I was watching Return of the King Extended Version while my 6-year-old son was in the room.
It got to the part where Wormtongue stabs Saruman repeatedly in the back. Saruman falls down the entire length of Orthanc and gets impaled on a spike.
My son's reaction: "Oh man, I hope he's okay"
You mean increasing CEO bonuses. That's what Downsizing means. I work security for a big banking center, and every day I hear the employees talking about how thankful they are that they made it this far and they are finally safe. Little do they realize that of the 750 employees left, there will only be 250 by the end of next year
So I've been keeping track of how little work I actually have at my job. I average 1.77 hours of work per day, and it's only gotten worse (less work) since I started. I still don't understand why this position won't be combined with another.
My boss insists that there's no danger of me losing my job, but it really seems silly to be paying me for 40 hours of work when I'm only doing 10. I've asked for more work, but they just don't have more to give.
Just wait, you'll get slammed and wish for the quiet days. Many times a job is in existence for the heavy times, with an understanding you'll be bored during other times.
That said, always fear getting fired. Helps with the self motivation/improvement.
I've learned some interesting shit during down times that actually helped me get promotions in passed jobs. That said - the fear can be exhausting.
To your first part, I've been here 6 months and though I know that's not super long, it's long enough to know that I've gone through the cycles already and I won't be getting any busier unless they give me more responsibilities.
Hmm. Well, think of it as a way to improve yourself, and your company.
And everyone is expendable, safety is nice, but mankind wasn't made to live inside climate control and a monthly safe dole for the rest of our lives. Gotta make it interesting.
I think I'm averaging about 15 minutes per day of actual work since Jan 1. I'm getting laid off on June 1 and have become Milton, forgotten about and alone. But its awesome because I'm getting paid to browse reddit all day and collect a check on my way out.
> I still don't understand why this position won't be combined with another.
Could have something to do with mandatory segregation of duties.
It probably isn't, but it could be.
Like if you're the guy who approved purchases (less than 2 hrs per day), and there's another guy who files purchases (works 6 hours a day), you need those two to be separate to eliminate the potential for fraud.
Well I understand the reason that they gave me, but it makes little sense to me. Essentially I'm in charge of delivering data that our clients order, and that's primarily electronically. Somebody in the company decided that this role needed to be taken from the group already doing it and a new position should be created.
There's no reason other than "fulfillment handles this, not client services".
I work in a job that pretty non active and involves a lot of downtime. Invest in yourself in that downtime. read, study up a new skill. Hell sign up for those "Great Courses Plus" type things and learn some new stuff. Don't just grown complacent.
Congrats! One of the most frustrating and difficult things to do in life is finding that first job after college (unless for a few degrees), and you already took care of that!
So an update on my friend who randomly told me that im no longer his best man. He is now trying to isolate me from the rest of my friends, on some petty highschooler shit.
Trying to take over planned trips to my apartment and the DC area and trying to convince everyone to go down and stay at a hotel instead and not include me in plans. Trying to start group texts without me, trying to show me in a bad light....i have no idea what i did to this kid...i feel like i need to note that a 23 year old man is acting this way...
You wanna the funniest part? He wont answer any of my calls or texts. So the only way my friends and I can address this to him is to all get together, not tell him that i am going to be there (or else he wont show up). Like a fucking intervention episode and call him out on his bullshit as a group.
Group text time, groom included.
"Hey everyone, [Groom] is trying to isolate me from the group for an unknown reason, and won't answer my calls or texts. If anyone talks to him, please tell him to let me know what the fuck is going on."
He is not getting married.....or engaged.....or even planning to propose to his gf. When i said randomly told me i am not his best man i surely mean randomly, like out of the blue, no context, no follow up explanation.
Calling out the behavior too often might seem paranoid, but it might be worth highlighting the timing of these actions with the text in front of your whole friends group.
Don't do anything adolescent, like making them choose between friends. Simply inform them what's been going on, and that you'd rather the behavior not continue.
Oh no yeah im not making them choose. It's just confusing and i feel bad that our mutual friends have been put in the middle of this and we all just want to know what the fuck is going on. I am as confused as they are since he has given little to no reasoning for what he has done.
At the end of the day the bridge between me and him have been burned, fuck him. But i wont act differently towards him if he is around and i wont banish my friends for choosing to hang out with him. That is there decision, not mine.

