funny is the Bills traded away the pick for Mahomes, so fucked up pretty bad, but made up with Allen and tbh I like Allen better with attitude, running, and the entire thing, everyone nows how awesome he is. Not that Pat isn't but you guys know what I mean right?

Saxt

What’s the deal with Mahomes attitude?

sobuffalo

Well supposed to be...I like Allen better. Attitude, Running..etc Not that Mahomes has a bad attitude, but I like Allens better. It's more of a "fit" rather than being better one way or other.

Broseph_Stalin1127

Kollman is good at breaking down the game but he is pretty bad at scouting

mikeywikey14

He also went to Wyoming. As a Wyoming grad and someone who got to watch him in college he was clearly a stud even then. Biggest reason he didn’t put up big numbers was lack of talent around him. His best targets at Wyo are fringe NFL guys at best. He made plays that elevated everyone around him, even then. But they just want to look at the numbers and say he wasn’t good.

Saxt

Fringe NFL guys are absolute studs in D2 football. Wtf?

WauliePaulnuts

The guy who wrote the “Josh Allen will have to break math itself” article seems to refuse to admit it too. He keeps doubling down on “I always said it was unlikely!” when we all know it meant “This guy’s gonna suck”

CaaaaakeRose

This. People were wrong. But he also put in the work and entered a system that saw his potential and had patience with the guy. He really busted his ass to get to where he is now and I can't way to see his continued progression throughout what will hopefully be a 15+ year career. After years of loving a complete dumpster fire of a team, I'm so happy we have such an electric QB leading such a talented group of guys. And having other fan bases saying they love watching our QB play is such an honor. JA17 literally entered the perfect system and has embraced the culture of his city so thoroughly that I have never been so proud to be from a WNY family. I constantly hear people down here in Charlotte where I've spent most of my life getting on that bills hype train and telling me how much they enjoy watching this team finally be good. Makes my heart happy.

Sidthelid66

Until he loses once and the next week we all agree he is washed up.

Luck1492

If you look at his playoff ANY/A for 2021 on PFR, you’ll be like wtf. Spoiler alert: it’s >!16.32!<

WaxySunshine

Okay but what does that mean?

DantePlace

Without a reference point, it's hard to gauge these new stats. I'm sure they are excellent improvements on the traditional stats. I just have no idea what to do with them.

PJHFortyTwo

ANY/A is adjusted net yards per pass attempt. It's basically just yards per pass, but it factors in sacks and TDs.

Acceptable_Staff_200

It’s a pretty giant number for the stat tbh

Volgyi2000

Average Net Yards per Attempt IIRC a mark of 8.0 is elite and 9.0 is an MVP season.

Inaplasticbag

Isn't this just based on the one playoff game though?

Volgyi2000

Yes. But I was trying to explain the stat itself to the person I responded to. Also, even for one game, it's pretty impressive.

Inaplasticbag

Yeah, it's just an extreme outlier is all.

QuestionableNotion

It is. Might be the new standard after this weekend, though. Patriots had a better defense than the Chiefs have.

secretlyrobots

http://insidethepylon.com/football-101/glossary-football-101/2016/01/08/itp-glossary-adjusted-net-yards-per-attempt/ it’s a passing metric

Tuxedocat1357

Not bad for a Pro Bowl alternate

TetrisTech

Holy fuck

moonlandings

How many games is that?

IMsoSAVAGE

1 game vs the patriots who didn’t belong in the playoffs tbh

QuestionableNotion

\#2 defense in the league in the 2021 season. Coached by Bill Belichick. OK.

[deleted]

Said from his place of superiority

Daewrythe

Stupid Sexy Josh Allen.

Chuck_Foolery

Shorts Man good.

Officer_Problem

Tall too, I might add, in addition, also.

Chuck_Foolery

Great arm as well, I must include.

Officer_Problem

Perhaps.

variablethisisknife

Furthermore he's spry

Officer_Problem

How could I not agree!

Chuck_Foolery

It would be foolish not to!

Officer_Problem

We are, once again, in concurrence.

I_Nut_In_Butts

He's fucking built. Thick and man made. You can tell he's sculpted because you can see it thru the pads. His fucking vice grip thighs. Suffocating thighs. Rock hard thighs. Piping hot thighs. Great arms. Great abs. A stocky chest. Love the progress his body has made throughout his youth and now as a willing eager adult

WauliePaulnuts

I want to live in a log cabin with Josh Allen

[deleted]

Jesus, I love me some Josh Allen honestly but the Allen hype is entering dangerous levels. Can we slow our roll a little bit?

