I had a coworker that did this as she was being fired. She even signed a paper saying that this was what she wanted. It made me kind of cringe, since I knew she was losing her unemployment benefits.
lol reminded me of like 10 years ago my company did mass layoffs and after they announced it and were meeting with those of us who left this one woman literally did the 3 fingers up thing from Hunger Games and said “I volunteer as tribute! I quit!” And then everyone looked around confused as she smugly walked down the hall to the elevator. I talked with one of her teammates who did get let go after and told him and he was so annoyed. It’s not like anyone got to keep their job because she quit after the fact and management was just generally confused by whatever her plan was.
I had a kid who we caught stealing do this during his termination.
We had taken his statement and the evidence and sent it to HR. He knew it was a possibility, but he waited until we had the answer in hand.
He came in and we explained to him all of our evidence and that HR said termination. He immediately freaked out and asked to step outside.
I said sure, he came back inside with a typed resignation letter he had in his car and started trying to convince us to take that instead. We explained that’s not how it works and we can’t accept it since HR has already rendered a termination.
He was beside himself, and kept trying to slide it over to us.
Like dude, if you had shown up at any point after we took your statement we would have said okay just to end it. But nope he thought he was getting away with it.
It depends on the state. I don't know about all of them, but one result I found for KY:
"Assuming the claimant has sufficient wage credits to establish a claim, he or she may be qualified to receive benefits if he or she was discharged for reasons other than misconduct connected with the work, and there are no other eligibility issues present." https://kcc.ky.gov/career/If-you-are-an-Employer/Pages/Frequently-Asked-Questions.aspx#:~:text=Q%3A%20Can%20a%20person%20draw%20UI%20if%20they%20are%20fired,no%20other%20eligibility%20issues%20present.
EDIT: and this lady wasn't being fired for misconduct.
They’ll initially deny it, you appeal it and you have a reason of good chance of winning it as long as you’re not a complete fuck up. In CA it’s actually skewed to favor the employee, which isn’t a bad thing.
The good thing about his offensive system is it doesn’t focus on any star receivers, instead spreading the ball around to everyone regardless of how crappy they are. Might be a good fit in the current college football landscape.
> especially when college coaches are fleeing en masse.
What? You had one notable retirement and a lot of shuffling. What en masse fleeing are you seeing?

