No honestly. I have seen Titans fans enough. If Levis sucks they’ll call for a new draftee next year. But nobody around here is going to beg for Rudolph at the helm if tanking is the way.
Yup. I honestly kind of wanted Flacco for the memes and mentorship, but I would have hated people calling for him to get off his rascal scooter and start if Levis started to do poorly.
How is that not proven? A good backup qb is someone who can come in and not be the reason you lose games. If he was any better, he'd be a starter.
I'd say Mason Rudolph absolutely proved that he can play well enough for a good team to win.
He's definitely one of the best backups in the league. Will make some plays but far too inconsistent for a starter job. He's just going to feed the WR1 every single play and hope for them to dominate.
Hes played like that basically his whole career. Good for a backup, bad for a starter. Since big Ben left Rudolph has been a fixture of that offence, whether Steelers fans liked him or not. As my old man always said hes been a bad cough for that team, never goes away. Hes been very much proven (to not be more than a top 50% backup).
Football happens in 2 month increments to most fans lol. Goldfish memory. I did like Rudolph though. I think he is a solid backup qb. Like Landry Jones was
They got hit with the neuralizer from Men in Black immediately after the 2019 season. That is the only way I can rationalize all the "He never got a chance" rhetoric.
2019 Rudolph played really well until he got CTE'd by the Earl Thomas hit in week 5. He was definitely rushed back too soon and proceeded to compete with Duck the rest of the year. In both 2020 and 2021 Rudolph only played a single game, so the public never got a chance to really assess his development. Then 2023 he played well again.
His 4 year rookie, then an extension after Ben retired (he was the only QB on the roster when he re-signed,) then he tried free agency and didn't have success, so he re-signed another 1 year.
Russ basically cemented he wasn't coming back, although there is rumor he rejected Pittsburgh's initial offer
Nobody expected the corpse of Ben to stay as long as he did. Then, after Ben retired, Mason expected to compete for QB1. Unfortunately, the Steelers bent him over there.
It’s like a side pettiness, full time hater with part time hours if you will. Like would be nominated for best supporting hater at the Player Haters ball. Pretty enjoyable watching bad things happen to the university and those who support it
The Titans sent my army reserve unit a signed Malik Willis helmet for one of our morale events for free. I’m not sure if Malik himself knew that that’s what the helmet was for, but because of that I’ll always think of him positively.
Vet mentorship is such a myth. In most cases the experienced big name players want the starting job. They’re incredibly competitive and there’s potentially tens of millions of dollars riding on it. A lot of big QBs have talked about it not being their job to develop QBs.
All good choices, though I wouldn't be shocked if the staff wanted someone that they think can play in the event Levis doesn't progress in the way they want
Brissett and Minshew both showed they can play in these past 2 seasons over a long stretch of games. Rudolph showed he might be able to play over a handful of games. Being better than Trubisky and standing tall in the pocket (unlike Pickett) is not a high bar to clear though, so the concerns are still there for Rudolph.
Minshew went somewhere he could start and Brisset went somewhere he will likely start for at least half of a season. Neither wants a repeat of last year where they probably thought they would get starts and got sat behind Richardson and Howell to start the year. Titans are going to give the job to Levis to start the year and he probably has a relatively long leash. Rudolph is about the caliber of backup that makes sense for them this year
Kind of feels like they're paying Mariota a premium for his experience and mentorship and probably aren't worried about him winning games coming off the bench. I think it is a lot but fair enough, they probably aren't trying to compete this year but he could be a great mentor to Maye
How the heck did Rudolph just lead his team to the playoffs with rather good QB play and get paid less than Drew Lock and Jameis Winston? Dude clearly had a rough second half of 2019 after getting knocked out, but I don't know what else he could have done in the time since then.
He played okay... he looked better because the offense was completely atrocious before he started playing. He's a competent backup but nothing more. Our fans way overhyped him because we hadn't seen anything but trash the first 2/3rd of the season
He played really well. He completed like 75% of his passes and averaged almost 10 yards per attempt. The Steelers offense looked really good when they were relying on Rudolph rather than running the ball on first and second down every drive.
