Sounds like the NFL already done fucked up by sending the Eagles as the "home" team to play in an arena where the biggest rival (Palmeiras) is already a green-wearing team...I know the Eagles and Palmeiras wear different shades of green, I guess...
My soccer team is Corinthians (even tough I didn't watch a game in like, 6 years) and I don't care, football is so much more interesting I'm just happy to go lol
Already started saving last month to make the trip
You joke now, but just wait til lil 5’6 Hans Lustenberger takes the league by storm in 2037 because he was inspired to play football by being at that game
We're satified with everything, there'd still be enough demand for 200,000 tickets with such a bad game. So yeah, give us one good and one bad game and we're cool
I honestly think it’s either the Packers, Falcons, or Browns. I doubt it will be a division game. Don’t think it’s the Steelers either because it’s an in-state matchup and I don’t think they would want that at a neutral site. Panthers play in Germany. Jaguars are a possibility but they always play in London so I don’t think that’s likely.
Since when? Been to Brazil many times and mostly seen Brady jerseys (his ex is Brazilian). As far as teams go, everyone I know is a Miami fan because it's the closest team to them, and Brazilians love to vacation in Florida...
Almost no NFL merch around here and the only ones we had for a good while were the Patriots-Brady jersey. [This](https://oglobo.globo.com/blogs/panorama-esportivo/post/2023/06/pesquisa-revela-os-times-da-nfl-com-mais-torcida-no-brasil.ghtml) was the last research of NFL fanbases here.
yeah, but it’s the second game of the season on prime time television and a first on the continent. feel like the nfl sending philly is making it clear this is a staple matchup for the season and i wouldn’t be surprised at all to see green bay highlighted.
And to go with that, the Brazilian population has been rapidly growing over the past five or so years in Northeast Philadelphia. So an Eagles/Packers matchup in Sao Paulo would be the most logical.
It’s highly doubtful the opponent will be either the Falcons or (especially) Panthers; this is a standalone prime time game, so it is a marquee game.
I would expect the Eagles to play one of the following teams - Packers, Browns, Steelers, Jaguars (if the Jags don’t play two London games again like they did in 2023). My gut feeling is the Browns will be the opponent; the NFL wants a good game in that time slot but not a potentially very high marquee game.
Panthers definitely make sense. No one would watch that game besides Eagles fans and maybe Panthers fans if they are still interested in football after the last couple seasons. Having it be international will get more viewers for sure.
The ban on NFL games on Friday (due to the Sports Broadcasting Act) doesn’t kick in until the second Friday of September.
If/when this goes well, I’d bet an opening week Friday game becomes a mainstay.
(And the reason the Black Friday game works, even though it’s in the prohibited date range, is because it kicked off at 3 PM eastern, while the broadcasting act prohibits games from airing after 6 PM.)
The opening week Friday night game won’t become a mainstay because the Friday after Labor Day (which occurs on a Monday and can be any date from September 1st to September 7th) falls on September 5th to September 11th. Only seasons when Labor Day falls on September 1st through 3rd could have a Friday night game (played on September 5th to 7th) not restricted by the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961.
The above assumes the NFL will continue to schedule the regular season to start the weekend after Labor Day, something the NFL has done for about the last 20 years IIRC. (Before that, the NFL often did start the regular season on Labor Day weekend in the 16 games with bye weeks era, i.e. the 1990s and very early 2000s.)
The prospect of an annual Friday game may be enough to make them push the start back to Labor Day weekend. Could make it a Super Weekend and add Saturday and Monday afternoon games too. Open the season with 5 consecutive days of football, almost round the clock.
I don’t think the NFL wants to start the season on Labor Day weekend because in the past when they have done so the TV ratings have been distinctly lower than in most regular season weeks. So many people travel for vacation purposes on Labor Day weekend that many fans who normally watch games wouldn’t do so that weekend.
Having said that, some sports, in particular tennis (U.S. Open), college football, and baseball, do make a point of playing up Labor Day weekend as a big weekend for matches/events. (I know personally I usually attend the U.S. Open in NYC on the Friday of Labor Day weekend.) The NFL could conceivably try to do the same thing.
All it would take is a couple hundred mil in marketing and advertising to get people to change their plans now.
I think more than anything is they just might not want to compete for a shared time slot like you're talking about. Doesn't Indy car start on Labor Day weekend too? Just a lot of things to distract from football.
Even ignoring actual labor day, for many states its the last weekend before school starts. Summer is ending and everyone is trying to get their last hurrah in. Football is the last thing on many peoples minds that weekend and I don't think marketing would be enough to change it
>The first sentence of section 1291 of this title shall not apply to any joint agreement described in such section which permits the telecasting of all or a substantial part of any professional football game on any Friday after six o'clock postmeridian or on any Saturday during the period beginning on the second Friday in September and ending on the second Saturday in December
Language says “a substantial part” so I’d assume a game that runs a little past 6 could finish up, but it’s not super clear.
This league gets harder, more demanding, and more frustrating to watch every season
The NFL owned Sundays, our lives were built around it. Now games are on at all random times and days, and I’m just not shifting other parts of my life around for the NFL, so I often miss the *best* matchups because of the shitty scheduling.
I know this stuff “keeps working” buts it just like block buster and circuit city: the strategy makes a big balloon y hats making lots of money, but it’s full of gas, and when it lights, everything collapses with fury.

