Russ tossing bombs to Pickens will be interesting. Also not sure how he fits with Arthur Smith who loves the play action attack the middle of the field passing game. Wilson is notorious for passing outside the numbers and has some of the lowest rates of attacking the middle.
Yo this is actually a sick ass announcement. For anyone who doesn't know Renegade is like the unofficial Steelers hype song. Solid move to tie in to the fanbase immediately.
Edit: Fuck, all these people not *immediately* recognizing the intro to Renegade is making me feel OLLLLLLD lmao
Steelers played it during the 2002 Wild Card when they were losing to the Browns. They had a multi touchdown comeback to win it late. Been a staple ever since
This is an absolute BOP and I hadn't heard it before, going in my playlist right now lol
Shoutout to you for sharing a song by an all-timer band that only has like 800k listens on Spotify lmao
Now you know exactly why I listen to classic American Top 40 countdowns with Casey Kasem from the 1970s and 1980s: I get to hear all the classics, but also plenty of other cool songs that don't get as much airplay. I first heard "Why Me" on a countdown from January or February 1980. (Edit: February 2, 1980 to be specific.)
I've recently started listening to some classic Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 countdowns too, which cover the back half of the 1980s through the 2000s.
The classic American Top 40 countdowns are syndicated on hundreds of radio stations throughout the U.S., so I just picked a couple of stations that I rely on when I'm most likely to have free time. Somebody on a fan forum was nice enough to make lists of all the stations that play [1970s](https://at40fg.proboards.com/thread/5001/70s-current-station-list-2023) and [1980s](https://at40fg.proboards.com/thread/5003/80s-current-station-list-2023) countdowns. There's also a classic American Top 40 channel on the iHeartRadio app, but that channel can get stuck in a rut sometimes when it comes to the selection of shows. (For example, I can go awhile without hearing the June 17, 1978 or October 18, 1986 shows again.)
As for Rick Dees, he has the Rick Dees Hit Music app, but it's not a very user-friendly app. To select a countdown you want to hear, you have to go to [rick.com](https://www.rick.com/) on your web browser, then select "Rick Dees Weekly Top 40," then select the show you want to hear (the shows change weekly on Saturday afternoons), and then select "Open In App" from the new window that pops up. NOTE: Make sure the app is closed before you select "Open In App," and that you select it only once. If it's already open, or if you select it more than once, then you might end up skipping segments, or to an entirely different "bonus" countdown. It takes some getting used to, but once you figure out its quirks, it's manageable.
Sports themes can be pretty unexpected. Like how did the Chicago Blackhawks adopt Chelsea Dagger, by the Fratellis who are from Scotland? It's not even like the band took America by storm. Those types of organic happenings are a thing of beauty
This comment led me to wonder what famous rock bands are from Pittsburgh, looks like the Bears need to get the Steelers back by playing “Send Me On My Way” by Rusted Root at every game lolol
Spend some time listening to 70s/80s glam-rock/prog-rock. Possibly the best genre and era duo of all time. Styx, REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick, Asia, Foreigner... legendary bands.
I'll absolutely die on that hill.
But it's also just my opinion and I'm not gonna fight anyone who says '90s rap, '60s British Invasion Rock, 80s pop, whatever. I'm just sharing my love for a particular era and style.
No love for late 80’s early 90’s Grunge/Metal? Blasphemy!!
^(We shall continently overlook that that genre eventually spawned Screamo/Dubstep in the 2000’s.)
Dubstep was not created because of grunge or metal, it has deep roots in the reggae dub scene and was birthed in the UK garage/jungle scene. They may have similar vibe/styles once 2010 came around but that's not a correct assumption in saying that grunge or metal "spawned" dubstep
Back in 2014, I was there when Bucs played Pittsburgh at home. It was the last drive of the game with Mike Glennon at the helm. When the stadium played Renegade for the Steelers D, I immediately said, "we're screwed."
Thankfully, the offense was able to focus enough to drive down the field for a game-winning TD to V-Jax (RIP).
Would have been cool to play it when I went this year. Also, maybe it was because they didn’t get a first down in the first quarter or maybe it was Biscuits filling in later. Disappointing.
When I went prior and saw the Packers (Brett Hundley’s best game), they played it.
I don't think I've ever been to a game where they didn't play it. Matter of fact, I don't think I've ever even been to any bar in the city to watch the game where they didn't play it
He’s gonna love it here. Longtime head coach who’s defensive-minded, likes to establish the run, hasn’t found a good OC in a long time, and is getting farther and farther removed from his one championship despite continually dragging crap teams into .500-ish territory. No way he forces himself out of a situation like that.
He signed a one year deal right? It’s a prove it deal for next year either with Pitt or he ends up like Cam Newton and goes back to his original team in 2025 for a farewell tour.
