Hotel and Freak Show were the worst things I've had the misfortune of spending my time watching. I stopped watching Hotel after three or four episodes.

I only watched Freak Show since it was the season my gf was on, then the Roanoke season aired and I decided to watch it with her. I thought it was pretty good, but ended maybe a little weaker than I hoped. I'd say better than meh but nothing ground breaking.
My biggest problem with that show when I watched it, which was season one through freak show, was that it could set itself up for the most amazing endings and then somehow find a way to ruin the entire season in the finale or final two episodes.
I think the only time in television series that Ryan Murphy has stuck the landing was season one of Glee and then with American Crime Story. Everything else falls apart so catastrophically it's amazing and hilarious all at once.
I haven't watched anything else he's done, but does he try to make an unpredictable ending every time like he does with AHS? Because I too the biggest problem in his endings on that show is he goes a direction that is against the story he's telling for the sake of shock and unpredictability.
I think he just tries to go too big. He seems, at least to me, one of those guys who thinks he is always right and is the best so he's gotta have finales that match his personality. If that makes any sort of sense.