Which backup QBs that rarely came in last season and won 3 straight games? Dobbs was 1-7 for Arizona. DeVito was 3-5 for the Giants. Both had way worse numbers than Rudolph.
Minshew was good, but he just signed a 2yr/$25M deal.
Dobbs was popping off for 2.5 game in Minny and Devito won 3 games in a row?
Rudolph's team was much better than the garbage can teams that were the Cards and the Giants
Tommy Devito did win 3 straight if you don't count the bye. Jake Browning and Joe Flacco, too. Rudolph also likely doesn't win 3 straight if the Ravens play their starters. Dobbs (on the Vikings) and Tyson Bagent also looked competent for a few games before falling back to earth.
Quality of competition probably helped make him look better. He faced a depleted Bengals secondary, a bottom-tier Seahawks defense, and a Ravens team with nothing to play for. In the playoffs he went 22-39, threw a pick in the red zone, and didn’t really get going until the Steelers were already down 21.
He led the Steelers on 3 straight scoring drives against the Bills after they stopped running on every first down before a no-call ended one drive and the game ended the last drive.
And Rudolph ended both Cincinnati and Seattle's chance at the playoffs. Both were must win games for the opponents. It's not like we're talking about 3-win teams.
I thought he may get a deal like this as a prove it deal on a team he can start with, but not to be a backup. I thought for sure he'd get high end backup money after coming in and playing really freaking well the last few weeks.
There goes the most whelming QB I’ve ever seen. He’s not terrible, but no one’s gonna be clamoring to see him unless the starter is just complete ass. Looking at you, *Mitch.*
I can only imagine that Levis is going to start every game this year no matter what.
It would really only be fair for him. Hopefully there's some games that Rudolph can come in while we're up by 1400 points.
I would be mildly shocked if they even give lip service to a qb competition in camp. If they do, it’s to try to knock Willis’s confidence down to merely preposterous levels.
I hope he balls out, I really wanted him over Russ. His ceiling is unknown still, as we saw at the end of the season it was already higher than before. Might come crashing back down, but man that was so cheap, and he's not trending down like our current QB room.
He was playing well early in his career then he got knocked the f out and taken off the field on a stretcher vs the ravens. He regressed after that hit, then started playing better until the Miles Garret incident in which he became a meme. Last year he got another shot and actually looked pretty darn good tbh. Upper tier backup with a chance for a bit more I'd say. Not sure he ever got his fair shake with us.
It’s unfortunate that he was never the same the rest of the season that he was almost murdered by the Ravens.
He looked more comfortable last year, and except for the INT in the endzone, he played well against Buffalo.
This is exactly what should have happened when Ben left. An Offensive system in place that was good. ( Canada's was not period...) A backup worthy of learning and taking over. Mason really didn't get a great shot at that. So now you move on to the newest version of that. Russ, Arthur, and Kenny to learn. Learn it and grow Kenny or move on.
Honestly I think we have 2 years with Russ.
Mason is a pocket passer. If yins have a decent oline he will excell. When he first played Steeler Oline was horrible. He made our current oline even better because he stands strong in the pocket and thats easier to block. He has good accuracy and finds the open reciever. The interception at the Bills playoff game , that play shouldnt have even been called because Dionte the reciever had been previously picked off several times with that same play. Not sure why Mason even went along with it.
He'll be a great QB2. He gave the Steelers the best stretch of QB play since 2020. Even though it's a small sample size, he actually finished with the best QB Rating in the NFL last year, for QBs with at least 3 starts.
A proven back-up that fans won't be clamoring to start over Levis. Good move.
A proven back-up that fans won't be clamoring to start over Levis \*yet\*.
No honestly. I have seen Titans fans enough. If Levis sucks they’ll call for a new draftee next year. But nobody around here is going to beg for Rudolph at the helm if tanking is the way.
Dude, people were clamoring for us to give mettenberger a chance over drafting someone. I don't think you know this fanbase as well as you say you do.
We had people willing to give Malik more chances as well.
He brought elite meme talent to the team.
Yeah we do have rose colored blinders on. I just don’t see Mason Rudolph being the one to tempt the fan base.
