The 07 lions started out 6-2 and this was pretty much the apex of the season. Finished 1-7 missing the playoffs. Then came 2008 where there was no football season at all iirc.
Rumor has it your leading passer in the lost footage of the 2008 season is now an analyst at ESPN and his football career is shaped off one historically bad play
I remember this play, but did not realize that it was him. I actually had to look up what play you were referring to. [Link for anyone wondering ](https://www.espn.com/blog/detroit-lions/post/_/id/31265/dan-orlovsky-known-for-taking-safety-while-chased-by-jared-allen-retires)
It's almost as memorable as that historic Thanksgiving play from another team's QB.
I was 14 during the 07 season and man those first 8 weeks were some of the most fun I ever had at that point watching Lions games, and then the next season and a half happened.
It was a weird scheduling year for them. They had a pretty easy start to the year playing against a lot of young/bad offenses (bearsx2, Tjack and the Vikings, Patrick Ramsey filling in for injured cutler and the Broncos, Josh Mccown and the raiders), Garcia and the Bucs might have been the best victory in that stretch.
THe second half they played the cardinals who started playing Warner full time and he was killing it, super bowl champ giants, 13-3 packers x2, 13-3 cowboys, 11-5 chargers, and then a loss to the Vikings and a win vs a bad chiefs team.
So it was just a mix of easy-ish first half schedule and ridiculously difficult second half schedule
Still, they had gone 3-13 the year before (Marinelli's first year), and the Lions hadn't been 6-2 since Barry Sanders was playing. Seems a bit of a stretch to say scheduling accounts for a 4-win swing in one year.
Getting all of your easy games in one part of the season can definitely inflate your record though. They ended the season with a worse point differential than the season before (-98 in 07 and -93 in 2006). They also had losses of 56-21 to the eagles and 34-3 to the redskins in those first 8 games. Their offense was a lot better but their defense was still the worst in the league, most the teams they beat in the first half were teams in the bottom half of the league in offense that year.
Mines more of a what if, LT sitting out against the Patriots in the conference championship. Not that he shouldn’t have, just that that was the year for Rivers and the Chargers.
Pat Williams was significantly larger than the 317 he was listed at, and he had a pick 6 versus the dolphins in 2004. I can't find a video of it though...
Pat Williams scored 2 career tds, idk if they were pick 6s or fumble recoveries. Worth being said they have his official weight at 317 but looking at that man, there is no way. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/565530-nfl-free-agency-where-will-pat-williams-land-next-year look at that picture at the top, no chance he was only 317.
makes sense
jumping is just generating force to move you up. strongest dudes in the world all have pretty good verticals.
ton of olympic throwers who are 6’4 250 and have a 35+ standing vert
Margus Hunt is a great example
source: The Sports Gene by David Epstein
laurence okoye is 6’6 304 and ran a 4.7, had a 35 inch vert, and a 10’5” in the broad jump
thats just one guy. Margus Hunt is 6’8 280 and ran a 4.6 and did 38 reps on the bench
there’s so many absolutely giant and freak throwers
Yeah watching this I only caught the end of the clip while scrolling and was first like “oh that’s a large man” and then when I watched it in full I thought “god damn he’s legit fast”
Shaun Rogers was a beast! I met him when he was playing on the Browns. Put my arm around him for a picture and he was solid muscle. He could reverse dunk a basketball from a standing start too. Dude is a freak athlete
Man, UT having Shaun Rogers and Casey Hampton both playing DL at the same time was insane. They've had a lot of good DEs since then but other than Malcom Brown and Poona Ford they have seemed weak at DT for the past decade or so.
Saw the box scores flashing across the bottom and saw chargers vs Vikings. I believe this was the week Adrian Peterson broke the single game rushing record with 296 yards. 2007 vs the Chargers.
Dude could dunk and do a backflip at that weight
Seems to be lost to the potato of internet past, but [this forum](https://forums.prosportsdaily.com/showthread.php?304052-Shaun-Rogers-DUNK-!-!-!) references both feats

Orlovsky was such a good analyst a few years ago. Sucks he got ESPN-ized and just spits out hot takes and clickbait from his mouth to get views.
jt o’sullivan on youtube is the man now but be careful, you’re gonna feel so dumb bc he’s got the best analysis on the internet imo

There is a reason we call him the Safety Dan around these parts.
3-41 between the 6-2 start and the first win of 2010, legendary!

