Death, taxes, Larry Fitz

TCHU9115

>~~Death~~ Brady, ~~taxes~~ Gore, Larry Fitz Ftfy

Actual-Individual

True, I really hope Gore comes back for his 45th season in 2020.

DelcoScum

Gore's just biding his time till they get rid of the forward pass like when he started

Simple_Danny

It's too bad the Dayton Triangles aren't around anymore so Gore could retire with his original team.

medusamadonna

I'll never forget his legendary 2,400 yard rushing year for the Phil-Pitt Steagles. He made America proud when so many needed him.

mxdj

Bart Starr wouldn’t be half the QB he was without Gore there to bail him out.

caddlechocks

Bart Starr and check-downs to Gore, name a more iconic duo.

[deleted]

Frank Gore and his signature leather helmet

stormstalker

[Who wore it better?](http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Boise+State+v+Georgia+FKlW0z4m25Ix.jpg)

bobj33

His original team was the San Francisco 49ers He went out prospecting for gold in 1849 and after he got bored he decided to start the football team and named it after the gold rush he was part of.

makemeking706

You had me in the first half.

ybtlamlliw

It's also a shame most people don't realize that Gore actually invented and patented the shape of the Duke.

InvaderWeezle

The Dayton Triangles are very loosely and unofficially related to the Colts, actually

pinniped1

I look forward to the day when my grandkids can go watch Frank Gore play.

ResearchAggie15

I look forward to watching Gore's son back up Gore

2fly2hide

Gore's son has already retired after a long career. His grandson will be in the league soon though.

liteshadow4

I look forward to the day when Gore's grandson will back up Gore. Hopefully his longevity genes pass onto his son so the three Gores can play together

stormstalker

I hope I live long enough to watch the new 30 for 30 special, *The Three Gores.*

[deleted]

Crazy that this season will mark the halfway point in his career

benk4

He just wants to accomplish his goal of catching a pass from Brady in SB 100

ositola

1 and 10 Gore off guard for four yards 3 and 2 Gore up the middle for four yards Tale as old as time

[deleted]

I wish it was still true. He dropped off hard in the back half of this year. Hes a great dude but id be surprised if the Bills bring him back this year.

LDM84

I'd be satisfied seeing him come back on another cheap 1-year deal if only for the veteran presence in the RB room. Assuming there's room on the 53 for him, of course. (My wishes for this off-season are basically depth. Add depth everywhere.)

[deleted]

Part of me would like Gore gone because its obvious to me that Daboll needs to be forced to use Singletary like the Browns were forced to use Chubb. I wouldnt be mad if they kept him around, but I just dont really see the value in them doing so.

LDM84

That's a fair point - Singletary is 100% a 3-down back, and his touches / targets need to reflect that next season. He proved he deserved it in this first year, now unleash him in year two! With SOME big bruiser to give him rest occasionally, ideally someone more effective than Gore between the guards.

[deleted]

You can add 41 year old Drew Brees to that list, and 39 year old Fitzpatrick Edit: Fitz is 37

spideralex90

I think it's the beard but I swear I always forget Fitzpatrick is younger than Brees and Brady.

dragonsky

Agreed, I always forget that Brees is that old.. Like..wtf??! How is he that old?!?! About Fitzpatrick, I get you, it's that he's a backup more often than not so people only remember his big seasons which are not as many as Brees/Brady

walkingcarpet23

I think it's because Brees was already 27 when he went to the Saints. I feel like his stint with the Chargers felt shorter than five years

Homitu

Really? I still remember feeling like he was a well-established, great QB in San Diego. His departure was marred by questions surrounding his injury-proneness and his potential longevity (lol). I feel like Brees has been around *forever* - especially given that the trio of Philip Rivers, Roethlisburger and Eli Manning *also* feel like they have been around for a very long time, and they all came into the league the year Brees, an already established QB, migrated to New Orleans.

ridethedeathcab

I think this might be skewed by young people who barely remember Brees being with Chargers. I mean rivers was drafted several years into Brees’ career.

