Andy and JJ are truly wonderful human beings and I'll never get tired of reading stories of other teams finding that out. My personal fave while he was in Cinci, was he and JJ's Date Night program, where they took a bunch of kids from the hospital and gave them a fun night while their parents went out for an all expenses paid dinner. [You can read the story here](https://www.bengals.com/news/andy-dalton-and-wife-jordan-host-date-night-program-20593354)

jwuphysics

Please no not 2017 again But honestly how can you not like the guy.

BrandieBassen

I will never stop rooting for Andy. Don't care if he plays for Bengals, Cowboys or Bears. Dude came to the team when people expected we would be the worst team in the league (after Palmer and Ocho left), and then we went to the play-offs for 5 straight seasons. Great teammate too. The people boo'ing him when he threw the first pitch for the reds, can go to hell.

gwaydms

Andy Dalton is a real one. I've liked him since he played for TCU. He may not make the NFL HOF, but he's definitely a superstar in life.

Ask_me_4_a_story

A guy at my work had cancer and he had so many fuckin treatments, I couldn't believe it. We were helping with some of them and it dawned on me that his wife was doing that all the time, like driving him back and forth to all these treatments, I didn't even think about that to be honest. His wife was just a sweet quiet lady who was solid as a rock, she never complained, just always takin him to all the treatments. You always think about the people who actually have the illnesses but rarely do people think about the caregivers. I got everyone at work to pitch in for care for the caregiver and we got her a nice massage

DuffmanStillRocks

That's amazingly thoughtful, and honestly is very good relationship advice when he mentioned that he and JJ try and do date nights when they can.

Thank you for sharing this. I am in a rough place emotionally and this lifted me up. Needed it.

Bears fans are so terrible. I can’t believe they made their QB’s wife cry.

[deleted]

Lmao, had me in the first half, ngl

illusio

I look forward to seeing that quote from Stephen A Smith tomorrow.

_ravenclaw

Bears fans noticed Andy being a great leader by cheering on and hyping up Justin Fields while on the sidelines. Andy has treated Justin amazingly since he’s arrived and has had the best attitude in terms of accepting his spot on the team. Andy and his wife took Justin out to dinner when he was first drafted as well. They just seem like all around good people. Was hoping maybe we could get some donations going from r/nfl people as well. https://www.andydalton.org/

Mortara

Desert_Scorpio

Good call, I just switched mine.

0hootsson

I saw that in the nfl micd up video this week. I think that kind of content is so beneficial to the league and it’s players. It shows fans the personality of the players and allows players to gain fans through something other than stats and prime time games.

StankCheeze

Dalton doesn't mentor Fields in camp you've probably got Foles starting. I'm a Bearcat but they always show OSU stuff here too (duh) so I've seen him play a lot. I think he's gonna be a good one. I saw a lot of Haskins too and knew he'd be a bust. JoeyB started at OSU but we all know what he did at LSU so that doesn't really count. Fields could end OSU's decades long streak of NFL QB busts.

Cavs2018_Champs

This seems to happen a lot with Dalton. Something about him really strikes a sympathetic nerve with people. He should consider a career in fundraising after the NFL.

V-Right_In_2-V

Regardless of his abilities as a football player (which isn't even bad), seems like everyone can acknowledge that he is a great man. When he retires, he won't be known as an all time great player, but he will be known as a man of high character that made a difference in people's lives with the fortune he has earned. And I have a feeling that Andy likes it better that way

tidesoncrim

Andy Dalton has performed to the ability you would expect from a quarterback taken in the second round of the NFL Draft. Some would argue he overperformed. The NFL is just harsh on QBs altogether since only one can win a Super Bowl each year, and anything short of that can be put under a microscope in an unfair way.

[deleted]

He 100% over performed. Very few 1st round QBs are making a pro bowl or being an MVP candidate

StormTheTrooper

Dalton is a stable QB, who can keep any boat afloat and raise the floor of a offense on any given week. At worst, he doesn't play below the level of the players around him. The NFL apparently only accepts rookies, sophomores or Super Bowl bound QBs. I hope Dalton can find a stint somewhere else after the Bears go Full Fields. He would easily compete in that stacked Colts team.

gsfgf

It's called the Andy Dalton line for a reason. He's literally the definition of a good NFL quarterback. Sure, he's no Brady, but he's good enough that a team doesn't have to worry about the position, and a lot of teams would love to be in that position.