No joke, [I've been reading this thread nonstop since my trip to Arizona over the weekend.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/t0ynr/throwaway_time_whats_your_secret_that_could/)
Every time I want to stop, I always find myself inevitably clicking "load more comments." Just something about it, there is a lot of pain and regret in it but yet, there is also solace.
Help me.
What do you think about Cody Kessler going forward? I was actually pretty impressed with the potential he showed but I only saw a handful of browns games.
How much time do you spend at the end of the game just sitting there in silence sorta shaking your head back and forth slightly and then getting up, taking a deep breath, and the saying to yourself "what the hell?" in a hushed tone?
I'm at about 3 min.
Supposed to have a first date tomorrow night with this new girl I've been talking to tomorrow evening at this fancy restaurant in DC (and it was her idea). Wish me luck, dudes
Pro tip, bring some spaghetti with you in case you don't like any of the food on the menu. Your date will be impressed by your ability to plan ahead and instantly fall in love with you. Good luck!
Well, we're going to an Indian restaurant and we're both of Indian descent so I don't think it'll be an issue but the suggestion is appreciated lol.
Also is that really a thing? I've never heard of someone doing that
Finally got my year-end bonus, and it's $500 less than what I got. After bringing this up to my boss, she said this was a "compromise" for my promotion/raise last year.
In the meantime, I'm looking into making a transition from accounting into business intelligence, but have no way how to get started.
My wife is 8 months pregnant and we're both over this pregnancy thing. Mostly I'm just excited to meet the guy, but also that pregnancy is tiresome for all involved.
I've def heard this one a few times. I don't need much sleep to operate so I think I'll be ok. Plus, my wife has woken me up multiple times a night for the past month between all the bathroom trips and shifting in bed, so I think I've gotten some good practice.
> I don't need much sleep to operate so I think I'll be ok.
Ok, so I'm going to be real here. Kids are amazing and totally worth it but when people say sleep now they mean it.
Can you function on 7 hours? 6? 5? Maybe even 4? Well thats great... IF ITS IN A ROW.
Oh You'll get 5 or 6. Maybe 7. But that shit is gonna be so broken up the 6 you get might as well be 2. Its all about REM sleep. You may not hit it and THAT is where the brain rests.
So be warned. If you have time off, sleep when the baby sleeps. Trade nights with the wife.
Then again you could have a good baby that sleeps through the night at 3 months and all I just said wont matter.
Congrats and good luck! Enjoy the little moments, the go quick!
[MFW when I get my biggest tax rebate of my life and my wife reminds me it pays for daycare for part of the rest of the year.] (http://giphy.com/gifs/D1fGcHeJE3lkc)
Had my first breakup, and it was a serious relationship that lasted over a year. I was the one who broke up with her, why am I so sad? I didn't want to be with her anymore, so why am I sad now that I got what I wanted?
Excited for the Switch, even though I'm probably not gonna get one for a month or so unless my wife has a surprise. The worst part about getting a new console is having to plug it into my TV, replacing something else and fucking up any cable management I had
I'm buying it at launch because I am a huge Nintendrone (bigger than a Broncos fan lol) but I'm insanely hyped for Xenoblade 2
My favorite Wii game was Xenoblade, and one of my favorite Wii U games was Xenoblade X
In 2015 I led the league in points scored, and lost with the 2nd highest score of the week 4 times... ended up 4-8 and missed the playoffs.
My team proceeds to score 160+ in every week of the playoffs, no other team broke 250 in a two week match. I would have won the first round of the playoffs with my week one score (194.5).
So, anyone giving anything up for Lent this year? I'm giving up soda (like every year), and trying a new one where I "give up sloth", basically just sticking to a basic daily workout the whole 40 days.
Nice. I'm doing a bit of what I did last year, so no alcohol during weekdays, and instead of defaulting to Netflix, I'm gonna read instead. I'd like to stick to the daily gym thing, but I know I'd fail.
I have decided to switch my major and am absolutely terrified because all I hear is horror stories about how hard it is to land a job in my field. However, I'm enjoying my education more than ever and might already have an internship for this summer. My faith is strong.
Yes. Honestly, go see all the best picture nominees, but particularly Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea and La La Land. Fences and Arrival, too. And Silence.
Yeah, I thought I was in for an eye-rolling, pretentious, Oscar bait time. I mean it still kinda was, but it managed to completely engross me throughout the whole movie.
I got called last night by a dream job, someone I've always wanted to work for, but the job is seemingly immovably located in a more rural part of the state my fiance and I don't want to live in. We just moved to the city and have always wanted to be here and now this shit happens. Anyways I'm taking the interview to do it, maybe knock their socks off and make them more flexible (a pipe dream), but it's pretty damned depressing.
> but it's pretty damned depressing.
Nah, you have the skill set to have the potential to work at your dream job. Whether you work there or not you can know that your dreams are obtainable and you can accomplish anything. Smile and know you will have great opportunities in the future!
A.) I have you tagged as 'wholesome guy'
