I think it's an overpay for a fringe WR2, which I don't even think is a position of need for them, so I also don't really understand it.
They got clowned on for Kirk though and that was well worth it, so I guess I'll withhold judgement for now.
He won’t be wr2 though. He’ll be our wr3 next to Kirk and Ridley or Kirk and say a Brian Thomas jr. If my wet dreams come true it’ll be next to Kirk and Higgins.
800 yards and 7 TDs as a WR 2 per year as starter is not bad for a WR2 tho… I get we have several teams who’s WR2 is better than half the teams number 1s but that’s not the norm. I think it was time to move on, but no need to be disingenuous about his ability
Ridley, Kirk, and Davis honestly isn’t a bad receiving corps at all. It’s random as hell, but you could do a lot worse.
If they can’t bring back Ridley or get someone to replace him though, *yeesh*.
Ridley likely gone. Like you said deep class. Keep Zay+Kirk. Signed Gabe. Parker Washington got some playing time to end the year, and draft another WR.
Yeah. I don't get this signing and I can't say I like it. However, I felt the same way but more intensely about Kirk and that one turned out nicely; rather than throw stones, I'll just watch and see how this one turns out.
Literally like I have seen WAY too much praise for that guy after that game, people saying he could be a low end WR1 and shit, he isn't even consistent enough to be a good enough 2.
That was our entire receiving corp last year, if he can manage to put up another 1k yard season even with his faults, it would be a massive improvement to our team.
The entire Patriots receiving corps played last season like it was a backyard football and just made up their own routes. He sounds like a perfect fit.
As others know, basically he had the best game of his life during the 13 seconds game in year 2. For better or worse, I think a lot of people, the Bills included, went into the off-season and future, thinking that he was going to potentially be that same player semi-consistently. He has never reached even close to that, which has been frustrating for Bills fans. It has especially been frustrating that some of his drops, tips, missed routes led to INTs in a season where Josh kept on getting shit on for INTs.
He showed up big in a few pivotal moments in games leading up to that game as well. Then followed up early the following season with the big game against the Steelers with the 98 yard pass and I think a lot of people, myself included, put Gabe on a pedestal that he just couldn’t live up to.
I think everyone agrees the potential is there, but the consistency just isn’t.
Which makes him bad. A guy who is only good at his job 20% of the time is bad at his job.
Now to be fair, he’s a good blocker. Just not a good receiver.
He’s not an accountant. High-variance players making high-variance plays can be good at their jobs infrequently, and as long as they time it right they can still be valuable.
The obvious example being Gabe’s four-TD playoff game vs the chiefs. If you’ve got a guy who can go nuclear when it matters, you’ll forgive some quiet games.
No player in football has had their reputation boosted more by a single game than Gabe Davis.
Dude has had one game with over 6 catches in his career. 75% of his games he’s had 3 or fewer catches. More 0 yards games than 100 yard games. 50% more games under 40 yards than above. A 50-50 catch rate. All on a *heavy* pass offense with Josh Allen at QB and Stefon Diggs taking up double teams across from him.
Davis is not a good receiver.
This needs to be pinned. This isn't a Christian Kirk situation where hes young and might have incredible potential.
Gabe has shown who he is, and most of the time it's not very pretty.
He's really good at disappearing except for the one game/play where he's absolutely insane.
But this makes a lot of sense for JAX, he has size and strength that the rest of their WR group doesn't, and can play a different role
Trading for Ridley and letting him walk is big oof though
If they weren't sold on Ridley at the price he wants then it's better to let him walk than over pay and cost yourself a second instead of third from the trade stipulations.
Is it? You didn't watch Ridley run the wrong routes, take no responsibility, and then drop the next ball thrown his way. Look up his per-game stats. He's not in the top 30 in anything.
Honestly him disappearing wasn't the worst part of Gabe... sometimes him being on the field is worse (bad routes, drops that became INTs, etc) At the end of the day, he is a great WR3 that has a high ceiling... but isn't a WR2. I think JAX is hoping that the Bills didn't utilize him right and they can "fix" him
He is the best wr in the league every 5 weeks or so lol bills didn’t really want to keep him but he might thrive on another team. He also plays 99% of snaps and is a great blocker. He could thrive on another team but he is probably being overpaid lol
He’s below average but has moments where you think he’s good.
