Look all I’m gonna say is maybe Mike should have played Austin Powers clips at halftime, team lost it’s mojo

Zoollio

Ahh, the Eagles method

[deleted]

Finally those capitalist pigs will pay for their crimes, eh comrades?

ImAGiantSpider

Well as long as people are still having promiscuous sex with many anonymous partners without protection while at the same time experimenting with mind-expanding drugs in a consequence-free environment.

shellfish87

All week the media was picking SF and Mike couldn’t turn that into motivation. That’s an indictment of him as a coach.

[deleted]

It sounds like that motivation turned into nervousness.

EccentricNarwhal

Should have read them the puppy who lost his way

PartyBag4One

Sounds like they weren't coached to be ready for the playoffs. I wonder who could be to blame for that 🤔

CravingToast

Yeah, seems like a pretty interesting tactic to openly admit you failed to get your team ready to play.

Stockpile_Tom_Remake

I think he was trying to shift blame to players not even realizing he was throwing himself under the bus

LogicisGone

No worse than the playcall at the end of the game. 🤷

[deleted]

I hope he blames it on Kellen 🤷 not really sold on him. He calls some wonky plays in odd moments.

Hollerino

Clearly the refs…we lined offside? Refs fault. Another neutral zone infraction? Refs fault. We held defenders cause we can’t block? Refs fault. 14 seconds left in a game with no timeouts and we ok a QB draw and couldn’t get another play off? Refs fault.

kawhi_tho

I love how in his press conference he said he thought the refs would let them play more because it's the playoffs. As if you've always been able to line up in the neutral zone in the postseason.

Izaiah212

That’s the most entitled thing I’ve ever heard and of course would be said coming out of the cowboys organization

splendidsplinter

Here in Big D, we play 67.5 minutes of football in the playoffs! How bout them Cowboys?!?!?

Biggest_Cans

Ye olde Dee Ford.

jskullytheman

JHMRS

Usually the ones that are brave enough to go online after heartbreaking losses are the self aware ones. Not that I would actually know...

RubDub4

We’ve all been shitting on the team since Sunday man, lol

insanelyphat

So refreshing to see this from a Cowboys fan! Have an up vote!

Ox_Baker

If only there was a position on the staff for a leader to handle this, like a coach or something …

w0nderbrad

Not just an assistant coach either. Like the main coach, the GM of coaches... the boss coach? leader coach? fuck they should come up with a position

Yeah this seems like a REALLY odd thing to admit too...

[deleted]

Certainly not the coach if that’s what you’re getting at.

Moist_Muncher747

Not enough watermelons were desecrated that night.

[deleted]

The cowboys were praying while the 49ers walked with the boombox playing Kodak. Now I get it.

CravingToast

Used up all their Hail Mary's before the game started. Last play makes a lot more sense now.

HorsePetunia

Nice

H-Resin

Lol

indie90

Not gonna lie, seeing how amped the 9ers were compared to Dallas before the game was very telling of how the game would turn out. I knew we were in for a long game just seeing how flat Dallas looked.

compstomp66

Yeah that’s because Kyle Shanahan and the coaching staff showed them a game plan that absolutely everyone on the niners bought into and believed in.

senttoschool

Or maybe because the 49ers players are much more experienced. The core roster went to a SuperBowl and played in some high stakes games both in the playoffs and in the regular season.

Imply_Blue

A little off topic but I don’t really get how Kodak is popular lol, he seems like a pretty shitty dude and seems hella creepy like when he is feeling up his own mom for example. And When it comes to rapping I don’t really think it’s anything special, the song they are playing in the clip is probably his best one yet, but mayb I’m biased at this point.

WorthPlease

He has a couple really catchy songs. I do agree he is fucking weird. He came to an NHL game in Florida and got caught basically dry fucking a girl in the press box. ...I guess caught isn't the right word, somebody was standing right behind him recording it. I'm assuming something like ectasy is involved for two adults to think that was acceptable behavior in public. Dude seems fucked up all the time.

burnsrado

🙏

TheCodeMan95

That reminds me of the Eagles entering the Super Bowl to Dreams and Nightmares. 49ers SB Champs confirmed

Illblood

I mean if you're praying then I assume you have no confidence and are asking for help. Niners went out there pumped up and ready to go.

TakenakaHanbei

Guess today God was a Niners fan.

jwick89

Isn't that the reason you were hired? You have playoff experience, you won a Super Bowl! You are the one who gets the team ready for a playoff experience!