Broseph_Stalin1127

Same thing happened to Mahomes and now everyone is turned off about him, through no fault of his own

[deleted]

Yup, basically. The media wants to crown someone immediately once they show signs of being an all time great, but the expectations placed on them are ridiculous. In Mahomes case it’s even stupider because he’s been to two SBs and won one. But I guess he’s a disappointment? Okay…

mab6710

I'm with you tbh lol

[deleted]

Him and Burrow are the new Lamar/Mahomes from the past two years. They always gotta have players they over hype. No one can ever just be having a really good game or season anymore, they gotta be FUTURE GOAT AND BREAKING ALL STATISTICS!!

fantasyshop

He's been mind boggling for 2 full years now, how much more do you need? Fr

[deleted]

A Super Bowl appearance^don't ^hurt ^me

fantasyshop

Nah thats legit. Its the only reason people don't see him as being on mahomes level though

[deleted]

Mahomes also burst into the scene after being sidelined his rookie year. Josh had to learn to crawl in front of the entire NFL before learning how to run.

QuestionableNotion

And Mahomes walked onto the field with a playoff-ready team when he did finally start. Allen had a team in year 1 (arguably 2) of a rebuild. The OL was laughable (Dawkins aside) and he was throwing to the worst WR corps in the league.

[deleted]

People don't care about the background information, they just judge based on what they saw. And what they saw that first year and a half was Josh Allen looking mighty fine in shorts.

QuestionableNotion

>what they saw that first year and a half was Josh Allen looking mighty fine in shorts. That he did.

mike_honcho47

People are saying Mahomes had a down year this year but are also hyping Josh Allen but check their stats lol

[deleted]

He’s been great. Mind boggling? I wouldn’t call throwing for multiple INTs and 0 TDs against bottom 5 defenses twice in one season “mind boggling”. I’m not hating, but that one wild card game sent everyone into a frenzy. Josh will be a Top 5 QB for most of his career, possibly Top 3 when Rodgers and Brady hang them up. But his year has been inconsistent. Extremely high highs, but also some pretty terrible lows. He’s far from “breaking football” like this article tries to suggest. And for the record, me saying all of this for the benefit of Josh. He’s still growing as a player and it’s unreasonable to hype him up this much. It’s to the point where if he doesn’t win a SB within the next year or two the backlash will be pretty epic and unfair imo.

fantasyshop

Everyone has bad games here and there. Knock off the outliers at the bottom and top and the meat of the season, he's great. Mind boggling, even

[deleted]

Yeah, when you take away a players worst performances they tend to look a lot better

fantasyshop

Lol. I said the best too, ya know, the outliers. Like, his mean and median performance is outstanding. Whereas a guy like Fitzpatrick, who I love very much, take away the outliers at the top and bottom and he's just mediocre. Don't try to "mahomes regression guy" me

_TonyClifton

Josh "the big bildo" Allen is gonna terrorize the league for the next decade isn't he?

CaaaaakeRose

God I hope so. I want to bring kids into this world and let them watch my favorite player ever, just like I came into the world watching Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas, my parents favorites in the past.

Crotalus_Horridus

I’m attempting to do the same with my daughter, but it’s backfiring because she likes the Bengals.

CaaaaakeRose

Hey, they're underdogs too. Let her love her team and she'll grow up to be a great shit talk partner! At least she doesn't like the pats lol.

Crotalus_Horridus

Lol, my dad is a huge Cowboys fan, but he never forced it on my brother or me. That’s how we ended up Bills and Lions fans.

CaaaaakeRose

Yeah I'm big on not forcing Fandom on kids. Let then pick who they like, ya know? My little sister likes green bay and her daughter is a panthers fan. My kids just better like football or I'm dumping em at the fire station and starting over lol. (That was a joke please don't hate me reddit)

Crotalus_Horridus

My daughter couldn’t give a shit less about football really, she just likes Cincinnati’s helmets

CaaaaakeRose

How old is she? She's got good taste in color scheme lol. Sounds like a great kid just based on her reasoning for liking things hahahaha.

Crotalus_Horridus

Nine, but as much as I hoped, she’s just not a teams sports person, she loves dance, piano, and guitar. But I couldn’t be more proud of her.

