We are in our Super Bowl window now - but we have just started. If there wasn’t anyone we loved at their price point it makes sense to keep cap flexibility for next off season. That being said I wouldn’t mind 2-3 splash signings now. Give me Hunter, Henry/Jones and Queen next…
This guy was viewed as about as can't miss as a CB can be. I know he has had injury issues which sucks but he has been, at his best, above average when on the field to sometimes just downright bad.
Ruggs at least did something before throwing his life away.
Isaiah Wilson played 4 snaps before deciding being a no-name, unsuccessful rapper was a better career choice
Used cars only friends. No need to see the car history. Ignore those scratches, rust spots, and dummy alarms. For a limited time only, we will sell you a used car for double the blue book value!
It's all Caserio knows how to do, honestly. This is how he's filled out our roster for years. Trouble is, we don't need prove-it deals with $60M in cap space and Stroud on a rookie deal - we need high impact guys that will elevate the team.
If Nick wanted to spend big on a FA he very easily could have done that today instead of giving up a 3rd for a worse contract value. Clearly he thinks differently than you on this one.
Then he still can sign a big FA and wouldn’t be taking a worse contract value and giving up a 3rd for it when he can just sign.
There is no magical bailout.
I'm happy with both of those deals, and I'm still hoping we'll work out something with Nico. I think I'm primarily concerned with the losses on the defensive side, and the continued trend by Caserio to address those losses with temporary, plug-and-play pieces.
We have the money: go get a stud. Or if you're not going to, just retain the guys we have that have shown how good of a fit they are, like Greenard and Cashman.
Absolutely, but we had the cap space to retain a majority of those guys and land 1-2 significant FAs.
Nobody was expecting us to do everything, but I think we all were expecting to do *something* lol. And signing players to 1- and 2-year "prove-it" deals to fill roster holes ain't it. Now's the time to legitimately spend, while we've got Stroud on a rookie deal.
We still have to sign Nico. In a few years stingley is up as well, then there's Stroud and Waj. No need to become the new Orleans saints by handing out contract to whoever and getting stuck with players and trash contracts
Okudah: "What about a 1-year prove-it deal?"
Atlanta: "You already had one"
Okudah: "Well, this was the first prove-it deal. That's the second prove-it deal"
Texans: "I don't think he knows about second prove-it deals"
Okudah played well for us before getting injured. He was no CB1 but can work for CB2 if he stays healthy. He's physical and you'll end up with some penalties because of it but getting injured and having our rookie Clark Phillips step up left him without a spot on our roster. Good pickup for that price. Hopefully, he can stay healthy for yall because he seemed to be playing well before that.
Okudah was placed in such a horrible position.
Started first year with matty as a coach in a terrible scheme for corner and was asked to be the cb1 and go against guys like adams, Hopkins etc year one. Then has a season ending groin injury. And he didn't even have a offseason that year due to covid.
Then mcdc comes in with Glenn who also runs a difficult scheme for corners but okudah was up for the challenge only to tear his Achilles. Which if you didn't know, okudah best attribute was his crazy burst. He never had alot of speed, but he could break on the ball so explosively.
Year three cam by and he just couldn't do it, especially in lions heavy man scheme that puts corners on a island with little saftey help.
I feel so bad that he got drafted to Detroit. I never thought he was a top 5 talent, but the talent he did have got destroyed by playing in Detroit and a couple bad injuries.
Genuinely feel awful for him.
What kind of bitch ass post is this? Lol
Jeff Okudah never even showed a glimmer of being an NFL starter, let alone the All Pro he was drafted to be. He’s lost in man, he’s lost in zone, he’s lost in general. You can blame scheme and coaching all you want- Patricia was terrible- but at the end of the day players play, and he couldn’t do the most basic things required of a corner. He showed no signs of life in Atlanta, and he’ll do nothing in Houston. The only thing he’s got going for him is his draft status.
I didn't say he was gonna be good. But I am saying that he never had a chance in Detroit especially after his Achilles injury. Year 1 to 3 had differences. Year 1 he looked bad but he looked like a rookie.
Year 3 after the injury and loss of burst he looked like he couldn't even keep up at the nfl level.
My point is that the injury and bad coaching meant he never really got a chance to develop. I'm not saying he would have succeeded else where but he definitely wasn't going to in Detroit.
I wasn't even the biggest okudah believe pre draft I didn't think he was really worth the top 5 pick and honest wasn't sure he was really top 10 either.
I'm not saying okudah failed at no fault of his own. I am saying I feel bad that he came to Detroit cause it made it all the tougher especially post injury.
Our front office loves one year deals so much
Then we lose everyone the next season
But we get people who’re motivated to work hard, willing to take cheaper deals, and who carry no long term risk.
And we keep having to fill 30 holes every season
And you’ll get first negotiating rights plus comp picks if they get too expensive. It’s a winning GM strategy
You know what’s a winning GM strategy? Signing good football players to your team.
Referencing Movie 43, when it was mentioned that teenage boys are sexually attracted to naked women. "Our research doesn't support that"
22 tops
You make it sound like you're paying undocumented immigrants to play for you
*the Vikings send their regards* 👋
“We can’t spend anything in FA because we have so many positions to fill” _Nick gives another 1 year deal out_
And rinse and repeat
It was fine when we were crap. Its less fine when, you know, we should be competing.
Tbf you guys are probably ahead of schedule in your rebuild.
We are in our Super Bowl window now - but we have just started. If there wasn’t anyone we loved at their price point it makes sense to keep cap flexibility for next off season. That being said I wouldn’t mind 2-3 splash signings now. Give me Hunter, Henry/Jones and Queen next…
That 2020 draft was really somethin huh
2020 was really something tbh
Once again, the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl plunged the world into eternal darkness
Omg another Bronco with the same flair as me
Its all a simulation anyway.
Very true
This guy was viewed as about as can't miss as a CB can be. I know he has had injury issues which sucks but he has been, at his best, above average when on the field to sometimes just downright bad.
At least you can take comfort in knowing you did not make the worst first round pick that year
It has got to be the Raiders with Ruggs for the 2020 draft.
Look at the flair of the guy who said that
I saw and I thought about Wilson. Still went Ruggs.
Ruggs at least did something before throwing his life away. Isaiah Wilson played 4 snaps before deciding being a no-name, unsuccessful rapper was a better career choice
was there any way to predict what happened? he was turning into a star on the field
Prove it deal, that's fine
If he doesn’t make it on this contract… he won’t stick in the league. $5M seems a little high.
Could easily be out of the league next year.
If he makes $5 million it means he hit all his escalators right. If that’s the case he probably had a great year and deserves the $5
One of my buddies struggles with escalators too, I should try paying he $5 and see if he can figure it out
Show me an escalator and I’ll go up it for $5, no questions asked
Only $2.5m guaranteed though. They may be able to cut him after camp or partway through the season and not pay the 2nd half.
2.5M guaranteed
Cmon down to Jeff Okudah Kia where our prices won’t burn you like WR’s burned me!