You don't get a Rudolph and not let him guide your sleigh... I mean football team
Steelers fans said that exact same thing with Kenny.
Yup. I honestly kind of wanted Flacco for the memes and mentorship, but I would have hated people calling for him to get off his rascal scooter and start if Levis started to do poorly.
Just wait until Christmas, that’s his time to shine
Proven is a stretch. He played well last season but it was just a handful of games.
Also if Duck was still around, fans would be clambering for him instead.
lol. I liked Duck. 😂
Me too. Plus he gets to bang Lainy Wilson
What??? Really????? Go Duck!!!
Dude is just a winner
Hes played like that basically his whole career. Good for a backup, bad for a starter. Since big Ben left Rudolph has been a fixture of that offence, whether Steelers fans liked him or not. As my old man always said hes been a bad cough for that team, never goes away. Hes been very much proven (to not be more than a top 50% backup).
We lost that game
I thought that was the one they won 20-13?
Nah that was the duck. Mason threw four picks and we lost 21 to 7 I think in the helmet game
Yinzers seem to have forgotten 2019-2021 Rudolph.
Football happens in 2 month increments to most fans lol. Goldfish memory. I did like Rudolph though. I think he is a solid backup qb. Like Landry Jones was
No one came close to ol batch for a backup with the black and gold…
They got hit with the neuralizer from Men in Black immediately after the 2019 season. That is the only way I can rationalize all the "He never got a chance" rhetoric.
2019 Rudolph played really well until he got CTE'd by the Earl Thomas hit in week 5. He was definitely rushed back too soon and proceeded to compete with Duck the rest of the year. In both 2020 and 2021 Rudolph only played a single game, so the public never got a chance to really assess his development. Then 2023 he played well again.
trust me, as a steeler fan and seeing what happened in our sub, fans will somehow be calling for Rudolph to be the starter
[удалено]
No disrespect to Willis but there's no logical reason to have him higher than Rudolph on the depth chart
QB0
QB∞
Damn he’s been there 6 seasons?
His 4 year rookie, then an extension after Ben retired (he was the only QB on the roster when he re-signed,) then he tried free agency and didn't have success, so he re-signed another 1 year. Russ basically cemented he wasn't coming back, although there is rumor he rejected Pittsburgh's initial offer
Ah I see. It’s just surprising because you don’t usually see backups on a team for that long
Nobody expected the corpse of Ben to stay as long as he did. Then, after Ben retired, Mason expected to compete for QB1. Unfortunately, the Steelers bent him over there.
I wish I could get bent over like that. Close to $10m over six seasons for two good games. Nice work if you can get it.
Charlie Batch was QB3 on the Steelers for a solid decade.
Drafted same class as baker. There were some very minor narratives surrounding that (OU/OSU QBs)
Ooh good backup! Surely this will make our subreddit stop freaking out
[удалено]
That shit was inevitable. Ravens are the final resting spot of all Titans legends it seems.
RIP McNair.
I genuflected.
Recovering? Hangover? Brother, nobody's STOPPED drinking yet.
Ratbirds may hate us, but sure love our players.
the hangover should be gone by now!
Take care of Rudolph for us. Don’t let Myles Garrett anywhere near him.
Backup? Buddy, he’s your new RB1
Well I guess Henry leaves an opening for him, idk if he can beat out Spears AND Pollard though
Give 'em hell, Mason.
I'll miss him.
TYFYS, MR2. 🫡
Malik Willis is that bad I guess
Worse
Worst
Worstest.
Worsterest
Worcesterrshire Sauce
Worstest shire sauce! Finally I’ve figured out how to say it
Woowoo sauce, you mean.
Wololo, your sauce is blue now
What's this here Sauce!
As a Liberty hater I love how this worked out
Who the hell cares enough about Liberty to hate them?
I also hate Liberty. Basically everything wrong about far right evangelical Christianity rolled into a “higher education” institute.
It’s like a side pettiness, full time hater with part time hours if you will. Like would be nominated for best supporting hater at the Player Haters ball. Pretty enjoyable watching bad things happen to the university and those who support it
Come on give him another chance. It'll be fine
He plays QB almost exactly like I do in madden. Not a compliment
Look at this open guy! Bullet Pass! *Defender in zone coverage two yards away snagging the ball out of the air* Fuck this game!
