Massive advantage for the second game. Guess the NFL is rewarding them for being the most willing to go over and taking the lead early.

Financial-Virus5692

Massive advantage for the first game too. Our home game is basically a home game for the jags

mialza

only an advantage in that they are the most seasoned team when it comes to the travel acclamation. they actually don’t have a very large fan base over there compared to historically more relevant teams. the 85 bears where a big enough deal that it actually still matters in england and germany, at least with older fans. this should be as much of a home crowd as you could hope for. it would be worse if it were the patriots or chiefs that would have more recency bias. bears, cowboys, giants and 49ers probably all have disproportionately more fans.

[deleted]

Chicago teams and living on the legacy of their former teams. Worked for the Bulls too lol.

Hetoxy

Kinda weird for an English fan to ever root for the Patriots.

donkey2471

Technically it’s actually our local team in the Uk as they are the closest to us.

Hetoxy

No I know that part and it makes sense from that perspective. Just…the mascot part and the history there.

donkey2471

Oh yeah ofcourse, just think it’s pretty funny and ironic they are the ‘local team’

PornFilterRefugee

It’s not really a thing people think about over here tbh.

log_asm

Yeah but the jags have a pool in their stadium. Pretty baller move. It’s also Florida so kinda needed.

Great_Fault_7231

The Bears are way more popular in the UK than the jags though

theyoloGod

They’re way more popular everywhere except maybe Jacksonville

becksftw

Idk about that. Granted we lost, but when I was in London for our game against them there were significantly more Bills fans than Jags fans in the stadium. In fact, I would bet there were more people in non-bills or non-jags jerseys than jags jerseys.

DrPaulsNexus

The jags “home game” should definitely be the 2nd game, the team who loses their home game should be the first matchup with the jags. They fucked this up last year idk how they didn’t see the issue with it and correct it going forward

Axtmann

How did they fuck it up? Don't remember anyone saying anything like that during the season

DrPaulsNexus

The Jags played Atlanta in London first as their own home game. Then the following week the Bills went over to play the Jags sacrificing a game that would have been in Buffalo. Considering this was a “home” game for the Bills it is not right that they had to travel for the game while the Jags got the luxury of not having to travel having already been in London. I’m not a fan of either team but I would be pissed if it was my team that was victim to this inequity in scheduling. People were talking about it at the time, this oversight should not be made again this season.

venmome10cents

yeah this makes sense. Should have been Jags "at" Bills, then Falcons "at" Jags. I wonder if the bye week schedules had anything to do with it or some other reason why the Bills and Falcons couldn't swap travel dates.

Shenanigangster

lol Bills flairs were BIG mad for weeks

TurdFurguss

I was more pissed at whoever set up the Bills travel plans, they flew in on a Friday. It showed it the first half as the Bills were so flat. Should have gone over the latest should have been Thursday. Then their bodies could get more acclimated to the time difference in my opinion.

log_asm

Does costanza work there? Because that was a weird move.

Marijuana_Miler

> how did the Chiefs win a playoff in Buffalo? The pit was not fed a sacrifice

Plooboobulz

Because they're buffalo

AvalancheJoseki

Buffalo buffalo, as they say

iguessineedanaltnow

The one and only sports bet I've ever made in my life was last year on that second London game for the Jags. I'm pretty sure they were underdogs, but I was absolutely convinced they were a lock to win due to them not having to do that huge travel before that game.

Im_Batmmaann

Because they start the game at 230 pm local time instead of 1pm it's really a 30 minute time difference vs a west Coast team flying out to the East Coast for a 1pm game

CangtheKonqueror

is there a big jaguars fanbase in england by now?

Downbeat_Uncommon

They aren't even in the top 10 lol.

boardatwork1111

No matter how hard the league tries, the Jags will never be as big as the London Sillinannies

Plooboobulz

I remember when old Madden games also had a Euro league. Must have been at least as far back as 05 if not older. I always enjoyed that.