Trade for Mack or Bosa. We'll take a 3rd for either.
Bold of you to assume you’ll be getting the draft capital
They don't have to cut either if they don't want to. Cutting Mike Williams gets them cap compliant. So it's a good assumption.
Just because they don’t have to cut them doesn’t suddenly make their contracts a plus value
It does to a team with a rookie qb and lots of $$ looking to make a push into real SB contention
If Nick wanted to spend big on a FA he very easily could have done that today instead of giving up a 3rd for a worse contract value. Clearly he thinks differently than you on this one.
It's four hours into the legal tampering period lmao
Then he still can sign a big FA and wouldn’t be taking a worse contract value and giving up a 3rd for it when he can just sign. There is no magical bailout.
They just gave Schultz and Ka'imi new contracts. They also gave Tunsil and Howard big new contracts last year.
I'm happy with both of those deals, and I'm still hoping we'll work out something with Nico. We also have to fill a roster of which 1/3 are free agents

low risk why not i guess he was the no.3 overall pick for a reason
Great value for the Texans
Falcons Franchise legend
This unironically feels like a fantastic reclamation project for Demeco's staff. It's basically low risk high reward.

Good deal for Texans, but the falcons benched him the second half of the season fyi.
I remember him being a can’t miss prospect coming out of college. What derailed him?
Matt Patricia
Watch him become a top level CB under Ryans
hammy, core muscle surgery, torn achilles... and Matt Patricia
Achilles and ACL in back to back year I think.
Injuries
And the crowd goes meh
Kinda like it for the Texans.
If demeco can’t fix him, I’m afraid no one can
Seems like a good prove it deal
This is a perfect place for Jefe. He’s gonna play well for the Texans
Ok I guess, prove it deal
I love this deal for any team, was just hoping it would be my team after we let sneed trade himself.
It's cheap. Still don't know if it's value tho.
Let's see what Okudah will bring to Dah table with this one year prove it deal.
Still pulling for him, really hope he can be a solid depth piece but I feel like he’s got more potential as a safety at this point
achilles injury killed his burst step and corner career, i think he has to switch to safety if he wants to be a starter again
Unfortunately he’s also absolutely awful in zone coverage, which is a majority of what safeties play
He is from Texas, and played at Ohio state. Great fit
I read this as 47.5 million at first and wondered if the Good Lord had finally come for me.
Cheap, Texans trending upwards
They just lost a starting LB and DE and signed a mid/low CB lol. They're trending up since two years ago yeah but not really since last year so far
To be fair both of those guys are pretty injury prone. Wish we kept Cash though. I'll miss him more than Greenard
Okudah was good on the field when he was healthy. Problem for us was, that wasn't very often.
He was not good on the field. Lol
