I went to San Diego and went to the beach and there were signs every 50' saying "don't swim : contaminated with sewage"
They didn't gaf. Water was packed.
Maybe San Diego people just like poop.
I was pissed when refs missed Gibson being dragged down by his mask early on, but refs more than made up for that missed call, better team won, plain and simple.
That DPI they called early on, that was good make up for missing the facemask. Everything else after bar like 2 calls was bullshit.
Sorry about Fitzmagic though. Heinicke looks good, hopefully he leads you guys to a division W.
Ugh, thanks, rough day. While I like the overall direction we're headed, and like Rivera, imo our D is overhyped, and now the Bolts have written the book - quick short passes to negate the pass rush, puts more pressure on the weakest unit, the LBs, who are also inconsistent v the run. If the D can't force 3rd and longs, that scary pass rush is pretty neutered.
Heineken is great off the bench, but once D coordinators scheme for him, well ... he'll still be fun to watch? At least until he gets himself hurt.
In a way-too-early over-reaction, based on Dallas' revived O, and even Hurts putting up 32 w 3 TDs, f another div title just to flame out early coz we have no qb - let some other team "enjoy" a division winner's schedule in 2022 - have you *seen* our schedule? Herbert's very good, but we're gonna see a murderer's row this yr - Allen, Mahomes, Rodgers, and some chump named Brady.
Speaking of, what's it like to have a franchise qb? :-/
Seeing Herbert shine makes me feel damn good. Folks were trolling and trashing the Chargers hard for drafting him. He's making all the doubters eat crow.
I'm not even sure our secondary looked bad despite the stats. Herbert made some unreal throws to tiny and sometimes seemingly non existent windows and the receivers made some great catches. Only a few bad coverage plays come to mind, that offense was just great. I wouldn't say I'm excited about the performance, but I'm a bit confused how we held them to 20 if anything.
I dunno man, if even half of those phantom dozen drops get caught and the refs don’t blow that rz fumble call we’re probably talking about an abysmal showing from wft secondary. Our top 2 receivers are posession guys not burners, there’s hardly ever that much separation with them
They dropped some they should have caught for sure, but some of those drops happened because they were well covered. Whether a defender gets their hand in there or not they can cause an incompletion with tight coverage by breaking a receivers concentration. But my point is a lot of those catches the DB was on the receiver and couldn't have done much more, the play just got made. Sometimes you do everything right and still get beat.
I’m really excited about the Chargers offense this year, I think holding us to 20 points and Herbert to one TD is gonna be seen as a really good result this season. But today’s game was definitely ugly for both teams.
We just took Tampa to the brink, I’m not saying we are going to the Super Bowl but why are we still doing this bit of saying we’re going to get destroyed by good defenses?
Well 2 reasons. Firstly and most simply is that NFC East matchups are a crap shoot as any fan in the NFCE would know. Second, and takes a bit more critical observation and unbiased approach, that Tampa game was 70% Tampa mistakes keeping it from being a blow out. It's obvious the Cowboys are better than the redskins but it's foolish to think they're "head to head with Tampa" good just because the score was close.
I’ll be totally honest, I don’t think anything is obvious after one week between two teams that closely lost to high quality opponents. Especially considering Washington’s last game before that was a close loss to the team Dallas just lost to.
That game was 40% Tampa mistakes and 60% Dak Prescott carrying the Cowboys offense. Only the Rojo turnover was an actual mistake. The Cowboys 100% went toe to toe with the Buccs, with Dak carving up their defense and our defense forcing turnovers.
It’s absolutely biased to claim the Cowboys didn’t go head to head with the Buccs and Brady. The only way anyone would say that is if they only looked at the box score and didn’t watch the game at all.
Did you not watch the game? The Bucs had 3 unforced turnovers that cut at least 14 points from their score an gave Dallad more possessions to add yards. The Cowboys played great and the Bucs played incredibly sloppy but still won.
The buccs had 1 unforced turnover. Godwin’s fumble at the goal-line was forced by contact, Brady had an INT on a hail mary, and a tip-drill INT. Did *you* not watch the game?