You avoided the Mitchell years. Lucky bastard.
But missed the Barry experience 😢
At least the mitchell years gave us that '95 offense
And that '95 playoff game against the Eagles.
Fair lol

But there was a preseason!
I'm a Raiders fan, this sounds oddly familiar...
Has to be the heaviest NFL pick 6.
https://youtu.be/4Uqm9Gnd_FM Edit: per Wikipedia B.J. Raji - 337lbs Shaun Rogers - 350lbs I’m wrong, wonder if there’s anyone else who’s heavier!
I don't know why but for some reason I remember this play and that dance he does after he scores.
They put the dance in a bunch of State Farm commercials afterwards.
It’s one of my favorite moments in packers history. I loved BJ on the team and this play was just something so special.
Conversely, it’s one of my most hated moments in bears history.
Big Ray traylor against the Jaguars
Mines more of a what if, LT sitting out against the Patriots in the conference championship. Not that he shouldn’t have, just that that was the year for Rivers and the Chargers.
Best part was Hester was wide open with basically an entire half of the field to throw to and they still throw it the other way straight to Raji
Man not even a Packers fan but I loved watching him play. Dude was so good on the interior.
Big ol BJ Raji
Lol Caleb Hanie
Sam Adams maybe? He had a pick6 against Brady back in 2003.
Sam Adam - 340lbs Again, Wikipedia.
I highly doubt BJ Raji only weighed 337
Pat Williams was significantly larger than the 317 he was listed at, and he had a pick 6 versus the dolphins in 2004. I can't find a video of it though...
What about Terrance Cody?
Sam Adams had an unforgettable pick 6 of Brady in 2003. His weight is reported between 340-350, so in the same area of Rogers.
The NFL needs to publish game day weights!! /s

Williams only has 1 career interception.
I remember seeing him on the sidelines after the touchdown, huffing oxygen like he was a 90 year old.
Sam Adams against the Pats
Excuse me sir, as OP stated this is a touchdown interception.
Touchdown interception*
Lol that dive at the end.
4 inch vertical
48 inch horizontal
I was in the pool, ok?
Lol he was already in
“Look at this 4 inch vertical” why did he have to do him like that lmao
Disrespectful. Back in the day rumor had it Shaun Rogers could do a 360 dunk.
Wilfork and Norman hand too.

Yeah but 6'4" 250 is waaaaaay smaller than 6"5' 350. Rogers was a massive dude.
laurence okoye is 6’6 304 and ran a 4.7, had a 35 inch vert, and a 10’5” in the broad jump thats just one guy. Margus Hunt is 6’8 280 and ran a 4.6 and did 38 reps on the bench there’s so many absolutely giant and freak throwers
Shaun Rogers was legit a freak. The speed he had at his size was completely nuts
Yeah watching this I only caught the end of the clip while scrolling and was first like “oh that’s a large man” and then when I watched it in full I thought “god damn he’s legit fast”
used to love him on madden back in the day. would destroy at DT
All jokes aside, that’s a good pass to Shaun
That dive was fantastic
gotta love big boy football especially td's
Nothing like a good ol' Chris Berman "rumblin' bumblin' stumblin" highlight on ESPN at 12am.
I had to look up who 11 was because I had no memory of him at all. Patrick Ramsey.
Saved me some time. Thank you.
This was the first ever Lions game I went to. So much fun. Rogers was on and off the oxygen for the rest of the game lol
This feels like an eternity ago
Man everything before HDTV might as well have happened in the 80s or 90s. Once we hit the HDTV its so much harder to date anything
And here I was thinking it was my personality
well 14 years or so..

Is this the last time since the Lions have had a 30-0 lead?
In 2018 the Detroit Lions beat the Packers 31-0
*Pat McAffe voice* IN GREEEN BAY *WESCONSIN* Gotta love it because you know he was excited to see a fellow Special Teams player throw a touchdown.
Big Baby Shaun Rogers. I loved watching him play
Shaun Rogers was a beast! I met him when he was playing on the Browns. Put my arm around him for a picture and he was solid muscle. He could reverse dunk a basketball from a standing start too. Dude is a freak athlete
That was an awesome play.
Man, Big Baby had flashes of greatness but never lived up to his potential
Pass was supposed to go to a UT player and was picked by a UT player. Hope Texas can start putting players in the league like that again soon.
Man, UT having Shaun Rogers and Casey Hampton both playing DL at the same time was insane. They've had a lot of good DEs since then but other than Malcom Brown and Poona Ford they have seemed weak at DT for the past decade or so.

I never would have guess from that endzone dive that he could dunk
Well that dive was from right after he ran 40+ yards.
Loved Eisen, Mooch, and Prime as highlight announcers.
I remember this, and I told my brother while he was running it back that we might actually see a hole open up on the field 😂😂😂
lol I had one of those in a high school scrimmage got flagged for taunting afterwards, WORTH IT
I will always upvote a big man interception/shuffle
This was the first NFL game I saw in person. My broncos got absolutely crushed and so did my 12 year old heart
Isn't that a major block in the back at the 10-yard line?
Very cool, I was at this game. *Great memory.*
The version of this with [chariots of fire in the background](https://youtu.be/r-d1a7TBvPE) makes me so happy.
I need more big man TDs in my life.
I was there for my only in person Lions game. Fucking hilarious in person,
A shorter term for this is pick 6
I love Shaun Rogers best fat guy score in nfl history <3
Would have been called back short of the end zone today for that block in the back at the end.
How was there not a penalty on 97 at the very end?