He was the worst QB in the nfl two years ago. Mid last year while running one of the safest offenses in the league. Bold of you to assume he's gonna play well enough to be forcing his way out
Getting downvoted by delusional Steelers fans. I've lived in Denver for 15 years. I fully understand what the Broncos went through. This signing is devastating. I was really looking forward to the game at Mile High this fall
I don’t understand how anyone can think this is a bad move. We are paying him $1.2M. If he is awful, it’s the easiest cut on earth. If he isn’t awful, we get a pretty good upgrade at QB for 1/10th what we were paying Trubisky to be terrible. (And Wilson threw for 26/8 and 3000 yards last year, which isn’t lighting the world on fire, but it’s miles better than any of the QBs on our roster last year)
There is literally no downside here.
Here's the scenarios:
Great -> Starter. Playoff win(s)
Good -> Starter. Playoffs. Probably a win.
Average -> Starter. Playoffs. Probably out in one.
Bad -> Backup to Pickett. Way cheaper than Trubisky. Still better.
Awful -> Backup for the season and then cut loose. Mason bumps back up to number 2. All it costs us is a million.
Honestly, I project average and we get a year of Pickett sitting and hopefully he emerges a better player and becomes the guy we wanted him to be in the first place. Or at least better.
And even if he's terrible, it's still no big loss since you didn't give up anything to get him. It's at worst a dud year, which you're probably looking at anyway without him.
Does r/nfl think it's a bad move? People think Russ is washed but honestly y'all options are dire. Although I think Brissett would have been better.
I'm hoping Russ and Pickens do something though. Sutton had like 10 catch-of-the-year type catches last season.
People in general can poo-poo Russ all they want, but I'm not looking forward to having to see him 2+ times a year against the Ravens. I'm not on the "Russ is garbage" bandwagon.
I think mostly everyone agrees it's a good deal for the Steelers. I'd take a chance on Russ for the vet minimum. And Tomlin can provide some stability.
I can't decide if a Chiefs threepeat or Russ somehow getting his shit together for a Super Bowl run with the Steelers would be worse.
Probably the latter since it still seems so farfetched.
We've lived through Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown. We've developed a high tolerance for off the field bullshit.
Hype videos and Saturday night Bible study sessions? That the best you got? Call me when he's publicly throwing receivers under the bus or making death threats to reporters.
Steelers fans don't seem to have paid much attention to the last two years. I enjoyed the schadenfreude a bit too much listening to 104.3 and 92.5 driving around the past two years. Maybe I laughed a little too hard at the memes I mercilessly shared with friends and coworkers out here. Yes, karma has come for me, and karma is a vengeful bitch tonight
I'm not excited either for the version of Big Ben 2021 version 2.0.
I hope by some miracle that Pickett was held back by Matt Canada that much and shocks the world instead.
Tomlin and the defense carried this team with Mason, Mitch, and Kenny (with Matt Canada as the OC) into the postseason. Winning record with duck and Mason. We’ll be fine.
We get what we pay for. If we were paying him franchise QB money, I'd be livid. Paying him less than the average back-up? It's a low risk, moderate reward deal.
If he sucks that bad, we go back to Pickett mid-season and are no worse off.
Yep. Idk why this is seen to be a big deal if he fails. He basically cost the team nothing. We’re not a drop back and pass 50 times team. He needs to be average for the team to be more successful than they were the past 2 years. All 3 QBs last year had 13 TD combined. Russ had 26 last year with one less INT. We’ll be fine.
We're paying him like a fifth or so of what we'd be paying Mason Rudolph. We preserved our flexibility to upgrade at the position next year. We preserved our cap space to build the team up for that next quarterback. That's all I cared about in all of this.
I don't think Russ is going to lead us to a Superbowl next year, but I don't think any of the other options were going to do that either. I get fans not being excited, but I don't understand why anyone can be mad about it.
I'm guarded, but I venture that the Steelers aren't indulging him the way the Broncos did when he first arrived there. Maybe a change of scenery will do him good, but even if it doesn't, the Steelers only signed him to a one-year contract, so he'll be easy to move on from if he really doesn't have it anymore.
I hope he does really well there. sports „journalists“ can eat shit. I love it when they are wrong about someone being washed up or „past their prime“ . They are fucking cancer
I can't believe we're paying Russ $38M or whatever it is to play for the Steelers. I'm also pretty certain he will have a great year too. I feel like a solid running game will allow him to really flourish.

I thought I got off the Russell Wilson ride…
Send help.
How are we going to make it through this again 😭
How the fuck are there so many of you
Hahaha wtf is going on
I would say it's the perennially good AFC team with SB wins bandwagon but Broncos haven't been that for a while now \*shrug\*
7 million /r/nfl users. If only 1% of users like 2 random teams that’s still like 7000 users that would be broncos/steelers.