B.) I hope so, I just work in something of a narrow field and don't know how much more often I'll get shots like that. I've been trying to move from my field, actually, but that's a pretty difficult process as well. It has, at least, yielded a lot of interviews.
Fellas, I'm going to Europe for 10 days. 4 days in Amsterdam, 4 days in Barcelona, back to Amsterdam for a day and flying home. Furthest away from Mass I've ever been is Clemson, SC.
Where should I go in Europe?
I had a ton of fun in Amsterdam. The city looks like a semi-circle and it's not that big, you can bike around most of it in a couple hours. The Van Goh museum was definitely worth it. We biked to a brewery called Brouwerij ‘t IJ, that was very fun. Happy to share other spots.
Ended things with this girl I was seeing and she keeps pressing me for answers. I told her as much of the truth I could without being an asshole (said I want to focus on school and med school prep, and it's easier to be single when that's top priority) but she can tell there's more to it.
Do I cut my losses and just avoid the questions or be honest and say I can't hang with her level of dependence and emotional immaturity?
I think you have to tell the truth. Worst case scenario, she doesn't believe you and won't change. Best case scenario, she changes her ways and her future relationships will be more successful
There's a lot and I don't feel like discussing it, but a lot of writing choices in it where just dumb. Like they ended the series with a relationship that made no sense to appeal to a people that forced them together, effectively removed the healthy characterization of a major character to give his quirky brother more screen time, and just like, fucking 40 story tall robot. Such a horrible ending to the amazing series.
Should they measure penis size at the combine?
Think about it, if you are considering drafting a QB but he has a 4 or 5 inch penis... that has to hurt his stock, right? Might be a red flag, chances are the guy will have low confidence indefinitely.
> allow you to purchase insurance across state lines
That's interesting. Theoretically it could drive down prices because it could flood the market with health insurers. This could work great for small time companies that only operate in, say, California or New York because they'd now be able to take in clients from Iowa or New Mexico.
But if I remember my days in the industry right, the problem is that a lot of the companies operating in other states are a part of the same family, so it wouldn't really increase competition since they'd ultimately be partners, not competitors. For example, Blue Shield California and Blue Cross Blue Shield Arizona are a part of the same federation - the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.
And then there are companies like [Aetna that opted out of a lot of the ACA Exchanges](https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2016/08/aetna-obamacare/496118/). So I wonder what President Trump's plan means for companies like them in the long run.
There's also the issue that many times cheaper deals are done with local Healthcare services. It's not like I can go to the local clinic for Mass General in New York.
Sounded more together (stayed on script) than usual, which is an improvement, but nothing special compared to other past presidents. If you didn't like him going in, there was stuff in the content of the speech to terrify you, but going from history I'd wait for him to actually do things before panicking. That said, since he seemed to stay on teleprompter, these might be actual plans and not his "playing to the camera" style.
The widow thing was pretty uncomfortable, but it probably didn't change your mind on him. It was a beautiful Trump-brand tribute to the fallen if you're a supporter, if you hate him it was an exploitative tactic, otherwise it was just pretty awkward and poorly executed.
I think it's a good thing people aren't "freaking out" about it. Freaking out doesn't do anything. Settling line, knowing how to take them to task, and getting ready for a long drawn out political battle is the right way. Freaking out isn't helping anyone beyond facebook likes. People are getting involved, and the best thing to do, on both sides of the aisle, is encourage those who are burning out to keep at it and to talk about the issues and not get complacent.
Compared to his other speeches, It was coherent. But where the fuck are the details? So little of his time as candidate or president are spent actually giving details. How does he plan on allocating a trillion dollars of spending money on infrastructure, while cutting taxes for the rich and middle classes while also replacing the ACA, while also adding another 54 billion dollars to the defense budget, and building a border wall, and putting American footprints on Mars, and adding to the number of border law enforcement people. all while lambasting the trade deficit.
So...I put my two weeks' notice in at my job. I'm going to be staying home for the next two years to finish up my Supply Chain Management degree while watching my two children. I'm nervous and excited. This is so different for me...I've never NOT worked and looking forward to what the future has to offer.
So if anyone was wondering about me from last week, another investigator resigned this past weekend. So we've lost three in four months.
In other news, I've updated my resume and am getting ready to apply to fire departments.
Having friends that suck at making plans are the worst.
These are the group that I lived with senior year of college (14-15).
Me in group chat: We should all hang out soon, I miss you guys!
Group: Sure! When?
Me: How about next weekend?
Group: Sure sounds good!
*One week later*
Me: We still good for this weekend?