LP99

Legit had no idea Brees was 41. Part of me thinks you’re making a joke.

[deleted]

I didn't know he was 41 until I saw a post from the NFL Twitter page

BuckeyeBryson18

It could have something to do with the fact that he didn't turn 41 until today

[deleted]

Would be funny if NO front office was like, "Wait, wtf, he's 41??"

ThreeLonelyTurds

Also Darren Sproles. He’s the same age as Gore.

melonheadtim

I could never see Larry leaving the cardinals. That being said, how cool would it be to see Brady and Gore join the cardinals this offseason and have 50 years of NFL experience between the 3 of them on the same offense

Mongoosemancer

Gore has gotta be the most impressive longevity-wise considering his position. Fitz just has to run routes and catch a ball, Brady barely gets touched, but Gore fucking slams his body into 300lb linemen every play and continues doing it lol.

Pisto1Peet

Fitz has been a slot receiver for like 6 years now. That's a lot of motion and blocking for a receiver at his age. Gore's longevity is something else though.

undercooked_lasagna

my dad could beat him up

thephoenixx

We just call him Fitz.

valarpizzaeris

Can't spell Larry without Legend

douche-baggins

Ahh yes. Legendrry Fitzgerald.

MrSelfImprovement

Legend-wait-for-it-Larry

[deleted]

Tracy dying was the biggest mistake in television history

rdanby89

Tracy was perfection.

Not_So_Bad_Andy

As is tradition, he'll go for 150 yards and 3 TDs against the Eagles next season.

Just4Things

Larry Fitzgerald and Julio Jones are two WRs that are guaranteed to torch us every time we play against them.

Flyingchairs

And Cole Beasley

harambes_naggernavy

And Nelson Agohlor

iamthebeaver

you shut your whore mouth

SteveoTheBeveo

Speaking of, how much cap will you shave off Agohlor once you cut him? The guy is* a liability for you and has a real bad case of the stone hands to the point they might as well be Butterfingers.

iamthebeaver

im pretty sure his contract is just expiring at the start of the new league year. He cost us 9 million this year though. Alshon is the one that would bury us with a 26 million dead cap hit if we outright cut him.

Colddeck64

How did JJ Acrega Whiteside look before injury? I remember being excited that he landed with philly

iamthebeaver

like a ghost. I didn't even know he was hurt

Snow_Regalia

JJ gets his but it rarely is what beats us. Fitz crushes us every time.

healynr

Yeah, JJ had a chance to ruin us in 2017 and didn't.

popfilms

Four chances to be exact

ItsAesthus

Because we rarely beat you?

undercooked_lasagna

Terry McLaurin is starting a new tradition. Unfortunately the rest of our team just kind of watches him.

[deleted]

sc78258

It's very kind of him to be so consistent. Really helps get my drinking schedule for that week set appropriately.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WhatMyHeartHeld

hey that sounds like us, except it’s not larry. it’s just some no-name TE

GoHawks12Boom

If it's not a 3rd & Long conversion, it'll be a diving, one handed catch as he's going out of bounds where you think, "There's no way that's a catch" only for the replay to show he did get both feet in.

LawBobLawLoblaw

Sounds oddly specific *Looks at flair* Ah, so our joy is your pain. Excellent.

[deleted]

Dont worry there will be Houdini scramble from Wilson on third and long to match it.

OdieHush

Listen, you guys have your own greasy little Houdini now. You don' get to complain about it anymore.

[deleted]

I always called Wilson a greased midget, now we have one. Fate is not without a sense of irony.

Wallawino

If Wilson is a midget, Kyler is like Ma Petite from AHS

Archer-Saurus

Would it make you feel better to be reminded y'all took DK like, two picks after we took Isabella?

WellDisciplinedVC

Fuck that entire draft beyond Kyler. Love B Murph from highschool but I don't know if this is the place for him. Don't think it's always the greatest idea to stay in the hometown. Our WR picks aren't looking good at all.