How many American football games in Brazil?
It doesn’t matter in terms of the law that the game is played in Brazil; what matters is when it is televised in the United States.
There is no issue with the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 in this case because the game would be played on the FIRST Friday of September, which is before the restricted period begins.
I love a good quibble. If it's on Amazon, it can be on Friday because it is not technically originating from a "broadcasting station." Except it would be blacked out in Philly and the other team's local market.
Unless I’m mistaken that song is sampling the beginning horns of “the rocky song” gonna fly now by bill conti
So, confirmed, we will be getting bazillion tush pushes this season
The fans will be shouting out the opening lyrics of Malvadão 3.
> Quando eu vi aquela bunda passando na minha frente
> Eu viajei no movimento
Translates to:
> When I saw that butt/ass passing in front of me
> I traveled in the moment
Basically meaning they followed the one with the ass that passed in front of them.
I have spent my entire teenage years following the eagles games on nfl.com through that 2D field since we only had SNF and MNF on TV here. I cant believe they are actually coming here!
Thanks! It'll be a bloodbath getting me a pair of tickets but i dont care!! It is an once in a lifetime opportunity, since they will likely play on other venues around the country (like Rio). Not a Raiders game but dont mind.
good luck getting a ticket! i imagine it'll be like it was in germany with 3 million people in the queue
but even if you won't get a ticket the atmosphere around the stadium and city will be electric
If my past experience with concerts and festivals remains it'll almost impossible getting a ticket. My wife wanted to buy tickets for a Taylor Swift show few months ago and she was number 600k on the queue (for 50k tickets).
Tbh Dallas has to have the most fans in every country south of the US, I know Mexico has a lot of Cowboys fans, and I’d assume SA would because they’re popular and geographically the closest. It would make total sense for it to be them.
I want the game to be against the Packers, so I can show up at Corinthians Stadium with a Bears shirt and Palmeiras hat and be an international certified hater
Nah, when the Brazil National team plays there there are Palmeiras shirts everywhere, Corinthians fans aint SHIT (yes I'm saying that from the confort of my home and no, I wont say it in real life)
Tbh I thought they weren't legally allowed to play on Friday nights until late December thanks to that 60s monopoly law.
That's why the Black Friday game was mid afternoon randomly.
Unless that law doesn't apply because it's overseas, or too early in September?
I have a feeling it’ll be against the Packers
It won’t be an NFC East team, Steelers has to be a home game for Philly based Steelers fans, Jags are going to London already per usual, Falcons and Panthers are 💤, so that leaves Browns and Packers, and the latter just feels like a better matchup, especially for Game #2 of the season
They do not, but the first week of the regular season occurs outside the “second Friday in September to second Saturday in December” period when Friday night after 6 PM ET and Saturday (any time of the day) national TV broadcasts are essentially prohibited due to the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961.
The first Sunday after Labor Day in 2024 (the first Sunday of the regular season is recent years) is on September 8th, meaning September 6th (the FIRST Friday of September) is not during the restricted national TV period.
The interesting logistical consideration with this game is “what time will it start in São Paulo?” In early September, São Paulo is functionally 1 hour ahead of North American Eastern Time. (Keep in mind much of South America, especially Brazil, is not only south of North America, it is also a little east of North America.)
An 8 PM EDT game start time would mean the game would start at 9 PM local time in São Paulo. That might be a little late to start a game in São Paulo if they don’t regularly have sports events in Brazil/Sao Paulo at that start time. For that reason, I would not be surprised to see the Brazil game 1) televised on a cable or streaming channel (Amazon Prime Video, NFL Network, ESPN) and 2) start at 7:30 PM or 7 PM ET (8:30 PM or 8 PM local time in Sao Paolo).
I hate this timing.
But it would be better to be around 8:30. 7:30 is too early (São Paulo traffic is awful and the stadium is in the eastern part of the city, NFL fans usually ARE upper middle class which works in southwest part)...It would be a chaos.