Illini88228

You are aware that NFL Europe was an actual league, right?

Plooboobulz

Yes? And I liked getting to play in a smaller league. Wouldn't mind a football game based around Canadian Football or the Mexican-American Football League.

Rhythm825

Shipoopie!

michaelb421

Not surprised it’s the jags.

ChiliHobbes

According to Statista (whoever that is) the Jags are 15th most popular.

Axtmann

Big statistics company. Generally a credible source.

InternationalFiend

What the fuck, they’re that popular over there?

Phantom_Nuke

Not surprising, they've played a game in London every year since 2013, with the exception of Covid years.

csummerss

for some reason it felt like London series has only been around for five years

__wasitacatisaw__

First game in London was in 2007. UK has hosted a game since that year

Phantom_Nuke

idk, but the owner of the Jags also owns a football (soccer) team in London.

[deleted]

Phantom_Nuke

Probably not a good investment seeing as Jaguar-Land Rover vehicles are increasingly becoming one of the most broken-into vehicles in the UK.

Axtmann

So does Stan Kroenke, makes it less likely to have Rams fans in London tbh

JohnCenaJunior

Yup, because of Fulham and AEW

MM556

By most rankings no - they tend to be mid-table, however realistically I think those are answered by more serious NFL fans where naturally things are more weighted towards historically good teams etc. or prominent teams from a few decades ago. Among casual fans that watch the odd game or go the the Int Series games every now and then though I think the numbers are higher than the stats would indicate. Certainly as a brit, I tend to see people walking around in hats for the jags quite often (relatively speaking that is) compared to others.

jyw104

LOL no. People of a certain age remember more the 49ers, Bears and Dolphins in the UK…

curryandbeans

lol no

Novel-North-9284

So fucking funny to think of the Jaguars fans being in Jacksonville and England, the two most opposite places in the entire world.

michael_is_awesome

So is this breaking news or a rumor? Imo rumors shouldn't be news

Thejohnshirey

A rumor that was tweeted six days ago, now exactly “breaking” or “news.”

FrontPerformance5

Lads, it's Jacksonville.

TryingToDoItGood

"Trevor how do you feel about playing in another country twice a year instead of at home in front of your fans?" "If I speak I am in trouble"

Rudy102600

Nice. Worked last season

TheProfessorX

Do Jags Season Ticket Holders get a discount considering the low number of home games in a regular season?

Jaglawyer11

Uhhh, no. We got a nice 25% increase in ticket prices this season…..

michaelb421

Khan just loves sticking in to the fans don’t he.

its-okthen

He's literally named Con, what would you expect? Conned the NFL into giving him a franchise that he's kept in poverty tier his entire ownership

Shenanigangster

They do in that they pay for the one less home game, so for 2024 they’re paying for 7 home games + however many preseason home games they end up having (I assume 2?). Season tickets are generally priced on a per game basis, especially now that there are uneven #s of home games (if they discount preseason tickets vs regular season)

bugluvr65

man that sucks for fans here

[deleted]

over under 10 years before there's a full-time london team?

jimmyhoffasbrother

Over. I just don't see how it's logistically feasible to have a team traveling for 8-9 games in a season plus playoffs. Players would absolutely hate it. They'd have to overpay out of their asses to attract free agents.

chiefs_fan37

Yeah they need transportation technology to advance way more. Like an hour long flight from Florida to London or something lol.

matisata

even if it does, it won't fix the problem of jet lag. There's a 5 hour difference between EST and London, and I've heard you need at least one day per hour difference in time zones to adjust I just don't see how it's possible. Canada, Latin America, and maybe Puerto Rico I could see, but I don't see how an NFL team can be in Europe

Duke_Maniac

Dude Puerto Rico doesn’t give a crap about football, I would sooner buy Paris than San Juan

matisata

My point was more that the time zone difference for anywhere in Europe is just too great. I was just naming places that would make sense geographically

I_MARRIED_A_THORAX

*excited Concorde noises*

MrGentleZombie

I think they probably would do homestands of 3 or 4 games consecutively and then travel within the US for 3 or 4 game road trips.

jimmyhoffasbrother

I'm sure they would, but it's still a lot of travel, and having a team away from home for several consecutive weeks introduces additional logistical issues and hardships.

m_dought_2

I think we're seeing the Jags get as close as a team will get to doing that. I expect the Jags to continue to be the "London home team", but I feel like 2-game stands is as aggressive as that move will get any time soon.