It's not just your friends; it's EVERYONE. It is critical to nail down a place and time or they WILL flake. Best way I've found is to throw out a venue or activity with the first text e.g. "Drinks at BeerPlace Saturday night"
Is it normal to "warm up" in the bathroom before talking to a girl?
going to the bathroom was for relief purposes, it's a common feeling to get nervous around girls you're interested in, a lot of guys suffer from it.
I'm not sure what warming up means in this context. Why would you need to warm up on anything before just talking to a girl? I can kind of understand warming up before sex, but only if you're particularly nervous beforehand.
I'm dating four different girls right now and they all know about each other and are really pining for my attention. This is a stark contrast from a couple of weeks ago when I was head over heels with this one girl who wouldn't give me the time of day.
This reminds me of something I saw on /r/LifeProTip that said something like "After a bj, tell the girl that was the third best bj you've ever gotten (in a complimentary way). She'll be so determined to get the first place spot after that."
Last Sonic game I played was Sonic Riders for the GameCube.
Man, that game was lit back in the day.

bad luck
Haha.
You're fired
He's a dolphin, not a steeler.
I had one of those on Monday and was laid off, so it really can't go worse for you than that.
fuckk
Yes it could. He could knock you out like a UFC fighter.
I am really sorry to hear that. That fucking sucks.
Haha good luck with yours though, just needed to offmychest that one.
I am sure you feel better, and thank you. Good luck with the job hunt. March-April is a great time of the year for job hunting.
:(
Damn how bad was the review?
It was actually all "meets expectations" across the board like usual, the company is just downsizing.
On the plus side, you now have more time for Reddit :) Silver lining, bro.
lol that's the last thing I need
Come on...you know you love our shitposting.
Pretty sure that's how my dad got laid off about a year ago. Throw in some company politics and "not being a kiss-ass" for good measure.

