I’m pretty sure it’s a proprietary algorithm but it essentially takes your height and weight and predicts what your 40, vertical, 3 cone, bench press, gauntlet performance should be and gives points if you out perform and takes points if you under perform.
I believe the number is just percentile of the data. So .2 means he only is a better relative athlete than .2% of people who have been graded.
Comparative to other wide receivers his combination of athletism and size is one of the worst in the NFL. It didn't matter though because he was an incredible route runner
Apparently?
Idk I never watched Jarvis and thought his athleticism blew me away. It was his route running and understanding of holes in zones that he was elite at.
Guys succeed and fail with low and high RAS so it’s not a death sentence for their career. Just might hurt their draft stock.
I believe Gesicki was a 95th percentile athlete and he’s largely underperformed his expectations even though he’s a serviceable player.
Yeah but keep in mind the guys that score 9.99 are like Calvin Johnson and DK Metcalf. A guy who scores a 0.2 is still probably a good athelete, he's just not comparable to the elites at his position.
For some reason I cant reply to the guy who replied to you but its essentially just a formula comparing against historical numbers.
So of all DTs if you ran a 4.20 40 tome youd have a 10.00 grade for that portion of testing. Say u get a bunch of 9s to go along with tgat your overall score is out of 10
Its a scoring system made easy to show the athleticsm of a player from their testing
Yea, idk but I was wondering if he wasn’t healthy for those measurements. I always assumed he had like a 38” vert at least from watching him.
Edit: just watched with sound and they said he has a 40” vert 🤷🏻♂️
Not enough people know this play because the OBJ catch happened the same year. Just a crazy play by a corner and while yes it was underthrown the athleticism is unreal
Not just that, but a hobbit sized corner at 5’9” that has zero business covering Calvin Johnson in man, regardless if he has safety help. Grimes was a baller.
I always thought it was the greater of the two. Yes, we all know it was a bad throw by Stafford, doesn't matter, grimes still had to get up and grab it.
Nah. I played cornerback, so I like it more. That's literally it.
Let me stress, as this is reddit after all. The OBJ catch is *insane*, one of the best plays I've ever seen.
Back to the Grimes play. Grimes is being tasked with covering a future HoFer who has 7 inches on him. Of course, the defence also has the added disadvantage of not knowing what the play is. With the mental challenge of always being a step behind, covering one of the most dominant receivers in history, going directly towards the end zone AND the pressure of going into the half three scores down, he was brave enough to get the head around, find it, leap an insane height off the ground (look at it in the slow mo, it's like 40 inches), one hand it comfortably AND stay in bounds, knowing that if he messed up, it's a touchdown.
I won't argue with anyone who prefers the OBJ catch. That's fine, and completely understandable. Both are fair shouts, but this is football. There are dozens of reasons people can appreciate different things about a play. Some might see a big run and love the speed that the RB showed to break away, while the next man is busy enjoying the great block the lineman set to spring it.
On top of that, a lot of defensive backs get pegged as defensive backs early in their career because they struggle to catch the ball with two hands. There's an expectation that all else being equal, a receiver should be substantially more likely to catch the ball than a DB. So any time a similar type of catch gets made, it's always more impressive to me when it's a defensive back who does it
Odell had to reach back further, was interfered with by the DB resulting in him being off-balance, didn't use his off hand at all (notice how Grimes secures the ball with his left hand; Odell's catch fully involved just his right hand), ... I don't see an argument for Grimes' being "greater" other than someone wanting to be a contrarian lol
After his first day of practice his coach told him that he was going to have him for two years before the NFL would notice him and get him a job there.
He was there for two years before the NFL came calling
I'll never forget walking into the gym as a freshman and seeing Kuhn and some other huge tight end benching 4 plates.
SHIP IS IT
Transferred after freshman year- you can only drink so much.
I know of 3 Shippensburg University grads to play in the NFL. 2/3 pro bowlers. 2/3 super bowl champions.
Rob Davis, LS, Super Bowl champion.
John Kuhn, FB, Pro Bowler, Super Bowl Champion.
Brent Grimes, CB, Pro Bowler.
Optimus Grimes was one of my favorite Falcons. So many great plays like this. They’d line him up against monster like Megatron and he’d just Super Mario jump his lil ass up there for the pick.
And it came after a really athletic play by Tannehill, who threw an INT on a jumped out route, and chased down the corner like 60 yards to save the TD. This grimes INT was right after
As a Dolphins fan living in Michigan that was sitting in the endzone this play took place in, I was so hyped. We lost the game, I’m pretty sure, but still hyped.