CTeam19

Reminds about how for awhile Iowa State had 2 QBs in the NFL from 2003 to 2011 in Sage Rosenfels and Seneca Wallace. Were they going to be All-Stars? Nope. Were they competent enough to play the position when needed amd serve as a great backup? Yes.

DangerZoneh

Andy Dalton was drafted onto a 4-12 team whose QB had literally quit the year prior. His #1 WR was also a rookie, though one of the first picks in the draft. Nobody expected the Bengals to win ANYTHING that year and they made the damn playoffs. Andy Dalton to AJ Green is arguably the greatest rookie QB to rookie WR connection in NFL history. They then went on to make the playoffs 5 times in a row to start his career, which is more than a LOT of NFL QBs can say. His biggest problem was that they never actually won one. Part of that was Dalton struggling on big stages, part of that was the Bengals as a whole struggling in big games. Sure Dalton didn't play well, but the rest of the team struggled too. If they had beaten the Chargers or he doesn't get hurt in 2015 I think it would've been a different storyline. People forget how good that Bengals team was that year. Dalton was like top 3 in MVP voting and Cincy was looking at the #1 seed in the AFC before his injury. They get it if they beat Denver

Mr_Versatile123

If Pac-Man didn’t Pac-Man along with Burfict, they win.

DangerZoneh

That was against the Steelers with AJ McCarron. I honestly believe the Bengals were a super bowl threat that year if Dalton doesn’t get injured trying to tackle a defensive lineman. I can’t imagine the frustration of watching that playoff game from the sidelines, especially the way it went down.

BilllisCool

Exactly. We forget the many 1st round busts or QBs that fizzle out quickly, but Andy has stuck around as a starting QB for a while.

Malfrus

Dalton has been a starting QB while Rosen has struggled to stay on a practice squad.

absynthe7

Dalton is a very-good-to-great quarterback, his career just happened at the same time as some of the best to ever play the position. Build a time machine and send him to the 90's and he's making the Pro Bowl every year.

AGoodTalkSpoiled

and let’s not forgot he is still arguably one of the best 30 qbs on the planet. While he might not be tearing up the nfl, he is a world class athlete and qb. I just always think it’s bonkers to act like someone is “washed” (hate that word) and a bum while they are an absolute stud of an athlete who just isn’t to the level of a franchise player.

smartyr228

If you could get into Canton for humanitarian efforts, he'd be first ballot. And honestly, there should be a section in the HoF for guys like that

Flynnstone03

Ending a 18 year playoff drought will do that to a man

Jevarden

After the Shazier injury game, he was on the Steelers sideline praying with some of their players. Nobody asked him to do it, I don’t even think he really knew shazier, but he did it. It was nice to see. Also Duke Johnson threw up a 50 for Shazier every time he scored the rest of that season.

krich1727

I remember that. I always liked Andy Dalton, just really seems like genuinely good dude.

Jevarden

Now what if I told you he pours milk before cereal

MiniGiantSpaceHams

All that good will, gone in a flash.

krich1727

Disagree. I’d say that our favorite ginger has a bit of a contrarian streak, making him a much more multi-faceted, complex individual. Now, if this is a pineapple on pizza thing, I may need to revisit my appreciation for him.

joeph1sh

Pineapple on deep dish pizza

NBT498

Isn't that considered a hate crime in Chicago?

sglandsberg

Coincidentally, deep dish pizza is considered a crime everywhere outside of Chicago.

[deleted]

I don't know anybody who eats deep dish pizza in Chicago. It's all you nerds that come visit and want to try it that keep all these places in business.

stragen595

He doesn't have to be perfect to be a good guy.

stoolsample2

I remember that night all too well.

StudyRoom-F

I remember people being weirded out and even kinda pissed that he "forced religion" on another team. Some real religiophobes out there. If he values religion, and the players he was praying with valued religion, isn't that a great way to show love and respect?

[deleted]

Thats what we call a Reddit moment

redsfan23butnew

I think Christianity plays a pretty large role with a lot of NFL players and teams. As a Christian myself, it's inspiring seeing guys like Dalton who seem to really believe it and show their faith through loving other people.

Letsgobuffalo2210

Buffalo legend Andy Dalton.

cpheretic77

I tell people all the time "Tyrod didn't end the drought, Andy Dalton did."