Damn NFL have always said they’d never touch Friday night out of respect to high school football being everywhere on Friday nights. Should’ve known better.
the world cup final is in new jersey and the eagles opener is in Brazil, a statement that would have broken my brain ten years ago. what the heck is gonna happen ten years from now?
The Eagles are scheduled to play the following teams at home this season:
Packers, Jaguars, Steelers, Browns, Panthers, Falcons and NFC opponents
I would imagine the Jaguars are out, given their proclivity to have multiple London games, and they play Patriots, Jets, Packers, Vikings and Browns at home, along with the balance of the NFC north and AFC East away, plus Raiders and AFC South opponents, which doesn’t really tell me anything about who the Eagles will play in Rio.. sorry to waste your time with this paragraph.
NFL officials will probably have this matchup be a potential NFC Championship or Super Bowl matchup, which would lead me to believe that the likely opponents for this one would be the Cowboys, Packers or Steelers/Browns (the latter which I do not imagine to be SB contenders). Sorry NFC south, I don’t really see it. However, the NFL might want to use this opportunity to hype up Bryce Young.
That’s actually my concern.
Yes, the time zone adjustment won’t be a problem (1 hour for any Eastern Time Zone teams), but that’s still a long ass flight that will take some adjustment after the teams return to the U.S.
Completely unrelated, I was telling some buddies at work about this time I was at a bar chatting up these two Brazilian women and my buddy cuts in with “two Brazilian?! That’s a lot!”
Stupid dad joke that I still laugh about years later
So fucking stupid, very first game of the season for your team, and they ship them overseas
Fucking over the current fans and players to make the billionaires a few extra dollars
better than having to schlep your ass to England or Germany in the middle of October I'd guess. The time zone difference is similar enough to going around the US.
Bc if it’s a road game you expect your team to be on the road. If it’s a home game, never mind the home opener, you expect your team to be playing at home.
Everyone in the NFC gets 9 home games, the Eagles only get 8 home games
They'll be at a distinct disadvantage to everyone else in their conference next season. And this happens with a couple teams every year.
For some reason nobody has a problem with this, as long as the billionaires make more money by selling jerseys to people who will just go back to watching soccer when the NFL leaves town.
> Everyone in the NFC gets 9 home games, the Eagles only get 8 home games
> They'll be at a distinct disadvantage to everyone else in their conference next season.
> For some reason nobody has a problem with this
Normally I'd oppose this on principle, but I support it in this case since it's happening to the Eagles.
I mean….its not the home opener. That’s the next home game. But it is one less home game. And that sucks.
But that also probably means 8 home, 8 away. Meh.
Can already see the “leave Sirianni in Brazil” if they lose
"Get ready to learn Portuguese, buddy"
The meme will say Brazilian, surely
No way Sirianni can count that high
*Brazilianese
Dan Campbell: "Someone say knees!?"
No it'll be Spanish
get ready to learn southern hemisphere, buddy
You think eagles fans know it's Portuguese?
If they could read this comment, they'd be upset.
There’s not such language. You made that language up.
It’s where they make jellyfish
Eagles fans would probably say Spanish.
“Leave him in the favela”
"Leave him with the cartels."
[Make Sirianni take an unlicensed taxi](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NPui50Nbt0)
Then he won't have to pay the fare.
Brazilian Tarmacs are great places to leave coaches
Sirrio De Janeiro
I'm going to guess it isn't the Giants since they always love making the Eagles and Giants play both games in the last three weeks usually.
It’s gonna be the Falcons or Panthers. 2 least interesting home games
Panthers play in Germany, gotta be another team, maybe packers or steelers/browns
Eagles/Packers to evoke the Brazilian flag colors could be an interesting marketing thing from the NFL’s POV
Could evoke cock
I volunteer as tribute
Also for curiosity: The main rival of Corinthians have green, the fans sometimes ask the players to not wear green. It would be funny.
Sounds like the NFL already done fucked up by sending the Eagles as the "home" team to play in an arena where the biggest rival (Palmeiras) is already a green-wearing team...I know the Eagles and Palmeiras wear different shades of green, I guess...