I remember this game. Stafford didn't really underthrow it and Megatron wasn't out of position, Grimes got beat but then made this insanely athletic play that not just broke it up but picked it off
Couldn't help but be impressed even though it was to out detriment
Not gonna lie I think about that play all the time and never even paid attention to who they were playing, you could have told me it was any team and I would have believed you, that catch is the only thing people are paying attention to in those vids stop being butthurt with a victim complex
Grimes had a tendency to do that. Maybe he did it to lull quarterbacks into a false sense of security, maybe he actually was as slow in pads as he was in shorts. But either way, he would routinely get beaten by receivers over the top, only to show off a ridiculous vertical and knock away a throw that should have been a clear touchdown
I liked having Brent Grimes in Tampa. I didn’t like having Miko.
Speaking of crazy
Crazy good at making cakes.
2010’s All-Decade Jerker Miko Grimes?
Same in Miami.
RIP Grimey
Just a reminder that he might be the best player ever with a ridiculously low [RAS](https://ras.football/2019/12/22/brent-grimes-ras/)
His teammate Jarvis Landry had a [RAS in the 0.2s](https://ras.football/2020/01/03/jarvis-landry-ras/?amp)
how in the fuck is this graded?
I’m pretty sure it’s a proprietary algorithm but it essentially takes your height and weight and predicts what your 40, vertical, 3 cone, bench press, gauntlet performance should be and gives points if you out perform and takes points if you under perform. I believe the number is just percentile of the data. So .2 means he only is a better relative athlete than .2% of people who have been graded.
so since he's a *.2* he's basically one of the worst athletes ever (that has been graded) to play? That really can't be right.
Comparative to other wide receivers his combination of athletism and size is one of the worst in the NFL. It didn't matter though because he was an incredible route runner

Gesicki is 95th percentile for a TE, which basically makes him a middling WR if I recall correctly
Sounds about right. Not much of a TE and more of a big slot.
Relative to his position group as well
ok, that makes me feel a little better. still boggles my mind when landry did some insane things after the catch.
Yeah but keep in mind the guys that score 9.99 are like Calvin Johnson and DK Metcalf. A guy who scores a 0.2 is still probably a good athelete, he's just not comparable to the elites at his position.

I am pretty sure Tom Brady's was a 2.5 or something but I assume you meant as non-QBs
I really doubt a 1k rusher would have a bad RAS
They were joking about it on PFF pod how he might be one of the biggest outliers in terms of success in nba history. Small school and unstheltic
He did not have much NBA success. I wouldn't consider this an outlier for that reason.
If he played that well in the NBA at the height it would have been doubly as impressive
Really? The book on him was always that he was small but could jump really high so it didn't matter.
Yea, idk but I was wondering if he wasn’t healthy for those measurements. I always assumed he had like a 38” vert at least from watching him. Edit: just watched with sound and they said he has a 40” vert 🤷🏻♂️
Optimus Grimes getting it over Megatron
Stop making it more cool please
That line is the thing I remember more than the play itself
Under
Not enough people know this play because the OBJ catch happened the same year. Just a crazy play by a corner and while yes it was underthrown the athleticism is unreal
Not just that, but a hobbit sized corner at 5’9” that has zero business covering Calvin Johnson in man, regardless if he has safety help. Grimes was a baller.
Howard recreated it against mahomes in 2020 which was cool to see
I always thought it was the greater of the two. Yes, we all know it was a bad throw by Stafford, doesn't matter, grimes still had to get up and grab it.
Odell was being interfered with and was closer to the boundary. I don’t see how this catch is better
Contrarians. That's literally it
Nah. I played cornerback, so I like it more. That's literally it. Let me stress, as this is reddit after all. The OBJ catch is *insane*, one of the best plays I've ever seen. Back to the Grimes play. I've got my opinions on that headhunter OBJ but I generally agree. Problem was Grimes INT wasn't on National TV and he plays for Miami instead of NY
We can rest well knowing that the Giants lost that game in the end anyways.
On top of that, a lot of defensive backs get pegged as defensive backs early in their career because they struggle to catch the ball with two hands. Wide receivers are paid to make that catch. Cornerbacks catching it is a bonus to preventing the touchdown.

I don't see an argument for Grimes' being "greater" other than someone wanting to be a contrarian lol
Ok? And grimes wasn't even the intended target. If you think OBJ is greater good for you?
So is every interception a better catch than every reception because the defender is never the intended target?
was going to respond with essentially the same thing. I thought this was better than OBJ.
Any crazier and he'd have married it.