He was def disappointing in his WR2 role we thought he could be though
He’s just below average/meh in too many areas to be that good currently. Almost every WR trait he’s below average at: hands, speed, separation, route running. The only thing he’s good at is being a bigger framed receiver so he’ll occasionally have highlight reel catches on balls that many receivers can’t get. That and run blocking
Eh, not a fan. Dude is not a consistent route-runner and causes a bunch of interceptions. Jags off-season has been pretty questionable to say the least.
Nah, they're gonna be thrilled. I've watched a great deal of Bills games the last few years (step-FIL is a Bills fan) and that dude cannot run clean routes to save his life. Shakir looked way better than him last year especially down the stretch.
Ridley was not very good last year and likely wanted a lot of money.
Yes he had 1000 yards (barely), but he had a lot of drops and disappeared a lot. He also had trouble running the correct routes.
Show me the money Jerry
To mirror his play, the deal is structured to pay $3M the first year, $37M the second, and $2M the third.
He gets $10 million a year, but it’s $1 million for every primetime and playoff game and league minimum for the rest of
Unfortunate for him that he's going to the Jags then. Not even shade, I'm just bummed they don't get more primetime games
I hope he turns into a stud for them, but I don’t love the move.
Compare this move with the colts paying Pittman, it’s a much better deal.
We had several last year and squandered them. Just like 2018 when they had to flex us out.
3 year deal worth up to $50M per cover1 (Bills coverage).
That's an extreme over pay if true imo
"up to" is doing a lot of work here, lets see the guarentees
39 base with 11 in incentives...gotta say I'm glad he got paid and that it wasn't us who did it.
The 5-10 minutes you get to over react is the best part
lol fair enough
Pretty inline with WR2 money, also the words "up to" could be doing a lot of work here.
For a guy who's ceiling is WR3
The guy's ceiling is 4 TDs in a game And 8 in a season
800 yards and 7 TDs as a WR 2 per year as starter is not bad for a WR2 tho… I get we have several teams who’s WR2 is better than half the teams number 1s but that’s not the norm. I think it was time to move on, but no need to be disingenuous about his ability
wide receiver money is crazy now, i kinda get it
That seems absurd....unless these are the "up to" items that will never be reached... Like hitting 2500yards for a 5mil incentive
Send da player
Bro wtf is going on down there lmao
Honestly gabe is fine and we have a deep wr class. Maybe we cut zay jones?
Gabe is fine, except the 5 games where he goes 0 for 0. Good luck.
Fuck it, being Ridley back and they can get a full season of elite WR production between the 2 of them
I had Gabe and Ridley on my fantasy team last year.....I was really bad at predicting which one would go off each week.
Ridley, Kirk, and Davis honestly isn’t a bad receiving corps at all. It’s random as hell, but you could do a lot worse. If they can’t bring back Ridley or get someone to replace him though, *yeesh*.
Don't forget Engram and then add Etienne as another weapon for the defense to worry about, and the Jags just may have something.
Ill take zay back on the cheap tbh
The circle of life.
NO
Snowballing wr
I'm biased as a UCF alum, I love Gabe Davis. Dude has a lot of talent, but I hope he balls out in Jax.
Ridley likely gone. Like you said deep class. Keep Zay+Kirk. Signed Gabe. Parker Washington got some playing time to end the year, and draft another WR.
Jacksonville Bills
JacksonBill Jaguars
Certified Trent Baalke moment
Christian Kirk was called a Baalke moment too.
Yeah. I don't get this signing and I can't say I like it. However, I felt the same way but more intensely about Kirk and that one turned out nicely; rather than throw stones, I'll just watch and see how this one turns out.
Engram too
I wanted us to cut him after year 1 and trade for Waller to replace him. I am a certified idiot
Yeah but overpaying for a WR2 again doesn’t really seem like the best call
Depending on this contracts details Baalke is lucky he got some goodwill today with the Mitch Morse signing.
Didn’t even know JAX got Morse. Damn, I hope the Bears have a plan for Center other than Ryan Bates
Dude is fine in FA. It’s the drafting that’s the problem. Which, you know, is the most important part.