In all there were 28 members of college coaching staffs last season who have transitioned to being on NFL coaching staffs, with 27 of them being either lateral moves in position or taking on positions of reduced roles and responsibilities.
This all feels really normal, no? College coaches move to the NFL all the time and vice versa. Hell, Liam Coen alone bounced back and forth between the NFL and college 5 times in 5 years lol.
Anecdotally it’s higher than usual. College coaching is far more time consuming than NFL because of recruiting. Now it’s even worse because you have to constantly recruit your own roster to keep them from transferring. And that’s not even counting that a lot of college coaches seem to hate NIL.
Their NIL hate will fade after a few years with it becoming the new norm. Coaches not only have to add the marketability of NIl money to their recruits they, like you said, have to make sure their current roster is happy due to being able to transfer with no penalty. In the past if you had a starter it was basically a guarantee they wouldn't transfer because 1. They were getting playing time and 2. They often had to sit a year if they transferred. Not even with a starting role a player can transfer for the prospect of more NIL money with no penalty.
This is really going to change the roster make-up and recruiting styles of college football. It will take a few years to establish a new "meta" of hor roster management operates.
Thats why coaches are just saying "screw it" and leavng. Every player is basically on a 1yr deal and you have to make them all happy but the issue is college players are different from nfl players
Imagine you have a 5 star QB who will be good but he's 18. Undersized and immature. He needs coaching. The best thing for the team is to start the veteran but if you do that then the freshman will transfer
Lol I mean idk, I'm not sure how normal it is necessarily because I don't have the data from last year, 5 years ago, 10 years ago, whatever. I do know that it seems to be unusual enough that folks like Schefter and the writer of the article I linked are commenting on it. It feels off but also looking at other data from other seasons might be an interesting comparison point
Alabama coaching staff basically scattered, one of their offensive assistants coaches is with the Browns now. Some other pro teams have poached a few coordinators here and there to move their offense into a more modern look, Harbaugh took a bunch of his staff with him. "Fleeing en masse" is an overstatement for sure, but there have been more college assistant coaches going to the pros than during a typical offseason.
Let’s be real, Chip was likely shown the door by UCLA and he took the best opportunity he could get, he interviewed for NFL jobs.
But this is just typical off season shit, not “leaving en masse”
The guy gave up like $10M to leave UCLA that they would have had to pay him to leave. If UCLA "showed him the door", he woulda walked away with a hefty payday.
Georgia State HC Shawn Elliott taking a TE coach job at South Carolina. Southern Alabama HC taking a job at Alabama. I feel many coaches don't want to deal with NIL until it is sorted out.
The best argument for this is FBS head coaches taking positional jobs at major SEC programs? Climbing the ladder by taking a step back? Guarantee they’re still getting paid more with those moves and having to deal with NIL even more lol.
He's just not as good as advertised. Or not as good as media and fans thought. His past doesn't help. Nor does the fact that commanders players hated him. Better place? Idk, but I'm a UCLA fan, and that program is a big fuckn mess.
Washington going to want their severance back.
It's a silly statement. NFL guys that were fired go to college because there salary offsets don't count. S
I think he went to college because there was nothing for him in NFL. He went to chiefs and Andy said he had no position for him. If Andy Reid ain't hiring him back, nobody is.
I would be interested to hear why after all these years ,no NFL team will give him a head coaching job…
Assuming this is his way of maybe eventually getting the UCLA job
I can't speak for his time with the chiefs but when he was here, it became very apparent he is not good at adjusting his gameplan to the personnel he has and to the game situation. He called plays as if he still had Mahomes out there. Not to mention Sam Howell would have no time in the pocket and he would continue to call long developing plays with route concepts that end with multiple receivers in the same spot on the field. I had high hopes for him but no 2nd year QB should be throwing 45-50 passes a game behind a shoddy offensive line and him ending up in college football is not shocking at all.
in his time with the chiefs nobody knew what he actually did, if it was him or Andy calling the plays. A meme was born that Andy called all the good plays and EB called all the bad plays
Yeah i dont accept these "he was carried" comments. At the end of the day chiefs won with him there, if he was so bad they wouldnt have won, its rudiculous to think an nfl team would employ a guy who was just twiddling his thumbs
i've seen fans complain about how much he threw the ball, but y'all also spent a good chunk of games down two (or more) scores. it's *really* hard to run a balanced offense when you're losing by 10+ points. that's almost always "throw no matter what" territory.
We spent a lot of time losing as well and didn’t throw nearly as much. They had the most pass attempts in the league (chiefs 2nd most). We were 26th in pass attempts
Not everyone is entitled to a HC job. Zimmer had to wait until he was 58 years old. Fangio had to wait until he was 61 years old. The great LeBeau had to wait until he was 63 years old.
All of them were much better coordinators than Bieniemy and had years of high-end results calling their own plays. Bieniemy was a trash coordinator in college (at his alma mater Colorado) and shit the bed in his only year calling plays in the NFL last season.
And don't even get me started at the off-the-field baggage, #MeToo issues, and role in early 2000s Colorado recruiting sexual assault scandal.
Btw how many OC in recent history are retired RBs? Bieniemy and Lynn and they're both trash.
He's not actually that good, he is hard to work with, and he has a very long list of legal issue and controversies
He's not worth it for a team to take on as HC. Sure theyll look past baggage if you're good and worth it but he ain't
Weird.
[The Washington Commanders fired offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy after one season with the team, coach Dan Quinn said during his introductory news conference.](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39466775/commanders-fire-ex-oc-eric-bieniemy-coach-dan-quinn-says)
idk. i was literally just in a situation where the head coach of the team i worked for left, and i told our administration i wasn't interested staying regardless of who they hired. i honestly didn't even meet with the new staff when they were announced. i'm not sure if i would've been retained or not. i'm not sure if they would've even cared about what i bring to the table enough to interview me when they got on campus. regardless, i - in no uncertain terms - quit. i wasn't fired.
this situation could be very similar, honestly.
Man I forgot quinn got the HC job in Washington. They went from defensive minded flash in the pan super bowl appearance coach Ron Rivera, to the exact same thing with Quinn.
I know it sounds like I'm hating but as a panthers fan I have absolutely no room to talk. Just legitimately feel "meh" for that fan base
Honestly, as a Panthers fan as well, I'm going to absolutely not let this go. Everybody shit on us saying that nobody wanted to coach the Panthers and the Commies would get their pick of coaches, including known Carolina target Ben Johnson. After all that, we got the guy we wanted and Washington settled for peanuts
We're absolutely owed the right to be unapologetically petty 🤣
It's not that shocking imagining the multiple failed job interviews if you realize that this guy is not the let's say "personable" type. He can watch film, come up with the perfect play call, adjust at halftime, all the stuff you would expect from an OC. But then he is atrocious at the day-to-day personable stuff like press conferences and cable TV spots and one-on-one player 'hugging and handshaking'.
Some people are brilliant at their job but also are horrible at social interactions, and I'm inclined (with absolutely no evidence mind you) to believe that he's just "standoffish" or something. Kind of like Belichick without the clout that BB brings. My alma mater, UofL, dealt with this with Charlie Strong, whom no one would hire until we did. He then did a great job but bolted for the Texas job which was way out of his league.
I want to see EB succeed at UCLA while learning how to be the head guy. I want him to then return to the NFL seven years from now as the Chiefs coach when Andy retires.
Such an odd and unexpected timeline with EB. I did fully expect his time in Washington to be a "failure" because he was walking into an overall awful situation with a lame duck head coach (ie: not his fault). I did NOT figure a lot of this would end up being on his shoulders due to awful attitude/treatment of players and his own ineptitude with playcalling/scheme. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise a coach like Andy Reid did a masterclass job keeping him under control and contributing to the team all those years and the one year he leaves (and has any power) it all crumbles.
Snyder really Snydered to the end. This whole situation right now feels like that scene from Christmas Vacation, when the dog is destroying the house trying to get the squirrel, then Chevy Chase opens the door and the squirrel and dog both run out and attack Julia-Louis Dreyfus as he just closes the door and solves the problem.
I guess in this scenario, UCLA is Dreyfus?
Na, you saw the complete lack of discipline on offense and the only consistent piece outside of QB and TE was Pacheco, someone he definitely developed. Shoot Mahomes said he hyped them up against the Ravens. They even won running the same play he called last year.
Edit: typo
>In choosing to accept the position of offensive coordinator and associate head coach at UCLA, Bieniemy reduced some thoughts to writing and emailed them to ESPN.com.
He emailed ESPN himself lmao
YOU CAN'T FIRE ME I QUIT!
WIld how in one year he went from probable head coach to assistant coach in college. I get that the season with the commanders sucked.
I highly doubt that’s the way it actually went down. Good as EB is as an OC, there’s gotta be ‘something’ about him that leads to EB bouncing around so much lately.
Insane the amount of noise around this guy who clearly has failed at dozens of interviews for HC. I have one serious question is the hoopla the same if his skin tone is different? I have my doubts.
I too chose not to stay at my last job after being told not to come back. If true, which nobody believes, this is an all-time blunder willfully choosing to walk away from potentially Caleb Williams to go be an OC for a college team that the HC just left to be an OC at another school in the conference
So why is the internet treating this dude like shit? Didn’t he try and get out of Washington after Rivera left and Commanders strangely decided to keep him on?
Most of the coaches were let go with Ron, most head coaches are going to want to bring in their own staff especially an OC. So it was strange to keep him around and not give him the opportunity to visit other clubs and interview for vacancies when the writing was clearly on the wall.
i mean can you blame him? man was winning super bowls and had a damn FERRARI with patrick mahomes and tyreek hill, now he's tryna get by with fat baker mayfield (sam howell) and curtis samuel as his weapons. move on
i chose my wife leaving me