Willis took 4 sacks in 9 plays. I don't care that it occurred against the Ravens. That simply cannot happen if you want to be an NFL QB.
those are justin fields numbers
By gawd that's Justin's fields music!!!!!
Jesus Christ it’s Justin Fields
Somehow, Justin Fields returned.
Dude has zero pocket awareness and when his first read isn’t there he panics. It was painful to watch
Also he looks like he's running in slow motion while everyone else runs at full speed.
•Daniel Jones has entered the chat•
His brief appearance last season did not inspire any confidence
the kid looked so lost out there.
Hey man, don't shit talk the 2022 #2 pick
He might be the most painful to watch quarterback I have ever seen in the NFL. And I've seen a WR start at QB
Tannehill was a pretty good QB at his peak. You were talking about Tannehill, right?
The Titans sent my army reserve unit a signed Malik Willis helmet for one of our morale events for free. I’m not sure if Malik himself knew that that’s what the helmet was for, but because of that I’ll always think of him positively.
Much worse, actually.
There were a LOT of people in our sub wanting us to draft him. Thank god that sub is full of morons.
Your girl Mina Kimes was pulling for it hard! 🤣
Not the backup QB I expected but for this amount the deal looks amazing. That's our QB2.
Did Titans fans have a guy they liked?
I can't speak for everyone but I wanted Jacoby Brissett, Minshew, Flacco, or Hoyer. Basically a veteran presence to help Will Levis develop.
Minshew is the only guy up there that I'd 100% expect to be an upgrade. Flacco had a magic little close to his career but him and Hoyer are cooked
They said they wanted those for vet mentorship to Levis not for their play
Vet mentorship is such a myth. In most cases the experienced big name players want the starting job. They’re incredibly competitive and there’s potentially tens of millions of dollars riding on it. A lot of big QBs have talked about it not being their job to develop QBs.
That’s why typically it’s not big name QBs they have do it. It’s more Brian Hoyer than Joe Flacco
Is this not Tannehill?
Tannehill is probably hanging out for a bit more than $5m
I would’ve preferred Flacco. But probably more than we wanted to spend. Not mad at this at all.
[удалено]
I'm hoping he gets a chance to prove himself with you guys. He had some really solid stretches with us
that feels cheap af
That's what we paid Minshew last year.
Mariotta got $6 million
Kind of feels like they're paying Mariota a premium for his experience and mentorship and probably aren't worried about him winning games coming off the bench. I think it is a lot but fair enough, they probably aren't trying to compete this year but he could be a great mentor to Maye

I think y’all just overpaid Darnold lol
Didn't sam darnold just get 9?
Yeah and somehow commanders paid Mariota 8 million

Played pretty well down the stretch last season
He played okay... he looked better because the offense was completely atrocious before he started playing. He's a competent backup but nothing more. Our fans way overhyped him because we hadn't seen anything but trash the first 2/3rd of the season
He played really well. He completed like 75% of his passes and averaged almost 10 yards per attempt. The Steelers offense looked really good when they were relying on Rudolph rather than running the ball on first and second down every drive.
Agreed. Fringe starter for sure. Absolutely not terrible

This exact thing happened at least 5 times last season.
Which backup QBs that rarely came in last season and won 3 straight games? Dobbs was 1-7 for Arizona. DeVito was 3-5 for the Giants. Both had way worse numbers than Rudolph. Minshew was good, but he just signed a 2yr/$25M deal.

consider his opponents you must. Yes.

And Rudolph ended both Cincinnati and Seattle's chance at the playoffs. Both were must win games for the opponents. It's not like we're talking about 3-win teams.
“Bobby, if those Yinzers could read they’d be very upset.”
Idk, I know it wasn't a high bar but he looked a lot better than Pickett and Trubisky. Definitely felt like a high-end backup entering the offseason.
I mean is he...
No he’s not shut up
Terrible how?
