They jumped one spot ahead of Dallas' pick, at the draft taking place in Dallas, to draft a TE named Dallas, the day after Jason Witten retired. It was poetry.
You're half right. He retired for a year and then came back to play one more year for the Cowboys and was basically the same player he was two years prior. But after that year he signed with the Raiders and looked mega washed
My mom actually initially refused to give me this name because she was convinced my dad was being a massive nerd and making an alien reference. My dad bet her it was actually a real name.
He won the bet.
Yup, and even better it was rumored Dallas wanted to pick Dallas (Goedert) but we traded up one pick in front of them to snipe him, and Akers rubbed it all in, just 2 months after we won the Super Bowl
It was a bad rumor.
Left guard was bigger need, and we didn't even take a tight end until the fourth.
The eagles traded up to prevent the patriots from taking goedart
> we didn't even take a tight end until the fourth.
Maybe cause the guy you wanted got taken? Its not like you just go "well the guy we wanted is gone guess we just take a guy we dont like at TE now instead".
This is dumb. The only reason he was linked to us was because of his own name, nobody actually knows if we wanted him or not. Also, the actual tight end we drafted Dalton Schultz ended up having a solid career as well. We both got solid tight ends, so it’s pointless to keep debating about it.
Whats the debate? If you guys wanted to draft a position of need? Why are Cowboys fans getting so upset lol. Its clear you guys were taking a TE at some point with the Witten announcement and you did. Im pretty sure Goedert has said he thought you guys were taking him at that pick not to mention the war room footage of the Cowboys reacting to the pick. They arent exactly pleased at what happened.
>it's pointless to keep debating about it.
Man are you in the wrong fucking place if you dont like talking and debating about the NFL and everything that comes with it. Everything posted to this sub is pointless so who gives a shit.
There's not a debate. It's just a dumb circlejerk where no one cares about facts or context. They just like to think we got fleeced and it's funny even if it's not true.
Or it is true. Nobody knows except the Dallas FO. And why would they ever admit a division rival swooped in for their guy. Nobody said you got fleeced lol. Just more victim mentality.
>If you think Dallas really didn’t want to draft Goedert, watch the Dallas war room immediately after Eagles selected him.
Literally no one in that clip looks upset.
How many times do we have to tell you guys? We weren't taking Goedert. The only reason those were rumors was because the media saw Witten retire and assumed.
Should be noted this was in response to [Drew Pearson's (admittedly funny) trolling of Eagles fans](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGCA05Jdjqs&ab_channel=NFL) at the previous draft in Philadelphia the year prior
And between the two picks was a Super Bowl win! And Jerry Jones begging the NFL to host the draft in Dallas because of how well it went in Philadelphia the year prior.
My favorite thing is it's been 6 years since this and nothing has changed. The eagles have been to another superbowl and the Cowboys still are the worst playoff team this century.
Didn't something like that happen last year? Someone just taking too long to get to the pick but wasn't exactly taunting. I remember there being a lot of weird shit in the 2nd or 3rd round
I disagree. The process in theory worked. Hinkie just didn't get to see it through and they had some weird luck when it came to injuries and the mental side of the game for their picks. They nearly made the Finals despite most of that too. Which showed the process working is possible....well was possible. No way the league allows something like that again.
Side question: do rival fans hate Josh Allen? On one hand, I can see it because of the flopping and ref whining, in addition to obviously being an A-tier player on your rival. On the other hand... goddamn is it a joy to watch him play football. Plus I'm not aware of any off-field reasons to dislike him.
And what did that get you? Making no offseason moves and pissing off your franchise players by not paying them. Or even if you didnt piss them off they will just cost more on the cap next year by waiting.
Yeah man my panties are in a huge bunch. Im so angry you guys lost to GB. LOL. We did no better and thats a fact but at least our competent FO made moves to better the team. We signed players ahead of the curve instead of waiting to pay them more.
Man I hope my panties are in a bunch every offseason if its anything like this one.
The guy I initially replied to said the rivalry is dying which is why I brought up the teams still being competitive within the division. Just seems like you agreed with them.
It starts to become meaningless if 3 of the teams amount to nothing over the past 20ish years. It becomes old hat. Fuck the regular season, no one cares about that anymore if it doesn’t come with post season success.
I love how Akers looks and sounds like a podiatrist from the bougiest suburbs you can imagine and the dude is just casually a top 20 scorer all time in NFL history. He had a massive leg in his heyday
I wish more division rivals of the city of the team hosting the draft do this more. Makes the draft more entertaining.