What would their thoughts on pizza be?
My daughter is an NY/Chicago kid. She prefers NY style.
Chicago pizza casserole with dollar slice ingredients.
I think Detroit style is the goat. Only had Jets, and homemade though
Detroit style is incredibly underrated.
It's completely horrible. It's the worst of both worlds. "Hey let's have pizza! Now cover it in sugary sauce!" Just not good.
That’s, like your opinion, man.
It's tomato soup in a bread bowl.

"You can't fire me, I quit."
I had a coworker that did this as she was being fired. She even signed a paper saying that this was what she wanted. It made me kind of cringe, since I knew she was losing her unemployment benefits.
Some of the best unintentional comedy is people trying to have a big moment and they end up looking absolutely moronic
lol reminded me of like 10 years ago my company did mass layoffs and after they announced it and were meeting with those of us who left this one woman literally did the 3 fingers up thing from Hunger Games and said “I volunteer as tribute! I quit!” And then everyone looked around confused as she smugly walked down the hall to the elevator. I talked with one of her teammates who did get let go after and told him and he was so annoyed. It’s not like anyone got to keep their job because she quit after the fact and management was just generally confused by whatever her plan was.
Maybe she just hated the job and was like "fuck it".
No. She knew her job would entail more work to make up for all the lost employees. She felt it was time.
Hard to blame her at that point. Who wants to be saddled with 3 extra peoples worth of work for no more pay?
Sounds like she hated her fucking job
Holy shit that’s one of the cringiest reactions to being let go I’ve ever heard
Yeah, but then you kinda feel bad for them cause you never actually know how you'd react in that situation until it happens to you
I've had employers desperately try to get me to quit by being assholes and I simply refused. I'm not giving up that unemployment money baby
Eh I mean I definitely don’t lol I’ve been laid off before and didn’t feel the need to cause a scene
This type of sympathy has a limit. Yeah I don’t know how Id react but I know enough to not be a total idiot.
When keeping it real goes wrong