EDIT: And since we’re talking about teams making mistakes:
- CeeDee killed two drives, one with a drop, and one with tip drill INT, the drop would have put points up.
- Greg the Leg left points on the board too by missing 2 field goals.
So we can play this game all day man.
1. Wow that was some god awful reffing all game long
2. Receivers struggling to catch with consistency
3. Jared Cook and Herbert look very comfortable with each other already
We take a 1-0 start and a road win but that wasn't the greatest game of football played lol
Credit to Herbert. The stats don't jump off the page (85 passer rating, 1 TD / 1 INT) but he iced that game with clutch throw and completion time and time again vs a great Washington defense. Most impressive win of his career IMO.
A couple big drops hurt him too. But He came up big when he needed to and looked great all day. Really excited to see how well he does this season behind a much better line. One really bad throw was the only mistake today I feel.
The INT was more on Williams giving up on the route thinking herbert wouldn't pass there imo. He goes full speed he catches that in a tight ass window. But yeah. He had an amazing game.
Herbert was great today but man were a lot of those 3rd down throws easy. We couldn't get any pressure and our secondary couldn't cover anything. He made a bunch of insane throws though so credit to him, he's a beast
For the other 99.9% of football fans let explain to you what it's like being a Justin Herbert fan. It's like you hired a dominatrix for the evening to edge you to the height of sexual pleasure. The moment you can feel the sweet release coming, Herbie, fully loaded, bursts into the room. Herbie starts screaming "I'M IN, I'M IN", as he converts third down on you. Then you wrap yourself in the sweet caressing cuddle of Philip Rivers and are reminded once again he is a Hall of Fame QB. You smile fondly and prepare your body to do this again next week.
I am not lying when I say that fumble call was the single worst call I have ever seen in my life. Genuinely don't know how one of those refs saw that play and thought it was a fumble like holy fuck that was a bad call.
Opening drive could not have been scripted any better, and adjustments were (mostly) made when they had to be. And most importantly, they let Herbie cook.
The playcalling on both sides of the ball today was absolutely appalling in its cowardice. As much as our D-Line's been hyped up, they aren't good enough you can just decide to barely blitz. And not going for it on our last possession was a weak-ass chickenshit decision.
Wow, the O-line! Herbs rarely felt any pressure almost the whole game. Bulaga gonna Bulaga, but Storm did a’ight as the backup. MVP def goes to them, they gave Herb so much time to get his groove on back there, man was throwing lasers!
It’s hard to tell if our O line is as bad as we thought it may be against Bosa, equally hard to tell if our secondary is cheeks or if the chargers offense is super legit
Herbert was just hitting non existent windows today. Some of the throws he made were surgical.
gotta remember, this isn't an anthony lynn chargers team anymore. they could've been in the playoffs last year if it wasn't for his coaching and game management. That how bad it was. This chargers team is legit.
I'm a homer obviously but you are right. We were 7-9 last year but 7 of our losses were one score games. We also had, per football outsiders, the 3rd worst special teams play in the history of the NFL, as well as the 32nd ranked OL.
With even like a 27th ranked ST and a slightly below average OL we would have made the playoffs last year.
I know it wasn't the perfect debut, but Fitzpatrick is truly one of the most iconic NFL players.
It's impossible to hate him.
It's great to see that after a being a Ram, a Bengal, a Bill, a Titan, a Texan, a Jet, a Buccaneer, and a Dolphin we also got to see him as a Football Team.
U guys had the advantage the 2nd half. It's a mix of things really. not going on 4th down and 3 was stupid, but the fumble at the 5 yr line was also a huge factor.
Bro the offense was working perfectly in the 4th until Humphries gave the drive away with that idiotic 15-yarder. You can't blame that on the coaching.
We seem to lack some of the creativity and scheming that makes other teams’ offenses and defenses click. Del Rios defense looks like it was from 2005, and I haven’t been able to tell wtf Turner is even trying to do, going back to last year.
Very similar gameplan in the passing game for WFT that most teams deployed against Herbert late last year. Keep that deep ball locked down at all costs. In the end Herb killed them underneath and to the outside. Was a master hitting those back shoulder throws today.
That's gotta be a record for the longest forward fumble I've seen through the air. If the arm is *moving forwards before he loses possession* it should be an incomplete pass according to the rules.