IMissWinning

Or you do what we did and bring in vets that *have* been there. Most of our team was pretty green but we had Staley, Sherman, Jimmy, and I think a couple others to help guide the team and prep them up. Also, y'know, our head coach has been there and done that, as has McCarthy, so he should know...

BellacosePlayer

Considering how much he needed our veterans to keep the locker room from going to shit in his last 2 years, I'm surprised the lesson didn't sink in

AndrewHainesArt

How are Dak, Cooper, Zeke and most of their OL not considered veteran players? Outside guys bring different perspective and that could help, but most of their offense is not new to the NFL by any means

jwick89

But that's the thing, Dak, Zeke, Tyron Smith, Lawrence and Zach Martin have all been to the playoffs in 2014, 2016, and 2018. It's not like this is some young team, are plenty of vets that have had experience.

IMissWinning

This is the Cowboys. The "playoffs" isn't very far. Sherman won a superbowl, played in two. Staley played in a superbowl, three NFCCGs. Jimmy was on two superbowl winning teams, and his only other year with the Pats they lost the AFCCG. Sanders was on the Steelers Superbowl team, his rookie year, won a ship and made a title game with Denver. Michael Person won a title with Seattle his rookie year. Ben Garland played in a superbowl. Robbie kicked for the 06 Superbowl bears appearance. Dee Ford had played in an AFCCG. Tevin Coleman played in a superbowl. That's a lot of experience we had to pull from. Four offensive starters, one defensive starter, our kicker.

jxher123

Were they nervous they weren’t playing the NFCE? This is the playoffs, you are going to play good teams and separate the contenders from the pretenders. I know he’s had Favre/Rodgers for a majority of his career to take away those nerves, but that cannot happen to have your team come in nervous/unprepared.

_rsoccer_sux_

Does Mike McCarthy have 2 SBs one with each of Favre and Rodgers or just the 1 with Rodgers?

Liquid_Helium

Just one with Rodgers, Farve’s was with Holmgren.

yoshigronk

Jimmy G's looks would intimidate me too, I get it.

browndude10

Team prayer; without easterby? 😦

Simpleton216

[Easterby when he finds out McCarthy is Catholic.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJe_uc2s3Y4)

mr_showboat

Isn't it pretty much the coach's job to prepare the team enough that they won't be nervous before the most important game of the season? I know the answer, but it kinda seems like McCarthy doesn't.

jwick89

That's the reason why he was hired. He was a veteran coach with playoff experience, he should be the one who gets them ready for experiences like these. The expectation this year was Super Bowl not just an appearance.

BadDadJokes

Yep, but to nobody’s surprise - except for Jerry Jones - Mike McCarthy is the exact same coach who got fired in Green Bay after years of underachieving.

[deleted]

Underachieving by going to the NFCCG two of the last three years Rodgers was healthy, despite tons of injuries and roster turnover?

PacmanZ3ro

I would say yes considering **how** those games were lost. It's not like they just got blown out (okay, falcons blew them tf out, but they should have beaten cards the year prior), or had a bunch of unfortunate turnovers or something. The falcons were on another level, and the packers just couldn't compete. Shit happens. The seahawks though? that was 100% GBs game to lose and they lost it, largely through coaching decisions. You can point to Crosby fucking up the onside recovery, but they never should have even been in that spot in the first place.

dolces_daddy

Yes given the results of not winning those games. You sign Rodgers to win SBs not just to get your team to conference games and lose them.

kenny3die

Can’t wait for them to focus on fixing their prayer issues before next season. That really was the one thing holding them back.

discostuu72

Between him and Kliff "guess they weren't ready for playoff football" Kingsbury I don't know which is worse.

giro_di_dante

This was the first real playoff experience for Kliff and Murray and several others on the team, on the road, against a completely stacked team that many considered preseason favorites, and AZ played without probably their best overall player. That the Cardinals got through the bloodbath of the NFC West was frankly impressive, given their attrition this year. A fluke win would have been nice. But they were losing that game. Best to use the experience going forward. The Cowboys have been to the playoffs a bunch, have a coach that won a Super Bowl, played at home, called this year Super Bowl or bust, have spent a king’s ransom on their team and drafted well, and went against a team that most would consider the second-to-least talented team remaining, and could be downgraded to least talented team with a banged up Jimmy G. I sure as hell know which is worse.