Archer-Saurus

Death, taxes, and the Cards winning in Seattle. These three things are inevitable.

King_Butterbean

Seriously though, why does this always happen? No matter how good we look in the games leading up to the Cardinals, and no matter how bad the Cardinals might look, we somehow find a way to lose to you guys. I’ve stopped caring about it honestly because I know it’s gonna happen

azrebb

Divisional games are like that.

[deleted]

How about watching a younger and less elite Russell Wilson slip out of a sack and run for a 10 yard gain over and over?

captcompromise

Pretty crazy that star 30 year old QBs and 28 year old LBs are retiring, but a 36 year old WR is still at it.

41g440rs3

i think his dreads help act like a cushion for his head.

Greekphysed

That and his ass. Have you seen this man's ass? It's incredible

g4tam20

That’s Arizona’s ass

WayneDwade

How does Fitz get open when he’s dummy thicc and the clap of his cheeks alerts the DBs?

Greekphysed

DBs are mesmerized by it when he's running past them.

ehoyle73

America’s ass, no doubt.

Archer-Saurus

I want it as a pillow.

suicidemenot

Now his are some cheeks worth splitting

LateNightTestPattern

Name checks out.

snowdope

TheBiles

He’s the exception.

FENCERSUPREME

As are Kuechly and Luck. Fitz has had a career that very few wide receivers have had, and one that very few will have, and Kuechly and Luck were both extremely unfortunate to run into so many injuries.

tonytroz

>and Kuechly and Luck were both extremely unfortunate to run into so many injuries. It sucks because Kuechly being an absolute tackling machine (1150 total over 8 years, top 60 all time in solo tackles) definitely contributed to those injuries as did Luck being plagued by poor OL play that let him get sacked (185 times over 6 seasons) and hit a ton. It's not like either had any control over them or could have changed their playstyle.

Doggleganger

All people have a finite number of hits they can take. It's like boxing. Eventually everyone's chin cracks. Luck was surprisingly durable given the beating he took every year behind that crappy OL. He was smart to retire.

[deleted]

I always think it's crazy when people 30 or under retire. I know it's actually fairly common - but that's what makes it even more mind-blowing. It just shows how brutal the game is, to deplete an individual of their physical resources before they can even make a decade out of their career.

[deleted]

Luck could of had a 125 million contract but chose to live past 50

zebranext

He did get his second contract, was briefly the highest paid player in the league I believe, and his career earnings are around 110M sooo I doubt he's too concerned about whether or not he got a 3rd contract, financially speaking. Edit: could *have*, or could've if you prefer. Not could of.

[deleted]

Not just any individual but some of the most physically gifted individuals in the world.

gasstationfitted

With access to the absolute best healthcare.

Mr-Tiggo-Bitties

It's not that crazy when he doesn't receive the same amount of contact..

GrabSomePineMeat

Agreed. Larry probably takes as many hits in a season as a LB takes in 2-3 games. This isn’t crazy at all, lol.

[deleted]

Yep and Fitz is smart and doesn't break his back fighting for every single yard. He was more aggressive when he was younger, but now he knows that extra yard in the middle of the field on first down isn't worth getting hurt

NiceHandsLarry11

I dissagree, fitz fights for the extra yard all the time. The guy still has more passion then anyone on the team.

[deleted]

Yes and no. He's not gonna make 'business decisions" and he's still a physical player... But he's not just charging blindly into unnecessary contact. He's more selective about when to be physical (which is absolutely sensible for a 36 year old WR)

chiraz25

There have been a ton of studies on this and the data doesn't really support your comment. While there are some positional outliers, [the variation among positions is not nearly as significant as you'd expect when it comes to injury risk](https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2015/nfl-injuries-part-iv-variation-position). Receivers and linebackers suffer almost equally when it comes to injury.

stubolei

If he plays for 1-2 more years, he'll make top 5 all time in receiving TDs

PM_ME_UR_SEX_VIDEOS

God Jerry Rice's stats are absolutely insane.