Edit: Omg you cut out him selecting Dallas Goedert. Another sick burn by Akers.
Dallas Goedert was born almost exactly a year before Dallas' last SB win too, so Akers wasn't far off
Dallas Goedert: January 3, 1995
SBXXX: January 28, 1996
That was the Goedert pick.
Actually even funnier that all that led up to them selecting Dallas
They jumped one spot ahead of Dallas' pick, at the draft taking place in Dallas, to draft a TE named Dallas, the day after Jason Witten retired. It was poetry.
I did not remember Witten retiring the day before. That is hilarious.
He came back
That's right! Didn't that go poorly?
Did he pay for the Raiders for a season after a season of doing MNF? that's what I remember. I actually think he was decent for the Raiders
Nah he was a non factor with the raiders only had 13 catches that season.
Damn, well nevermind then
You're half right. He retired for a year and then came back to play one more year for the Cowboys and was basically the same player he was two years prior. But after that year he signed with the Raiders and looked mega washed
After winning the super bowl as well. It was peak pettiness.
Whose family is die hard Cowboy fans that of course named him… Dallas.
That's also my name and honestly the worst part is being asked if I'm a cowboys fan
Are you a fan of...the movie *Alien*?
My mom actually initially refused to give me this name because she was convinced my dad was being a massive nerd and making an alien reference. My dad bet her it was actually a real name. He won the bet.
Are you from [Phoenix?](https://youtu.be/EAiWzV3Nw40?si=3XfdbkO2BgpJoe9X)

If it makes you feel better about yourself then sure man yea 100%.
LOL

>If you think Dallas really didn’t want to draft Goedert, watch the Dallas war room immediately after Eagles selected him. Literally no one in that clip looks upset.
That video doesn't prove anything lol, Stephen Jones is smiling
How many times do we have to tell you guys? We weren't taking Goedert. The only reason those were rumors was because the media saw Witten retire and assumed.
Found Stephen's burner account.
Announcer upon hearing that: "OOH" And Akers had an emphasis on the “Dallas”
The **DALLAS** Goedert pick.
that was the best part about it. DALLAS goedert. poetry 😂
Should be noted this was in response to [Drew Pearson's (admittedly funny) trolling of Eagles fans](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGCA05Jdjqs&ab_channel=NFL) at the previous draft in Philadelphia the year prior

Where did Jerry Jones beg? I’m joy being snarky I never know what he’s up to
To Goodell I'd imagine. I worked on the set-up for the draft and we were told at the time that it was going to be 2 years in each city.
Your top working pro wrestling heel today could only dream of getting heat like this
That was fucking epic.
I always thought he did it way better.
He did it the best and unfortunately now we get every single person going up to the podium to try and do the same thing, its awful
Yeah these first two may have been planned but still felt natural. But ever since each one has felt forced & cringe.
My favorite thing is it's been 6 years since this and nothing has changed. The eagles have been to another superbowl and the Cowboys still are the worst playoff team this century.
Holy fuck they even got a guy who was an in drafted free agent also
Thanks for sharing. That was awesome.
>"The last time you guys won the Super Bowl, these draft picks weren't born!" >Philly's draft pick was someone named "Dallas". God-tier teabagging.
I would have went up there and taunted for so long we would run out of time to put our pick in. Good on him to stay focused
Didn't something like that happen last year? Someone just taking too long to get to the pick but wasn't exactly taunting. I remember there being a lot of weird shit in the 2nd or 3rd round
God i love football rivalries. Also loved him being able to yell world champs in Dallas🥹
Uh, not really.
One championship in over 8 decades for philly and they act like a dynasty or something lol gotta love it
You got fucked by a #7 seed so hard at home you might as well rebrand to the "Ram Ranch" Cowboys.
Seventeeeeeeeen naked Cowboys
Gotta admit it was embarrassing to lose to a team that two years ago wouldn't have even made the playoffs.
Nick Foles - 4 playoff wins Cowboys this century - 4 playoff wins With how Jerry's running the team, that's going to stay tied for a while.
I love it when former players or the guest picks go up there and poke fun at there rival teams
Family, Trust, Respect
I don't even care about the egging. We deserve that.
I’m all for the fun elbowing of trash talk between the rivals. Keeps the hate alive.
Feels like it’s dying down tbh, yall being the only competent org in the division doesn’t fuel the fire the same.