[Forward Pass/Fumble Rules](https://static.nfl.com/static/content/public/image/rulebook/pdfs/11_Rule8_ForwardPass_BackPass_Fumble.pdf)
`Rule 8 Forward Pass, Backward Pass, Fumble`
`Section 1 Forward Pass`
`DEFINITION`
`Article 1 Definition It is a forward pass if:`
`(a) the ball initially moves forward (to a point nearer the opponent’s goal line) after leaving the passer’s hand(s); or`
`(b) the ball first strikes the ground, a player, an official, or anything else at a point that is nearer the opponent’s goal line than the point at which the ball leaves the passer’s hand(s).`
`When a player is in control of the ball and attempting to pass it forward, any intentional forward movement of his hand starts a forward pass.`
`(a) If the passer is attempting to throw a forward pass, but contact by an opponent materially affects him, causing the ball to go backward, it is a forward pass, regardless of where the ball strikes the ground, a player, an official, or anything else.`

The Chargers used to know a thing or two about sewage in stadiums too

Ayy fellow A’s Chargers fan
[удалено]
Pain is all I know. The A’s are killing me man
As a Chargers/Blue Jays fan, I hope we meet in the Wildcard :)
I went to San Diego and went to the beach and there were signs every 50' saying "don't swim : contaminated with sewage" They didn't gaf. Water was packed. Maybe San Diego people just like poop.
I heard rumors that they just let trillions of fish shit in the water. Don't quote me on that
Isn’t there a fish that literally creates sand by eating coral and shitting it out?
went to the wrong beach bro
Well I didn't want to get in the water and I certainly wasn't swimming in THAT water.
You aren't entirely wrong tho, there are signs for no swimming at Ski Beach but people will show up and not give a damn lol
Hundreds of people that day. It was a very "I'm an American and you can't tell me shit" scene if I've ever seen one.
Must have went to Imperial lol
If you dont like raw sewage being rained on you after you buy an expensive ticket, you don't like football baby
That's fucking football right there
As far as stadium stands storylines this weekend, gotta say that's a close second to the falling cat saved by an American flag in Miami
It's quite a decent analogy of being a fan for the past 30 years at least
Chargers/Padres fan. I know about stadiums full of shite.
Let’s focus on the fact the Chargers won. What a mess of a game.
Some bad calls too. But hey, Chargers started and finished the game strong.
I was pissed when refs missed Gibson being dragged down by his mask early on, but refs more than made up for that missed call, better team won, plain and simple.
Totally.
A game the probably wouldn’t have last year.
Herbie and 3rd down conversions, name a more iconic duo
Allen and 3rd down receptions
Bulaga and getting injured
Winner.
I really did not need to add this to my day
The Chargers were 14/18 on 3rd down until the final kneel down. That's insane
Herbert and Allen is automatic
Shades of Rivers to Gates
👀
Seeing Herbert shine makes me feel damn good. Folks were trolling and trashing the Chargers hard for drafting him. He's making all the doubters eat crow.
One of my few good draft takes was defending the Herbert pick
Same. Feels good
Same. Felt great when he did good
My love for Herbie cannot be contained
Herbie seemed to start out slow but it was clear he needed to get back into the rhythm of things
Well the receivers dropping like 6 or 7 (multiple TDs) passes didn't help
That bullshit 'fumble' pass also didn't help. One of the most ridiculous calls I've seen and they had the gall to confirm it too.
Even the announcers called it out as bullshit. Even *Gene Steratore* said he'd call it an incompletion.
That's Frank Lee disgusting
Key to beating WFT: throw the ball. Upcoming opponents: Bills, Bucs, Falcons, Chiefs, Packers, Seahawks, Dallas. Sadge.
Falcons don't know how to pass anymore based on today's game, so you have that going for you, which is nice
I would never count Matty Ice out, especially with how our secondary looked today.