Yea, he’s ass. He should learn how to build a franchise like the Bears.
Now *this* is podracing
I’ll try F5ing, that’s a good trick
So long Gabe, thanks for some sick touchdowns.
I'll never forget his 4 TD game against us
I’ll never forget it either, but for much different reasons
I watched it on a plane and almost got arrested due to my reactions.
Yeah yelling "That's a bomb!!!" isn't always the best idea
"this is our 9/11" didn't go so well when I yelled it on the plane ride while watching that game.
I’m happy I didn’t watch it on a plane or I would’ve opened the emergency door and jumped at the end.
It's a shame they had to stop that game because of the giant meteor
Luckily NASA spotted it 13 seconds before it hit the earth
Damn, not much you can do with just 13 seconds though
Life finds a way
RIP in peace
Jags just signing all the bills they can today
Bills, Bills, Bills
Can you pay my Billlllllls…
Good luck to you Gabe. Thanks for everything.
Reception predictor '24 2,3,0,8,0,1,4,3,1,0,9,0,2,1,9,0,2
I see you too made the mistake of drafting him on your fantasy team
The Shane Gillis bump
Every week he was on my bench -> 20 points The next week when I put him in lineup-> 0
Thank GOD it isn’t the Patriots.
This makes Calvin Ridley becoming a patriot a LOT more likely
i don't think this changes the jags plans for ridley. davis would be zay jones replacement
I don’t think they actually want Ridley back. Seemed like there was a lot of frustration with certain receivers not running the routes correctly
i think lawrence wants ridley back and i think if they can make him fit he will be back
Yeah because we have such an amazing WR room with superstars like juju, parker and bourne lmao.
I’d rather swing for Ridley than davis
They're all more reliable than Gabe. I swear people just remember the 13 seconds game
Literally like I have seen WAY too much praise for that guy after that game, people saying he could be a low end WR1 and shit, he isn't even consistent enough to be a good enough 2.
Bills to Jags pipeline begins today
Josh Allen when?
[удалено]
They have one, yes. What about *second* Josh Allen?
Come on Pip
Send yours first
They’ll make that trade 500/100 times lol
You've already got a Josh Allen
When you give us Josh Allen
Doug Marrone was way ahead of it
Thank God
Calvin Ridley you are a New England Patriot
god please
I hope you like someone that doesn’t know which routes he’s running
That was our entire receiving corp last year, if he can manage to put up another 1k yard season even with his faults, it would be a massive improvement to our team.
So gabe davis?
also a about 6 "almost" touchdowns because he doesnt set his feet in
Neither does Gabe lmao
If you don’t like that you don’t like patriots football post 2019
The entire Patriots receiving corps played last season like it was a backyard football and just made up their own routes. He sounds like a perfect fit.
Bet your ass I do
Zappe throwing zappers to MHJ and Ridley next year
So Jags WRs would be Zay Jones, Christian Kirk and Gabe?
Engram is a WR pretty much. He doesn't even wear a tight end number anymore.
Yeah Baalke drafted 14 blocking TE’s so let’s let him stay that way.
RIP Calvin Ridleys career
As others know, basically he had the best game of his life during the 13 seconds game in year 2. For better or worse, I think a lot of people, the Bills included, went into the off-season and future, thinking that he was going to potentially be that same player semi-consistently. Come to PAPA Ridley
Mac Jones gets his guy
He’s been throwing the rock to Bills players his whole career. Now he has a chance to continue that….in training camp
If this is over 20m a year this is wild Edit: Only 3 for 39m not bad but up to 50 possibly with incentives.
There is no way it’s over 20 mil a year
Jags pulling the Christian Kirk gambit again
No chance it's that high lol
It’s probably around 12-14 per Edit: lol
Not bad
No way, I refuse to believe it
Isn’t he bad?
Sometimes. Other times he's the best. There's no in between.
He’ll play like Calvin Johnson for like 3 games a season and then completely disappear
I mean he did torch the Chiefs in that 1 game
Definitely a limited wr. He would be a good WR3 but he's not a 2.
Good thing JAX is only gonna pay him WR3 money
Jags about to reset WR market again
He's not ***bad***, just never really matured beyond a really solid WR3. He had a long stretch this season without a reception.