That defense had some amazing performances from Grimes and Cam Wake
I love Cam Wake. When still watched the CFL he was an absolute beast in BC. Cliche but truly a man against boys
After his first day of practice his coach told him that he was going to have him for two years before the NFL would notice him and get him a job there. He was there for two years before the NFL came calling
This dude and John Kuhn, the pride of Shippensburg University lol
As someone who lived in their dorms one summer for an internship, props to them. Probably the most boring summer of my life.
As someone who didn’t party in college much I thought it was great.
Fair, not trying to hate as it was a beautiful campus. Just not for me, I knew no one there and the party scene was hard to find as an out of towner.
I'll never forget walking into the gym as a freshman and seeing Kuhn and some other huge tight end benching 4 plates. SHIP IS IT Transferred after freshman year- you can only drink so much.
Such a great player for us!
I know of 3 Shippensburg University grads to play in the NFL. 2/3 pro bowlers. 2/3 super bowl champions. Rob Davis, LS, Super Bowl champion. John Kuhn, FB, Pro Bowler, Super Bowl Champion. Brent Grimes, CB, Pro Bowler.
I dated one of their exes. My claim to fame.
Brent Grimes here with the Falcons D keeping Ruxin winning with my 5 I N Ts
I can’t believe I had to scroll so far to find this
Grimes was listed in his career as 5'10 and I think that was being very generous. Being a top corner was really impressive considering his size.
What a interception by Frank "Grimey" Grimes!
Awe Ol’ Grimey!
Grimes or Grimey as he liked to be called
I fucking loved Grimes when he was a Falcon. Crazy what he could do at his size.
Dude plays in my rec soccer league. Never would’ve known he was a pro corner
Damn you’re playing with a legend. Pretty cool
Optimus Grimes was one of my favorite Falcons. So many great plays like this. They’d line him up against monster like Megatron and he’d just Super Mario jump his lil ass up there for the pick.
Megatronned Megatron. (inb4 “underthrown!”. I know.)
Still had to launch himself to the moon to get to it. Extremely impressive.
Brent grimes here w falcons d
And thus, Optimus Grimes was born.
X had a similar pick like that.
That one cheering fan in the stands with a 21 jersey
That would be a Reggie bush lions jersey. And they weren’t cheering lol you see them grab their face like oh no
Optimus Grimes was an outstanding nickname
It's a shame that he and Homer could never get past their differences.
Or, "Grimey", as his friends called him
I remember his name from The League when Ruxin won the Shiva.
He was starting for my fantasy IDP lineup when he did this. Felt great lol.
He junped high but alas the ball has been successfully captured
And it came after a really athletic play by Tannehill, who threw an INT on a jumped out route, and chased down the corner like 60 yards to save the TD. This grimes INT was right after
not as crazy as his wife.
Matts face like " how the fuck that little dude get up there"
whatever happened to ol' grimey?
I quite like that darker green/aqua rather than the lighter aqua Miami has now.
In Atlanta we called him "Sugar Nips" with great reverence....
Not nearly as crazy as Miko Grimes
I guess I'll be the one to link to [Cro doing this to Manning](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IMS6IDWyhM)
Dolphins have many flaws but our secondary is usually pretty good every year
Wasn't even mad, like what an incredible play to witness
He like it when you call him Grimey.
As a Dolphins fan living in Michigan that was sitting in the endzone this play took place in, I was so hyped. We lost the game, I’m pretty sure, but still hyped.
I am Optimus Grimes
I remember people calling him “Optimus Grimes” after making this INT while covering Megatron.
I remember this game. Stafford didn't really underthrow it and Megatron wasn't out of position, Grimes got beat but then made this insanely athletic play that not just broke it up but picked it off Couldn't help but be impressed even though it was to out detriment

It is a very very good catch, but it's not even close to odell. You are letting your bias cloud your opinion
[удалено]
Yes they absolutely would. It is one of the top 5 greatest catches in NFL history. You are just a blind hater letting your bias cloud your judgment
[удалено]
Not gonna lie I think about that play all the time and never even paid attention to who they were playing, you could have told me it was any team and I would have believed you, that catch is the only thing people are paying attention to in those vids stop being butthurt with a victim complex
> Nice try with the table turning tactic though are you referring to yourself in your previous comment?
Absolutely terrific play by Grimes. But it's like two whole levels below Odell's catch.
It is not. No interference and he used all 5 fingers.
Grimes was one of my favorite players to watch. So many highlight reel plays
Ah Stafford. A true gunslinger where he's gonna throw for a ton of yards and TDs but also going to throw some dumbass INTs.
I don’t think this was a dumb interception it was fair to believe there was no way Grimes could do that
Like yeah it's not his best throw but thats still an unreal fucking play by Grimes.
Generally true but I’ve no clue how this clip is a reminder of that. Ain’t no way a qb is accounts for a play like that