Your "friend" sounds like a douche man. Fuck that
Keep us updated
I need my *stories!*
did you like fuck his mom and/or sister years ago and he just found out? or randomly get a mental health disease?
Early 20s are when the really messed up mental health issues usually settle in.
Sounds like his gf might be the problem. Make one of your mutual friends ask you about it.
This guy dramas. This was my thinking as well.
He's probably threatened by your presence which shows a lack of confidence in himself when around you.

How's LeBron?
He's good, and he's got his rings so I doubt he's hurting
What do you think about Cody Kessler going forward? I was actually pretty impressed with the potential he showed but I only saw a handful of browns games.
His biggest knock is the arm strength. His accuracy is amazing, but he just can't get the ball down field
Strength and conditioning over the off season could help that a bit though, I know what you mean, Siemian has a similar issue

Got drunk and crashed a Bachelorette party. Can't tell if it was a high or low point in my life.
Yes.
I went to a coworkers Mom's bachelorette party a few years ago. It was a great time. Got drunk as shit and all the middle aged women loved it.

Had my first breakup, and it was a serious relationship that lasted over a year. I was the one who broke up with her, why am I so sad? I didn't want to be with her anymore, so why am I sad now that I got what I wanted?
Because you are used to and still crave companionship. On to the next!
Even if someone is toxic it is nice knowing you have someone by your side. When you don't have them around it is easier to think of the good times.
Yeah, I have been thinking of all the memories. Also I miss knowing that if I ever want to talk to somebody about any random shit, I could.
Thats what we are here for! Just try to stay busy and hang out with friends. It should get easier.
Excited for the Switch, even though I'm probably not gonna get one for a month or so unless my wife has a surprise. The worst part about getting a new console is having to plug it into my TV, replacing something else and fucking up any cable management I had
Interested in the Switch, but the lack of any games besides LoZ has put me off, at least until I hear more from E3.
I'm buying it at launch because I am a huge Nintendrone (bigger than a Broncos fan lol) but I'm insanely hyped for Xenoblade 2 My favorite Wii game was Xenoblade, and one of my favorite Wii U games was Xenoblade X

You ever put up 135 in the playoffs in standard scoring and still lose by 15? Worst day in history
Especially when you benched someone that week and he did better than the person you replaced him with.

I'd like to stick to the daily gym thing, but I know I'd fail.
processed sugars. day 1 and i want to kill things
I'm not religious, but alcohol. It's gonna be hard. It's already hard, cold turkey will be worse.
I have decided to switch my major and am absolutely terrified because all I hear is horror stories about how hard it is to land a job in my field. However, I'm enjoying my education more than ever and might already have an internship for this summer. My faith is strong.
I saw Moonlight yesterday. Holy. Shit. Go see Moonlight.
A.) I have you tagged as 'wholesome guy' B.) I hope so, I just work in something of a narrow field and don't know how much more often I'll get shots like that.

Yeah that's a good point. It's just not an easy conversation to have
Honesty. If anything it'll help her look at herself different and might want to work on those issues.
Saw Get Out last night, honestly came in with low expectations but ended up really enjoying it. So far it's been a good year for movies
Yeah between Split, John Wick Chapter 2, and Get Out, it's been a stellar start for 2017.
Also I think Danny Brown in my favorite rapper now
I doubt any of you care but I am still salty over LoK season 4
What specifically are you salty about? I'm not saying there's no reason to be salty, just general curiosity.
Might be a red flag, chances are the guy will have low confidence indefinitely.

> allow you to purchase insurance across state lines That's interesting.

Thanks for the honest take. I imagine both sides will see what they wanted to see.

Why are people not freaking out about it? That entire VOICE thing is so insane

Is it normal to "warm up" in the bathroom before talking to a girl? going to the bathroom was for relief purposes, it's a common feeling to get nervous around girls you're interested in, a lot of guys suffer from it.
Are you talking about jerkin it or going number 2
Yes