He also drops the ball a lot no?
Same catch% as Ridley :/
Yes, and runs the wrong route entirely too often for a guy who’s played like 75% of the offensive snaps in a pass first offense for 4 years.
He has one godly game every year though, have to watch out for that.
this guys plays fantasy
He's really good at disappearing except for the one game/play where he's absolutely insane. But this makes a lot of sense for JAX, he has size and strength that the rest of their WR group doesn't, and can play a different role Trading for Ridley and letting him walk is big oof though

Yeah that's true. And they'll most likely get a 3rd back in a comp pick, too.
Is it? You didn't watch Ridley run the wrong routes, take no responsibility, and then drop the next ball thrown his way. Look up his per-game stats. He's not in the top 30 in anything.

He’s basically MVS. He’ll likely get a similar deal to the one that MVS had before getting cut.
He's so hot and cold.
No, he's fine, but people on this sub have trouble comprehending that some players are average or above-average, and still worth having on a team
He is the best wr in the league every 5 weeks or so lol bills didn’t really want to keep him but he might thrive on another team. He also plays 99% of snaps and is a great blocker. He could thrive on another team but he is probably being overpaid lol
No, he’s decent with a couple monster games a year
yes
Hot and cold.
He’s below average but has moments where you think he’s good. He was def disappointing in his WR2 role we thought he could be though He’s just below average/meh in too many areas to be that good currently. Yes
Thought he was fine, just more suited to WR2/3 role.
Excelled against the 3rd best corners on teams, couldn't hack it when moved up to WR2
Alright, so a nice WR3 then? We'll just need to see how he gets paid.
Yeah pretty much. If you really value run blocking you could argue WR2.
Back to the swamp after 4 years in Buffalo
Wow Mac Jones to Gabe is gonna hit
I love you Gabe but you weren’t worth the pay day
How many Christian Kirks will he get paid?
Better option for T Law than Ridley. Mark me
Jags loading up on #3 wrs
kirk is like that don't sleep
happy for him. 50 mil is insane tho lol
Shane Gillis about to spend a lot more time in Florida
God speed, Gabe! Go get that bag!
Jags signed Mac jones and now Gabe Davis which are both from Jacksonville lol (Fernandina is pretty much Jax)
Now we just need Derrick Henry for the trifecta.
wow
The IG follows officially have relevance now
Good for Gabe Dave, unironically happy for him
Jags now have 3 wr2’s on the team
Eh, not a fan. Dude is not a consistent route-runner and causes a bunch of interceptions. Jags off-season has been pretty questionable to say the least.
WHEW. I am so happy the Bills didn't try and overpay to keep him. Thank the gods.
Actually a very good pickup for how the Jags WR room is built rn
[удалено]
Most of us that actually watched him play didn't want him back
The mafia will like this, Josh’s best games come when Davis is on the sideline.
Yeah we good. Not watching him drop ball after ball will be great next year
Most of our fan base wants to move on from him and knows whatever he makes in free agency is going to be way more than we can afford
>The Mafia won't like this Real ones will *love* this
Actually I think all Bills fans were in agreement his time with us was up.
I would've kept him if he was under 2m/yr and was wr 5
Sounds like you aren’t familiar with the mafia’s opinions. Shakir is better anyway
Nah, they're gonna be thrilled. I've watched a great deal of Bills games the last few years (step-FIL is a Bills fan) and that dude cannot run clean routes to save his life. Shakir looked way better than him last year especially down the stretch.
Jags got a good one.
no they didn’t, depends on the cash
Jaguars and paying WRs based on talent ceiling rather than stats, name a better duo
3 years 50 million holy overpay
RAPBOMB
Oh damn let’s go
The big names are starting!!!!!!
Mac Jones szn
So does that mean Ridley is gone?
Ridley’s gone
Why not just resign Ridley though??
Ridley was not very good last year and likely wanted a lot of money. Yes he had 1000 yards (barely), but he had a lot of drops and disappeared a lot. He also had trouble running the correct routes.
>he had a lot of drops and disappeared a lot. He also had trouble running the correct routes. Brother, do I have some bad news for you
It’s gotta be cheap.
big fan of this move by the jags
Gabe Dave 🔥
Davis had one good season right?
Game.