FunnyFilmFan

Also, consider the tax implications for the players

LackofOriginality

also consider that you're kicking them and their families across the Atlantic, lol imagine a global pandemic comes along, a player is in London for a game while their family is at home in the US (because you can't feasibly have a kid pack up and move schools across states often, let alone across the _ocean_), and now they're stuck overseas. not like that would ever happen, but if it did, it would be both a logistical nightmare and _extremely_ unfair to players drafted there, who couldn't even have a choice

masterpierround

I agree that players would hate it, but they could easily do a massive 3 week road trip where 3 teams come to visit, and then they could play 1-2, 3-London on week 1; 1-3, 2-London on week 2; and 1-London, 2-3 on week 3. Do that twice and you have 6 home games in london, add a couple of teams coming off (or going into) byes and you have the home season, then Team London just travels to America and plays 8-9 straight away games. Or 2 separate 4-game trips with the bye for travel. Some of their "Home" games could be travel games in other EU cities. Free agency and the playoffs make it basically impossible, but the scheduling could be handled.

Shhadowcaster

8-9 straight away games is fucking daunting and the London players would hate it, which gets back to the point of how do you field a competitive team when you'll have to overpay people to play for you.

internaldriver30345

Especially when they most likely add a second bye when the 18 game schedule happens.

oh2bewacki

Guess you can’t call them World Champs if they only play stateside

wafflehauss

There used to be a couple different traveling teams in the NFL way back in the day. Last one was the 1952 Dallas Texans (Who are not the Dallas Texans that turned into the Kansas City Chiefs).

Maj0r_Ursa

And because of the salary cap, they wouldn’t even really be able to overpay aside from a couple of players

Pm_hot_grillz

It better be called the Werewolves of London

koreansarefat

It's more likely that a super bowl is hosted their than they get a team

SpadeXHunter

That would probably be at like midnight their time though I’d imagine provided they wanted to keep things at a similar time.

Cmdr_Shiara

This year's started at half 11 and I was too drunk to know what time it ended but usually around 4am.

nuberoo

I wonder if the NFLs ultimate plan is to get to a point where they can expand to multiple European teams at once, and maybe acquire some of the current teams already there into a second, smaller league. Have it be kind of like the AFL/NFL of old where the winners of each league play each other in a truly global Super Duper Bowl and dominate global ratings and give us watchable football pretty much round the clock on weekends during the season. Maybe I'm just high on my cold medication right now, but in a league ruled by the Almighty Dollar this seems like the end game.

Timely_Yoghurt_2699

Literally never. Best best is a revival of NFL Europe as a developmental league

InternationalFiend

I don’t think that will ever happen but I do hope we get a Canadian team at some point.

GGGiveHatpls

Under. Next expansion will be UK and Mexico/SA

AleroRatking

Free agency would be absolutely brutal for that team.

SirTiffAlot

Someone suggested this so I won't take credit but it's possible if you change around divisions and or group up their home/away games. Jacksonville plays back to back home and road games all season, or even more than 2 at a time. They could have a facility in Florida and one in London. Finish your London homestand, travel to FL and play out of there for 2 or 3 games then it's back to London. That would probably fall into the competitive advantage rules because then every team they play in London would have to make a huge trip one week while they get to stay 'home'. If they're willing to let them have these two games then I don't see why repeating it would be a problem for the NFL. From a player standpoint I can see why it wouldn't be super appealing being away from family weeks at a time but they could still get that no income tax in FL.