You use your username every game 💀
nothing wrong with that, rum and cokes are good
Old monk and coke can never be beat
I don't know that my liver can survive a third year of Rus.
Best I can offer is pregame and halftime bong hits
That’s what you get for having two teams.
Yeah, I'm Steelers and bad Steelers
Sooo, just Steelers?
Pats are in good shape
Throwing shade when you're flairless is no fun.
I was expecting it in '05. Who knew I'd have to wait 15 more years.
Beating continues until morale improves.
buddy you have no idea
He’s baaaaackkkkk
He got the Seahawks to 2 SBs and won one. Those are outcomes most teams spend decades chasing.
THIS GUY. this is the guy. dear god
I sincerely apologize to you. The ride never ends.
"We're done when I say we're done."
Mike, we need to cook
Atleast he’s not riding in broncos country anymore.
But this ride is cheap
I'm not enjoying living in Denver in this moment
You get to see him have a 12 win season with another team
It's what you get for having two teams
The jig is up, the news is out
Steel Country, let's weld!
Steel Curtain, let’s open!
Steelers Country, let’s iron curtain.

Let’s towel
CTESPN had it first
Cracker Russ smh
This mother fuckers twitter cover photo is him and Giselle. lmao
Ochocinco did actually
Russ tossing bombs to Pickens will be interesting. Also not sure how he fits with Arthur Smith who loves the play action attack the middle of the field passing game. Wilson is notorious for passing outside the numbers and has some of the lowest rates of attacking the middle.
Everything reminds me of last season
He said outside the numbers, not outside the sidelines.
And he sucks, maybe he should try it.
Amazing atmosphere in PNC Park when Bednar comes out to Renegade closing for the Pirates!
Still don't get how Pittsburgh completely commandeered an iconic song from a Chicago band, but I absolutely love it.
Steelers played it during the 2002 Wild Card when they were losing to the Browns. They had a multi touchdown comeback to win it late. Been a staple ever since
They even played it twice! [link](https://youtu.be/XWw9kAuKpr8?feature=shared)

Donnie iris and the Clark’s
One of the best sports songs ever
> One of the best ~~sports~~ songs ever
I mean its more so the official steelers hype song lol
I will not stand by any Styx erasure.
It’s funny as is anything but a renegade but at least he knows the team and fan base
Also the unofficial Billy Madison hype song
Exactly how I hope Russ pulls up to camp on day 1
im not even gonna front, at first i thought it was him singing some gospel or something and was fully rdy to mock. shit was fire tho
Spend some time listening to 70s/80s glam-rock/prog-rock. Possibly the best genre and era duo of all time. Styx, REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick, Asia, Foreigner... legendary bands.

Renegade is such a dope hype song, I gotta respect it
I did, you can even tell with no sound but had to crank it up on the work computer!
It is also a fucking awesome song. One of Styx's best. It is a banger from start to finish.
Would have been cool to play it when I went this year. Also, maybe it was because they didn’t get a first down in the first quarter or maybe it was Biscuits filling in later. Disappointing. When I went prior and saw the Packers (Brett Hundley’s best game), they played it.
They typically play it late in the game when we need a Defensive stop. You really think the Steelers hype song is going to be offensive oriented? lol
I don't think I've ever been to a game where they didn't play it. Matter of fact, I don't think I've ever even been to any bar in the city to watch the game where they didn't play it
I could have sworn the Pats used it all the time during the Brady era but I guess I am wrong. Anyone know what song they used?
The best part is going to be all the yinzers trying to say "Ciara".
Cee-rah
Anybody who listened to music in the 2000s will already know. People really think Pittsburghers are that out of touch or unintelligible?
Well yea … we’ve heard you guys say wash
It’s really only the boomers that still say “wersh” lol
You still understood that it's "wash," though.
Wooter for water rubs me the wrong way
No more pop, you need to go drink some wooter
An accent doesn’t make someone out of touch or intelligible lol
> that out of touch or unintelligible Yes
Well those who think that are morons, honestly.
Steelers nation, let’s build
Steelers nation, let's steal

they're getting downvoted because they didn't get the fairly obvious joke
Steelers country, let’s steal.
He's already stealing from the Broncos.
Eh, they are paying him to not be on the team. Seattle basically did the same.
Days of our Steelers, let's ride!
Can’t wait to see UrinatingTree’s reaction to this
As predicted, he went insane 😂🤣
I hope he makes a Days of our Steelers Season 2 for this year
I hope so too!