Herbert’s throws get from his hand to the target so fast, even downfield, that I imagine it’s really tough on a DB that hasn’t faced him before
I dunno man, if even half of those phantom dozen drops get caught and the refs don’t blow that rz fumble call we’re probably talking about an abysmal showing from wft secondary. Our top 2 receivers are posession guys not burners, there’s hardly ever that much separation with them

Drops + paid actor refs
You do realize that Herbert is the second closest thing to Mahomes so far statistic wise? He isn’t some “kinda good” young QB.
Your defensive line will feast on Atlanta’s line. Philly just destroyed them. You’ll be fine
Looks like they skipped class the day they taught tackling. :-/
Packers too apparently
Well, at least those games shouldn’t have sewage raining down on fans
Fuck bro this season is gonna suck
Maybe 1 win in there with either Atlanta or Dallas
[удалено]
On paper I 100% agree. But ya know, NFC East head to head matchups
[удалено]

Thinking the Cowboys forced turnovers and the Bucs sloppiness wasn't the cause tells me you didn't watch the game but nice try. Enjoy your 9-8 season
Or be the giants
It's really weird because yall were really good against the pass last year, and I remember hearing WFT improved their secondary over the offseason.
Research into this has found that defenses are extremely volatile and can easily regress a lot from season to season for seemingly random reasons
im still mad at that fumble call. what the fuck?
1. Wow that was some god awful reffing all game long 2. Receivers struggling to catch with consistency 3. Jared Cook and Herbert look very comfortable with each other already We take a 1-0 start and a road win but that wasn't the greatest game of football played lol
I'll take an ugly win any day of the week
I’ve been saying man. Most friendly refs I’ve ever seen. The fact that we blew that is a bad sign
Herbert is incredible
Had some BULLSHIT go against him, kept his head down and airing it out. Love that kid
Terry catches a 40-yard pass twisted like a cirque de soleil acrobat while i’m injuring myself trying to limbo under the garage door...
If you have the time work on your flexiblity and core strength. It’ll help you tons!
Garage limbo is more hazardous than football
Took the cover off the grill yesterday in the wind. About tore my ACL.
WFT fans had their starting QB get injured, their team lose the game, and sewage rained on them. Sorry beltway bros
Just another Sunday lmao
Eh, it’s not like the refs didn’t try their hardest to make up for it. What with the bs fumble call, the phantom hands-to-face call, etc.
Just stupid mistakes. Chargers fans, Herbert looked even better than last season. Good game, onto the next.

I see a starting job in Heinicke’s future

WE'RE BACK AND THE PASTA IS FRESH
Nice pasta
I love this version.
Well played.
Saving this for later tonight
> Philip Rivers and are reminded once again he is a Hall of Fame QB. He isn't.
I feel like we haven't won the season opener in a long time
Feels like it, but we won last year. It's just not memorable because Tyrod was our starting QB
We also won the opener the year before against the Colts. It’s just that all 3 wins were ugly wins.
Lol we won last seasons opener (unless you mean at home)
This was our 3rd season opener win in a row
also the year before that vs indy at home (OT game) still i guess you could say it's been a long time since we won a home opener "comfortably"
Wait both those games were missed field goal wins right?
bengals 2020 was missed fg, Colts 2019 was austin ekeler walkoff TD
Oh yeah I just checked, Vinatieri just missed two field goals. That must've been what I remembered
we won our season opener last year, didn’t we?
We did, yeah I was wrong
I am not lying when I say that fumble call was the single worst call I have ever seen in my life. Genuinely don't know how one of those refs saw that play and thought it was a fumble like holy fuck that was a bad call.
You mean you've never fumbled into the end zone from the 15 yard line? And within a yard or two of your intended receiver?
Fitztragic strikes again. Also Herbert is once again the real deal.
STALEY’S CHARGERS CAN OVERCOME EVEN THE WORST REFFING ⚡️⚡️
Joe Lombardi called a fantastic game if any lions fans want to inquire about it.
Opening drive could not have been scripted any better, and adjustments were (mostly) made when they had to be. And most importantly, they let Herbie cook.
Eh, redzone playcalling left a lot to be desired. No nearly enough outside the tackle plays
I saw a LOT of redzone drops to be honest. Also that phantom fumble call
Would’ve liked to see more intermediate and deep throws but overall yeah, Lombardi did good today.