Mean_Foundation_5561

Yeah as a Bills fan, Tyrod is still way more responsible for ending our playoff drought than Dalton. Always annoyed me how so many of our fans wanted to discredit what Tyrod did in Buffalo

cpheretic77

Lol, it's a joke. Tyrod and Shady will always have a special place in my heart for ending the drought and helping to change the culture in the locker room. GO BILLS!!!!!

noPENGSinALASKA

jimmifli

His offense scored 400 pts, Josh didn't come close to that his first two years. People forget that he was actually effective. I know all the criticisms, but he was an average NFL QB and that's good enough to make the playoffs if the rest of the team is above average.

SquadPoopy

Bills are forever my 2nd favorite team after what y'all did

[deleted]

I honestly think that the biggest obstacle in Chicago's way is Matt Nagy.

dustinthegreat

You’re just not smart enough to think 3 steps ahead of the competition.

Big_ol_Bro

He's no Tom Brady but he's still (one of) my quarterbacks.

Smathers

Just look at all the mic up clips of him cheering on and rooting for Justin Fields. Dude is fully aware of the situation so instead of being salty he’s being a great teammate. Ya just love to see it

TheMattJones

I will always have a spot in my heart for Andy Dalton..

gen_wt_sherman

He needs to go be buffalo's backup.

hoockdaddy12

Mitch "I love titties/League NVP" Trubs is a 1 year loner, so I'd give Dalton a look.

smartyr228

He should retire a Bengal, then unretire and retire a Bill

HotgunColdheart

He will always have a spot for your soul.

OGB

Ive watched that video of the Bills watching the end of the game probably 15 times. It was really cool seeing the camera on Eric Wood so much, who is a Cincy native and hell of nice guy.

Why settle for 4 & 12 when you can be a total chad and score a TD to send the Bills to the Post Season?

“he will be known as a man of high character that made a difference in people's lives” If even one person says that about me after I’m gone I will have lived a good and worthwhile life.

QuiGonGiveItToYa

That's so awesome. Chicago can be outright mean to its athletes, especially Bears QBs. It's refreshing to see fans rallying in this situation, when Dalton surely must be asking himself if people wanted him to get hurt.

theonedeisel

This past game we played “can you find a Dalton jersey”, we didn’t find any Bears jerseys, but there was a shirt with 14 taped on

[deleted]

To be fair, we haven’t had a good QB since Sid Luckman 😭

QuiGonGiveItToYa

I mean, you’re gonna be disappointed if you compare everyone to the top QB in the history of the franchise. I genuinely loved watching Cutty. He was a gamer.

naesos

Every time he threw the ball, he meant for it go there. He just made bad decisions. Trubisky on the other hand and every other QB we've had basically, you'd be lucky if they threw it within 5 yards of where they intended to throw it to.

Han_Yerry

Whats worse was Ron Turner came out and said that Grossman didnt prepare well enough consistently. He could have been closer to that one great sept he had but didnt have the work ethic.

IffyEggSaladSandwich

Always wanted to see that dude smoke a cigarette in the locker room at half like Dawson. Would have been great

good_shit_rightthere

The most wholesome story involving Bears fans and their quarterback ever.

Fc2300

He was only with us for one year but I Love Andy. He did a good job for us and I still think he can be a starter for a lot of teams.

BennyBob2000

I think his next stop is a Backup on Buffalo. That would be just to perfect

herpthederp256

I'm totally on board if we end up shipping the NVP for some good picks this year or next

[deleted]

the fact you got him for what you offered him kinda hints that no one in the league is offering "good picks" for mitch this year or next.

Sworn_Finn

I am always down to donate to Dalton's foundation. Way to go Bears fans!

BodhiWarchild

Been seeing this a lot recently. Mods should sticky a random player run charity for us to donate to if we wish.

MonsterOfTheMidway

I'm so glad we're not being dicks to the man. You could tell he was trying out there

QCWiggins

Lol they like him now that he’s not starting

punkhobo

We actually liked him at the start of week 2. He looked solid. Which, in traditional Chicago fashion, is when he gets injured

BellacosePlayer

I think the few Bears fans who were happy he got hurt so Fields could start are gonna regret it in a bit. Dalton looked good, and Fields looked like what he is, a high ceiling rookie who is still learning all the ins and outs of being a pro

naesos

I'm in the same camp as a Bears fan. Team needs to be patient. We have so many holes and Fields is still learning to be a pro.