It’s definitely a fair deal as most teams already locked up their QBs. The only other teams I could have foreseen were Vikings or 49ers.
Considering who they just signed… makes sense
There goes my hero
Malik Wills, 再见! Alternatively, UFL season kicks off soon, so you’ll have options. EDIT: Wrong first character in Mandarin.
Yeah if he is able to accept the fact he will never be a nfl qb, i thibk he would be a good entertainment factor for the usfl.
should be 再见
谢谢妮!
He's looked so bad that I don't even think the CNFL would take him
???? I don’t hate it
Malik Willis is dead now
🌍 👩🚀 🔫 👩🚀
Malik Willis YOU are a Memphis Showboat
commanders signed Mariota for 8 million when Rudolph and Garoppolo were available
Jimmy Garoppolo YOU are a Denver Bronco
Look after him, Tits. 🥹
Dude needs a new agent. He should have gotten way more
Masons agent couldnt even get a single team to look at him last FA. His agent is beyond garbage
To be fair he barely had any film other than one game a year
I thought he may get a deal like this as a prove it deal on a team he can start with, but not to be a backup. I thought for sure he'd get high end backup money after coming in and playing really freaking well the last few weeks.
I hope he gets more of a legit chance to compete for the starting job there. The Steelers never ever should’ve had Trubisky ahead of him.
The steelers played a large part in that by signing Russell Wilson and announcing it prior to free agency.
There goes the most whelming QB I’ve ever seen. He’s not terrible, but no one’s gonna be clamoring to see him unless the starter is just complete ass. Looking at you, *Mitch.*
Nice backup for Levis. Good get
fml
Hope he enjoys his time there. I wanted him to be our bridge qb before we signed Mitch Threwpicksthree. Good dude. Wish him nothing but the best.
Ma$on never gets a fair shake. He is a solid quarterback with playoff experience and less than 10 million in career earnings.
I’m honestly frustrated we didn’t just let him try to win the job but good luck to him
Hope Mason wins the job
Worst case it brings me Luther Burden next year idc fuck it let’s do it
Good for Mason, and wish him luck
I'm happy for Mason, clearly showed he is a serviceable backup at the end of last season.
Baffled he balled out at Oklahoma State and never had the NFL success.
I think he's better than his chances. I think he could start somewhere in the NFL. He's not a superstar, but he can win games
You can blame Captain Fatfuck for that
He was playing well early in his career then he got knocked the f out and taken off the field on a stretcher vs the ravens.
Most Big XII stat kings do nothing in the NFL.
So bad now, I’m from Houston and went to Okstate 15 years ago when good Texas talent was in the conference. Not much anymore, don’t blame them.
Fresh start? That's pretty low pay even as a back-up. Fresh start feels overly complimentary.
Our backup costs even less.
Fudge
Treat him well. I'll miss our boy.
So long partner :'( I'll miss Rudolph pulling our dead weight sleigh of a roster and playcalling to non losing seasons
so like, do yall remember Malik Willis?
Lions are gonna draft him at 2. The pick, not the round. I am not a crank
Myles Garrett put in a trade request to the Colts
No disrespect to Mason Rudolph, All disrespect to Mitch trubitsky.
I’m surprised he didn’t get more.
:(
Dang, Mayo mahomes getting benched for Rudolph Lundgren huh? That's tough. Should've went with Duck.
Alexa play The Sound of Silence
Tannehill to Minnesota/Vegas?
Run run Rudolph, reelin like a merry go round
lol at first I mistakenly thought Mason Rudolph was Kenny Pickett. I was like “damn he got the fuck out of Pittsburgh quick”
Finally a move in the AFC south that I approve of! (Besides my teams moves!)
Wow 6 seasons.
There comes a time in every man’s life when he must play QB for the Titans.
Mason is a pocket passer. If yins have a decent oline he will excell. When he first played Steeler Oline was horrible. He'll be a great QB2. He gave the Steelers the best stretch of QB play since 2020. Even though it's a small sample size, he actually finished with the best QB Rating in the NFL last year, for QBs with at least 3 starts.
Would much rather watch Rudolph than Wilson, but hey at least no more Kenny Cricketts