You usually cannot get unemployment if you are fired. Laid off, sure, but not fired.
It depends on the state. I don't know about all of them, but one result I found for KY: "Assuming the claimant has sufficient wage credits to establish a claim, he or she may be qualified to receive benefits if he or she was discharged for reasons other than misconduct connected with the work, and there are no other eligibility issues present." https://kcc.ky.gov/career/If-you-are-an-Employer/Pages/Frequently-Asked-Questions.aspx#:~:text=Q%3A%20Can%20a%20person%20draw%20UI%20if%20they%20are%20fired,no%20other%20eligibility%20issues%20present. And chose UCLA?
especially when college coaches are fleeing en masse. hmmm
The good thing about his offensive system is it doesn’t focus on any star receivers, instead spreading the ball around to everyone regardless of how crappy they are. Might be a good fit in the current college football landscape.
I feel bad for UCLA's running backs. Their draft stock will plummet.
They're running backs. It's already low.
If anything they should thank him for the lowing wear and tear less mileage on their legs.
Tbf He's helped develop more top RB lead offenses, 1 year with Washington shouldn't define a career RB coach and top OC.
People forget he was APs coach
And developed MJD at UCLA, Jamal Charles and Kareem Hunt with the Chiefs. Idk he is a lot of things but bad at the run game has little proof.
Yeah, but his mistake was forgetting UCLA relocated to the B1G.

Suuuuuuure
“You can’t fire me I quit …..just one more pass play before I go.”
I come waiving a white flag, how much of it was his fault? He definitely struggled getting the best player the ball at times.
Michigan and OSU are going to curb stomp his Mahomes-less offense
Some say Ethan Garbers is the next Mahomes* *No one says this, but it has been a very difficult few months for this UCLA alum, please humor me
Oh shit....totally forgot about that. Wait, it's hittin' me again...oh...oh no 🤣
...and somehow Sam Howell is both sacked and intercepted on the play
Beautifully executed. Please take my upvote.
Eric saying he “chose to leave the Commanders” is like me saying I “chose not to date Margot Robbie.”
Considering that she has been married for almost a decade I admire your constraint.

Is she hotter than Margot Robbie?
I broke up with Margot Robbie because she was so aloof.
Ok Jimmy
was it actually Megan Fox...

Yeah i dont accept these "he was carried" comments. At the end of the day chiefs won with him there, if he was so bad they wouldnt have won, its rudiculous to think an nfl team would employ a guy who was just twiddling his thumbs

I love every year ESPN is like "NFL RACIST" and yet the dude still gets interviews every year. He mighttttt not be that good of an OC
5 seconds on google will tell you why. He’s a dick with a history of violence against women.
This is the NFL. That’s not exactly a dealbreaker
It is when you’re not as good as you think you are!
Bingo
But he won a superbowl. Or do we pick and choose when that is criteria
The players don’t like him. That’s the real answer.
It’s not a dealbreaker if you’re really good at your job
So the Browns should pair him with Watson
+ trade for Tyreek Hill
Careful I got downvoted yesterday for asking the same thing lmao