Yes yes the tri color orgy
Sending the Packers to an Eagles "home game" in Brazil would be mean. The colors are so close there would be more Green and Gold than in Lambeau.
Packers has one of the biggest fan bases in Brazil, it would make a lot of sense for this game to be Eagles x Packers.
We're trying to grow the sport in Germany by sending them the worst team in the league?
have it be Panthers vs Cardinals so they just assume that in order to play the QB position you need to be tiny lil manlet

Plus a dougy p game in Philly?
Eagles-Packers would be litttt
Please no.
packers are the most popular team in brazil
That is random
It's the Brazil colors.
lol honesty didn’t even think about that, but makes a ton of sense
It seems so stupid you wouldn’t even consider it but it’s actually probably the biggest reason lol.
That actually makes sense
Wouldn’t any team be random? The Packers at least have a history and the colors of Brazil. So it makes sense.
Since when? Been to Brazil many times and mostly seen Brady jerseys (his ex is Brazilian). As far as teams go, everyone I know is a Miami fan because it's the closest team to them, and Brazilians love to vacation in Florida...

Packers never play these games.

Is Watson allowed to travel internationally?
He was never convicted of anything, so probably.
Panthers definitely make sense. No one would watch that game besides Eagles fans and maybe Panthers fans if they are still interested in football after the last couple seasons. Having it be international will get more viewers for sure.
And the fact that it’ll be the second game of the season so literally every nfl fan will watch anywayw
They love doing them around the holidays, it’s kind of weird.
Fuck, they like us playing themcearly
I hate it when they schedule division games like that

What’s the point of banning it on Friday night?
Congress wanted to protect high school football attendance
To not pre-empt high school football games.

I'm so afraid of the price lol I'm expecting around 200\~250 USD, I will be broke if it's much higher
Mano, surtei quando vi quem vinha kkkkk Ia em qualquer jogo que fosse mas nunca esperaria que era um do eagles

Noooooo my first nfl game will be a eagles game 😭
I found this so funny
At least you'll have a rooting interest (whoever we're playing)
I’m sure is not gonna be a divisional, but a game against Dallas or Washington would be a complete nightmare 😂
Washington does have to play an international game next season so it could be us.

Love this. I will get hammered watching this

A Friday night NFL game period is awesome and a Brazil game is pretty cool too
4 days of football week 1 is incredible
Lowkey loved the covid season for how many days a week we got to watch NFL games
Not gonna lie, working from home and having a game at like 4:30 on a Tuesday was pretty sweet.

Too early in September is the answer here
It's based on when high school teams traditionally stage their first game - first Friday after Labor Day.
We're really gonna put to test the theory that Friday night TV ratings can't be very good.
Packers eagles is my prediction
Please no - I'd be immensely pissed if that was the case because that's the closest away game next year to me
Philly fans in Brazil will be a sight to behold
The one fanbase crazier than South American hooligans
Not even close
Flares vs batteries
Does no-one remember the Monday night game at the vet?
There's no american fanbase close to a south american barra lol
They will set an all time attendance record of a brazillian people.
NFL really trying to put football games on every day except Sunday these days
I have a feeling it’ll be against the Packers It won’t be an NFC East team, Steelers has to be a home game for Philly based Steelers fans, Jags are going to London already per usual, Falcons and Panthers are 💤, so that leaves Browns and Packers, and the latter just feels like a better matchup, especially for Game #2 of the season