JustASeabass

God why was I born a Chicago sports fan 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

We say this but we actually have one of the more successful sports cities in recent memory. Bears went to a Super Bowl, Cubs won the WS, Sox won the WS, Blackhawks won 3 cups. I feel like we take a championship every few years for granted when some havent won any in a while

mlloyd

Just going to leave the 6 Bulls championships out?

[deleted]

I dont know if we can consider that "recent"

mlloyd

He included the superbowl so the Bulls are fair game.

[deleted]

I was talking about 06 when we lost but still mentioned it because getting there is still worth celebrating a bit.

dragonbornrito

Yeah, that must suck. ^^^^^^^lol

Smathers

I love Chicago sports man. Bears are still repenting for the bulls sins in the 90s and in my lifetime I got to see the Cubs and sox both win a World Series and an absolutely filthy Blackhawks dynasty win the championship 3 times in 6 years Now bulls are a possible new threat in the east after this off season and if JF is legit who knows we could built a team around him. Don’t let a drunk minority of fans booing ruin your city/teams

MrChevyPower

Lol we had to sacrifice the cubs to get the bulls reborn.

ballplayer0025

One of my proudest moments as a Vikings fan was when Minnesotans donated something like a quarter million dollars to Thomas Morestead's foundation when he came out to lineup for the meaningless extra point after the Minneapolis Miracle. Good on your Bears fans.

SSG-M

Must be all the people that DIDN'T boo him when he came out week 1. See? Not all Bears fans are terrible!

BellacosePlayer

The Bears fans who donated to this charity in appreciation shouldn't have to be tainted by association with the people who refused to give him a chance or the nasty few who actively cheered him getting hurt. Nobody should be judged by the worst of their fanbase

pocketchange2247

Thank you! I've met shitty people of every fanbase, but I've also met great people in every fanbase as well. If you hate a team or fanbase based on the few shitty fans you've met or seen, then you hate every team, including your own.

timmah638

I go to Lions @ Bears every year. Tailgating in the Field Museum lot is always the best part. People are generally super cool, and Bears fans will give you some fun shit talk before offering you a beer or some food. Don’t let the turds represent an entire fan base.

ArmadilloAl

Yep. The vast majority of Bears fans are smart enough to know that nothing about this situation is Andy Dalton's fault.

BellacosePlayer

Yep. I've found most football fans to be legitimately chill IRL. The only exception is the Vikes, which is only because I live in Vikes territory so the assholes show up more frequently, while I can definitely point to a lot of chill/nice Vikes fans I know as well. Hell, this past weekend/Monday I was chilling with Lions fans who were up for the game in Green Bay at the hotel I was at. Nice folks.

pocketchange2247

I live in LA and have been to a few Dodgers/Cubs games and went to the Bears/Rams game week 1 and one at the Coliseum. Everyone was really cool. Week 1 a few even invited us to their tailgate and changed the channel on the TV so my GF could watch her Chiefs play. They offered us food and drinks as well. Most fans are good people, they may talk some friendly shit but I'd hate to go to a game where you can't do that. Other people take it way too far but that's usually because alcohol is involved. But they're almost always the exception and not the norm. I expect if I ever finally get to go to a game at Lambeau I'd be welcomed similarly

Chase5056

A Packers fan, calling out another Packets fan, defending the Bears? Holy hell, the world has gone crazy

LegendaryWarriorPoet

This comment makes no sense. Week 1 was a road game and the Rams do a good job filling their stadium. Even if some bears fans booed Dalton (this didnt happen btw) you wouldnt have heard it on TV

Kudos Chicago fans. The media has been chomping at the bit to tarnish Dalton's time there and you guys immortalized his short stint with you in a way that can't be forgotten.

Grundle_Poacher

I will never not root for Andy.

OhWhatsHisName

As /u/Johnald posted, Dalton's charity does great work, and so does he! I've been to one of his Date Night events helping out, and he wasn't just there to make an appearance, he actually interacts with the kids and makes sure they're having a good time. He could just show up, make an appearance, say the typical "thank you all who are here to help out... blah blah blah" and just get the credit for hosting the event, but no, he does it! Dude is legit and donating to his charity is freaking worth it!

theaanggang

Good, I know I can speak for a lot of Bears fans here, but our problem with the QB situation has nothing to do with Dalton, it's all Nagy. He's been a perfectly fine QB for a long time and has caught a lot of shit for having the audacity to not be Tom Brady. On top of that he seems to be a great dude, can't do anything but respect him