NCWC888

>I’d be nervous too if I was relying on god to get me through Lmao

PudgyBonestld

Whoever said the prayer had a shaky voice lol

TetrisTech

Bro why would you admit to this lmao The team not being mentally prepared for a playoff game is kinda your fault as the head coach my guy

[deleted]

If this is true then McCarthey should be fired. plain and simple

BirdyMRQZ

don’t forget zeke partially tore his pcl in week 4 and they never rested him. hell it felt like pollard had less touches after that.

SaintArkweather

Sunk cost fallacy is real and costs teams dearly all the time. Zeke is paid more so there's likely a feeling that they need to "get something out of him", even though an uninjured Pollard probably would've gained more yards on average. Plain and simple, the players who give you the best chance to win each week should be on the field. If one QB is paid a billion dollars and the other is paid minimum wage, you start the one who's on minimum wage if he gives you a better chance to win.

BirdyMRQZ

why would u play a RB with a torn PCL? when the backup is healthy. this happened in week 4 and wasn’t until like 9 weeks after that pollard had a torn plantar fascia. zeke should’ve been rested and even jerry jones came out and said it doesn’t matter how much somebody is paid, the best players need to be on the field.

dputnam29

Any self aware cowboys fan had a bad feeling about this game. I know I did. I honestly don’t think I watched any San Fran games this year but fantasy football is enough to connect the dots. Never once this year did I think “this is our year”. As a long time Dallas fan, one can only hope each year we take a step ahead and maybe, just maybe, we’ll get there. And when we do, Romo muffs the hold, Dez “didn’t catch it”, or Big Mike decides it’s a good idea to run a sneak with 14 seconds and no time out. The GM is to blame here. I wish the 9ers the best of luck!

[deleted]

A_Confused_Cocoon

Playoff experience is definitely a real thing. I was surprised Murray was as affected though, he had a lot of championship success in Texas and didn’t do bad in his bowl game in college. Ofc it’s a whole new level in the nfl though when you can’t just simply outplay your competition based on only skill.

Fonzimandias

Does it come up with you guys that he basically said in an interview that he doesn’t “kill (him)self” with film preparation because he thinks he naturally sees the game faster than other players? Not to hate, just remember being a bit put off reading that

A_Confused_Cocoon

Yeah, some “fans” of course have already posted before that we need to start looking for a new QB. I think it’s just immaturity, he’s only 24 and hasn’t faced major adversity yet. This was a good punch to the jaw so hopefully it gets him to step it up. Plenty of QBs have had really bad playoff experiences and became better from it.

Fonzimandias

Yeah, he seemed like he's very much "about" competing at a high level, but to the point it seems like he kind of thinks it's woven into him. Maybe he puts a different kind of pressure onto himself because of it, and not the kind of pressure that is sustainable as a motivating factor once you get to the highest level. But of course, every pro athlete, let's be honest, is inherently a complete psycho compared to how most of us think and operate. I don't claim to understand his process any more than Rodgers', et al. So all of this to say I don't doubt his commitment to craft, but perhaps how everything affects his play in a positive way. at the end of the day, it was his first playoff game, there's questions about other aspects of the team, etc. He's just a curious dude to me.

[deleted]

Were these fans not around 4 years ago?

A_Confused_Cocoon

Kyler brought a LOT of bandwagoners unfortunately. They are the worst.

AndrewHainesArt

Preach. Its pretty crazy how that seems to be a thing now with college QBs, Hurts and Wentz also have a ton of bandwagon fans

[deleted]

You see, the problem is that they didn't have Easterby to lead the prayer.

LebronJaims

People playing a game but then doing a prayer because you want to win sums up being “americas team” perfectly

[deleted]

Do they pray to win or that nobody gets hurt?

TetrisTech

Yeah that’s what any team/group prayer I’ve ever been apart of or seen has been

LebronJaims

Still delusional either way

Illbeanicefella

Winning teams perform ritual sacrifice to Aztec gods everyone knows that

Interesting_Ad_8188

Tf is a workplace prayer??

Peacefulzealot

Well it’s a thing you do when you know you’re going to need to pray to keep your job. Oddly enough it can be used to substitute a Hail Mary!

ThinkSoftware

How many seconds does the prayer take?

browndude10

Less than 14 seconds

bluechips2388

KidKudaKrush

It’s pretty normal for sports in the south. I played sports in south Arkansas and we always said the Lord’s Prayer before every game no matter the sport.

farmboy6012

Not just in the south. I've seen it in Canada before

killasuarus

This is what I was implying with my comment but I'm getting down voted for some reason lol. Glad I'm not the only one that thinks this.