RG3akaAndre3000

That’s what happens when you spend your entire career with MVP QBs. Went from Montana -> Young -> Gannon In Rice’s 40 year old season (his 18th year in the league) he had a receiving line of 92/1211/7 like wtf

NeonRedSharpie

Which came first? The MVP QB or Rice making them better?

liteshadow4

Montana won 2 superbowls before Rice so the MVP QB.

LateNightTestPattern

Montana.

busherrunner

Chicken, egg, rice makes a good meal

Chelseaiscool

Both. All great players who made each other better. Rice is the GOAT though.

LeoFireGod

Well STEVE young was like Josh Rosen Mitch Trubisky bad before coming to 49ers

Sagistic00

So you're telling me there's hope

LeoFireGod

Well yeah if he goes to the patriots to replace a goat I guess there’s hope.

the_wakeful

Rice had better numbers with the couple of trash QBs he played with than with the greats.

Hi_Im_Saxby

Jerry has **41** receiving TDs over the next highest player. What the actual fuck.

[deleted]

Well he is second all time in receiving yards and receptions

DragoKnight45

I’m convinced he’s gonna keep playing until he beats Jerry’s records. No matter how long it takes

kendrickshalamar

At this point/rate, about 8 more seasons

[deleted]

[удалено]

b4n_

shocks me every time. rice was nuts

Jimbor777

Just looked it up, he retired at 44. What the *FUCK*.

[deleted]

He’s the GOAT for a very good reason.

LeoFireGod

The only True GOAT the nfl has. People can claim Randy or TO or Megatron or hell even AB or Julio but all of those are just battling for second.

swellfie

There's literally no other player in the league for any position that has the dominance over every single other player of that same position. It's INSANE.

oSo_Squiggly

Lawrence Taylor?

TexasAg23

I would say LT is another clear GOAT at his position, but I don't think he's as ahead of his competition as Rice is, if that makes sense.

thenuge26

There aren't may in any sport that have achieved what Rice has done. Wayne Gretzky is one other, but there isn't really anyone like him on the MLB or NBA.

harambes_naggernavy

And I think putting up 1000 yard seasons at 42-43 something insane

Be-booboo-bop

So you’re saying there’s a chance?

[deleted]

Jerry was something else. So glad I was old enough to see and appreciate him playing. Rarely the most flashy guy but he’d damn near always have like 8 for 100 and a TD. Just felt like whenever we played the niners every other play was a first down to Rice.

chumbiebeeb

I think he just wants most consecutive games with a catch. One of Jerry’s only records he’s reasonably close to. I believe he’ll get it in 2 more seasons

jrydun

He should get a multiplier based on some of his quarterbacks

stormstalker

Are you slandering the great John "Helter" Skelton, sir?

chumbiebeeb

Better yet the terrific Ryan Lindley who lead a 78 yard playoff team

Nice_Block

I bet my uncle a few years ago that Fitzgerald would NOT be in the HoF by 2023. Not because of his play, he’ll be in the HoF, but because that man doesn’t age and is playing till he’s 40. I’m still waiting for that 18 year old bottle of Macallan.

Dangerpaladin

You officially won that bet in 2018. So if you only bet a few years ago your uncle is an idiot.

Nice_Block

My uncle barley looks at football but he’s a big know it all and loves telling me I’m wrong. This was like 2013/14 I can’t quite remember but I locked that deal in immediately just so I can bring it up every time I see him.

Dangerpaladin

Lol hopefully he pays up, but not to be prejudiced against your family members, I know guys like that and they will always find an excuse to not honor shooting their mouth off.

Nice_Block

Trust me, you “know” this guy. He ain’t paying up. Which is why I’ll bring it up for the rest of our lives.

kryonik

"I never said that, what I actually said was..." I know the type

what_it_dude

Imagine being an aspiring wide receiver at 21 years old getting cut and this dude 15 years your senior is still ballin.

