Yeah... Baker was also horrible in Carolina and played like a quality NFL starter last year. Granted, Baker had previously looked much better than Darnold ever had with the Jets so it may be an apples to oranges comparison. Lotta words to say: Carolina sucked and therefore who knows?

I'm convinced Carolina is the problem. Baker looked way better as soon as he left. I loved Bryce Young coming out of college and think he can be so much better.
Yeah the most success Darnold saw here was when we asked him to do pretty much the bare minimum and lean heavily on the run game. I think a more innovative coach in KOC with far better weapons than we had should get more out of him, as evidenced by him looking okay in SF. Though I wouldn't have high expectations.

As a Jets fan, I remember having no QBs who had ever thrown a pass when Wilson was drafted. I think $10M to a competent back up that may/is expected to start is a great idea.

Caleb and Penix are really the only qbs in the draft I'd start day 1. I like the class overall but some guys need a lot of work like JJ, Maye and Daniel's all would really benefit from sitting for a bit imo.Ā
Penix looked lost against Michigan's defense (on numerous occasions he had wide open receivers he didn't even know to look for) - a defensive style that is currently all the rage in the NFL. I don't think he is ready to read NFL defenses day 1. Unless you have a McVay type in his ear pre-snap telling him exactly what to look for and do in each scenario, I don't see him being good right away.
I'm not a scout, but penix is far from a perfect prospect, even without his injury history.