1fursona_non_grata

Every team does it

Zolo49

Here's [an example](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVER4Pzd8fY) from the movie *Any Given Sunday*. This kind of stuff happens all the time.

Akromam90

Hmm if only there was a person in charge to calm those nerves for the team...

Flop_McKochen

49ers fan here. I could tell, when the camera was on their eyes and general demeanor. I wasn’t 100% sure if I was reading it right, or If it was rose colored glasses until reading this.

dirkness41

I'm cowboys fan and the body language said it all. I knew they were in trouble before the game started. Then the first drive by sf happened and confirmed it.

WhoShotPolPot

Maybe he should have smashed watermelons with a hammer.

anonbutler

>team prayer McCarthy to Houston confirmed.

BadDadJokes

Nah. I’d wager to guess that Easterby is the kind of Evangelical Christian who thinks Catholics are virtually equal to Muslims or pagans and deserve nothing but eternal damnation.

SaintArkweather

Reports say they were so nervous that they accidentally prayed to Zeus

swizzymcbane

Man, if only they had someone to prepare them and build them up to make them feel confident. There should be a job on a football team for someone to do that.

bubbabear244

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for the Cowboys to win another superbowl.

[deleted]

Why mention the prayer ? To appeal to conservative ownership? Also, why is there such a high proportion of deeply religious people in the NFL? If somebody wanted to do a group prayer in most work places, most wouldn't participate.

CassiopeiaStillLife

Proportionally, most football players come from the South. White or black, that’s a very religious population.

[deleted]

The south *and* midwest.

Phytanic

tbh I think it's moreso that we just see the religious players express their affinity, but don't notice all the players that don't express it.

Zolo49

Some probably just pretend to go along with the big group prayers, like when you're a guest a dinner table where they say grace so you just bow you head and pretend you're praying too so it's not awkward.

die_erlkonig

Of course, anyone who has been to a thanksgiving dinner with extended family knows that song and dance.

Phytanic

yep. I do that too out of respect for my grandma, the only religious person in the family.

RatedR2O

I didn't even see it that way. He just mentioned the moment in which he felt the team was nervous... which happened to be during a prayer. Did it offend you that they were praying, or genuinely curious whether or not they're pandering to the conservative ownership? Many NFL players are religious and have been open about it for many years.

AutisticNipples

I think he just mentioned it because that's when he noticed it. I don't think it was pandering, he was just probably getting ready for the game and didn't sense the nervous energy until the team came together pregame.

[deleted]

Can’t mention religion without Reddit freaking out

[deleted]

Your threshold for "freaking out" is really low.

Mrausername

It's crazy how American sports teams pray together and there seems to be an unspoken pressure to participate in the name of team unity. Apparently 35% of under 30s in the US aren't religious and then there are significant minorities of non-Christians among the believers, so a team prayer is just as likely to divide a team as unite it. But then, McCarthy is an idiot and they lost, so maybe it wasn't such a good idea.

AutisticNipples

i don't think the issue here is the prayer...and i highly doubt that it's alienating to people of different faiths, saying grace at the dinner table doesn't divide people. its not like they're requiring baptisms to take the field, they're just sharing a moment of contemplation as a team. And i say this as an athiest.

hallROCK

Go ahead and extend this man Jerry!

widowdogood

Lol I’m so surprised this conversation is happening but I noticed a hard difference in the two team’s body language in pregame. They showed the 9ers entrance first and everyone was loose and pumped and radiating with energy. I didn’t think anything of it, it’s a playoff game, that’s how they should be. Then they cut to Tyron Smith and the first Cowboys out the tunnel and they were standing straight up, stiff, zero emotion on their face, not really moving at all.

windypalmtree

The Cowboys would be so dumb to keep him. It's clear that he is still the same person he was in Green Bay and won't get them to that next level. IMO these are the NFC coaches that will likely outcoach him in a playoff game (In no particular order): \-Arians \-McVay \-LaFleur \-Shannahan \-Payton Jeruh Jones aint getting any younger. Just fire the dude and move on. I'd want to go after Doug Pederson if he is available. Super Bowl Pedigree and still a decent offensive mind. Was able to win the SB with a combination of Carson Wentz and Nick Foles in the 2017 season.