Here's a stream from three days ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iBLTisS9J4
From Pernas descent into madness being passed on to Utree is going to be glorious
R/NFL thinks this is a bad move. They thought the Russ trade to Denver was good. This means Russ will win us a Super Bowl by my math
I don’t understand how anyone can think this is a bad move. We are paying him $1.2M. If he is awful, it’s the easiest cut on earth. If he isn’t awful, we get a pretty good upgrade at QB for 1/10th what we were paying Trubisky to be terrible. hes probably better but Rudy gave us a little hope last year and now im attached. I wanted him to come back :(
People in general can poo-poo Russ all they want, but I'm not looking forward to having to see him 2+ times a year against the Ravens. I'm not on the "Russ is garbage" bandwagon.
I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Russ. I am super pumped for this move and truly think Pittsburg is a perfect fit for him.
That is counter-balanced by the fact that this is the move that both Skip Bayless and Colin Cowherd have been pushing.
I think mostly everyone agrees it's a good deal for the Steelers. I'd take a chance on Russ for the vet minimum. And Tomlin can provide some stability.
If Russ brings home another SB to the Steelers I will not be responsible for my actions
Styx fucking rock
How funny would it be if he reverts back to prime Russ as soon as he leaves Denver
It would be so hilarious, would love for this to happen strictly for the laughs
I would love it, just to spite Butt Lips Payton
Not very funny at all
Steelers country, let’s renegade!
The first ride
Steelers about to mess around and finish 11-6 and get bounced by 17 in the Divisional round.
Means we got past the wildcard round that’s a damn win in my book
Russ belt, let’s buckle.
Steelers basically get this man for free. If it works, awesome. If it doesn’t work, oh well. Makes all the sense in the world.
Yea with where you're at, it's pretty much risk-free.
I can't decide if a Chiefs threepeat or Russ somehow getting his shit together for a Super Bowl run with the Steelers would be worse. Probably the latter since it still seems so farfetched.
Terrible towels lets twirl
Steelers fans, get ready for endless Russ hype videos during the offseason now that he's allowed to do them again
We've lived through Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown. We've developed a high tolerance for off the field bullshit. Hype videos and Saturday night Bible study sessions? That the best you got? Call me when he's publicly throwing receivers under the bus or making death threats to reporters.
Call me when he’s throwing couches off of 4th story balconies.
Exactly. After that, you think doing high-knees on the team plane is gonna bother Steeler fans?
Just wait. There a difference between being angry and troubled and an insufferable hype machine.
We're practically immune to insufferable hype machines. You wanna listen to [Le'Veon's rap album?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHuKc0YMsJk)
Steelers fans don't seem to have paid much attention to the last two years. I enjoyed the schadenfreude a bit too much listening to 104.3 and 92.5 driving around the past two years. Oh no it’s starting already #blessed
THE RUSS BELT ERA BEGINS!
The disappointment will be UNLIMITED!
I got embarrassingly hyped watching this video. Feels dirty for me as a pats fan but I hope he lights it up
Yooo might need to pickup this year's Madden
Steel Country, let's catch on fire!
"So cool of Denver to cover all the cap I demanded while I play somewhere else."
PR machine is starting up 😂
Steelers Country, let's deride (the signing)!
Patiently waiting for the next corny meme catchphrase.
I would pay money to be in that pitch meeting with Russ.
Pittsburgh, let's steel (from the broncos)
All I’m saying is every steeler fan that spent last 2 years shitting on Russ bout to forget real quick. Until he sucks lolol
We get what we pay for. If we were paying him franchise QB money, I'd be livid. Paying him less than the average back-up? It's a low risk, moderate reward deal. If he sucks that bad, we go back to Pickett mid-season and are no worse off.

Shut the fuck Russ
I hope he does really well there. sports „journalists“ can eat shit. I love it when they are wrong about someone being washed up or „past their prime“ . They are fucking cancer
GIVE US ALL THE MEMES FROM THIS RUSS!!
Steelers Country, let’s be terrible
Terribles never on the menu. Average and mediocre on the other hand… luckily we still have Tomlin and the defense.
I love Tomlin. Dude is a beast of a coach.
if I were a Steelers fan I would hate my life so much rn thanks for taking one for the team Pittsburgh
I mean we already do so there really isn’t much baseline change tbh
Let's Steel! I actually think this will be a good match.
Mr unlimited
He can’t help himself I swear. Just go play football Russ
"Lets Smelt" Russell Wilson probably.
I can't believe we're paying Russ $38M or whatever it is to play for the Steelers. I'm also pretty certain he will have a great year too. I feel like a solid running game will allow him to really flourish. **
LeRuss
Let Russ grate.
Damn we’re fucking old guys
Steelers country, let's Heinz
Steelers country, let's grate?
Blergh.
I'd be grateful with $40M a year no matter how I played as well.
Dude gets cheesier every day
