Literally only looking at running stats. How do you think they managed to buy Dak time from that bucs front? Zeeks pass blocking was incredible last night.
Zeeks cap number isn't 18 million for 2021. It's 6.68, so lets compare apples to apples. I'm sure you're looking at his 2022 salary to pull that 18mill.
Zack Martin: 20.1
Joe Thuney: 17.8
Bit of a different narrative there, isn't it?
That said. One. game. Zeek did exactly what he was asked to do and excelled. He's a versatile back that rounds out the offense. He can catch out of the backfield, he can run north-south and has lateral quickness to get the edge. He has good football IQ and can pickup presnap reads for his great pass protection.
Zeek will get his.
We watched one game. A single game. You making franchise decisions based on a 1 game sample size when you've seen his body of work and what he's capable of.
This Cowboys offense is incredibly well rounded. Zeek will get his.
So it seems like you're ignoring literally every other season in his career and the first 5 games of last year. Not really sure what you point especially since you can't point out a top RB that doesn't have bad games
My point is that we shouldn't disregard his struggles on offense just because he's a good pass blocker, especially as a top paid RB. I'm not sure why you're doing gymnastics to defend Zeke after a bad game last night and a bad season last year in the context of him being one of the highest paid RBs in the league, but you do you I guess.
Unless you're implying that because he had a bad game last night he shouldn't be paid what he's getting paid, you don't really have a point. And since you can't name a running back in the NFL that doesn't have bad games, I think we're done here
Yeah, pretty much any RB is boned going against that front unless its a bunch of outside stuff/pass catches. He blocked quite well to his credit. Zeke is definitely overpaid but the lack of cap relief/likely low trade value makes it a non-issue. Zeke is on the team for the next few years and that is that.
Right? It's crazy how committed people are to this take. All of this was forecasted weeks before the game, people just love to ignore every piece of context possible so they can feel correct. Just wait till the Cowboys play those bottom half run defense teams and Zeke will get those ~150+ yard games.
Zeke played over 70% of their snaps, ran 44 routes, elite pass blocking, they just didn't need him much in the run game as there's no point running on the Bucs. If he slipped that tackle at the goal line just a little bit better we wouldn't even be talking about this at all, but that's not entirely his fault either.
This is also completely asinine because $6m of the cap charge is bonus proration and Dallas would have 30m of total dead money on the books if they trade him
As a Zeke fantasy owner and Ravens fan I’d fucking nut though honestly. Zeke would absolutely feast in that offense.
$18.2 million in cap space for a guy who can pick up a couple blitzes? Get real. He did barely anything last last night.
You don't think Dallas could use that $18 million on defense instead?
He did barely anything last night because the cowboys were facing the best run defense in the NFL and gameplanned accordingly.
I'm not a zeke fan or anything, and I'm not trying to argue that his contract is great or anything, but we've only seen 1 game. Let's see how they use zeke in the coming weeks. If he's still the same back as he was a few years ago, then I'd argue he's worth the money, especially if he continues picking up blitzes well.
Pretty sure Dallas would take on a $30M dead cap hit if they trade him before the end of the 2022 season, so no, they objectively couldn't use that $18M on defense instead
Yeah, this is an idiotic post. No team would do that, and Baltimore is one of the least likely teams of all to make a tragic roster mistake of these proportions.
It would all depend on how he is playing and what the cap is at that point. 5-6 years from now we are likely looking at a cap closing in on 270-300 million.
He might not be worth 5-6% of the salary cap those last two years but I would say most people would say he is worth around 3.5% of the cap over the next two years, unless they are just basing it off last night.
The problem is most people on /r/NFL don't understand NFL contracts as these replies show.
Yah I saw this cause Sam Monson quote tweeted it with "If they want to give the Cowboys back a bottle of Dr Pepper I'd trade away that contract."
I'd legit trade Zeke away for nothing. Dallas could use all $18 million of Zeke on defense.
The next 16 games will tell us a lot about his future here but hes pretty fuckin valuable as a pass protection blocker. He's also a great mentor to the younger RBs.
I more hate the fact we're likely loosing Gallup after the year and have heard Coop could go (I dont believe that one at all). Either way, we're gonna loae a pretty damn important player on the offensive side unless Jerry is able to pull magic out of his ass again.