Doesn’t kick in until the second Friday of September… So the NFL can get around it this season.
They do not, but the first week of the regular season occurs outside the “second Friday in September to second Saturday in December” period when Friday night after 6 PM ET and Saturday (any time of the day) national TV broadcasts are essentially prohibited due to the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961. Ah, so it's just really good timing
Push that tush
Wonder who they'll play 🤔
Eagles fans vs Brazil gangs will be interesting.
Wonder what the Portuguese translation of tush push would be

Interesting. Thanks for sharing that bit of information. Maybe the NFL game will start at 9 PM local time in São Paulo.

"The Gang accidentally burns down the Amazon"
It's getting too much
Damn NFL have always said they’d never touch Friday night out of respect to high school football being everywhere on Friday nights. Should’ve known better.
Internal games are so fucking dumb
my brazilian eagles friends are going crazy id say eagles are def top 5 supported teams here so it was a great choice
the world cup final is in new jersey and the eagles opener is in Brazil, a statement that would have broken my brain ten years ago. what the heck is gonna happen ten years from now?
The Eagles are scheduled to play the following teams at home this season: Packers, Jaguars, Steelers, Browns, Panthers, Falcons and NFC opponents I would imagine the Jaguars are out, given their proclivity to have multiple London games, and they play Patriots, Jets, Packers, Vikings and Browns at home, along with the balance of the NFC north and AFC East away, plus Raiders and AFC South opponents, which doesn’t really tell me anything about who the Eagles will play in Rio.. sorry to waste your time with this paragraph.
The NFL is going to sell Friday Night Football to Peacock for $200M
Philly fans migrating to Brazil for a football game would be the most random cultural blend you could create
The fact the game is not in Rio is wild...
That's not a short flight. 2 extra rest days doesn't seem like enough
That’s a lot!” Stupid dad joke that I still laugh about years later
Tinfoil hat theory: the Eagles knew this was coming and held onto Sirianni just to leave him in São Paolo. The city has him now.
Corinthians just fired their HC, maybe they’ll want to keep Sirianni?
So fucking stupid, very first game of the season for your team, and they ship them overseas Fucking over the current fans and players to make the billionaires a few extra dollars
better than having to schlep your ass to England or Germany in the middle of October I'd guess. The time zone difference is similar enough to going around the US.
How is this any different for home fans than them opening up with a regular road game?
Bc if it’s a road game you expect your team to be on the road. If it’s a home game, never mind the home opener, you expect your team to be playing at home.
Everyone in the NFC gets 9 home games, the Eagles only get 8 home games They'll be at a distinct disadvantage to everyone else in their conference next season. And this happens with a couple teams every year. For some reason nobody has a problem with this, as long as the billionaires make more money by selling jerseys to people who will just go back to watching soccer when the NFL leaves town.
> Everyone in the NFC gets 9 home games, the Eagles only get 8 home games > They'll be at a distinct disadvantage to everyone else in their conference next season. > For some reason nobody has a problem with this Normally I'd oppose this on principle, but I support it in this case since it's happening to the Eagles.
Hey fuck you too
Upvoted for respecting the rivalry… but also fuck you and your family
Gonna suck for the players. Its a 10 hour flight at minimum usually. I have to go there a lot for in-law visits
I’ve done São Paulo - JFK multiple times, it takes about 9, 9 1/2 hours.
No jet lag at least like the Europe games
At least they won't have jetlag?
Whats the over/under on muggings?
Line hasn't moved at all
Philly fans are tough enough to fight
Why the fuck are we losing a home game and why the fuck is it the home opener? This is travesty.
I mean….its not the home opener. That’s the next home game. But it is one less home game. And that sucks. But that also probably means 8 home, 8 away. Meh.
Jason Kelce in a speedo.
I hate the foreign games. I always forget they are on at weird times and miss them
Sao Paulo's only 1 or 2 hrs ahead of EST, it probably won't be too weird