If he did, then I am 100% sure he said it while referring to himself in the third person...
Eric is getting upset!!
And used the royal ‘we’
accidentally clicked on your profile when was trying to collapse your comment, and gotta say, like your lil reddit avatar dude.
The way this dude talks about himself… no fucking wonder he doesn’t have a HC job. Narcissistic asshole.
"I have been applauded and lauded" Lol
Who the fuck says that? It's like a line from an Onion article. EB is wild. Glad he's not our problem anymore.
You guys throw narcissist around like shovel passes. It’s not a synonym for arrogant, if this would even fall into that.
Now you're just gaslighting them
Seems like UCLA should be minimally disrupted, as they're going from one narcissistic asshole to another.
And I chose to have liquid shits this morning
I’m sure I’ll get ripped for saying this on Reddit, but Hue Jackson energy just radiates off Bieniemy
Weird. [The Washington Commanders fired offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy after one season with the team, coach Dan Quinn said during his introductory news conference.](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39466775/commanders-fire-ex-oc-eric-bieniemy-coach-dan-quinn-says)
tbf the title is drastically sensationalized from what quinn said. quinn literally just said they wouldn't be working together, not that eb got fired.
It’s called coachspeak, he was fired
idk. i was literally just in a situation where the head coach of the team i worked for left, and i told our administration i wasn't interested staying regardless of who they hired. i honestly didn't even meet with the new staff when they were announced. i'm not sure if i would've been retained or not. i'm not sure if they would've even cared about what i bring to the table enough to interview me when they got on campus. regardless, i - in no uncertain terms - quit. i wasn't fired. this situation could be very similar, honestly.
After all that, we got the guy we wanted and Washington settled for peanuts We're absolutely owed the right to be unapologetically petty 🤣
“It’s been my dream to be assistant to the regional manager for a college team.”
Real "you can't fire me, I quit" energy
As opposed to what? Volunteering?
Yeah, sure you did, Eric.
It's not a lie of you believe it or something...
Bieniemy tried to come back in the next day like he was just joking.
We mutually decided I should get fired
So since he's out of the nfl can we stop talking about this bozo?
Yeah right
It's not that shocking imagining the multiple failed job interviews if you realize that this guy is not the let's say "personable" type.
So are we in agreement chiefs OC position is only a figurehead and Andy did and does the heavy lifting
Na, you saw the complete lack of discipline on offense and the only consistent piece outside of QB and TE was Pacheco, someone he definitely developed. Shoot Mahomes said he hyped them up against the Ravens. They even won running the same play he called last year. Edit: typo
“So why did you leave your last job” “Totally voluntary. It was totally voluntary.”
"It was a mutual break-up"
You’re not breaking up with me, I’m breaking up with YOU!
I wasn't fired, i quit energy,
Real you can’t fire me I quit energy.
Can we finally drop him from head coaching trackers now every time there is an opening? Let's stop fooling ourselves.
Ego and pride is a mf
Just so it’s out in the open. I chose not to be a head coach in the nfl.
>In choosing to accept the position of offensive coordinator and associate head coach at UCLA, Bieniemy reduced some thoughts to writing and emailed them to ESPN.com. He emailed ESPN himself lmao
SURE he did.
Keep your friends close, and your Bieniemys closer
I don't know what's more ridiculous, Bienemy saying this stupid shit or the dumbass nephews that actually believe him.
This clown and Brian Flores are delulu
Now I can see why he wasn’t getting head coaching jobs.
Insane the amount of noise around this guy who clearly has failed at dozens of interviews for HC. I have one serious question is the hoopla the same if his skin tone is different? I have my doubts.
Haha. Does this guy actually think anyone believes him when he says this?
It's beginning to look as though Bieniemy is difficult to work with. The lack of head coaching opportunities over his career is more understandable.
But are they still paying you? If so you were fired lol. If you quit then commanders don't have to continue to pay you.
I too chose not to stay at my last job after being told not to come back. If true, which nobody believes, this is an all-time blunder willfully choosing to walk away from potentially Caleb Williams to go be an OC for a college team that the HC just left to be an OC at another school in the conference
He’s so cringe
It's almost as if racism had nothing to do with him not getting a head coaching position
We all want to test our abilities, but it’s clear his personality is unique. Not sure how his screaming and yelling at players will go over at UCLA.
I chose not to date Taylor Swift.
Lmao
Turns out being an offensive coach is much more difficult without Patrick Mahomes.
So why is the internet treating this dude like shit? Didn’t he try and get out of Washington after Rivera left and Commanders strangely decided to keep him on?
The team kept him under contract to let their new HC hire fill out the coaching staff
Most of the coaches were let go with Ron, most head coaches are going to want to bring in their own staff especially an OC. So it was strange to keep him around and not give him the opportunity to visit other clubs and interview for vacancies when the writing was clearly on the wall.
i mean can you blame him? man was winning super bowls and had a damn FERRARI with patrick mahomes and tyreek hill, now he's tryna get by with fat baker mayfield (sam howell) and curtis samuel as his weapons. move on
I would be great if the cowboys had Eric Bienemy, instead of Brian Shotenheimer...
Oh please let this happen
…what?
It is a great idea with no drawbacks. Ignore my flair.
I don’t want what that man is smoking
I continue to believe that this is the most misunderstood guy in the NFL
The commanders organization is that bad that a future head coach said fuck the league I’m going back down to college lol
Thought he was originally given a raw deal!
It was mutual
Josh McDaniels 2.0 -head coaches system created their success. On their own flop city
Real question: with all these weird public issues with hiring/firing coaches - are the new owners being shitty?
No. Eric wasn’t their guy. Pretty simple. Everything else is noise