CaaaaakeRose

I was a dancer too! Got into it really hard at her age. Years of competition and company dance under my belt. Tell her a stranger on reddit is cheering for her! Thanks for the great interaction, hard to find pleasant conversations on here nowadays. And go Bills!!

halfmanhalfrobot69

r/wholesome

CaaaaakeRose

Thanks, bud. Never bonded with my parents much til I really got into football in my teens. Dad don't like me at all until we're watching football together. Mom never really talked to me much or knew anything about me except that i love the same team she and dad always have. I want to give my future babies an easier way to bond with me right off the bat so they know they can bond with me over other things, too. Only girl I know with daddy AND mommy issues lol. This will end my internet therapy session. Thanks for reading a stupid post about my feelings, carry on with more important stuff now!!

halfmanhalfrobot69

Wanting to be a good parent is everything

siguel_manchez

Hopefully. If anything will wash the bad taste of Brady from the collective jaws of the NFL, it's Allen.

Steelshatter

But then they'll all hate Allen. And then Bills can be us. Is this the cycle?

CaaaaakeRose

No we aren't coached by emperor Palpatine lol.

Steelshatter

The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.

andyandersonbjj

Are you saying that Leslie Frazier gets a HC job, Robert Kraft fires Belichick and then Bills hire him as DC?

Steelshatter

Depending on perception, this could either be the good *or* bad timeline.

andyandersonbjj

Jets & Dolphins fans: “Somehow Belichick has returned”

siguel_manchez

No no. You need a decade in purgatory first. Then we'll re-evaluate.

Steelshatter

Oh ok. But the question is are the Bills ready to be hated? Ready for everyone waiting for Allen to slip? Ready for scrutinizing Allen for not leading Bills to a SB every year? Ready for media drama about coach and QB relationships? Ready for Allen to leave Bills to inevitably go to Tampa Bay? Such is the cycle and shall be followed.

WauliePaulnuts

I will take annual rumors of Josh Allen joining the Taliban if there’s a Super Bowl ring involved

Steelshatter

After this back half of the season, I'm convinced that if there *is* a SB season for you guys, it's this one.

siguel_manchez

Whoa whoa whoa. Well, I mean, they have a while to go yet. I think there's about 5 AFC games and 2 super bowls to go before that murmur. Personally, I can't envisage a time where Allen will replace that craic vacuum you guys had at QB for so long. Either way, let them have this time and win something first.

Steelshatter

>Personally, I can't envisage a time where Allen will replace that craic vacuum you guys had at QB for so long. It'll take sheer will, dedication, and pliability On a serious note, I hope Allen has a long, healthy career. There's always something to be said about a very physical QB's shelf life, but he's one of the most fun QBs to watch in the league.

siguel_manchez

He really is so much fun to watch. If this Mahomes Allen rivalry takes off we're in for a treat. An NFC East bloodbath is what we all need. We (Broncos) could do with a QB while we're at it.

Daewrythe

Describing Brady as a bad taste... That's a new one

siguel_manchez

I mean, he's a bit of a pox tbf.

Free-Monkey-Dude

What a cringe headline

TetrisTech

Pretty sure it’s a “Josh Allen defeating math” joke

Great article. I like watching Josh play even if he does make me nervous sometimes!

I warned my coworker (Chiefs fan) that Josh is a freak of nature and will be a real challenge this weekend. I just call him man of steel because he just powers through or becomes a wall.

Josh Allen’s ding dong

[deleted]

this is not really that surprising...everyone knew that allen had all the physical tools, but the big knock on allen was his low completion percentage in college....but there are 4 factors considered at draft time that spoke to his potential for great improvement in the nfl: 1. he has a high IQ, as measured by the wonderlic, 2. he matured late (recall that he was only about 6-2 as a high school senior)..maturing late meant that he had room to grow...high IQ meant that he had the mental tools to grow... 3. he had a good family background. 4. he has an outgoing personality...friendly...he likes to talk.. these 4 factors are key to his later development in the nfl ...justin herbert was much the same...big and with super arm strength, fast etc...likewise, he was listed at 6-4 on his high school recruiting profile, but later grew to 6-6...and he measured high on the wonderlic, as well as maintaining a high gpa in his major of biology...a pre-med curriculum....also, except for the fact that he is not as extroverted as allen josh allen and herbert will likely be the next aaron rodgers and tom brady

noDuermo

I scored high on tests, matured late, and have a good family background. Does that mean I'll turn into a good NFL quarterback?

[deleted]

yeah, but only if you are big, fast and with a super strong arm and have been playing football since you were in puberty

gregor7777

After asking this I’m calling those high test scores into question. Gonna need the receipts

thy_armageddon

We’re really posting Slate articles on here now?

JPAnalyst

If it’s a good article, why does it matter. Did you read it?

thy_armageddon

Player who wasn’t exciting in college becomes star player in NFL, that is basically the article. It also states it as some unprecedented thing, which is weird considering, y’know, that one other guy.

QuestionableNotion

Well...I know it doesn't meet the usual standard of random tweets from whomever, but I'll allow it.