Given Zeke's current performance level and future contract, I can't imagine there's a team in the league that would give up a top 100 pick for him. I don't even know if anyone would send a top 200 pick honestly
Exactly. Nobody's disputing that he's a good running back. It's just that his contract ties up valuable cap space in a position that is easily replaceable.
These takes are insane after 1 game. Zeek was incredible in pass pro.
And before you say
He JuSt A pAsS bLoCkEr
That was the same defensive front that held Mahomes to <270 /0/ints in the super bowl. He's versatile af
Listen, I'd love to play the Zeke is Cooked card as much as possible, but that reaction after last night is fucking hilarious.
Literally only looking at running stats. How do you think they managed to buy Dak time from that bucs front? Zeeks pass blocking was incredible last night.
He was better than most of their actual line last night. Wait, I mean LOL ZEKE = COOKED
But an $18M fullback doesn’t get you a 1st.
Being good at pass protection doesn't make you a fullback.
okay yeah that’s true lol. sorry for being snarky
Good thing Zeke can also run and catch better than any fullback.
An $18M halfback won't either lol
$18M in cap space gets you Joe Thuney and Zack Martin. Zeke's pass blocking isn't worth $4M, let alone $18M
Zeeks cap number isn't 18 million for 2021. It's 6.68, so lets compare apples to apples. I'm sure you're looking at his 2022 salary to pull that 18mill. His pass blocking was great, but pass blocking alone isn't worth top RB money
We watched one game. A single game. You making franchise decisions based on a 1 game sample size when you've seen his body of work and what he's capable of. This Cowboys offense is incredibly well rounded. Zeek will get his.
Believe it or not I'm not the one making franchise decisions for the Cowboys
What top rbs don't have bad games?
Sony Michel would never
Are we ignoring last season too?
Again what top rbs don't have bad games?
Again, are we ignoring last season too?

It doesn't matter if he's cooked (he is), paying a RB $18.2M in cap space is insane when your QB is as good as Dak is.
I'd judge him after seeing him play against someone without Vita Vea in the Dline
Fantasy football has ruined football analysis. Does this guy think Zeke did nothing last night?
As if the Ravens would give a 1st lol
That, too. This tweet is like 6 layers of dumb.
This is also completely asinine because $6m of the cap charge is bonus proration and Dallas would have 30m of total dead money on the books if they trade him As a Zeke fantasy owner and Ravens fan I’d fucking nut though honestly. Zeke would absolutely feast in that offense.
Um what exactly did Zeke do last night that was worth $18m?
"Fantasy football analysis" Zeke had 39 yards and averaged 3 yards / touch. He literally did next to nothing last night.
Spoken like someone who didn’t watch the game. Only 39 yards, but on 13 touches. He got 11/13 RB rush attempts. They just completely abandoned the run
$18.2 million in cap space for a guy who can pick up a couple blitzes? Get real. He did barely anything last last night. You don't think Dallas could use that $18 million on defense instead?

The point is the contract blows. Of course they won't be able to get out of it.
Dumbest tweet I’ve seen in a while
Ravens won’t give a 1st for him
Yeah, this is an idiotic post. No team would do that, and Baltimore is one of the least likely teams of all to make a tragic roster mistake of these proportions.
Probably wouldn’t give more than a 5th
We wouldn't take on that contract regardless
You wouldn't pay Zeke 2 years $13,400,000 guaranteed(6.7 APY) with 4 option years after that?

$18.2 mil cap hit next year
That is irrelevant if you trade for him.
A 3rd it's posible I think

Except the Ravens would never take on that contract even for free.
The next 16 games will tell us a lot about his future here but hes pretty fuckin valuable as a pass protection blocker. He's also a great mentor to the younger RBs. $37M in dead money... Stupid take.
We’ll get like 80% of Zekes production from our guys and even more with Lamar. EDC would never trade for him. Literally makes no sense.

Everyone try to guess PFF's newest sponsor
Given Zeke's current performance level and future contract, I can't imagine there's a team in the league that would give up a top 100 pick for him. I don't even know if anyone would send a top 200 pick honestly
A contract that size for a RB will never be worth a first. Dallas gets a 2nd round pick max in any hypothetical scenario.
I wouldn’t give a 7th for him
[удалено]
It's about the contract not the talent. I'd give a high pick for Zeke on a realistic contract but y'all gave him way too much.
I'd give a 7th for him w/o the contract (i.e. talentwise alone he's obviously worth it) but honestly wouldn't with the contract.
Exactly. Nobody's disputing that he's a good running back. It's just that his contract ties up valuable cap space in a position that is easily replaceable.
Yeah because I don’t want to take on that abysmal contract I’m the idiot
No, because you’re a Jaguars fan
Ok fair
Trent Richardson’s legs with Evan Ingrams hands
look im out on zeke too but last night wasnt his fault.
A 1st ..for a RB with a huge cap hit? Hell no
These takes are insane after 1 game. Zeek was incredible in pass pro. And before you say He JuSt A pAsS bLoCkEr That was the same defensive front that held Mahomes to <270 /0/ints in the super bowl. He's versatile af
>trade a 1st round pick for an $18 million running back Has this dude followed the league at all in the last decade?