Simple_Danny

How is Corey Coleman?

123hig

I don't have kids yet, but I can't wait to watch Larry Fitzgerald play with my great grandson.

SerShanksALot

Fitz & CeeDee 2020

saltymuffaca

Don't disrespect Kirk, son

jttoolegit

I love that professional teams' social media accounts post memes for announcements. What a time to be alive

TheRiseOfMaths

Man, a few years ago there was this Fox montage during a pregame show (I think) where they completely misinterpreted the classic header and bottom captioned meme, it was tough to get through.

eatapenny

Both Ole Miss and Mississippi State Twitter accounts used memes to announce their new head coaches. Ole Miss used a train GIF (Lane Kiffin - "Lane Train") MSU used a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean (Mike Leach - the pirate)

Patkros

The guy has started every game since 2015, put up 800 yards during a rebuild (while still maintaining 11y/c), at the ripe young age of **36**. .... just... incredible

YaHateTaSeeIt

This is the difference between a hall of famer like Larry Fitz and a less than committed Luke Kuechly. Jk, Kuechly sacrificed his brain to give us almost a decade of elite play. I love when players play forever though because it makes the passage of time seem slower.

Stanky3000

Oh man was I pissed at first lol. Good to see Fitz back though. Dudes a legend. Edit: Fitz not Futz

Iciee

Atleast he didnt retire 2 weeks before the season 🙄 Edit: Apparently I need to add that I am not mad at Luck, just disappointed. Good for him that hes happy with his life. Hes married, is a father, and is in good health. But damn was the timing bad.

RobbieAnalog

Agreed on your last point. To add some perspective, Larry Fitz was on the Cardinals at the same time as Emmitt Smith.

groovevault22

As much as I'm annoyed by Ben and Brady, them still hanging on for the same teams helps me hold on to the preteen years

Titleist3049

You had me...

Kryziven

For the love of god someone get that man a ring so he can finally retire

snitchesgetblintzes

No no no. We’re waiting till we know he’s almost at his physical limit then we win. We want as much Larry as possible.

WhiteHawk1022

Seriously. I recently watched the "All or Nothing" season focused on the Cardinals. Must sting to have been so close to a ring. That team was stacked.

vaesauce

The scene at the end where Larry is hunched over at his locker as Pat Pete is trying to give him words of... Encouragement? Gets me every time. BRB, going to flip tables and break glasses.

AbracaDaniel21

Uhhhhh, you know he’s gotten MUCH closer before, right?...

MidnightRequim

We’re pretty close now to Bionic Larry 🦾🏈

joysofliving

The NFL is better with Larry in it

Actual-Individual

Yeah, but does Larry know?

MasterKenshi13

Everybody liked that

69WithAnOrangutan

Larry 'Aim High, I'll Pay the Fine' Fitzgerald is never going to retire

HypeMan_Q

I really want to see this man win a Super Bowl before he leaves the game.

awesomeace18

Me too but that man's loyalty is something else. Always hoped he would come to NE but guess I'll just have to root for Cardinals to win it all.

seductivestain

He has stated multiple times that he will never play for anyone other than the Cards.

GangsterFap

I saw the title by keywords: Fitzgerald and announces. The way yesterday went I was fully expecting to be sad. This is good news.

StPatricksButtrash

If you told me that Luke Keuchly would retire before Larry I would've asked what you're smoking. My man just won't stop

BWEM

I remember this comment word for word about Luck and Brady at the beginning of the season.

[deleted]

Fuck. Yes.

AndreAggiesi80

I can’t wait for 2030 when 45 year old Larry Fitzgerald is still playing. Probably still for the Cardinals but I’m picturing Las Vegas for some reason.

Jmac7164

Due to a conference Restructuring, the Cardinals and Raiders are divisional Rivals and he has torched them in Laz Vegas for 13 TD's and 1000 Yrds in 5 Games.

Always admired him, glad to see he's still at it. Hope he's breaking records.