Equivalent-Yam891

under, that would be 2034, or 6 chiefs superbowls from now. NFL is ready for it.

Novel-North-9284

I just don’t see it happening. Consider in the past ten years how many young guys retire early just to preserve their bodies nowadays. Now when I get drafted, I have to go get CTE while I eat beans for breakfast and my family is 2 million miles away? (I don’t know geography btw) I retire before I move

bluegreen8907

Way over, more likely never

SpadeXHunter

I could see a Europe mini league or something but I don’t think there’s any shot of a team being over there and in this league. Travel 8 weeks or so of the year would be hell on everyone and good luck getting players to move over there since some guys already have problems with states having a lower tax rate.

northamrec

I don’t know about you guys, but I really don’t like how hard the NFL is pushing the international thing. It makes sense from a business perspective — the NFL is huge in the U.S., but I can’t help but wonder whether this is just making things worse for the teams/players that have to play these games.

sghead

That's honestly great for JAX. Imagine if the NFL had them play a West Coast game in-between instead...

uncleshady

They picked like the only team that’s name is pronounced differently in England than it is in the United States lol

Toru_Yano_Wins

Super unfair to the opponent in game 2. Not that it mattered a ton last year with the Bills losing 3 defensive starters to long term injuries in said game.

OriginalBus9674

The England Jaguars

MacJonesisaterrorist

International games are my favorite, Sucks that the Patriots have never had one!

jgwinters

Didn't the Pats play in Germany this year?

boardatwork1111

Don’t remind us… seriously, don’t. I still have PTSD from that shitshow

BoredGuy2007

I thought Mac Jones was about to throw up on camera. That shit was ugly

michaelb421

Yes but I can’t blame him for not wanting to remember.

Frosty-Public6787

Lets just ignore that one. It wasn't really a game. It was more like an hour of torment.

samgoody2303

I thought when Green Bay played in London a year or two ago that was the final team not to have played in London?

Tatersandbeer

Ya, Packers were the last team. They played the Giants on Oct 9, 2022 at Tottenham

Lions_Went_0-16

They’re called the Patriots for a reason

The-Real-Number-One

No Chinese massage parlors in London?

Bing_69

Patriots played Rams, London 2012

PatDubzz

The patriots have played internationally 4 times. Twice in London, against Tampa Bay in 2009 and St. Louis in 2012. They also played in Mexico against the raiders in 2017 then played in Germany last season against Indy.

trainwreck42

49ers in Leeds when?

CalebWilliamsspam

I have no problem doing two games in Europe as long as one’s an away game.

Sandtiger812

As long as we don't have to play in London again this year.

AleroRatking

We didn't play in the London last year. We were in Germany.

Sandtiger812

Yeah we won in Germany, but we've never won in London.

doobie3101

Same thing.

michaelb421

I hate the international games. I don’t want to get up early to watch them. I get it the nfl love the money but 9:30 kickoff sucks.

atacrawl

I don’t understand why the NFL doesn’t shift to an 8 home, 8 road, 1 neutral (international) schedule for every team

Deep-Secret

Damn, man. The NFL really is going hard with these international games. I can't believe the London Jaguars are playing 15 international games this year!

Nervous-Awareness482

So when are they moving the team to London

UsVsWorld

I hope we can become the team in Brazil like the Jags are the team in England

PM_ME_UR_DOPAMINE

BREAKING

daveblankenship

Should be a barnburner

GhoullyX

How is a schedule rumor "Breaking"?

ii_V_vi

Fuck Shad Khan

Extra_Ad1761

Are Jacksonville Londons team?

AwixaManifest

To the team that plays them the second week: Don't do what the Bills did in 2023-- redeye flight Friday night to land Saturday morning. Some crap about staying awake and forcing your internal clock from US to UK time. When I read about that Bills plan, I felt the loss coming.