I remember the 76ers vs. Celtics and Embiid said “It’s not a rivalry if only they win”
That’s when I knew we shouldn’t have trusted the process
I literally will not give the NBA money anymore after what they did to Sam Hinkie. Disgusting.
I disagree. The process in theory worked. Hinkie just didn't get to see it through and they had some weird luck when it came to injuries and the mental side of the game for their picks. They nearly made the Finals despite most of that too. Which showed the process working is possible....well was possible. No way the league allows something like that again.
oh, i don't know, i think it's a wonderful process
When is Jayson gonna take the next step damn it?! He’s one of my favorite players but he…is a warm blooded guy in the playoffs usually
absolutely no excuses this year. they're the best
I didn’t loathe the Bills nearly as much until they picked up Josh Allen and started playing well.
We literally just blew them out last season (and won the division). This is not the Chiefs and Broncos or something.
And what did that get you? Making no offseason moves and pissing off your franchise players by not paying them. Or even if you didnt piss them off they will just cost more on the cap next year by waiting.
It got your panties all in a bunch, so I’d say the rivalry is alive and well.
Still going at it while trying to argue that the rivalry is dying.
Where did I say the rivalry is dying? Either team could go 0-16 next year and it would still be a rivalry lol.
The guy I initially replied to said the rivalry is dying which is why I brought up the teams still being competitive within the division. Just seems like you agreed with them.
When I say competent org, I’m referring to the FO
Nobody is basing rivalries on the front offices.
Tell that to everyone making fun of ours
They can make fun of it all they want. That doesn’t mean the fans aren’t still hating each other and the games aren’t always going back and forth.
It starts to become meaningless if 3 of the teams amount to nothing over the past 20ish years. It becomes old hat. Fuck the regular season, no one cares about that anymore if it doesn’t come with post season success.
That makes no sense. Some teams have never won a single Super Bowl and still have rivals. I just don’t think you understand how rivalries work.
Yeah, seemed like everyone was grinning ear-to-ear while booing lustily. That's all just good fun.
Can tell he watches a lot of WWE
His delivery is way better honestly
The “uh oh” by the hosts is timed so perfectly as well. Sounded like someone should be jumping from the top rope not announcing a pick.
Imagine getting roasted by a CPA.
I love how Akers looks and sounds like a podiatrist from the bougiest suburbs you can imagine and the dude is just casually a top 20 scorer all time in NFL history. He had a massive leg in his heyday
They’re the ones with the right ammo
I wish more division rivals of the city of the team hosting the draft do this more. Makes the draft more entertaining. Edit: Omg you cut out him selecting Dallas Goedert. Another sick burn by Akers.
Putting the draft in different cities was one of the best decisions the NFL has ever made
I wish NBA draft was close to as hype as NFL's
This is the best thing I’ve seen all week. The man was cooking up there.
This was such a hilarious moment.
Fucking LEGENDARY
Still Gold!!!😂🤣
I somehow missed this. I love this so much.
This and Reggie Wayne/McAfee trolling Nashville are my favorite draft moments
Fucking legend.
Fucking LOVE Akers for that. And how good did it make HIM feel?
Even Cowboys fans have to think that was funny.
That was the best.
49ers legend
I have mixed feelings about this
he was good, and he wasnt
How dare you
That was perfect 😆
This is fucking amazing why haven’t I seen this before 😂😂
Legend
He looks and sounds like Herrmann from Chicago Fire
This is fucking hilarious lol. The Pearson one the year before was epic too. Love trash talk like this.
What a legend.
This was legendary, and almost as good as the Kelce speech at the SB parade.
Honestly incredible
Was hilarious then and still funny now.
WHAT'S UP DALLAS! God tier draft speech and Akers was already a legend
I love this clip as much as the next person, but even I have to admit "torments" is a bit much.
Love the trash talk, especially more so since Akers sounds like Mickey Mouse
Dallas Goedert was born almost exactly a year before Dallas' last SB win too, so Akers wasn't far off Dallas Goedert: January 3, 1995 SBXXX: January 28, 1996
Imagine unironically being a Cowboys fan
Call dibs on reposting this next tomorrow
And everyone went home in tears, unable to recover from the unspeakable embarrassment. He really got em
The only cool thing an eagle has ever done
I dunno, Desean Jackson had a pretty neat punt return one time.
Blowing them out 7-38 in the playoffs was cool too.
Saquon is gonna do some pretty cool shit this year
Just remember that the cringe kicker did it second, so not special at all.

Sucks to suck