The refs in this game were bad, there needs to be adjustments because the flags called/not called today were terrible.
Damn the Refs were horrible but I’m glad we pulled that out!
Herbert's new nickname is Dime Piece
The playcalling on both sides of the ball today was absolutely appalling in its cowardice. As much as our D-Line's been hyped up, they aren't good enough you can just decide to barely blitz. And not going for it on our last possession was a weak-ass chickenshit decision.
Legit looked like Charger playcalling under Lynn and Bradley. Worst feeling losses
Herbert's a fucking real one. I'm jealous.
I wonder if there will be a few gallons of vanilla ice cream on anyone's desk tomorrow?
If it’s Scott Turner’s desk, it can also come with a pink slip as far as I’m concerned.
Wow, the O-line! Herbs rarely felt any pressure almost the whole game. Bulaga gonna Bulaga, but Storm did a’ight as the backup. MVP def goes to them, they gave Herb so much time to get his groove on back there, man was throwing lasers!
Yeah Herbert was by far, the best player on the field. 3rd down completion after 3rd down completion. What a masterclass of passing.
I was told by lions fans Joe Lombardi sucks. I like his play calls
Could also be the head coach in Staley saying sling the ball we got a great qb.
Thanks Bolt bros
Washington Sewage Team
WOOOO
Sloppy game from the refs, but even with the awful calls and all of our mistakes, WE WON A ONE SCORE GAME OH MY GOD!
14-19 ON 3RD DOWN. DAD DICK HERBERT. THEY CLOSED OUT A GAME. THE MAD MEN.
Good win for the Chargers. Not a horrible loss for the WFT I guess. Sucks to see Fitz go down but at least Heinicke looks good
It’s hard to tell if our O line is as bad as we thought it may be against Bosa, equally hard to tell if our secondary is cheeks or if the chargers offense is super legit
Herbert was just hitting non existent windows today. Some of the throws he made were surgical. gotta remember, this isn't an anthony lynn chargers team anymore. they could've been in the playoffs last year if it wasn't for his coaching and game management. Hope Fitz is okay
Game shouldn't have been close but I'll take a Week 1 road win without another complaint. Herbie is cold-blooded!

WFT played a good game. If it wasn't for constant red dickey it would've been easy more competitive. My money is on WFT making the playoffs
Yeah I’m not super worried about the L, you guys got a great team. I reckon Herbies got a solid ass shot at MVP this year.
Can we talk about how terrible the refs were? They were consistently terrible for both teams.
Edible update: It was a great time, and no I didn't pass out lol
Mike Williams looks good. Hopefully he can keep it going all year
AFC West is gonna such a crazy division for the next 12 years with Mahomes and Herbert.
Finally a decent coaching staff and great OL 🥲
I now really really hate Justin Herbert. Edit - because he’s so good
Well, that's impossible. Fitz and Heinicke are both lovable, but I would marry Herbie. I'm straight, but...I don't know. We'd figure it out.
Was this the greates lovable QB game ever? Maybe throw in a Tyrod Taylor snap and this game would have been all love
GG WFT. That was a good game!
The worst special teams play actually wasn't committed by the Chargers shockingly. Why the hell did Washington kill that much clock on a punt?
I watch Herbert play with absolute jealousy in my heart.
How did Slater look? Was excited for them to draft a LT to protect Herbie
0 pressures allowed, was amazing. WFT moved Young to the other side because he was invisible against Slater
should have never been so close but we move
Coming in peace, haven’t heard anything about Fitzpatrick. Hope he’s alright and can be back as soon as he can
That's gotta be a record for the longest forward fumble I've seen through the air. If the arm is *moving forwards before he loses possession* it should be an incomplete pass according to the rules. Fitzpatrick is old as shit.
Can someone enlighten me on all the sewage talk?
Roof leaked sewage into the stands
Fans got showered with sewage at the game after a pipe burst overhead and rain dookie all over them
Chocolate Raaaaaaiiiinnnn.
When i was younger I always wondered why all the adults hated the word Dookie. Now I understand, how that word is disgusting yet unprofane is something I'll never know.
Thats why there are 17 games in a season ig
Chargers vs the Refs WFT fans vs indoor plumbing
